Previous thread: >>97111514GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.If you're wondering where to start:- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

>>97240306The only issue I can think of is that 3rd edition was fairly generous with sloped armour. In reality, the effects are rather variable depending on the form and angle of the attack, but the vehicles rules just made it universally good against everything.
>>97240378Vehicle rules in 4e are pretty ass anyway
>>97240790Sorry we can't expand on that we need to republish Basic Set to own the chuds
>>97241343Isn't there some anon that paid the guy to write a pseudo-vehicle 4e for him o 'algo?
Do you prefer systems with a strict class-based martial/caster division or classless systems that allow anyone to dip into anything at the cost of never being great at it?
>>97239160>I'll go a step further. The dynamics of builds in any system should be that in a solo single-class build should be worse than a solo multi-class build,That is a stupid take designed to pander to competitive multi-classing optimizers. A Fighter 5/Barbarian 5/Ranger 5/Paladin 5 should not be a better Fighter than a Fighter 20. In a truly well built system solo class builds and synergestic multi-class builds should be equally viable with comparable power.

do you use character portraits in your game?how do you get them? do you use any websites\generators? do you use AI? how do you prompt it?
>>97241372you sound like a storyshitter if NPC portraits matter that much to you
>>97241540>storyshitterStill seething about games you don’t play?
>>97241540It's not about any specific aspect of the game, it's about the spiritual aura of the players and components. Some things have a pastoral charioteer aura and some things have a dalit sedentary farmer aura, and AI image gen is firmly in the latter category, tainting the spiritual resonance of anything it's used for.

>>97236366>Using real art, by a real artist, who knows how to draw>Using generated art, by a machine that is approximating art by slapping existing art together in an algorithm>"How are these functionally different?"At the risk of using a fallacious-sounding line of arguing, the results are so self-evident that it was silly that you even said this. Just for starters, human artists know for sure how many fingers someone has. They can draw eyes more accurately, and can actually comprehend light and shadow. They don't have their "style" warped by color filters or have issue generating female characters without hair intakes due to being loaded with cliche anime art. And so on, and so on. And that's just the stuff ado with the quality of the material. There are other angles at which you could discuss the matter as well.
I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.
>>971861088th wasn't the best but it was the last edition worth playing. The accompanying edition of Kill Team that used a lot of its core rules and datasheets was nice for the sake of homebrew and modularity as well.
>>97223256That's why I said dial back the bullshit.
>>97186108It was the last time 40k was actually funIt was a long needed refresh especially after the clusterfuck 6th and 7th had become but it created a trend of dumbifying the game and making it all catered towards the "competitive" gameplayIt was the middle ground in between 40k falling into two extremes>6th-7th where the entire game revolved around cheesing the fuck out of it>9th-10th where the entire game revolves around buying the strongest list in the current meta that shifts every other monthMy younger brother and I still occasionally play it to this day

I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing. So the PCs are gonna be rubbing elbows with a lot of noble families as they make their way into high society. I’m just asking for NPCs and ideas. Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.
Any families/NPCs y’all can come up with?
>>97236881Area: The Eastmarch (that is, the border region in the east)Family: House of AthalSeat of power: New Athaka (minor town, 3 associated fortified positions). Head of the house: margrave Boskas AthalOrigin: the eastmarch was conquered from the [insert enemy here] by the previous generation. The land was mostly settled by soldiers from that war. The margrave Boskas of Athal is a distinguished veteran of that war, known for having led a band of 250 men to keep the enemy from breaking through at [not Thermopylae] and thus granting time for the main army to circle the mountain and destroy the enemy forces. Those who volunteered that day and live are the minor knights (about 70) who settled the region as pioneers. For his service, margrave Athal was pledged ownership of the lands around the mountains. He now holds those lands against raiders and incursions by the previous owners. Economy: sheep, logging and limited mining. The mountains contain some iron, and the rivers that flow down the mountains allow for logging works and wool production alike to use river transport towards the nearby free city of [Whatever]. Military situation: the region is filled with veterans and their offspring. Few question the authority of the margrave. He has taken two fortresses, and built another at the site of [not Thermopylae] to round out the defense. While the fortresses and their garrisons are costly, the economy is somewhat bolstered by the newly forming cultivation of the land and trade with the nearby free city. Politics: the free city is split between excitement over the economic opportunities, and the fear of such a powerful military force on their doorstep. The original inhabitants are mostly glad to be freed of the previous owners, but have many gripes about ownership and rights as they used to be free tribes before the enemy rolled in. The margrave lacks funding, and hopes to secure it with either the crown or the free city.
>>97233040You can have one extra peasant-y peasant who demonstrates why the nobility really do look down on people who haven't been trained in the proper ways to talk and behave. And an impoverished noble who had to let all his house staff go and is pretending he didn't.And give them manners and airs so even if a noble became as poor as a peasant and had to sell his last estate, they'd still feel superior to people born and raised peasants.
>>97233040Probably a military officer with noble blood. That's the kind of nobility adventurers would have the most dealings with. Maybe some provincial governor or duke who either gave out the mission or is scheming something.
Take a look at Houses of the Blooded.

>>97239114Confirmed low IQ game.Solved games are always trash.
>>97239124Not really. Checkers are solved, but most people won't bother (or aren't able) to reach computer-level cognition in order to play perfect move every time, meaning you can play a decent match anyway.I didn't play Mancala even once in my life, but I assume a similar situation applies here.
>>97239124Confirmed low IQ poster.Doesn't know only kalah version has been solved.
>>97241564You are correct. The game is simpler for six holes each side with four stones each or with five stones each but with six stones each the game is very difficult for a human to follow perfect play. There is no human implementable version of an algorithm for six stone kalah that guarantees the first player win that the solution states exists for perfect play.
