I'm afraid only Monty Python can (re?)create the kind of comedy he did. You're better off doing "your thing" during games.

IP slop. And I'm saying that as someone who loved the tv show and movies. Spamalot and Not the Messiah were also IP slop, but I don't begrudge Eric Idle the opportunity to rake cash from braindead nostalgiafags.

Why are there so many threads that ask vague non-questions about obscure non-topics? Like half the OPs on here are some gay shit like
>How do we fix the scrimblopunk genre?
Or
>How do you accurate portray glup shittos in your game?

Correct.
>>
>>97252585
If you have a question it should be related to some experience you've had or expect to encounter. I've started threads for general traveller discussion by opening them with summaries of what went down in my last session and asking for advice on potential future directions. I've started threads about magic systems with examples of what I have, what I thought would make it mechanically interesting for the players, and an invitation for feedback. I've never started a one sentence question thread where reverse image searching the OP picture leads to the same faggoty reddit account as all the other turds clogging this toilet of a board.
>>
>>97252585
This is a hobbyist board, people want to engage in their creative hobbies and discuss their experiences with other people who engage in the same creative hobby.
Those inane questions come from a very identifiable place, of someone who didn't engage in the hobby, otherwise instead of "are your elves blonde?" the OP would talk about which elves he thinks are cooler and why they work like that on his setting, and how does that relate to everything and affects his games.

The original concern that many people had during the lull between Amaris and the first succ was that it was going to be a return to the age of war but now with even more wmds and a few more centuries worth of grudges. Blake believed that the capacity for interstellar civilization was going to be destroyed, which is why they established comstar as a religious organization. When your world is nuked and the most advanced technology you can access is a DC current fed directly from a broken generator, your corporate affiliation is not going to matter, but your religion will. Uniting all of comstar under one religious purpose gives them the best chance to pull together enough resources to still be interstellar when no one else is. Then Toyama and the later leaders decided that Blake helps those who help themselves, which ultimately led to the Jihad.
>>
>>97252381
See Blake wasn't wrong with the Religious preservation of Tech, the problem was he left the plan to the business cutthroat that was Toyama and Michelle Dupreas, "Intelligence" Agent and first Precentor of ROM.
Naturally this would lead to Toyama's cultish swing that would result in the Organizational Edict 3056 and Raymond Karpov attempts to have ComStar control ALL technology while pushing the Great Houses to destroy each other.
This forced tipping of the scales ironically is what ultimately led to ComStar's undoing, as staying actually neutral as Blake had established would have allowed them to grow their influence into the cracks formed by the warring Great Houses.

In May 2006, Dragon Magazine #343's Creature Catalog V introduced the Arcane Dragons to the world, whose gimmick was that they were the dedicated sorcerers family of the draconic race; physically feeble by comparison, but much more magical abilities. In particular, each breed of arcane dragon was associated with 2 of the 8 schools of magic - Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Evocation, Illusion, Necromancy and Transmutation - to the point that they gained every single Sorcerer spell of those two schools as part of their "spells known" pool.

Now, I actually have questions about how many spells an arcane dragon actually gets, but at the moment, I have two different queries. That Creature Catalog only gave us 2 Arcane Dragon species; the Hex Dragons (Enchantment/Necromancy) and the Tome Dragons (Conjuration/Divination). Thus...

1) How many possible 2-school combinations of magic are left when you take Enchantment/Necromancy and Conjuration/Divination out of the picture?

2) What are some interesting possible names for Arcane Dragons tied to specific combinations of magic? For example, does "Blight Dragon" make sense for a species specifically tied to Evocation and Necromancy, the most destruction-focused schools? What would you call a dragon tied to Divination and Necromancy? Or to Abjuration and Evocation?

1 is basic combinatorics. There's 8 options for the first school, and 7 options for the second. That gives 56 total pairs, but it's actually 28 unique pairs as Abjuration/Divination is the same as Divination/Abjuration. That gives 26 remaining after Enchantment/Necromancy and Conjuration/Divination are spoken for.

2 you're gonna have to just sit down with an excel spreadsheet and start coming up with words.

NTA, I like Blight Dragon, works nicely.

Here are some I made on the fly (pun not intended):
Equinox (Evocation/Abjuration)
Stygian (Divination/Necromancy)
Eclipse (Necromancy/Abjuration)
Empyrean (Evocation/Conjuration)
Phantasm (Illusion/Abjuration)
Scourge (Transmutation/Necromancy, and yes this is a Warcraft reference)

You should ALWAYS cheese every encounter. If you EVER end up in a situation that even remotely resembles a fair fight, just run away and wait until you can rig the situation to your favor.

Use your fucking brain. Even if it is highly improbable for you to lose a given fight, statistically speaking, you'll still eventually croak if you keep taking those bets. Don't leave it up to chance. It's easier than you might think, you just need to use your noggin. It's not a video game. You can do whatever the fuck you want.

Just the other night my party ran into a melee monster in a narrow ass room that they for some reason decided to ram their dicks into until someone died. When I suggested that we retreat for a bit and lure it into the room with the big ass statues so we can all just climb them and shoot it to death, they looked at me like I just escaped from the looney bin. They all died of course.

I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing. So the PCs are gonna be rubbing elbows with a lot of noble families as they make their way into high society. I’m just asking for NPCs and ideas.
Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.

Merchant that can rent out fine furniture and garments for cheap. Handy for down on their luck nobles to keep up the appearance or to impress an important guest.
Rumors about their clientele make for fine gossip and while their services helped more than a few people to save their face, secure a deal, or cheat their way into high society they have also been proven to be a downward spirale for others.

>>97251270
>If you're aiming for maximum believability, there's almost no way that humans would accept a different species ruling them. They struggle enough with humans of different nationalities ruling them (William of Normandy had to practically burn down England before they stopped revolting at the idea of a Norman King).

I will clarify that the half-elven (as in humans with significant elven ancestry) and halfling nobles are mostly ruling over other half-elves/halflings, or areas that have integrated for centuries at this point.

Thanks for the advice, at its core I think I just need more experience with the system to be a bit more fair to myself with the TNs. Like, TN 12 for a skill check inherently feels low to me but that's supposed to be a very difficult task, even for a pro. Like a fucking idiot I'm treating these TNs like they're d20 and it's actually 2d6, and I'm naturally inclined to go high because I still feel kind of like I'm "getting away" with something because it's solo. I'll probably get over it once I get a few more games in; thanks for the sanity check.

On a totally different note, how do you all handle extended social scenes? I've discovered I need to lean off the oracle a bit and that I probably don't need to consult it for every little thing, but I do still feel kind of trapped in a lot of talky scenes in my game so far. It's been a lot of "does this new NPC that the oracle introduced know anything about plot hook X? No, but... they want to talk about plot hook y" and I feel like it's burning me out a bit. Just interested in hearing some different perspectives on talkier scenes/games.

So a 2.78% chance to succeed with no bonuses

>extended talking
The mythic article on that is great imo it’s in mythic magazine volume 58
It really is just a lot of practice though. It will feel awkward until you do more of it
>>
>>97250013
Exactly, I felt like a massive idiot when I realized I was basically dooming my PCs except on boxcars since the system I'm using is stingy by nature with any sort of bonuses (even a +3 at first level would be very fortunate and would require a PC's best trained skill, their best attribute, and possibly some extra situational bonus). The real problem has been the natural urge to feel like I'm going to easy on the PCs since I'm technically controlling them too, but I'll get over it.

I'll give that article a read. I'm not sure if I want to incorporate actual mechanics or oracles, but I am angling to find what works for me in terms of balancing "the NPC says X" and actual conversation. Right now I'm very much abstracting it, and it feels a bit lazy.

Free League's new starter set for The One Ring is also pretty good value for money. Standees, map of Middle-Earth, condensed rulebook, a fine set of dice and an example adventure, and I paid 26 eurobucks for it. The full rulebook (not included) is still required for Strider mode, mind you, so I'm not sure if I would recommend this only for solo play.

Why did GW make them chicken nuggets instead of just putting the crotch at the knee like real life exoskeletons?

Anyone do disabled people on their settings?
Any tips on avoiding the "turning the disability into advantage" trope?
Like, even on pic rel.
Guts having no left arm is actually an advantage because his prosthetic arm is cannon and have no issue on using a sword.

Yeah I have a bunch of cripples (not) running around being crippled and shit and their lives all suck and they're retarded too

it's things like these that really make a world feel ALIVE, you know?

In the history of the world, there have been 7 archmages. Each of them supreme existences that stood above everyone in their era.

Who were they?

Solomon
Merlin
Abe no Seimei
Adi Shankaracharya
Hermes Trismegistus
Paracelsus/Agrippa/Dee/Kelley, take your pick of which one
Crowley or Austin Osman Spare, maybe Blavatsky if you really want to include a woman although personally I think the divine feminine deserves its own archetype (like a "supreme crone" or something).

Before you decide to do disabled people in a setting, you need to first ask yourself if that even makes fucking sense in the first place.

If magic or technology is progressed enough that people can heal or make up for any disabilities, don't. It makes no sense for people to be disabled in a setting where magic can heal grievous wounds or animated skeletons are running around or people are running around with grafted or robot limbs unless that magic/tech is cutting edge experimental and/or expensive as fuck (and if it is expensive as fuck there needs to be an in universe reason for that).

If your setting has that sort of shit that would commonly mitigate disability, then if anything you should be leaning into that shit for worldbuilding purposes. Don't try to shove disability into a world it doesn't belong.

Or stick to shit like dyslexia.

If your world is relatively mundane, then I guess it's fine to do disability, but historically treatment of the disabled varied wildly from execution, to abandonment, to exploitation, to care. Depending on time and place, the disabled were just as likely to be found on a sledge with their family as dead in the street.
