How much do you need to shake contrast paint bottles? Because I feel like the last few bits of the paint pot must have had 20x the concentration of the top 90% of the pot. This shit was 50% paint thinner and even then a quick spray and I go to full on "Black" on the one terminator. Meanwhile the tacticals took 3/4 coatings just fine last time.
>>97391448Custodes are a very focused army. So in some senses? Yes. In others? No. Playing custodes probably wont teach you how to play marines or admech or SA, theres not a lot of overlap between them. Its going to teach you how to play custodes. And custodes - on their own - require some finangling to win with due to how scoring works currently. In a straight up "killing" game? Yea, theyre really easy to play. Youe entire army is melee elites that wipe the floor with basically anything they touch, and you just need to run at people. Basically: Custodes more or less ignore a lot of the game (super high mental stats, never run away, dont care about scoring much), have small and elite armies with clearly defined roles for units and are good for learning the basic rules of the game and how your army works. But they require very careful play to actually win because they dont interact well with some aspects of objective play (which in turn lets you focus more on learning basic rules if thats what youre worried about)
>>97391439proonts existed for some of those units
>>97391453dunno about contrast paints, but I got this vortex mixer from aliexpress for about 20 bucks a few years ago and it works like a charm. however if a paint wasn't used for months then a bit of hand shaking is necessary as in: few strong shakes (like a downward swing), 10 sec of vortex, repeat a few times.
>recent battleforce for admech was only $140 That seems petty cheap. I wonder why.

>>97390799This excuse is used for pcs in general; the time balance of the game is broken both IRL and in universe.
>>97390842This isn't inherently a problem. Well, Essence flattening the power curve is but that's solvable
>>97390485>>97390632>I was under the impression that anything from 7 to 9 is a success anyway, are lower rolls always better? On a normal roll, 7-9 is one success and 10 is two successes, which is to say that by default 10s are doubled. Having double 9s means that rolling a 9 or 10 counts as two successes, double 8s means that rolling 8s through to 10s counts as two successes, and double 7s means that rolling 7 through to 10 counts as two successes each.By default, if you roll ten dice and score one of each number 1-10, you score five successes (7 8 9 = 3, 10 = 5). If you have double 7s you would score eight successes. This is also about how the averages work, so if you're assigning difficulties to an action keep in mind that by default it takes someone with twice the number of dice as the Difficulty to succeed about 60% of the time. Six dice is likely to meet Difficulty 3, ten dice has about a 60% chance of meeting Difficulty 5, and so on. With double 7s those same six dice are likely to meet Difficulty 5, and ten dice are likely to beat Difficulty 7.

What is a good tabletop RPG that is easy to run and prep for someone who is a new gm but has experience playing in games before?
I think>Worlds Without Number (fantasy)>Stars Without Number (scifi)>Cities Without Number (cyberpunk)>Ashes Without Number (postapoc)are excellent systems which will instantly be navigable to anyone who has experience with mainline RPGs. The entirety of character creation is contained within the first short chapter of each book. And:>Mothershipgets special mention for being simple and awesome if you want to run space horror.
>>97390093No exp GM with Paranoia is... not gonna go well, anon.
>>97390861How would you know, anon? You didn't look at the rules, did you?
>>97391161How would you even know there are rules if you hadn't already looked at them yourself?
>>97390861Agreeing with this guy. The first thing that comes to my mind is that people with experience in other games can get precious about their characters and it takes a bit of experience as a GM to get past that hump, especially as clones might not even survive the mission briefing if everything goes as it should. The second thing is that Paranoia missions can go off the rails very fast, not in the "this module is a railroad" sense, in the unexpected and chaotic sense so you'd have to be comfortable with the rules and improvising.I did look at the rules. I'm allowed to.

Why is there so much whinging about 'No Games' on this board? I understand that those who come here solely with the intention of discussing tropes and the like can be frustrating to deal with, but there seem to be some folks here who make it their mission to drop bursts of negativity in threads they should've known would enrage them. And even in these threads that hold more general discussion, I don't see how nearly all of them are not at least tangentially related to traditional gaming.
>>97391485>at least tangentially related to traditional gaming.some people hate it unless you are directly discussing traditional games(and then some people will go ahead and ask "traditional games?" in threads about specific games anyway)
because its a small number, if not a single person, who makes thread after thread after thread after thread asking the most vague, hardly /tg/ relevant questions. Usually providing no further context or thoughts past a single sentence, if that, and often just repeated or rephrased from a thread already made. mods and janitors refuse to prune them, so the rest of the board have become irritated with them and the threads and no longer wish to even feign polite indifference.
>>97391485Why are you coming to a board that literally has games in its title if you don't want to talk about games?
>>97391485It's a more specific insult than "poser", since it directly implicates the poster as not just having a faulty surface level impression of the board subject but also as having no actual experience to speak of. Whether it's true or not is irrelevant, mind.

Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. But feel free to talk about any game you've had experience with.
>>97369009Being a good GM means being able to respond to unexpected player actions. Remember that the TTRPG hobby started out as expansion packs to wargames which were added to simulate fantasy adventures rather than battles with pre-determined starting conditions.

Fabius actively hates Chaos>Thousand Sons hate Tzeentch for fucking them and try to fuck him over when they can>Alpha Legion retconned to basically never having been religious at all >World Eaters are crazy and barely verbal anymore>Red Corsairs see relying on Dark Gods as weak and now have a whole cadre of troops that are "free" of Chaos influence>Only Word Bearers and Death Guard seem to actually venerate the Chaos GodsWhy are so few CSM actually religious anymore? >>97390169whoops wrong pic
>>97387179>Black Legion no longer hard into Chaos worship, Abaddon sees himself as not a slave and is disdainful of the religiousThat's how it originally was. The BL gave sacrifice and worship to the gods only because they were fucked otherwise, but personally hated the position they were in. They routinely crossed the god they were previously making offering go to be in better graces with the god they needed to get cozy next. They were also the only legion to figure out how to get out of possession, even if it left the body warped and mutated. Basically, they were the minmaxers of Chaos.
>>97387422Word Bearers don't worship Chaos gods, they worship the Warp itself.
>>97387179The point is, they're all wrong and deluded. The gods exist whether you believe them or not. All of the rest is cope. The real-life explanation is that actual religious fanatics would probably come off as really disturbing. Even the Word-Bearers are very transactional in their worship, they do it to get bennies. If they were like Muslims, that would probably be too far even by grim, dark standards.

>>97389120Most of the 2e community agree that the 2e Mythic system is very undertuned and underbaked, even for 2e standards. Though it wasn't about trying to nerf the "broken" parts of 1e so much as actually making it function as a system by not having it stuck in an AP subsystem. >>97388841I mostly agree with this, but I do want to acknowledge the powercurve of 2e in general. Low-level feats are just that, low-level. They are meant to be more practical or lowkey then character defining. And this applies to the Mythic system as well, you aren't going to expect a power to scale like Aerial Assault if its not a distinct spell or class power.2e can be pretty No Fun Allowed but I think there has to be more a middleground between "oi you god a loicense to be cool tuday!?" and "free 10d6 goomba stomp every round".
>>97389408Ignoring the mythic system is still incredible feat/magic item/level intensive in 2e to come close to what you could easily do athletically/acrobatically in 1e
>>97389434That's just a true statement, I am very certain a point was to make sure you can't. By default, a "full-round action" to move in 2e is far more freeing, if less multiplicative than a full Run/Charge in 1e. But I also think neither game was ever trying to be Exalted, there are diminishing returns to high degrees of athleticism on both player and GM. You can only make a mountain so high, especially for the one person that builds for it in your campaign. And unless you houserule how move actions work to work like they do in D&D5e, you not only waste all your additional movement as you can't skirmish, you lose out on other full-round actions.Nothing in 2e is supposed to be as easy to accomplish in 1e. Either it is meant to be more an investment to compensate for the streamlining of core systems, or not applicable at all because they are two different games and have two different balancing points.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started.
