What are your thoughts on this?I have never been a die hard fan of greek mythology but I do not dislike itMy group wants to run a long campaign with this starting january
>>97275440Seems about what I heard. Just points you to existing races and statblocks like how Planeshift books often did.Certainly annoying for them to mentioned things like characters changing between Lorwyn or Shadowmoor, or those regions of petrifying mist, but not actually put any mechanics on what it means. Also unsurprising is the locations. The kithkin are in small hamlets. The boggarts are in a warren. The elves are in their palace. Very little actual mention of the elf culture and laws though, which is extremely important to a Lorwyn campaign. Basically on par with not mentioning the Sorcerer-Kings from Dark Sun own slaves. Bestiary is similarly unsurprising. Half-dozen entries, nothing particularly special. The suggestion to use the core Scarecrow statblock for Shadowmoor scarecrows is a little insulting though. Shadowmoor scarecrows are usually way weirder. Telling people to just use any Construct statblock would have been more accurate. What stands out the most is the premade adventures though. They seriously made a single map for a kithkin community center, and then just put both modules in it. I'd be at least mildly more impressed if they'd bothered to make a Lorwyn and Shadowmoor version of the same building, but no. It's just two Lorwyn adventures in a book all about duality. The adventures themselves aren't anything special. First is sabotage at a contest, except there's no mystery to who's behind it, just beating up constructs until the culprit reveals themselves.Second is bodyguarding during a banquet. Pretty sure this one is nigh impossible if you run it straight, because the 11 HP target the players are guarding gets 'accosted' by a CR 6 Invisible Stalker. That is for the best, because it spares everyone the retardation of the final encounter.Overall I'd put it behind Theros, but still ahead of Strixhaven. There's much less here, but it doesn't entirely neglect the plane's history and bothered to include some notes on locations.
What is this a Greek expansion for D&D?
>>97272541You're going to read all Theros content from MtG that you can get your hands on and it probably still won't be enough, the setting book in question is very light on details it should've included. Having some knowledge on ancient Greece so that you can fill in these gaps with historically relevant information wouldn't be a bad idea.
>>97272541>Greekkek what a deracinated and judeo-negrified goy you are
Why not play in actual Greece if you like Greek stuff?

>>97283594>TQThis guy's pretty big.>>97283601>So, why doesn't Lorwyn get a spoiler season? They keep saying "People NEVER give a shit whenever we post spoilers during the holiday season, and yet we wanted the set to come out right at the start of January, so we're just gonna throw everything out there the first full week of January," which I find hard to believe, but they seem to stand by it.>Do they want to trick Lorwyn fans inot buying a Strixhaven set?I'm convinced they don't give a shit at all about SoS. The way they're ignoring it at every possible opportunity suggests they either wanna keep it really secret for some reason or they just don't think anyone will care about it, regardless of how much effort they put into marketing it, and the latter seems more believable to me.
>>97283634>I'm convinced they don't give a shit at allThis was really all you had to say. They released a Harry Potter set like 10 years after the last movie came out that was missing all the shit grown-up shit Harry Potter fans would have wanted and was just stupid shitty Harry Potter plane. And now it's like 5 years later and it's another Harry Potter set except the entire fucking Internet condemns it and there is nobody under the age of 20 playing this game. I bet there's fucking vehicles in the set. Mario Kart Harry Potter - how could we go wrong?
>>97283664I want to add that Wizards has clearly always been fucking lying about sets having 2-3 years lead time. Whatever is the actual lead time JK Rowling has been a shitter for the better part of like 5 years and the morons in Wizards still decided to push forward with going back to Strixhaven and not just that but pollute Lorwyn with their stupid field trip nonsense. The way they wrote Dina and voiced her in Lorwyn made me want to fucking die.
>>97283634>they either wanna keep it really secret for some reasonIt's going to contain external franchise characters appearing in Lorwyn; Universes Beyond in a normal, lore friendly set.

>>97283789>The symbolic DICHOTOMYTurns out it wasn't symbolic according to the setting's writters.
>>97283789RETARD ALERT!This dichotomy didn't exists because they were made for different purposes, custards were Emps bodyguards, while SoS were his anti-psyker hunters. They didn't interact much untill the very very recent fluff.

Because of course you're not just a hypocritical Luddite arbitrarily drawing a line where on one side what matters is whether the product of the technique matches the ethos and so is good and permitted while on the other you decree the products are poisoned by the means used to produce them despite the same logic applying in bother cases, right?

>>97281269It's a thread about ALL OSR games, hence the name "OSR General". The fact that you're bitter that your fave isn't old-school doesn't change that in any way.
>>97280846No young fren, I was there when osr was nascent. I had no real need for it. I had my old rule books so didn't need the reprints. Only reluctantly played 3e, even then our DMing and playing was old style in tone even with all those silly feats. Not sure why my friends adopted 3e rules, maybe cult of the new.I was here when people made the first osr generals. Outside of some trollish 4channers, and apparently outside of your blogger's head as he's wrongly conflating things, osr still means what it meant.Your opinionated little blogger hero doesn't get to redefine "osr" to suit his means. He's engaging in revisionism and I reject his attempt. Even if 2e was not, as in his opinion it isn't, "old school" it was and is part of osr and has been for 21 years or more. While it's nice to read him admit Cook wrote frames for modules, though unfortunately mistakenly trying to equate this with railroading, and that>such a thing isn't really different from several treasured modules released earlierhe has the rather poor and wrong opinion that>module tells you to place an encounter at a certain point in timeis bad. There's no real difference between a dm deciding to reschedule, omit or add an encounter all on his own, whether for a module or own adventure, and a dm deciding to do that based on advice from a module. It's called being clever, wise, adaptable. In a footnote he adds>I'm not arguing that the old-school method is the one true way to play D&D, though it's the one I prefer.but the trouble is he's talking about "the old school" when there wasn't a universal and monolithic "the old school" and old school isn't synonymous with old school renaissance.>>97281268Mine wasn't the first reply so you're being a bit choosy.Comment too long. It's all unplaytested splatbooks which are literal shit and setting books written for nogame morons to read rather than play. It's unusable for OSR play because it breaks too many of the core OSR mechanics. It's usable for storyfagging in principle, but you have no reasons to choose it over editions that are much better designed for that style, like 3e and 5e.If you think that pile of absolute garbage qualifies as OSR, it says everything about (You) and nothing about the OSR.
