>>97222554You can apply that same logic to Combat Awareness being a bad ability because it's exclusively a combat power. Solos aren't bad because they're only good at combat and nothing stops a solo from taking skills that aren't combat skills, buying equipment that's not combat equipment and doing things that aren't combat. It's players that pidgeonhole their characters into not doing anything their sheets don't tell them they can explicitly do.
Hi, my group wants me to run a game set in this system, but they don't want to just play as the usual cyberpunk downtrodden gang characters. So I'm curious as to how balanced the game is for something like a party where everyone is an average corpo soldier being sent out to put out fire in other branches or to do combat run against other corps.I'm still reading up on the system and lore for this game, but it seems like there's a massive divide between street level gears and actual corpo grade tech.
>>97227021Not really. Most of it boils down to cost and availability. Your average dyed in the wool corpo grunt isn't going to have a magical assault rifle that's better than all other assault rifles; but the one the corporation issues him is more likely to be an EQ one with attachments, possibly already bolted on.Of course it's not really HIS rifle.
So Interface Volume 5 is supposed to come out this year still, isn't it? Where is it?

If you want any further canon, check places like canonfire as other Anons said, the lore is mainly community made.Or you could just make shit up as you go along at your table. It's meant to be a worldbuilding framework. Worldbuilding on training wheels if you will, Gary didn't even want to publish it as a setting, he wanted people to make up their own. Reposting this because these threads need talk about games. Something I can think of that you could justify tracking torches (how many you have and how long they last) would be something like what you see in Alone in the Dark: Illumination https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLogNWdLsq4 [Embed] The game itself is clearly crap but the idea of foes being weaken by light stuck with me since hearing about his game. I would make the area windy or have a torrent downpour so the torches last only for a very short time and because they have so few torches the player would have to pick how and when they fight. This would only be in one or two area as gimmick stuff only really works if done very rarely.>>97226981Never said you were a troll, dong poker. I see you as being retarded.

> you're in no way limited by the subject of study like you are in 3e,Your "subject of study" in 2e is just your background in general. The whole "obscurity of knowledge" is literally a narrative thing that's totally dependent on who your character is. I think we both know you're not rolling lore in 2e for things you couldn't know. I mean, assuming you're not using any charms. If the ST in 2e thinks knowing something would be extremely hard or rare he just ups the DC. Which is exactly what 3e suggests you do.A good example of this is no amount of lore lets you roll on what's currently going on in Nexus if your character has no way of knowing what's currently going on in Nexus. There are plenty of other examples I imagine we can think of. >Moving goalposts, not disagreeing on that, just noting it was never the point of contentionSeeing as how charms can let you know things things and you need lore for them and they can be used for damn near anything that your ST doesn't say no to, well. It felt like you were. I mean this is exactly how it works in 2e as well. This is hard to talk about without actual in game examples. In 2e you have a guy who has lore 5 and studied in the underworld but was also fascinated with Nexus. Is he going to be able to roll lore on the current events of the blessed islands? Even if your ST allows it I imagine they're going to be buffing the DC because what are the chances you actually know anything about it. Charms could mix this up but still. In 3e it'd be the same but you'd maybe have to RP talking to someone from the Blessed Islands to give you a better IC reason to roll a difficult lore check.
>>97227004Lore is just one stat, unlike craft in 2e and 3e.

>>97227013>If the ST in 2e thinks knowing something would be extremely hard or rare he just ups the DC. Which is exactly what 3e suggests you do.No, 3e suggests you set difficulty by plot relevance, giving the character a chance to show off (with a difficulty higher than plot relevant info) or if you want the character to be wrong for plot reasons. 1e and 2e explicitly say it should be based on obscurity of information, no other qualifiers >Seeing as how charms can let you know things things and you need lore for them and they can be used for damn near anything that your ST doesn't say no to, well. It felt like you were. Given I haven't even remotely mentioned charms and you keep bringing them up, you've been putting words in my mouth at best>In 2e you have a guy who has lore 5 and studied in the underworld but was also fascinated with Nexus. Is he going to be able to roll lore on the current events of the blessed islands? Potentially, yes, given Lore 3 is "Knows details and customs of a land 1000s of miles away" and things like Infallible Messengers are a thing, though I'd argue current events specifically might be covered under Bureaucracy or Socialize depending on what exactly it is you're asking about>In 3e it'd be the same but you'd maybe have to RP talking to someone from the Blessed Islands to give you a better IC reason to roll a difficult lore check.Again, no, it doesn't actually specify anything along those lines in 3e>>97227040Comment too long. Why is it called Age of Sigmar anyway? It'd be like calling the Victorian Age the Hawaiian Age or something. Sigmar is the weakest god in the setting and his faction is almost entirely irrelevant. If anything it's the Age of Nagash ft. Stormcasts with special guest appearances by Elves and Chaos. Sigmar barely even features in anything at all aside from short stories with black stormcast protags of ambiguous gender talking about how pathetic he is and how much they hate working for him.

Hey /tg/ I'm playtesting an initiative system that's been tried before in other systems and is detailed nicely on "Tabletop Curiosity Cabinet"The system uses Meyer (and Kieth Farrell's modern adaptation) of "Vor, Nach, Gleich, Indes" as steps in a fight.Basically, the player with the initiative chooses an action ("Vor"). The enemy chooses a reponse ("Nach"). The dice are rolled to determine an outcome ("Gleich") and the movement into the next state ("Indes").Practically it looks like: Player A chooses a bind. Player B chooses to parry. Both players resolve a dice roll. The resolution will determine who has initiative for the next system.Very fencing-like, and makes initiative more of a "push-pull" based on success rather than a "you-go, I-go" traditional style.I believe systems like TRoS and their derivatives (like Song of Swords) use a similar sort of initiative style. My questions for the thread:1. While this system works pretty well for individual combats, it struggles when there are multiple combatants. It also falls into the same trap of "you go, I go" which is; in a real fight, you're probably waiting for an opening (e.g. an enemy attacking an ally) to take advantage of in order to strike. I wonder if anyone has creative solutions to this problem?2. Are there initiative systems that you find work well? Anyone forego initiative entirely in favor of fully narrative initiative (e.g. Daggerheart)?
>>97221759I truly am. I suppose it mimics what occasionally happens in fencing. Making decisions anticipating an outcome rather than brute force reaction.
>>97197145>2. Are there initiative systems that you find work well?7th Sea 1st edition.Round is divided into 10 phases. You roll a number of d10 equal to your Panache (2-6) and whatever you rolled shows in which phases you act. You can have more than one action per phase. Whenever you expend an action a die with that number rolled is removed from your initiative pool. If multiple characters have actions in the same phase the first to act would be the one with higher sum of initiative dice still on the table. For example Character rolls 2, 3, 8 (Panache 3) while a Pirate rolls 3,9 (Panache 2). Character expends action in phase 2 to throw a bunch of Brutes overboard the ship. In phase 3 both Character and Henchmen have an action, but since Character expended his phase 2 die his initiative total is 11 instead of 13 and thus Henchmen would act first. It may seem convoluted at first, but after you get accustomed to it its fucking perfect for swashbuckling adventures that 7th Sea is made for.
>>97224032No this genuinely seems so fun. Does this result in simultaneous actions?
>>97223429>“Occasionally”Dice rolls that are equal or within 1 number of each result in a double where both attacks get through
>>97225574Technically - no, You can play it like this, but there are ways of resolving who acts first within a phase. Though you also can spend 2 initiative dice to do interrupts.

Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome!
