So with CGL testing pickup play missions in the current Playtest packet, we need to come up with something better, because we need to always have a better alternative to make it clear how shit CGL is. So how do we make a better pickup game system for Battletech?

The classics were miserable then and are miserable now. It doesn't accurately reflect 90% of the fantasy genre or create a good gaming experience.
People enjoyed it back then similar to how people 15000 years ago felt warm in their shallow cave at night - it's better than not having any option. Compared to a warm modern house, or a correctly designed game, that experience was always terrible, people just gaslighted themselves.
>>
>>97253976
Concession accepted. Maybe play with adults next time, who sit down with the purpose of having fun as a group and creating interesting gameplay and stories, so they don't intentionally try to ruin the game they want to have fun instead.
>"B-But-"
No, faggot. You just give the asshole one warning, and you kick him if he doesn't conform to the experience everyone else is trying to have.

>Two were warships in the loosest possible sense; vast, brutal conglomerations of iron plates, gun decks, and exposed engine spines, bellowing static and challenge on every frequency at once. The third was something worse. A hollowed-out asteroid, its original mass mutilated beyond recognition, bristling with so many crude propulsion systems that it no longer travelled so much as thrashed through space, spiraling and smashing itself into whatever space debris was in its clumsy path.

>Together, they descended upon the Pleasure Moon.

>It had never been meant to face such a thing. Classified as strategically negligible, denied formal fortifications, and stripped of meaningful void defenses on the grounds that it produced nothing of value beyond indulgence and morale, the moon lay exposed. Its orbital traffic control logged the incoming signatures. Its administrators issued queries. Its defense committees convened emergency sessions that achieved nothing at all.

>By the time the first alarms reached the leisure spires and pleasure domes, the Orks were already burning for atmosphere, ready to slaughter.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,

I've been developing my own alternating activation war game. Designed and printed my own bases and meeples in Blender for playtesting and it's been going well. I've got the core rules essentially finished and I've got 9 complete factions with 11 units each that I've been slowly playtesting and tweaking.

I've been using 40k terrain and objective templates since they're going to be close enough in size to my idea to work for testing.

Still have a little ways to go before it's even close to being polished, and I'm years away from ever being able to design my own minis with my basic Blender skills. I'm hoping I can tune it up to a point where I can actually be able to pitch it one day. The few people I've gotten to playtest it so far at least enjoyed the fact that it's not warhammer, so that's nice.

This year it would be nice if I got it all cleaned up to a point where I can form a small consistent local play group.

I don't understand why you used 40k terrain layout and objectives, though, considering that's the absolute worst aspect of current 40k

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Did order the starters yes! I'm hoping it catches on, but when I told the group it involves dice they were very intrigued so I think it'll get some steam and help some counting skills grow too.
I have not heard of that one so I will take a look. I have access to a color printer so the world of acgs is my oyster until I find one the people want lol. It has a very ghetto design to it, but I have some folk who I know are massive halloween freaks so itll be a good drawer game to keep around

The absolute state of modern Verbenae
>>>/his/18269156
>>
So I'm the one working out a custom, homebrew Thaumaturgy path for divining True Names. Why is this important? Because one doesn't exist for vampires in the system, and thaumaturgists DO in fact utilize the slow, powerful practice of discerning something's True Name in order to endlessly invoke it for the purposes of substituting for rare, exotic, perishable reagents. Like wedding rings tinged with the longings of widows, or unicorn horn, or the states of solid, liquid and gas- and then the different periodic table elements, emotions, compounds like water, energies like fire, electricity and such.

All these rituals can be extended actions to improve duration of effects..

Level 1: Find the Name: This sensory thaumaturgy spell is built on the power of the level of the Path. At level 1 it improves the efficacy of True Name research by one hour per success, as mystical acumen guides the hands of the thaumaturgist..Where before mechanically one would treat time towards research as a 1:1, now you roll Willpower against a difficulty of 6 and spend a blood, improving the progress of researching and number crunching the name (which is already a kind of arbitrary handwaved process as is.) First by a single hour per success, then by six hours per success, then by one day per success, then by a week per success, then by a month per success, then by half a year per success.

Level 2: Find the Named: Once the Namer has the True Name of the target, they can invoke a ritual to always be able to tell where they are and what they're doing, regardless of distance so long as they exist, anywhere in time and space. Success on the Willpower roll equals duration it lasts, and while the very brief scry is crystal clear and gives the namer a 360 degree field of view around the target, more successes equals more accuracy on geoguesssing the target, the clarity of the scry and how long they can keep it up for.
(Continued)
>>
>>97283300
>>97283348
The Erciyes Fragments provide a possible insight into what the Ventrue Antediluvian's blood requirement actually is. Quoth Caine
>Behold my proudest childe, whose own pride betrayed him. Let the blood of the humble sicken him, and give him no sustenance.

Given how humble is in contrast to Ventru being described as prideful to a fault, it sounds like Ventru can only drink from prideful mortals, and as anyone with a dash of humility sickens him. Now the text may not be literal, but it's the only bit of evidence one way or another we have.

Ultimately Ventru's blood type isn't even that restrictive, which I suppose follows as the Ventrue curse is entirely based on the individual, not the strength of their blood.
>>
>>97284356
Level 3: Try the Named, Try the Namer
The Namer can temporarily erect a ward which disrupts attempts to discern their True Name. At their discretion, they can choose to make it a blatant effect, or a subtle effect. The blatant effect causes the True Namer intellectual pawing over the characteristics of their true name to indescribable mental anguish to soak with their willpower equal to the successes garnered on an Extended Action to build this protective barrier. Or, the subtle way, which makes the would-be attempter forget aspects of the True Name like a thief sneakily removing things from the shelves of another as they organize them, making sure they always lack crucial bits of the true name. This can also be done to cause someone else incomprehensible, debilitating pain or unease, once per day. It won't harm or kill, as the spontaneous nature of this Path is too dull and blunt for that, but as a demonstration of an infinite reach and influence, it can be mortifying.

Level 4: Share the Intuition. Anyone that gazes upon the Namer within 10 yeards/10 meters/30 feet gets visions of the True Name and the Named in all their complexity, seeing and comprehending what the Namer sees for the duration and enabling them to affect the target as if they had infinite range.

Level 5: Scribe the Name. Supernatural inscription motivates the sorcerer's hand. In whatever cypher they have developed to shorthand for True Names, uncanny accuracy will guide their actions while they hold the secrets of the target's true name in their mind, printing off a copy as perfect and accurate as the original comprehension of the name, saving time and effort.
>>
>>97284384
Ventrue Rarified Tastes also absolutely can be things which don't exist anymore. Such as the blood of Doggerlanders, or members of city-states that don't exist anymore.

How this is resolved is other Ventrue more or less have to cordon off the poor bastard and let them starve for a while, then let them out. Whatever it is they wind up eating, they develop a new rarified taste for it. But it's not super predictable what that is or becomes, and cannot be really controlled.

So a Ventrue could exist, staked and waiting to rise from torpor, that can only subsist on individuals that specifically are CURRENT members of the Soviet Union. And modern day former-Soviet states, even individuals that were Soviet citizens, won't suffice. Because they aren't Soviets, anymore. Because the USSR is dead.

How big are the pieces? The funny thing with resin is, if you print one or many on the same printrun, it takes the same time. FDM on the other hand takes the same time per model, so two take twice as long.

So it could be that printing in resin would take way less time than fdm if you can cram enough onto the buildplate.

resin allows finer details but different material properties. FDM is generally a less-involved and quicker process at the expense of minute detail. FDM printers tend to have more buildspace and filament is generally cheaper than resin so it's good for terrain, and filament is generally better for functional parts due to the properties of the materials used to print.
tldr resin is good for visual pieces, fdm is good for functional pieces. resin printing is a more labor intensive process

fuckin' wiseguy uh? kek

This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want.
This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

"AD&D" 2e is a bowdlerised knockoff for the storygaming special education kids of Satanic Panic moms. It's the worst edition ever published under the D&D brand. It's all unplaytested splatbooks which are literal shit and setting books written for nogame morons to read rather than play. It's unusable for OSR play because it breaks too many of the core OSR mechanics. It's usable for storyfagging in principle, but you have no reasons to choose it over editions that are much better designed for that style, like 3e and 5e.

If you think that pile of absolute garbage qualifies as OSR, it says everything about (You) and nothing about the OSR.

It's kind of funny that you think that your bullshit is anything even remotely connected with reality.

It's just AD&D but written in a clear and easy to understand fashion. All you've done is start with your conclusion ("Everyone must hate 2e") and then done the most pathetic mental gymnastics in hopes of presenting something you hope could be mistaken for an argument.

>actual 50-something year old grognards that played holmes and molvay when they came out will call even 5e offshoots like shadowdark and olde sword regin OSR
All that proves is that being old yourself gives you no particular understanding of what the term "old-school" means in relation to D&D.

>in no universe is 2e old school
You accidentally insterted an excess negative here, FTFY

are you clinically retarded?
OSR is not some badge of high quality it's just about preserving a certain style of play which 2e absolutely can be do if needed

You don't need to preserve storyfaggotry: It's alive and well in all WotC editions, mongoloid.
