Thread #02 Lean Winter on the Tundra
Previous Thread: >>97090196

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

True enough, I suppose we can only hope there is something else benign listening in beyond his awareness. If only to still have some hope. I would love the wildfire culprits to be anything else and I'm still not sure but the only consistent thing that surfaced were accounts of wings and the timeliness of it all. Perhaps it could've been the fairer folk but that feels...off. I'm not sure why.

Moloch's Fun Park Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

given that the game encouraged kitbashing your own guys to be a distinct little warband in whatever faction you're a part of, making custom rules is a much smaller step culturally.
>>
>>97238338
>I mean, if you are pulling some herp durp nazis with the swastika filed off and replaced with an 'X', you are likely to get shat on for a very solid reason.
This is 4chan, I wouldn't be shocked if there's someone behind the screen right now jacking off to their army of being nazis.

I just perhaps need to look into more factions for what I want to do. Since their mechanics differ, but I really do like the New Antoich for models!
>>97238427
>The problem as always is that custom warbands are always massively OP.
I'd like to have the threads help then for me to make something not utterly awful. The theme is rather simple, being based around the Archangel Saint Michael.

I have colors picked out and ideas furthering that.

I live in a shit third world country with fucked up inflation and can't afford the STLs for a full warband. Any link to a trove would be great.

Thankfully I've managed to acquire almost all of the TROs in print over the years; the only ones I'm missing are 3145 and 3150. I really wish CGL would do another print run of those two (or set them up for Print-on-Demand from DTRPG); I would really like to have them without having to pay an arm and a dick.
Truthfully, TRO:3025 is probably still my favorite; the CE is great simply to have a copy of it that doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart. Having used 3039/3050U/PP as my main source of info for a long time, though, I forgot just how much info wwas added to the 'Mech entries over the years compared to the original 3025/3050.
>>

>>
>>97241003
I got into Battletech in 2011 and I never needed TROs to construct my own record sheets or the like, so for me they were mostly just something to read while bored. I'll probably keep the 3025 one in the bathroom.

It's a collectabble. In a world where ao much is digital, it feels good to have something physical to interact with.
And once in a blue moon it does come in handy.
Somehow I'm faster at picking up the rules compendium and navigating the index than I am at finding shit in a PDF that takes a moment to load the page chunks.

There's a Monk ACF that gets Sneak Attack. I wouldn't play Monk if I wanted to use daggers though, too much hoop jumping that involves Channel Energy to be able to flurry with them, and if you're not flurrying or abusing MoMS Monk is pretty useless. Deer horn knife is the closest thing to a dagger that they're proficient in by default, if you're using Unchained Monk as the base, and it's probably not what you're looking for.

Vista edition

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

Did you mean to quote my post here >>97237098 ?
If so, then the reason why is obvious: to make the 3x skill worth the investment.
A lucky crit on Persuasion could convince an NPC to help YOUR suicidal charge by f.e. leaving a door open or doing something distracting and safe elsewhere, but it took Charismstic Impact for the NPC to join or sacrifice themselves.
I know one can argue about it, but fortunately nobody in the playgroup questioned that ruling because it's just an obvious conclusion.

Another thing CI did that Persuasion couldn't was to use "small group" DVs to "presummon" NPCs on the location before the action started.
>>
>>97238680
Okay, but it's not just that it's a 3x skill, it's a 3x skill that has to be raised to atleast 6-7 to start being useful. Why can't Rockerboys have another ability to fill the void before they hit that cap?

I don't think having any of the Roles having a singular ability is good design. There's alot of disparity between Roles in general. I think having Multiple abilities adds alot of utility and there's clear developer favoritism towards the Tech in particular.
>>
>>97238800
Well, that's how our Ref solved the problem of making CI distinct from the social skills.
I agree on the main point, I don't think Roles should be balanced power-wise, but they should receive roughly equal attention from the devs and it's obvious they hadn't.
Media's Credibility has miserably low numbers at first, but at least you can always use a high skill to gather actively Rumours.
>>97234206
Remember that you can use LUCK for the CI roll. This doesn't increase the scope of favours, but helps a low rank Rockerboy to ensure they get them.

A starting level character having a 1 in 3 chance to get a major favor from an NPC seems like pretty good odds to me, dude, and as >>97239432 said, you can use luck to make it a sure thing.

Okay, yes, Those look absolutely fucking awful to use for several reasons.

However, the spirit of gift-giving is in what the gift shows about the giver. She understands your interests enough to make you a dice set, she has enough of a sense of humor to give them over-the-top labels, and she cared enough to sink a decent amount of time into making this for you by hand. And she's doing this for you even though you're a lardass.

Not everything needs to be wholly practical. You presumably already have the dice you need for your games. So think of these more as decorative. Like the silver Tengwar d20s that I gave out to the groomsmen at my wedding.

>just win themselves against new players
It's not, it's just an inability to explain the over all concept and back into the mechanics. Like when I teach agricola I start with "you're gonna starve, to not stave you need pigs. Two pigs breed but you need a fence. Another way to get food is veg..." whereas I got taught "put your workers down and get something or build a fence" like it's a typical two game and then I wonder why my instructor is working so hard on pigs and a garden.

People are weird and stupid, I don't know why I miss board game group. There was another guy who would always use the "just start playing method" but sometimes later said that was just practice and reset but other times was like let's just keep going. After GWT i suspected, after CE I knew: he pulled the reset whenever his first round didn't go well and insisted on playing through when it did. I don't think he even knew he was doing it but he was really flustered when the next time he laid out a game I made him state if it was a practice or we were playing through before he started.

This is over dozens of games but I specifically remember him having the perfect herd drawn when we continued gwt and threw away and redrew a bad hand in ce (whereas I had a god hand and got fucking crippled dick on the reset- one reason ce is terrible) when I confronted him and I explained it other regulars backed me up too but it was so ingrained here really struggled with just saying one or the other without seeing his lot.

Aight, disco fits the 'alone during holidays' feeling anyways. But I did play so much Vidya in my life that solo board games give some novelty. Hard to explain but after some point you just see through the Vidya as another form of boardgames. Excluding Fortnite faggotry.
>>
>>97240459
it's elegant because it's small and simple, really it's harder to make an inelegant game with so few moving parts
>>
>>97240459
Yes, perfect information, watching your opponents struggle to make you finally buy, getting an engine where you're shitting out spice, even just buying market cards for the spice Ann's then having them be clutch many trades later.

I can't wait to hear what you think of eastern wonders and new world.
>>
Disco elysium goes to shit about 2 hours in once you start to see the engine running under the hood of your actions and it loses the appeal and mystique and just becomes doing what the system wants you to do. It reminds me of that shit smegmeier new game where it might be fun and novel but paying money to add it to a collection is frankly dumb.

>>97240568
Yeah that is odd. I know for me I've had strange stuff where it's often the first time I play someone and they refuse to engage with small talk while running demos for me and are in tryhard mode. And it's like dude, I don't know you at all to give you any grace, if you're being weird during our first game there won't be a second.
I've just straight up stopped going to a shop I was super active at and running games for a solid group of retirees who needed me because this one weird battletech dude kept hanging around trying to find a game and then after weeks I gave him one and he was being weird as fuck while i taught him stuff and refused to like actually learn and was just angleshooting, so goodbye shop at that point. It was already exhausting being the teach old men over and over because of their memory person

Guys, I want to talk about HELLPIERCERS. I bought this game a bit ago because I thought it looked cool, and I've read it, and I don't know enough people weird enough to play it with me, and I can't stop thinking about it, and I just have to talk about it with someone.

>First up: what the fuck is Hellpiercers? And why do you spell it in all-caps? Do you have autism?
HELLPIERCERS is a tactical tabletop RPG developed by SandyPug Games alongside a few people who did some dev work on some of the Lancer supplements. It casts the PCs as gnostic demigod heroes and veterans of the War in Heaven, who aided the forces of humanity in regaining their stolen gnosis and slaying the Demiurge, his Archons, and angelic generals. Having conquered Heaven and liberated the mortal plane from the tyranny of false divinity, they now cast their eyes downward, into Hell, where countless human souls remain enslaved by the demon lords below. Hellpiercers, armed with their god-slaying weapons, clad in armor forged from the corpses of angels, lead a war of liberation against the forces of Hell, to free the enslaved souls of every human who has ever lived.

I spell it in all-caps because it's title is rendered in all-caps. I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic, but I've never been tested, so who even fucking knows?

There was a sharethread earlier this month with exactly that in it.

Less than two minutes checking the archive is how much work you didn't do. Link might've expired.

Mostly just using it to learn the rules of the game.

WoW, Netrunner and Ashes reborn receive lots of praise. People have had fun with games that have been bad mouthed on here so your milage may vary.

Financially it exists because TT wants to put as much attention on the series as they can, but gameplay wise now that I've looked into it Wixoss's level system actually fits a magical girl anime pretty damn well.

I mean, we could argue about definitions but I consider Wixoss to be part of the dark-magical-girl fad of the 2010s. It's not an accident the system is what it is.
Yuzuki best girl by the way.

I don't think there was ever a dark magical girl fad. I think PreCure has such a chokehold on the market and is so annoyingly sanitized it has made people memoryhole the amount of bite the genre used to have.

That's fair, and to be fair I'm operating on vibes over facts. I remember watching a bunch of deliberately edgy slop around that time, mostly in the wake of Madoka, but I couldn't name any of them at this point.
