>>97259329So, the "mertalizer". Did they just make that one up for Legion?
>>97266587Yep. Same with the Shore Trooper Mortar. And the upcoming Guerilla Troopers for rebels. Game companies coming up with new things to suit their needs is not a new thing.>>97266466That's kind of a vague critique, anon, but I think I know what you mean. I suggest taking a look at a few battle reports on youtube.>abstracted/schematicNot really, imo. You could say it about the command card effects, but this is the only obvious aspect. In my experience, almost all units just feel right to their portrayal in Star wars, especially the characters. As someone with 100+ Legion games under the belt, the game does feel like a proper war game. It is a game that rewards good movement and positioning, looking at the battlefield holistically, and setting up blocks and traps. The nice thing about Legion is that its listbuilding system discourages extreme skews, making sure that almost all lists look like proper armies. Are there any mechanics in particular that you want to ask about?

Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.If you're wondering where to start:- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. I finally got around to watching True Detective S1, really good shit, watched it with my pa too. Got me in a certain mood so I dug up my collection of Machen short stories and the complete John Silence stories I got for my birthday a couple years back, they scratch the itch somewhat. Getting back into X-Files too and I'm wondering if anyone has any particular favorites when it comes to that genre of occult detective and/or conspiracy thriller with horror overtones?

>>97266895Voices of the Void strikes a really different feel with its horror. You play as some dude searching and saving signals from beyond using a satellite array. That's it. But you have to go out and service these satellites and check on the power station. Exploring is neither encouraged or discouraged. It's a very slow burn game until it very much is not. Sometimes things happen. Sometimes they don't. One of my favorite little details is that the doors on your base all have passkeys on them, so that they can be locked. It's never told to you as to why you would need such security, it's just there. Lot's of small things like that.Unfortunately it's gotten a (mostly deserved) reputation for being the dev's magical realm. If you downloaded the game and just played it, you wouldn't have any idea about it. But going to any sort of community involving the game would immediately barrage you with canonical/formerly canonical/fanon magical realm content that can possibly kill tension for the game itself. I personally don't mind most of it, honestly. But I know some will absolutely detest it. So if you are interested in playing it, go in blind to the game and its community until you've had your fill, or wait for the game to be complete (currently version 0.8.2). It's free.https://mrdrnose.itch.io/votvFor /tg/ purposes, it may work best as a single player TTRPG. Maybe could have up to 3 or 4 people total, but you'd have to add more objectives and tasks for players to do, which could become tedious. The less people the better, for tension.
Gun to your head, you can only put 5 humanoid/demihuman races in your setting. After those five, you’re done. You chose humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, and ents? No gobbos and orcs for you. What are you choosing?

This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want. This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.PREVIOUS THREAD>>97206318
>>97265370>you need to understand that there's *no way* to bring all this content together in one consolidated volume. While it could be done since PDFs don't care about page count, I think the main nightmare is just how scattered all the rules are. Aside from optional mechanics and player options tucked away in various adventures, there's also heaps of stuff in Dragon/Dungeon magazines.Thankfully, some of the work was already done ages ago with the various compendium books, but it is kind of crazy just how much material was made for 2e, and this is far from an exhaustive list.https://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11454I think relying on wikis is really the best option at this point, though there are people who are doing their best to compile things like all the monsters in one space. https://www.completecompendium.com/
>>97265569>PDFs don't care about page countYeah but there's no actual, practical reason to make one gigantic PDF out of every book either instead of keeping the files separate on the same device, separate files is functionally identical to clear bookmarks in one huge file.
>>97264590>how would one go about doing thatWhat's so hard about making dungeons in the dark sun setting?Literally the world is full of ruins of the old world, just make the players explore those ruins. It's not rocket science.
>>97264398Fuck off, if someone wants to contribute it's making dungeons it's completely ok.
>>97265569>While it could be done since PDFs don't care about page countthey don't care about tabs as wellthere is nothing to be gained by combining entire books-worth of materials in a single pdfIMO

I really liked this game, but it made me sad because I have no imagination. :(
>>97264454It can be. In my experience it's been a lot of reading which is enjoyable but there's a lot of GURPS books you might want, so be prepared to dive in.

>>97266579I’ve been thinking of something to write with Jian. I think after the latest writefag he’d want to get stronger, since he was trying pretty hard to protect Moyu. I was thinking of using Chizi and Linghao in this story, maybe Shen again so that Jian can have that convo where it’s not his job to protect her, but Shen’s. Nobody knows this, but that’s step 1 in the looooong staircase to building their ship.
>>97263472>What did Heinrich and Wen do?I was basing it mostly off of the same thing >>97263496 brought up - but Wen's anon seems to imply this was done with consent so I'm wrong on them not being benevolent.>>97264107My first draft of the fight had Dashan tanking a second strike from Duan Lian for Jian, the talismans on him being the main reason he gets away without losing a limb. But finding a way to get him to the fight was difficult (maybe carried by Sanmo? But then he'd have to wait outside the gambling den the entire gambling scene, and he's a giant stone dog so I don't know if Sanmo can even lift him fully).I think I was going to include a line or two during the excuses/kowtow loop where Jian mentions that he needs to wait for Dashan to finish being painted by Ri, but ended up forgetting to add that - I was very quick with my proofreading/edit phase since I didn't want to delay the writefag any longer.
>>97267033Ah, I was thinking something like that might’ve been the case, since Moyu and Jian do fly away pretty far. I was just confused as to why Dashan hadn’t even been referenced in the whole story, which I see was just a quick edit situation. I understand anon, still a great story for all it was worth. I just wanted to know so I could make something out of it in whatever I write next.As I start turning the gears in my head for what to write next, I just want to say that I found it quite interesting how you wrote Jian as very focused on protecting Moyu. I mean, that’s totally something he’d do, but it’s cool because I can feed that into an arc. I think that’s a good motivation for getting stronger and sparring more with others.I’ve been thinking about it, and since I haven’t gotten around to a relationship chart yet, what makes Jian care about Moyu instead of considering her a simple nuisance is twofold: 1. She genuinely likes his company, dragon condition or no, and she holds him in high regard, and 2. Moyu is so proud, so haughty, so crass… Jian thinks Moyu is very human. That actually helps him stay anchored to his own humanity by acting like a boy his age should: getting into trouble, having fun and, to a degree, finding her a little pretty. (If he says that to her face, Jian will never hear the end of it from Moyu, surely). For all it’s worth, I kinda screwed up with my own edit of my last writefag myself. I intended to write a little moment where Kaoru wonders what Kenji would’ve thought about Godzilla 2000, being a movie guy and all, but I thought that might’ve been weird if she’s getting all romantic with Takaishi and she suddenly thinks about another guy. I’ll find better excuses to write more Kenji in the future, trust.

Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?Pic related: WFRP author James Wallis's response to a letter criticizing how railroaded The Enemy Within campaign was.
