it works fine but it needs an internal logic rather than the reactionary displaced rules it has ended up with, it doesn't need much more than a rewrite. The problem is that HH2.0 was in the exact same state, they made a nostalgiabait edition enshrining beloved rules, made new additions, had to course correct their new additions after leaving the rules on life support for ages, then proceeded to dump everything with a ground up rework changing fundamentals of the game and t no ones surprise cocking it up instantly. All they had to do was rewrit the edition as it stood at the end, but no that isn't marketable or exciting enough and doesn't give them the excuse to cut options.

Wasn't planning on using it with Fallout 4 stuff if I did run with it. Was thinking more classic designs for just about everything. If anything, would be more like the Enclave from OWB mod, but start out with the players unaware of who their employers/benefactors truly are until they've earned trust, probably have some intrigue that decides if they helped the Reformists win and the campaign would involve reuniting the Wasteland and having a solid reason to be traveling all over it.

You need to fundamentally change how successes work. Having "nothing" happens as a result is undesirable, having it be the most common result is painful. At the very least if you don't want to change things up too much set a minimum damage threshold. Something like
>If you roll at least 1 success you always deal at least 1 point of damage, regardless of how well the opposing side rolls
But really you don't want to keep making each side roll roughly equivalent pools with a high success threshold, I don't think there's a way to have that which doesn't involve constant ties

I have only been sharked once. My opponent goes full combo, i raigeki the dude on my turn, he chains his negate, i send raigeki and 2 monsters with droplet to disable it and his other negates. He calls the judge and tells him that i'm cheating because i wasn't allowing him to respond to any of it. The judge tells him that he can't respond with monsters nor spells, and he throws a fucking tantrum, saying that he CAN respond to droplet IF you chain to it, huffing every time the judge tells him to please read the card. He refuses and just gives me the match, because he "can't stand cheaters nor morons". He gets DQ'd for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Dude was sweating bullets, smelled like onions, was wearing a stained anime shirt and cargo pants, was a balding obese pube beard, the whole thing, he was a walking stereotype. This was back in iirc 2023? When dinosaur scrap had borreload savage and apollousa legal. I wasn't even playing meta lmao, literally 3 traptrix structures and 3 mismatched droplets i had just pulled from a rarity box.

The prerelease's are always packed, one I won those from had 70 entrants. Yours might have one today if so I HIGHLY reccomend you go. Its very fun, like 35 bucks and is kinda the lowest barrier to entry for any player.

Prerelease is probably your best test then. Its very low skill and fun. Other main idea is to simply play with a friend. Theres a few 60 card premade boxes on store shelves that are cheap. The FF one was like 20 bucks. Grab it with a friend and play. The main thing you get from paper is talking to and interacting with other humans. Either as friends and just chatting, but also talking about WHAT you want to play. You dont always have to be armed to the teeth for the standard meta with some hyper efficent deck. You can agree on things.

He made the Tomb of Horrors just to fuck them over, specifically players who think they have enough power to just faceroll everything. It kills you by getting past your HP, features. If you get 8d6 damage by a boulder you can live if you have tons of HP. But if you get teleported into the sun, it's over. You need to start using your brain again.

AFTER THAT, they started using it as a tournament module to see if other players could be just as smart.

Is there any specific lore behind FFG's OC chapter getting 3 levels of fucking gambling of all things as one of their signature chapter skills? Or was this just the case of the devs wanting to give that skill to at least someone and SW ended up getting it due to not having any preexisting flavour?

Either way I find the idea that those very mysterious, reclusive, honour-obsessed Astartes based on Scottish and Welsh warrior clans also apparently throw wild fucking poker nights at their chapter monasteries and are super into it absolutely hilarious and I'm making it my headcanon from now on

I think the biggest thing to worry about with them is that while the core mechanic is simple, the numbers get complex FAST. I've had plenty of new GMs struggle with what happens when someone is dropped to zero Wounds on turn one of combat and then they have to read how Critical Damage works and so on and so forth. It's probably better to not discourage them early without also poisoning the well with a rules light system.

TfM - played it late, thought it would be like Ark nova. The map part is pretty boring but I love the massive amount of cards and just building the engine up. It's sort of a calming game for me, where I just build my engine in peace
For sale - old, boring filler game. Besides it's betting which I'm not a fan of. Turns out it's great, all time goat. Love it.
Dominant species - people said it's long and mean. Hard to get things done and others ruin your plans etc.. One of my favorites. It's not that mean imo, st least it doesn't feel that way to me, maybe because of the theme. The domination calculation is simple math, no problems. It's longer since it's also best with more players but it doesn't feel long.

Ark nova - animals, lot's of cards, heavy, everyone in the group loved it. It's not that interesting, slow cycling through the cards. Even more solo than TfM but with no engine building fun.
Spirit island - everyone loved it, heavy coop with asymetry. Maybe because it's coop but it's very boring. Like pandemic, enemy spreads and you play a couple of cards to contain them. The cards are also not that exciting.

I don't mind it all that much, but it depends on what kind of downtime.
This all opens a very interesting topic relevant to disagreements in game evaluation, "How do you approach [game]?". Like in the example, if you play Agricola Gaia Project just from your gut, you'll have a bad time. Similarly, if you overanalyze and try to strategize Diamant or Resistance, you'll have a tedious and frustrating game. That is not exclusive to weight, I'd argue Ra gets worse when you math out probabilities and Chinatown sucks if you go deeper than only roughly crunching the numbers before taking a deal.
And it's hard to approach a game you've tried and found shit once again from a different angle. Time is too precious for most of us.

So my DND group was kind of disolving, 2 out of the 4 players left because of life issues (one got a job abroad and the other one is dealing with life), to keep playing we incorporated 2 new players with not so much experience but avid watchers of Critical Role.

One of these player conditions was that we incorporate x cards to the game, she says that it makes it much more comfortable for her to know she can avoid unpleasant story elements having this tool.

I started to read a bit about it online and is this something you guys have used? In my 20 years playing I've never used this.
