Daily reminder that Hiroko, despite the initially potentially annoying introduction as le quirky tuber, has actually the best potential to be the protagonist instead of Inori, if you just transplanted the brother/family plotline from Inori to her
>actual explicit reason for her outward change in interests
>her passion to be an animator and media, along with the multiple references to anime made in each time period, works much better for the overall story if she was the one travelling and taking inspiration from all her adventures with Kanan/Dan
>would also be better than just being relegated to someone waiting on Inori and co in the future
>her eventual investigative nature would work great as side quest do-er instead of giver
>despite her backstory being given by Inori on a fucking trainride was more characterization than Inori ever really got

I got thinking recently, and I feel like a big problem with games where the main appeal is the vibe/feel of the setting rather than unique mechanics/crunch isn't the idea of an artistically driven game in and of itself. The problem, IMO at least, is more that A: a lot these games aren't just narrative-before-mechanics, the mechanics are a complete afterthought, and B: they're all aping the exact same vibe. If we only had 1 or 2 games attempting to capture the "grimdark" vibe it wouldn't be so bad but it feels like everything is going for variations of the exact same aesthetic/narrative flavour. At least Turnip28 had some degree of whimsy in the actual fluff, but with Trench Crusade, Mork Borg and a billion other "the artstyle is Streaking Grime" settings I personally am feeling grimdark fatigue.
I dunno- I feel like an art/vibe driven game with an actually unique or at least underutilized vibe (purely as an example, aping the bright and colourful look of 2nd edition 40K and its contemporaries) and decent mechanics would be good.

>Make one.
I intend to; I have an idea for a game that's basically a love letter to Rogue Trader in all its glory with a major emphasis on /yourdudes/. I've got the basic setting written up, currently working on the core mechanics. One plan I have is for weapons to have unique and interesting mechanics but for most factions to be using the same basic weapons, with some additional weapon upgrades and a few bespoke weapons for each faction. Should keep it from being a book-keeping nightmare whilst still having some depth.
>>97220033

Style is easier to crank out than substance so once a thing gets popular enough the bandwagonsers and various grifts that want to make money easily swarm to it until its so wrung out and dry no one can derive any satisfaction from it anymore. Its fashion. This cycle isn't as complete as it used to be, basically via consumable immediacy and products-as-culture if a brand or style reaches enough critical mass there will always be enough dipshits who like it to continue buying. Grimdark is on its way out, there's probably going to be a resurgence of hopepunk or some other similarly retarded thing.
Don't worry about it too much. Make what you love, put it forward as best you can.

I'm not sure what the new demons are and what is just from Exalted in general. I really like the demon maggot that's burrowed through multiple layers of Malfeas though, that's pretty neat.
>>
Yeah this new captcha is weird.

So, I find it really tough to read Exalted material about demons and hell without a reference for what all these demons are and look like. They have incomprehensible names, and they’re quite bizarre creatures. I can’t intuit what they’re based on their name. The only ones I can keep straight are blood apes & neomah.

Ideally, every time a demon is mentioned, these PDFs would have a mouseover tooltip or hyperlink to a picture and summary of what this thing is.
>>
>>97220650
Even for the demons that have been around for awhile desu. The fuck does one of those deca things look like? I have no idea. God forbid I draw a blank on one too because finding the info to refresh myself is a pain.

I mean okay, normally it's a quick google but still. I think you made a very good point.
>>
>>97220650
>They have incomprehensible names, and they’re quite bizarre creatures
They names are mostly central-eastern European, or CEE-sounding, in nature.
Ligier and Florivet are French.
Adorjan, is a Adorian/Adrian.
Cecelyne, sounds like Cecile.
Javint is a version of Hyacinth.

How do they expect kids and new players to start with these prices?
>>
>>97218744
Competition missing. GW didn't even actually beat the other miniature companies. Mismanagement, corporate greed(HAH), and chasing the wrong audience killed off all the legitimate competition. Mantic is a joke but still going in their lane. Para Bellum would be great, except their prices are worse than GW, and their scale is fucking stupid. Corvus Belli sticks with their core audience, and was mired in old material which kept newer players away, while also actively working against the english speaking market until very recently. Atomic Mass is run by a garbage parent company, chasing after license money. Cmon committed sudoku. The other indies are just continuing quietly at their own pace. In order to force GW to price more competitively, they'd need to be able to produce at a comparable level. I really, really want Bamco to do this. It would be a phenomenal turn of events, but Gundam Assemble is still a little ways off, and not quite direct competition as of yet.

Meanwhile, GW has just been generating brand recognition with other media, mostly games. They run the market, means they set the prices at whatever they want, until it breaks the consumer, and then they'll dial it back a half step. Combine that all with the world state, and they can blame all the various factors to deflect from the fact that they've been on this trajectory for years. Just buy secondhand or recasts. They still produce great miniatures, but their prices are horrific, and anyone defending the prices is suspect.
>>
>>97219658
Maybe those kids should think twice about deciding to be poor? Why didn't they just get more money instead of complaining to this struggling little company who can barely afford to run the shittiest out of date injection molding machines in the industry? Ungrateful little cretins.
>>
Thats why printer go brrr. Its wild to me that pay piggies still lap this slop up with open wallets.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

I ran The Moon of Thorns, an adventure from 1shotadventures thst takes place in Tredroy, which is in the Banestorm setting. Tredroy waa very cool, I liked it a lot. Good adventure, too. >a fireball doesn't need to be "setting someone on fire"
It literally sets things on fire you moron.
And you’re missing the point. Whether or not you think they’ll be able to walk it off, setting off an explosive next to someone you just swore to protect from any harm is not consistent behavior. You’re bending over backwards at this point, insisting both that combat has to be abstracted and also that characters have an intuitive sense of hit points and how they’re recovered that justifies gamist actions. And you keep presenting things in the context of an action movie or two tough guys roughhousing, ignoring the original context of the action under discussion. Nobody is claiming that the fireball would be lethal, just that the only way to arrive at the conclusion you’re presenting is to work your way there through the game rules, rather than assessing the situation from the character’s perspective. Which is exactly what you’re doing.

These look great. Still need to get the Cultist 3 box though. I don't think I'd have much use for them though, you can combine the cultist and knight box fine. Although they do look a lot more fantasy.

Speaking of North Star, I've got my 5 Leagues minis built now. At least for the 3 enemy factions and my warband. I'll need some NPCs and neutrals.

Post-Apocalyptic Fantasy?
>A world rocked by cataclysm
>landscapes filled with chaos and wonder
>mage storms
>An enduring mystery; what happened, and what happened in the intervening centuries?
>An atmosphere of hope and renewal, as heroes rise, and mysteries are investigated.
>Darkness and evil await in corners and ruins, like pools of dank water waiting for the sun
>the brink of a New Age
Interesting setting? What elements would you include?
I'm just gonna throw zombies at them.

Yes, /tg/ was always about product placement, autists too weird for even reddit showing off poorly painted tyranids, and fetish CYOAs. Truly a great board.

Post collapse of the great aka Roman empire resurgence and fighting against the darkness while picking through the ruins of what once was has been a central part of european mythopoetics since the dark ages.
This has been basic kit dungeons and dragons the entire time. Yes its an interesting setting basis.
It gives you a framework for exploration, treasure, limited centralized power so player characters can still move around, varieties of foes and cultures as the various gaps fill in and conflict. Its great.

I always like having the moon be damaged and falling apart.
Poorly understood rituals tied into ancient empire machinery carried on by monks. Warlords trying to gather artifacts of power. Big monsters wandering around.
>zombies
Undead forms as part of the magical fallout with occasional semblance of memory from pre collapse can be fun ways to have clues, adventure hooks and otherwise a bit of world building in game.
