GW itself went a clever way, by having the helmet look "normal" and the bare head be all corrupted.
>>
I have never wargamed before, but have recently gotten into 30k. I have 50 tac marines, 5 command sprues, the heavy weapon upgrade, disintegreator upgrade, a rhino, and ranged leviathan dreadnought. I also have 10 crimson paladins and some equipment for vets running combimeltas. I don't want to buy anymore plastic gold for a few months, and was wondering what setup would be best for this in the meantime?

What are "murderhobo games", described in your own words?
Be detailed and specific.
>>

Nothing really. A murderhobo is a hobo whose trade is killing things. A hobo is a migratory worker willing to work. It's the literal definition of an adventurer. Games about adventuring heroes are the backbone of the ttrpg hobby.

I largely found the opposite. Races had several viable approaches including smashing everything immediately, dashing to the first gate and opening fire, and racing off into the sunset. Deathmatch games don't give much hope to light, speedy teams. Flag Tag mostly went too far the other way as a couple of buggies could usually rush some flags while a heavier team had barely got started. And Saturday Night Live was hugely sponsor dependent.

Realistically you wouldn't have a missile poking out (if it's clearing the door, it's mid launch), but a Minuteman style door wouldn't be too hard to make; just a hunk of foam for the door and a couple of pieces of sprue for tracks.

It's incredibly fun. One of my favorite games ever made. One of those classically fresh games that reminds me why I love the hobby so much. The lack of restrictive miniatures rules works massively in its favor too rather than against it.

The fact you can play the game just by grabbing two hot wheels cars and throwing some bean cans and ramen packets on the floor makes it probably one of the most easy-to-play mini games ever. I'm not really averse to games that require a lot of army painting and setup or a lot of in-depth rules and character creation etc etc but I think they definitely create a barrier to entry that is hard to sell people on and get other players for. Gaslands, meanwhile, is incredibly easy to sell to people. "It's Hot Wheels cars, you use templates, and you roll a D6 with a single target value." This works perfectly to sell people on the game And it helps that it runs as good solo as well as with others. Sometimes when I'm bored on weekend nights I just do a quick death race with myself and it works just as fluidly because even solo you're still just trying to cause the most carnage as ever.

I would expect my childer to answer "Venus in Furs" or some affectionate nickname referring to me, but if you ask me, they should join me and give this answer: "the Prince of Paris."

Humans in the constellation of species how tolkien used them are the newest one.
But other authors and even tolkien himself failed to use that dynamic.
Humanity overall should behave like toddlers, compared to something like elves. Unhinged little things, with a lack of higher reasoning.
Yet toddlers are curious and have a lot of potential so humanities strength should be maturing into the ultimate beings. But they have yet to get there and no clue that they even could.

Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.

I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsing

So I started thinking.
For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?

Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup?

There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat?

What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory?

What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.

What are some of your experiences with BRP or mythras? Favorite stories, characters, or supplements?

I generally like running pulp or horror campaigns. Funniest story setup was how my players thwarted a small series of adventures I planned before it even started.
>Players role up an old priest, a journalist, and basically fred from scooby doo.
>Investigating a series of murders and disappearances.
>Get captured thesmelves and wind up in a rundown factory converted to sort of look likea victorian mansion.
>Meet an obvious vampire who uses them for basic company and conversation before planning to kill them.
>My players escape, the frail priest manages to full nelson the vampire, and the other players manage to use a stake to kill him.

It ended what I planned to be a multi session adventure in one night. It was a lot of lucky roles and ended up with being funny.

Quite a few actually
Imperative is broadened and highly simplied

While regular mythras is designed for fantasy settings from a tech level range of paleolithic all the way to late renaissance and napolnic
But assumes classical era bronze/Iron Age most of the time

Also way more shit to play with about five diffent magic systems you can chose to include or exclude entirely
And a complete combat effects system

Imperative is really a wide vertical slice that is missing a lot of shit though it has rules from a few supplements
It even has a heavily simplified version of the supers rules present in the standalone game destined

If you want sci fi stuff I would reccomend giving Luther Arkwright a spin

>>
>>97269950
Cons:
>Requires system mastery to flow correctly. Especially combat.
>Combat maneuvers become a bit solved with pcs always choosing the target location special ability to dog pile damage and incapacitate an enemy. (i have had to homebrew around that)
>Focus on simulationism even more than other d100 games might feel overly constraining.
>it is more of a toolkit system as far as magic is concerned especially.
>piles a lot on the gm to get it running properly.
>character creation is kinda flawed and deigned towards making you mediocre at 5-10 things.
Generally a lot of constrains when creating characters feels like an over correction more than anything.
>Combat style is inherently superior to other combat skills like evade, endurance and willpower which are your resistances
>action point system is kinda gamey and hardlocks you a little bit into mostly defending if numerically disadvantaged
>lack of gm advice and procedures for dungeoncrawling, hexploration, sandbox play even if it was large part of the oldschool d100
systems with settings like griffin island, especially considering that all the tools for such a style of play are there and the d100 is probably the only other game that can do that as well as the osr
>armor is a little weaker than it should be.
>the way xp rolls are gained is just worse and more gamey than the other organic ways used in d100 systems

This covers a good chunk of the cons. They did try to fix some of the issues with the target location thing by making that counter combat maneuver, but that implies a success getting used for that just to negate an issue. Make it really punishing if it happens.

I would disagree and say armor can actually be a little too strong in mythras at times in the hands of the players.

I played in a one-shot where the GM used hallucinated ChatGPT-drawn maps so bad they were actively useless. Not that positioning mattered, we were there to listen to the GM going on about his cool NPCs we didn't even get to interact with really. The maps were the worst part though, 10 minutes and graph paper could have made intelligible maps for the entire session. Hell, you could even use AI for reference, I don't care, just make them playable. Don't have us fighting in a 4 floor spiral staircase in a 2 floor house

Why do I have a feeling this thread was made by the anon from the player rage thread who was crying about not being allowed to roll his way through a game?

Anyway
>gm asks me if I'm a tranny because a play a female pc, ignoring that way over half of my characters are men (I rng most characters unless I have a solid concept) and other players do the same
>complains that his session ends early due to deck of many things shenanigans despite having introduced said deck and made us all draw from it
>invited way too many players, turns can take hours and we advance at a snails pace
>is ginger (the 2nd greatest of all sins)
>unfortunately got hooked on critical roll and that cartoon of it and now brings a lot of cr'isms into his game such as rule of cool, story arcs, and characters having big personal plot arcs
>watches anime in dub (the greatest of all sins)
That's all pretty minor though, he's a really great guy and his good parts outweigh those by a massive amount. Save for watching anime in dub, for that he will burn.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Just use the OSE srd
>>
For all its shortcomings in the censorship department, I think Dolmenwood mostly does well to add to the B/X base with clarifications, some from AD&D. For someone like me who is too autistic to organically fill in the blanks left in the rules, it's great material. The SRD is a bit messy, but at least it is easy to navigate (and thus it is easy to cherrypick the additions). It specifies the weight of misc. adventuring gear as well as things adventurers are capable of (thus preventing mudcore slowdown of play). However it still does not complete the wilderness game or add a complete domain game.
>>
>>97266427
Go with OSE. The best gateway into OS D&D. This general will try to convince you otherwise as it is popular and therefore bad

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

Nope. And honestly, I think another reason the expansions are delayed so much and content comes at a snail's pace is because Poots doesn't want KDM to end. It's his baby and without it, he (and KDM) will drift into obscurity and irrelevance.
>>
>>97269759
Well, pinups are not for Monster even tho some have promo cards. But yeah, it's his life now. Pretty good imo. Other than that, I can see licensed 3rd party studios making vidya, ttrpgs, etcetc.
>>
Every time I hunt spidicules I regret it. My best survivor has two broken legs now from the pit, all because he stole my survivor with tumble who WOULD HAVE been the event revealer right before I rolled the pit, and now since i only had 3 survivors I had to push everyone to get through the forest wants what it wants and the broken leg guy's starting the showdown with 3 bleeding tokens. FUCK SPIDICULES
>>
>>97270083
Well, aftermath the bleeding tokens didn't really matter but I'm still pseudo retiring the survivor as murder bait and breeding bitch. A shame, since he was pretty promising with all 3 people of the stars abilities and +1 accuracy. I probably could work around 3 movement (ESPECIALLY IF I COULD EVER FUCKING FIND CHOREIA), i have other promising children.

The only thing I houserule on this game is Intimacy
I use Intimacy 1000x times more than say Courage, and I don't have an Intimacy leveling up
Fuck that nigger
This bitch I had it's on her EIGHT offspring
If you are going to literally gamble your life every single time you intimacy, you sure as hell deserve some bonus for surviving over and over and over on that task
At this point in the game my survivors have more chance of dying from Intimacy than showdown

I saw a YouTube series once where two guys would use DM pack emulators to simulate a sealed pool of the first expansion and play a few games with each other. Then instead of creating an entirely new pool, they would instead get a pool from the second expansion, add the two pools together and play with decks created like that. So on for the third expansion, the fourth etc.
Do you think it would be fun to do something like this with another acg? And instead of two random dudes, it's a weekly tournament. Basically going through the history of a game.
Does this post make sense? I might be too tired

I think this is called a "Progression Series". It seems pretty popular with Yu-Gi-Oh.
I've never done it. It does sound fun though.

That sounds so fun. I played ScoreZ from the first set to the last, and it would be wild to go through that journey again using cards that were good at the time but were powercrept into irrelevance down the road.
A real headache, though, would be implementing the errata/ban/restricted along the way since the final CRD has been etched into my mind for over 20 years now.
