>>97393261>the game was agonizingly slow and exhaustingthis keeps me from playing heavier games, AP + player count starts multiplying downtime like crazy
>>97391584>TQ:>What game did you expect to hate, but ended up really liking it?TfM - played it late, thought it would be like Ark nova. The map part is pretty boring but I love the massive amount of cards and just building the engine up. It's sort of a calming game for me, where I just build my engine in peaceFor sale - old, boring filler game. Besides it's betting which I'm not a fan of. Turns out it's great, all time goat. Love it.Dominant species - people said it's long and mean. Hard to get things done and others ruin your plans etc.. One of my favorites. It's not that mean imo, st least it doesn't feel that way to me, maybe because of the theme. The domination calculation is simple math, no problems. It's longer since it's also best with more players but it doesn't feel long.>What game did you expect to love, but endet up hating it?Ark nova - animals, lot's of cards, heavy, everyone in the group loved it. It's not that interesting, slow cycling through the cards. Even more solo than TfM but with no engine building fun. Spirit island - everyone loved it, heavy coop with asymetry. Maybe because it's coop but it's very boring. Like pandemic, enemy spreads and you play a couple of cards to contain them. The cards are also not that exciting.
>>97391673I don't see how anyone can say this game looks good yet it gets praised for it.
>>97393711The average brain is so fried they need extreme stimulation to register anything. Shit, we were talking about radlands still yesterday.
>>97393261>>97393597I don't mind it all that much, but it depends on what kind of downtime. This all opens a very interesting topic relevant to disagreements in game evaluation, "How do you approach [game]?". Like in the example, if you play Agricola Gaia Project just from your gut, you'll have a bad time. Similarly, if you overanalyze and try to strategize Diamant or Resistance, you'll have a tedious and frustrating game. That is not exclusive to weight, I'd argue Ra gets worse when you math out probabilities and Chinatown sucks if you go deeper than only roughly crunching the numbers before taking a deal. And it's hard to approach a game you've tried and found shit once again from a different angle. Time is too precious for most of us.Very interesting topic
What does your character do during adventure downtime? Do they have a side job or something?
>>97375833This guy looks extremely charming
>>97375833Depends on the game>Perfect DrawEither gets his father's "might makes right" worldview drilled into him so he can take over his father's business someday, or visits his sickly younger sister in the hospital.>Digimon Digital Adventures 1.4, game aWe haven't had any real downtime, but if we did the human would spend his time playing MMOs and the digimon would spend her time practicing how to stab people better.>Digimon Digital Adventures 2eAgain, no real downtime in this game cause of the setup, but the human plays basketball (he's 6 feet tall in japan since he's a half-breed) and the digimon would probably get bored and start eating anything that resembled food.>Digimon Digital Adventures 1.4, game bAgain, no real downtime, but the human would probably watch whatever your average 15 year old girl in 1999 was watching and the digimon would probably try to keep the more rambunctious members of the party out of trouble.Comment too long. Is there a reason we have so few games with a Gothic or Victorian inspired setting but a trillion rehashes of medieval fantasy, science-fiction or some eastern setting with katanas?
I personally find that Victorian aesthetics, and even 19th-century firearms, tend to get absorbed into the "generic high fantasy" banner.Whether it is D&D 5e, Pathfinder 2e, Draw Steel, or Daggerheart, it does not seem to be particularly uncommon for one character to be a knight in full plate while another character is a 19th-century-esque gunslinger or pseudo-steampunk gadgeteer (or both).I should know, because I have GMed for and played in parties exactly like this in all of the aforementioned systems.Another oddly specific point where this rings true is that if someone is asked to envision a generic "noblewoman," it is a 50/50 shot on whether they picture something medieval/Renaissance-ish or something more Victorian.Victorian and other 19th-century aesthetics got gobbled up by the "generic high fantasy" genre.
>>97388146>Victorian inspired settingIsn’t that pretty much all of Steampunk ever?

>>97392501Kinda, the game has been translated to spanish, italian, german, japanese and iirc french and portuguese, however most people DO treat the english translation as the default due to shitty localizations and/or rulings not being specific in other languages (if vs when, send vs destroy, affect the cards vs affect the player, etc), so you can get away with playing in say, german, but you also need to know english to avoid getting "sharked" in locals, never mind YCS tournaments where the judges are mostly american.

>>97393590Heard skavenslayer is a collection of short stories that were merged into a novel so although thebook was published in 1999 the first stories could have been written before that. That being said the first thanquol miniature is from early 1994 so in all likelihood the character predates the story.
>>97393590Gotrek and Felix existed before the novels as well so it's not that weird, probably tjust a case of taking some old lore in making the new book.
I was diving in the archives and discovered this thing that /tg/ made a long time ago. Catgirls + an underwater world. It looks like the project withered away and everyone involved left this board ten or so years ago. So, how was it? Did it ever get off the ground?

>>97386311>>97387756never really learned how to draftis everyone just playing limited and commander at lgs's? is there any standard/modern scene at your typical shop? are standard players all just playing on arena now?
>>97393699You the anon from the other thread? If so I answered most of that. But limited has a decent scene yes. A draft is like 10 bucks. The prerelease's are always packed, one I won those from had 70 entrants. Yours might have one today if so I HIGHLY reccomend you go. Its very fun, like 35 bucks and is kinda the lowest barrier to entry for any player.
>>97393721lol yeah, I am, thanksI might go check it out, but I'm still not really sure if I even want to bother with paper at all
>>97393741Prerelease is probably your best test then. Its very low skill and fun. Other main idea is to simply play with a friend. Theres a few 60 card premade boxes on store shelves that are cheap. The FF one was like 20 bucks. Grab it with a friend and play. The main thing you get from paper is talking to and interacting with other humans. Either as friends and just chatting, but also talking about WHAT you want to play. You dont always have to be armed to the teeth for the standard meta with some hyper efficent deck. You can agree on things.

It's pic related. Peter Jackson tried to copy Blix's swag for a good reason
>>97389217Amy Winehouse?
>>97391917This is the original
>>97290361Love Peter Jackson portrayal, although I think he goes a little to heavy on the armor at times. Dragon's Dogma had a nice interpretation of them, clearly visually inspired by LotR films.>>97328676>>97372937WoD's portrayal of the old Orcs was fun, but also demonstrates one of the problems with changing Orcs from a classic monster race to one that's capable of making moral choices. Cause if you do that an then try to keep all the fun barbarian raider orc tropes, you end up with something far far more problematic than just sticking to the classic always evil monsters. So yeah, kind of fun, but Orcs have been a mess since, I dunno, TBC.

What age is it appropriate to let children open booster packs? In America, gambling is restricted to people 21 and over. Buying booster packs of Pokemon, Yugioh, etc however, all unrestricted.
>>97392220Lol. You're such a faggot. You play what, blue and black in mtg?
>>97392244Imagine on Anon.
>>97381005Ink+paper+packaging+shipping does add up to 3~5 cents per card, goes up to 10~15c for standard foils and maybe, in the worst upper estimate, $0.25 for the fancy foils if you mass produce them. Paying double digit dollarydoos or more PER CARD is the swcond stupidest thing, right behind the car-centric zoning laws.>>97387686People with "let's not have gambling in our games" mindset are the opposite of "investors" though. god I miss FFGs Netrunner, LCGs are the only viable solution to card games.
>>97380251Booster packs is gambling, and should follow the same laws.
>>97383324>least financialy literate board member>many such casesYou have never heard of how irresponsible discretionary spending is a big part of why consumer debt load is at such a record high that world govs are being held by the balls with policy? You will never be independent or a woman"
When did Magic players get so delusional? The performative outrage about UB has got to be some of the most faggy outrage ive seen in this game. If you bought/played with any secret lair cards or LotR cards then you have no room to complain about the current trajectory, this is your fault. If you are anti UB because they dont "fit" Mtgs setting, but purchased/played Neon Dynasty, Thunder Junction, Duskmourn, Aetherdrift, or Edge then you have no media literacy because they are all basicly UB sets without an IP attached. Stop posting like UB is the death of magic, I remember when we thought Mythic rarity was going to be the end and now look at this bullshit. Its going to keep going on until people are done playing the game and move to something else, and theres not a single TCG right now that could take its place. >inbf I proxy so I winYou are a faggot in denial, if you play the game in anyway, you are coupable in this. >I brought up Epicureanism before because I think its key concepts are strangely poignant in today's society where life is really a stress test of everything and people basically live life on high anxiety. Lucretius' On the Nature of Things and the Epicurus compilation called the Art of Happiness are typical starting points.Epicureanism is FLAWED because it promotes STAGNATION. What if I find peace THROUGH pain and fear? What if I CONSTRUE moderation and tranquility as FAILURES of self-EXPRESSION? Because it sure FUCKING seems to be that EPICUREANISM sounds a whole LOT like it's a PRO-GOHAN stance.
