On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.
>>97265078You should see Farscape
>>97265308yeah, that's about the goldilocks zone of alien-ness i'm more inclined towards. though in all RPGs I run I prefer a human or human-like majority party which leaves room for one oddball that pushes it
>>97264811Should have made them with two pairs of tits (the long torso could clearly accomodate that) ... would have been waaay cooler.
In my book, any kind of alien can work, so long as their tech level is believable. While the Birrin feel like they've been designed with features that only exist for weirdness' sake, it's the natural way their biological quirkiness is presented in mundane scenarios that make them work. It's when an extremely animalistic-looking species has quirks that feel wholly unsuited for using the technology they have that starts to feel weird. Either the tech needs to feel ergonomic for them, or they need to show visible difficulty using it. Despite all this, it's pretty easy to handwave how an alien can use what it's got if it has tentacles. The game Endless Space 2 has a lot of atypical aliens, like cephalopods forced onto land (Niris), sentient Amoeba gestalt consciousnesses and tardigrade meteorologists (Kalmat), not even mentioning the ones from other dimensions, though many are the result of meddling from another advanced civilization in their development. They might have a single text box worth of exploration into their culture for you to read as the start of a quest, and a civic project you can enact relating to integrating them into your culture. I think the biggest issue I have is the annoying number of the races (especially the major ones) with very cybernetic looking "default" features, and it makes it feel way too on the nose that they were messed with by the titular Endless. Still, I really hope we get something like Star Control for the franchise at some point to more closely explore all the novel ideas the game presents on the macro level. Been thinking to maybe add some elements from the games to a Stars Without Number campaign.

What is the best TTRPG for a Kenshi Campaign?
>>97258327>>97261064The point very much includes the matter of options NOT to use, thus Basic covering an enormous amount of ground is part of the problem. Because the POINT of GURPS is that it's not specific to any particular subset of TTRPG design space, and thus to support a specific theme the end user has to undertake no small amount of design work pruning what doesn't fit.All the discussion has been what enormous mounds of content apply, none of the detail of what to remove that's needed to actually assure the campaign fits Kenshi in particular.

>In the dungeon's mossy depths, the orc's breath misted in the damp chill. She knelt beside the drow warrior, watching silver light from a distant crack trace the contours of obsidian skin. A trickle of violet-black blood wound its way from the corner of the drow's mouth. The orc leaned closer, inhaling. Her pulse quickened; her fingers curled into fists, then slowly unclenched. She moved forward on calloused palms and bent knees, the rough leather of her armor creaking with each shift of weight. The unconscious drow's lips parted slightly as the orc's shadow fell across her face. The orc hesitated, then pressed her mouth against the drow's, tasting copper and salt. The kiss was raw and possessive, her sharp teeth grazing the drow's lower lip as she growled deep in her throat; a sound that declared ownership. Her victory, her prize, her conquest to devour. Her rough hands found the curve of hip, the hollow of collarbone. Outside, water dripped steadily from stone to stone, marking seconds that stretched into minutes as the space between their bodies disappeared.

Sort of like how the UK has the Crown Estate which technically belongs to the King but he by custom and tradition and convention hands over to the government to manage.Jedi also don't draw any salaries. Any government on Earth would salivate at the notion of getting peak educated space wizard monks to do all their diplomacy for them FOR FREE. Pay for a building base (that the Jedi owned outright for 25k years anyway, they're signing over premium Coruscant real estate TO YOU), for travel budget (which all government diplomats would get anyway, and Jedi are much better at the job), and you don't even need to pay them wages? How good is that? Just declare a couple planets like Ilum nature reserves for the Jedi and you're off to the races.

There is only like 3 underperforming units (Wookies, Rebels commandos and Inquisitors) but they are still very usable.>Do scenarios affect gameplay a lot, or do you just basically want to wipe the enemy?A lot imo. You still want to be killing stuff but it may sometimes be more beneficial long-term to capture a point or grab the secret intel dropped by an enemy.>Also wot are the factions likeEach has a niche but can do most things.Rebels have fragile but very mobile and lethal units. Their heroes and elite units typically fight at closer range with melee weapons and pistols. Their vehicles are very different from other factions' since they don't really have any big tank, just speeders and an APC.The Empire has tankier units that don't shoot as well. Their heroes are mostly officers that help their troops, bounty hunters focused on killing other heroes or Vader/Inquisitors who fight in melee. Most of their generic units are focused on shooting at medium to long range. They can make lists focusing on armors with 3 AT-STs or armies that spam stormtroopers. The Republic is the elite faction. Their clones are tanky, shoot well and are good in melee, but you'll usually have fewer soldiers and their vehicles are better but cost more points. Their heroes are mostly Jedi who fight in melee or support their clones. They also have some clone heroes more focused on support.Separatists get a bit of everything. Cheap but fragile units like B1s, Geonosians or STAPs but also tanky elite units like the AAT, B2s or Magnaguards but droids rely more on their commander to give orders. Their heroes are also very varied with a lot of lightsabers-users, bounty hunters and tactical droids that still fight well.
>>97267760>Do scenarios affect gameplay a lot, or do you just basically want to wipe the enemy? As of now, the game has 7 primary and 7 secondary missions. They are fairly diverse, and you gain most points through your primary mission. However, there are a couple of primaries that are very prone to draws (eg. Recover the research), in which case you usually win on secondaries. There are only 2/7 secondaries that award points for killing. >Also wot are the factions like, do they have their niches, or can anyone be good at anything basically. As mentioned before, each faction CAN play in multiple ways, but they do have a core identity.>EmpireThe "vanilla" faction. They have the fewest tricks and mostly rely on raw statlines. Besides their heroes, they are definitely a shootling army first and foremost.>RebelsThe tricksy glass cannon faction. They have by far the most ways of messing with the enemy through command cards. They hit hard, with lots of pierce, but most of their units fold like wet paper under sustained fire.>CISThe endurance/synergy faction. Lots of bodies, lots of armor, tons of multi health units, many support abilities to keep your dudes alive just enough to score. As a CIS player, you also have by far the best order control, being able to plan out which units go when due to units like b1s having coordinate.>GARThe elite/synergy faction. Your units are generally expensive, but every clone trooper can generate tokens to share with other clones. Your objective as a clone commander is to make a list where every unit compliments each others' abilities.

Why are wolves so common in TTRPGs as enemies?
>>97269790https://desuarchive.org/tg/thread/96357946/You've already made this thread. Were the responses you got back then unsatisfactory?
Attacks from desperate wolves used to be a common problem, at least in medieval France. One possible origin of the werewolf myth is peasants (or their livestock or children) seeing wolves that are big and scary enough that they feel it must be supernatural. That said, packs of wolves regularly attacking groups of awake, armed, and uninjured adult humanoids is unrealistic, unless if there's a particular reason for why those wolves would be desperate. From a gameplay perspective it's also more challenging to make wolves interesting to fight. Even a goblin can speak, use weapons, or make traps. Most animals can't do any of that, so you have to get creative with set-up (Like a pack of wolves eating a dead horse, its rider nowhere to be found. Or there's something visibly fucked-up about the wolves, implying that there's some greater force that's corrupted them).Adding dogs (or wolves) to a group of humanoid enemies (Guards, hunters, druids, bandits) can make an encounter feel more varied though.
>>97269790Why don't you try playing a game and find out for yourself?
>>97269790They're individually weak and a hazard for farmers. They're the goblins of animals.
>>97270004Also they aren't super weak. Being tripped is a big fucking deal at the level you're fighting wolves, and they use pack tactics, so you're tripped *and* flanked. That's a serious threat.
