▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Something about taxation is theft. I don't remember the details but a really negative responce to a fairly basic part of the game like 1:1 time.
>>
>>97207832
That's it?
Those are far less taxing than AD&D poindexters make it out to be. It's negligible even. OD&D has higher upkeep and even that is easy to afford. ACKS characters will be collecting taxes at a certain point and will have no problems affording their upkeep when it starts to ramp up.

I think I remember something about taxing dungeon loot directly.
Not upkeep cost but local lord smells the gold and pops in to take his tenth (or more) because the dungeon is on land he claims to own.

two new players, three long time players. we were supposed to do a new one-shot. Everyone just kinda... sucked? I feel like I was doing my normal GM stuff but they were all so dumb tonight, couldn't think of basic solutions to any problem. we got through maybe 1/3 of what was supposed to be a one-shot. what do you do when players suddenly become retarded? game was barbarians of lemuria btw.

Ok so the lock is going to melt itself in regular use.
>The locks are lead which is resistant to the acid
The only acids lead is resistant to require too high of a volume and too much time to cause significant damage to an iron lockpick. Furthermore, if the lock itself is made of lead, it would take no effort to brute force open, which OP specified was not possible and leads to failure.

>Do they know you expect them to do mapping?
Better yet, or worse.
OP expected his players to 'map the area', and clearly hasn't given them a dungeon map.

If he had given them a map, or even just drawn out the shapes on a notepad, this entire thing wouldn't be an issue.

OP is not only a shit GM, but expecting his players to correctly visualize a complex 3d space by verbal description alone, and is getting mad that they fail to intuitively recognize that they've been in a space between two points.
>>
>>97206676
Yes the riddle is easy even without making the connection from nitz to knights which is retarded to begin with because you indicate a short sound i. Make it Nitez or shit. Why would that entire retarded setup even exist? If you don't want your players lockpicking a door don't add a door or add a lethal trap as if someone actually protected that room. A set of reinforced bars with no obvious way in would make the existence of a hidden door near the statues even clearer.

You are reinforcing a behavior on your players that will make them less likely to engage with the riddle anyway. If they wanna use an ability that they chose to learn, in a way that makes sense, don't "gotcha" them with retarded roadblocks. Instead change the challenge. They wanna bash the door in? Now they have to find a way to banish the guardian ghost. They wanna lockpick it? Now they have to deal with a lethal roomtrap. Did they overcome either of them? Now they "earned" their entry by going ahead with the method they chose and have a sense of accomplishment for 'outsmarting' the dm or feel like their character was useful because the way they built it added to the progress of the story.

Once inside you can have them accidentally notice the hidden mechanism and everyone will have a good time about how obvious it was and how they managed to miss it.

Stop being a "no" dm and start being a "yes but..." dm

In boardgames we do great, in ttrpg we play different tablets because our play-styles don't mesh well.
>>
>>97223311
So far it ranges between not at all to positive
Two dudes from our group regulary had new GFs and often brought them to the table
In most cases they didn´t participate much or at all, there was maybe one or two cases that made the game worse but those always dropped out quite early
we had one case where the GF simply liked the Game and actually participated

So overall it is not bad, as long as they join becuase they have an actual interest, if they just join to spend more time with their bf/husband it won´t hurt and if they just join to get more attention from boys, they will get bored quickly and leave

Both Thallax and Ursarax are some of the best units Mech has at the moment, at least where I'm concerned. Thallax are very efficient, get a ton of good S8 AP2 firepower and can easily be boosted to BS5 from across the board. Ursarax basically need you to take their Apex to get really good, but once you do they're probably the most efficient horde munchers in the game, they'll sweep tacs or similar off the board effortlessly and take a disgusting amount of effort to put down.

Perhaps the most intuitive Mech list I've got at the moment is Archmagos Lacry w/ 10 thralls, 2x Magos Reductor with Thallax, a third unit of multimelta Thallax for deep strike and then a full Apex of 27 Ursarax. Fill in the gaps with Vultarax and a bunch of armour and call it good.

It’s the opposite. I don’t care that much about the lore but i likewise don’t want to play against some ballaching metafag which is the majority of people i’ve met in KT so far. To claim that you just want to “throw some dice” is absurd when metafags are the least casual players you can go against.

My last game had my opponent go over the entire meta leaderboard status of the top teams and how the newest dataslate could impact the upcoming this and that other fuckin tournament. Who gives a shit.

>>97216044
I’ve never met the latter in my life in any game. I would find a /yourdudes/ autist pretty annoying i’m sure but i’ve yet to even meet one to make this observation.

The most fun games are somewhere in the middle where it’s a good clean fun game where the rules are observed but both sides remember that we are trying to simulate dudes fighting eachother and not merely moving spreadsheets around
>>
>>97222716
>both sides remember that we are trying to simulate dudes fighting eachother and not merely moving spreadsheets around
Not instigating anything, but what would this look like to you? And how would it impact the game or enhance the enjoyment of the battle? I ask because used to live in a place where our local spot tried to implement a sort of narrative campaign but it ended up just being limply implemented and mostly limited to a whiteboard map that got colored in depending on what faction (Chaos, Xenos, Imperium) won the most games in any given week.
For me, KT has fun rules and good game design so just the act of playing is enjoyable; you could strip out the flavor of the teams and it still would be enjoyable on a mechanical level. Obviously the flavor is what adds the special spice to the game, getting to interact with the factions/setting you like and all that comes with that, but at its heart KT is still a warGAME to me.

Anyone played the new raveners ?
How do they play ? are they more of a aggro team or do they just hide in their tunnel and do missions mostly ?

hard to discribebut they mostly play passive aggro. practically like traps. if som, ething comes to close to the tunnel. they seem durable but mostly aren't. so hit n run tactics are a must.

Probably because the Pariah gene is hard to work with and they don't want to fuck with it by using lots of biotechnology on them. It's the same reason the Necrons never fully colonized Earth during the War in Heaven, because cultivating it in early humans was more trouble than it was worth.
>>
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing female Chaos Marines, since Fabulous Bile has always made a big deal of trying new stuff with Geneseeds. They already did those Gland Hound things that were like cheaper versions that could be used on both sexes and allow them to breed new ones the normal way.

You add several competing "dominate" species on top of it who are all competing with each other, as well as other "pest" races and monstrosities that make singling one out too much effort, as it would take resources away from other threats that need to be dealt with.

>>97227594
I played one game of it using proxy bases, it's pretty fun. I don't really have much to compare it to though, I don't play many rank and flank games. A typical game uses brigades made of four or five regiments with each regiment being made up of five "stands" which the majority of units represent with 2"x2" bases (artillery puts all five on one 4"x4"). Each brigade has an overall commander and initiative is handled with both dice and cards. Each regiment rolls a d6 at the start and then when it's time to activate units, you draw a card from 1-6. But brigade commanders can collect up all the dice from units near them and hand them back out as the numbers come up, so there's more control closer to your commander.

>I wonder if drugs made by elves are more potent because they're so old and develop a resistance to it with over use so they have to develop harder and harder drugs
Honestly, I think it'd be the opposite since elf societies are usually very serene and subtle, and in 40k elves are explicitly trying not to be hedonistic. Also, old people naturally have lower drug tolerances. As a drinker (not an alcoholic, I control it fine, I just drink frequently) I noticed that tolerance can lower with age and you have to rebuild it if you go a couple months without drinking.

>but in other RPGs its just 100 you fall.
Not really, in DH and RT you do get malignancies at regular corruption intervals, which represent minor mutations and the PCs mind getting more and more twisted.
But a better guidline for how many should be awarded for what would definitely be useful.
That being said, I always though it's a bit wonky that there are both insanity and corruption points. Sure, on one hand a character can get just "regularly" insane without any contact with Chaos, but someone who is becoming strongly affected by the warp probably isn't exactly right in the head either. And I feel like many situations that would "award" a PC with corruption points tend to be so traumatic that they should give them insanity points as well (contact with warp entities or phenomena, witnessing a drastic ritual etc.). I just feel like those concepts are too intertwined to warrant 2 completely separate type of resource
>>
>>97227682
>too intertwined to warrant 2 completely separate type of resource
Why not? Just means that you also hand out insanity when you hand out corruption (if it's fitting), not the other way around.

>>97227523
I think he tried to write "sigh"
>>
>>97227682

I disagree. excluding DW the insanity system has concrete mental illnesses you have to roll for like night terrors or compulsive disorders. A chaos worshiper could end up with these but that would be from having regular traumatic experiences not the metaphysical concept of etheric corruption. It's also clearly different than the twisted outlook brought on by corruption and it wouldn't really work as a single mechanic.

The insanity mechanic isn't just "he's craaaaazy" kind of characterisation and more an actual mental disorder you can point to medically. i.e What parts of the DSM 4 apply to Kharn the Betrayer?
>>
>>97227682
Finding the dismembered bodies of an underhive gang arranged to spell out an insult to the local enforcers should result in gaining insanity (but not corruption), unlike if the body parts had been used to lay out a chaos ritual, which would give both.
>>
>>97227925
>I think he tried to write "sigh"

My LGS closed for the week so yeah it is dead
>>

my lgs asked if we wanted our regular digimon event ran on christmas eve or if they should shut down.
4 or 5 people wanted it to run and others had plans

I (and a few others) insisted they close and we can run something else online or whatever if we really need to play digimon that day and there is no need for it to run on a public holiday when we can just miss a day.

Yeah I'm glad they're taking a break just wish we'd had the forethought to co-ordinate going to the next nearest store that theoretically runs Digimon on the same night.
Also first night back is Evo Cup which is kind of a bummer because I prefer it more laid back but we have too many Omni players for that

Does anyone else feel like the Byzantine Empire is the closest thing human-kind had to an Elven civilization analogy during our actual history's middle ages? Or am I crazy?

Even the part where their highly advanced culture was eventually wiped off the face of the Earth and forgotten in most normie perceptions of history.

Elves suppose to use castrated elves as high rank government officials?
>>
>>97222151
Depends on your Elves. Could definitely see it for Dark Elves, what with all the backstabbing, instability, gruesome punishments (by current standards). For your basic bitch altruistic fantasy Elves, not so much.

Elves only grow testicles during the mating season, like eels
