Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

i guess it's sort of NSR but it's a swedish d&d game from the 80s and its pretty OSR imo, besides the NSR general has nothing in it other than a bitter troll

General tips
>have a map for the players to fill in, doesn't have to be a hex map but something they can work with
>have an at hand weather and encounter table that's easy to use
>have a premade short list of usable terrain features/descriptions to draw on during encounters
I found these breakdowns of hexcrawling useful.

Can give advice how to fuse together Fomalhaut and Yoon Suin? I will run Fomalhaut and want add Yooun Suin on far east. There are two reasons for this. First i like both setting, and second I want to add a really big city and Yun Suin with its Indian vibes seems like a great addition to the Mediterranean Greek/Arabic vibes of the main region.

>solo gamer wants to talk about anxiety
It'll be okay. Don't prep the end, just set up the world a bit and let people explore. Explain those concepts at the beginning. They're going to have very different ideas about what's going on or the point of the activity than you, that's not a problem.
No advice for that game, doubtful you'll get much traction with it here.
>>
>>97235494
I've used Yoon-Suin quite a bit. What about it were you thinking of using specifically?
>Indianess
The Hundred Kingdoms part is very India inspired, but wasn't a part I used at all. Its on the map but wasn't as interesting to anyone so we haven't gone there.
Starting in the Yellow City worked well enough, generating an outsider's quarter with the tables gave me enough to work with and do an intro adventure.
The hex content generation for Lahag was I think, in retrospecct compared to other hexcrawling I've run and read about, too crowded. There's basically an encounter every hex which themes with the jam packed jungle but felt like too much in play.
>fomalhaut
I've only used the Nocturnal Table and liked it quite a bit.

Nah, just want to find a balance between discard and something thematic and fun. Yeah it's not going to be very powerful, but that's not what I want to build. Idk maybe rogues and treasure tokens could work as well.

I've heard it advertised on YouTube a whole bunch, and it sounds pretty fun, but I haven't had time to play it yet.
Has anyone played this game?

That's my worry, too.
A human's touch doesn't guarantee quality (just look at D&D 5e and pretty much everything on DriveThru RPG), but AI shit is notorious for being hilariously bad.
I've been hesitant to spend time on this game because of how much AI has been involved in its promotion.

Yugioh goes back and forth with this making archetypes extremely xenophobic and works really well when it does, but then they go and print shit like Habakiri every now and again.
>>
>>97235461
People who think a reset or rotation will "fix" the game aren't good at pattern recognition. Speed Duel was intended to be a soft reset and look at Duel Links now. Rush was intended to be a soft reset and look at the state of Rush now.
>>
>>97233845
>dark/fiend/0atk/effect is the most common monster statline with 80 some cards.
Fact check?
>>
>>97235383
>You can't fix yugiohs problem without just banning entire mechanics or starting over and making a new game
I don't see that happening. Especially not a new game. There's not enough support in the West for two games (even if they brought it over Rush Duel would die on the vine), and they'd never outright jettison or restart the original game. And, again, resets alone do not guarantee a good game even when they're regular; they just help mitigate mistakes and can aid in preventing things from spiraling out of control while still encourzging players to buy new cards (which is what matters). I haven't played Rush Duel and know little about it, but Konami will still be Konami and I'm guessing Rush Duel reflects it.

I know financially well-off mortals who do it anyways. No matter your walk of life, I guess free shit is free shit. We have Mercury Lamp's dolls on the case. The problem with such high caliber rounds is that there isn't much of a body left, I've seen trains being more gentle.
Here's what I'm allowed to share for the time being: it was a group of five males. One had a large Schwarze Sonne tattooed on his pectoralis major. Another had glass fragments of what were once 2 or 3 vials in his pocket, one crudely labeled "FENT", again we can't test this as they were broken and contaminated by one another and blood. What's left of them reeks of alcohol.

Did this Palatine ghoul, embrace, care for, recruit from, organize, or had any connection whatsoever with neo-nazis and/or people involved in the fentanyl trade?
Uncle The Devil Wears Me is walking back and forth the hallway, cane in both hands, ranting about some "zevel levan."
Then again we deal with so many stupid people as of late, I can't even exclude the asshole thought the black sun was just a cool symbol, like your average American with a T-shirt with a Buddha, Om or Che Guevara on it.

Can't they be just clueless biomass who had a case of fuck around and find out, just because this one night the house was quieter than usual?

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

>Barker wrote a sixth novel, Serpent's Walk, under the pseudonym Randolph D. Calverhall, an allusion to one of Barker's ancestors.[24][25][26] Serpent's Walk is a science fiction story,[27] presenting an alternate history in which SS soldiers begin an underground resistance after the end of World War II. A hundred years later, their descendants take over the United States of America.[28] The book's protagonist becomes the Führer and worldwide dictator of the Fourth Reich.[25] The book espouses the belief in an international Jewish conspiracy,[27] suggests the solution to the "Jewish question" is genocide, and extensively quotes Mein Kampf.[25] The novel was published in 1991 by National Vanguard Books, the book publishing division of the neo-Nazi group the National Alliance, which published white supremacist and neo-Nazi material including The Turner Diaries.[25][27][28]

I try not to visualize it because visualizing it usually sucks. Realistically probably you carry it in your hand or affixed diagonally to your huge backpack, and you pull a strap to drop the entire backpack as soon as combat begins.

I like using houserules which make carrying capacity dramatically reduced, which solves the issue. You either carry the pole in your hand, or on your cart/mule, or you don't take it at all.

>I will be attending the first of these games on Candlemass day, which is set to pit greenskins against some surviving khorne worshipers they've captured.
>Emperor willing this will be the beginning of true peace to our world.
>But knowing Candlemass that seams unlikely and I'll be waiting the whole time for some new threat to emerge.

>The game seams to be going well so far.
>The orks swapped the ball for a squig in the first round but aside from that things have calmed down as much as they can in a game of Blood Bowl.
>The field already has a few puddles of blood that have frozen and are tripping some of the players.

>From what I gather the team line up seams to be something like:
First Round (currently on): Orks vs Khorne
Second Round: (Whoever wins) vs Slaanesh team
Third Round: (someone) vs Eldar

>Be Shisrak the Chill Bloodletter
>Making small talk with the daemonettes is starting to wear on my patience.
>I simply cannot relate to a conversation about the “weirdest thing that you have shoved up your bum”, and after an hour I have run out of variations of “is that so”, “how unfortunate”, and “that is impressive” that I can add to the discussion.
>I sprinkle some blood into the fireplace and check up on what some of my followers are up to.
>Like most Bloodletters, I am responsible for providing guidance to eight different senior shamans who support everything from feral tribes to roaming bands of space pirates to surprisingly stable advanced civilizations. Although officially Khorne hates all magic, there are a bunch of exceptions for things like communicating with daemons, summoning daemons, creating creating daemon weapons and daemon engines, but I digress.
>Unlike most Bloodletters who always advise their shamans to take the most violent possible option, I try to sometimes give somewhat more sensible advice.
>So when a small tribe of Khornates got cornered by Orks in a canyon and were likely at serious risk of being wiped out by massed artillery fire, I advised them to accept the Ork offer of surrender, assuming that the Orks would use them as slave soldiers in a fairer fight elsewhere.
>But instead, the Orks ordered the tribals to participate in a game called Blood Bowl. Intrigued, I urged my followers to take learning the rules and plays of the game seriously by trotting out the “honor” line that Khornates sometimes use when it suits our purposes.
>Anyways, the game itself has started and so far no one has scored. The Orks are bigger than even the biggest mutants on the Khornate team and seem to be more interested in picking fights than actually playing the game.
>How boring, I get to see Khornates and Orks fight each other all the time, I wanted to see an actual Blood Bowl game!

>I activate the skull I use to communicate with the shaman (who is also the coach) and remind him to use plays that involve sneaking fast runners around the main scrum and deep behind the Ork lines.
>And then a large hatch opens in the middle of the field and a platform from somewhere below rises up with a large robot on it.
>Wait, is that something allowed under the rules? I grab the rulebook I brought with me and start flipping pages.
