Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

"The Emperor" was a persona that didn't exist before Old Night and the Age of Strife.

Prior to those, the guy who'd eventually make the persona was probably fucking around the galaxy on Reacher-esque adventures. Literally all we vaguely know, is he kept under the radar, and only occasionally popped onto the radar to do some convenient act of help, then leave.

Hot take, Excellency should just be a passive upgrade itself. You should only spend motes on a cool things.
>>
>>97227355
>Page number 106 mentions it not letting them command knowledge they couldn't know, its under abilities.
Ah, fair, so it does

>I've never really thought of "You can roll lore to know things you couldn't possibly know"
I'll also point out you're also the one who brought that situation up, and it in no way is a counterargument for "Lore in 1e and 2e represent general knowledge while in 3e it's a specific subject"

>Heck even if that's true you still need to roll and I don't think ten dice is going to regularly hit a legendary difficulty with a TN of 7+ with any real regularity so... I mean, without charms.
Correct, and I've never disagreed on that

>"I know a fuck ton of things."
And base Lore in 1e and 2e was that case, while in 3e base Lore is subject specific, that is what I've been arguing, you keep dragging in other stuff not related to that point and try to act like it's a gotcha
I have never mentioned charms, I have been 100% talking about base Lore, and how it differs in 3e from 1e or 2e, stop trying to move the goal posts into something else, you still have not disputed any of my original points
>>
>>97227358
What would determine the bonus an Excellency gives you in that case? Essence and the number of Charms you have in that Ability?
>>
>>97227409
Primarily your type of exalted, it would just be a part of your splat. Like, for example, Solars just get 3 dice per dot of anything. Their dots are just worth more.
>>
>>97227511
Expanding on this, this would really support the whole "young solars drop into the world as the scrappy underdogs who can change things.". Like, obviously this is just a spitball number and there are a bunch of other effects to really consider, but I think doing things like this would better illustrate power level differences in an immediate way and tell players that they can do things right now.

Before making my build, I skim through the images of other builds.

I also check how long their builds are. If they are too long, I may postpone making a build or never make one at all (I like CYOAs where you have to pick only a small number of options, even if there are many possible options available like the Fulcrum companions).

More rarely, if I became curious about a specific choice in the CYOA, I may check other builds mid-buildmaking for how common which option was (for example, which Dark Isekai Overlord PC classes were the most popular).

I don't often read the full builds of other posters, and never before making my own build.

Good insight!
Personally, I like using the mm2 gaze attack table because it makes the ability feel *feel* more deadly, while actually making it slightly easier, and rewarding/punishing shielding and surprise, respectively.

Tangentially, do you prefer active attack gaze, or 'always on'? I think always-on is better with the table, and active attack is better without it.

But then, do you make an active gaze attack against *everyone*, or one target, or a cone, etc?
>>
Im thinking about making the roll for a WM happen each turn rather than every other turn, but rather than a guaranteed WM per se, it will be a roll on a table, with a possible monster.
tentatively:
1-2 Monster
3-4 Sign of monster
5 Haphazard (brick falls on head, etc)
6 Misleading sign of monster

Not looking to reinvent the wheel, just shaking up my play a bit.
>>
>>97226728
No thread question? I guess I will ask a question then.
>How do you run Fish People in your games?
Fish people are one of my favorite enemy types in general. Most of the time I have them either on a coast or they will climb up and attack boats that are sailing near their lairs. I think soon I will recreate a Shadow over Innsmouth for my players.

Tzeentch and Slaanesh both own the individualist axis of Chaos, not one unit could ever encapsulate them. Plus, it's the Rubricae sorcerer that's the important Tzeentchian unit.
>>
>>97222013
The fact they're ensorceled soulbound suits of armor which are animated by magic alone, and exist only as pawns in the game of their masters. They mirror the truth of the lesser servants of Tzeentch and are thus cursed for their weakness to be incapable of percieving the strings which tug them ever onward.
>>
>>97222013
>which part of rubric marines scream Tzeentch?
I'm really confused by this take. They're bright blue and gold, magic powered automata, shoot magic bullets, and each squad has to be led by a sorcerer to function. What isn't tzeentchian about them?

As I'm sure you're aware, anyone playing wargames are going to insist on absolutely autistic specificity when it comes to rule descriptions. There can be no room for misinterpreting the rules.

In general, if there are different circumstances that can apply the same condition, split these up into different sentences.

So, to start, there's no such thing as "reasonably be said to be to be completely inside the area terrain". You must absolutely define what "completely inside the area terrain" means.

Rather than saying "you may always ignore the physical terrain features". Just define "cover from area terrain" as a "model within the footprint of the area terrain" (however you want to define "completely within" is up to you).

The "sometimes a model's pose or base (results in) parts stick(ing) out. In this circumstance treat the model as though it were fully inside the area terrain" could be re-worded this way. Even so... you need to clarify what you mean by "fully within the terrain". Imagine your game being adjudicated at a tournament run and played by filthy autistic Yu-Gi-Oh players.

When firing at targets behind (but not inside) the area terrain, does *any* part of the model count? So if I am able to hide a nubbin of my model behind area terrain, does it get the benefit of cover if the target model cannot be completely seen by the shooting model?

I'd rework the models shooting "through' section to read something like: "Models within area terrain may shoot out of area terrain as long as the line of sight drawn to the target passes through less than 6" of area terrain. Line of sight cannot be drawn through more than 6" of area terrain. Line of sight cannot be drawn through multiple footprints of area terrain if it includes more than 6" of area terrain."

>>
>>97226946
Lastly, I'm a little confused by LOS can't be drawn through more than 6" of area terrain. So if the unit being targeted *behind* the area terrain is sitting behind a piece of area terrain with a footprint greater than 6", they cannot be targeted? This might get confusing, especially if the footprint has different widths.

For instance, in the picture, are you okay to shoot so long as ANY part of the target is not protected by 6" of area terrain depth? What if the distance measured to the target model to pass through <6" area terrain is outside of range, however, the closer distance (through >6" area terrain) is within range?

You have to prepare yourself for utterly autistic navel gazing.
>>
>>97227068
>anyone playing wargames are going to insist on absolutely autistic specificity when it comes to rule descriptions
This cannot be understated. "Autism" isn't even a strong enough word to describe it, "Literal Lawyer from Hell" isn't enough to describe it, I would sooner trust a fucking gypsy to return a £10 note the next day than to trust a wargamer to follow the intention of a clearly-written rule.

These are people who never had any creativity in the first place. They were always doomed to be hylics, with nothing but the vague imitation of humanity driving them to show an interest in hobbies and media, just without any of the actual intellect required to understand that if you automate out all the creativity, there is no fucking point to do it in the first place. It's a sad, lonely existence and we should all take a moment to tell them to go fuck themselves and get the fuck out of our communities.

All those games you listed aren't even RPGs. The hell are you even ranting about now?
>A story isn't necessary to make decisions for a character who isn't oneself, so a story never needs to go beyond what's directly associated with resolving the game's challenges through the abilities of the character as chosen by the player who isn't that character.
Then the story is optional? Alright, sure. Then what's wrong with having a story? And furthermore, what's wrong with discussing them? Your entire point is:
>Storytelling isn't necessary.
Yet go:
>We shouldn't talk about storytelling.
Christ anon, you even defended your precious general by going
>half of it is worldbuilding discussion
If you really believed in this, you'd be playing Monopoly or arguing about Life. You're the most disingenuous poster I've seen in awhile.
>But you'll never understand this, because you need to have your off-topic street shitting.
Alright, let's head back to the 40k general where we'll see this oaf bitch at people disliking his terrible paints.

>Roleplaying is any decision of character or behavior for someone who isn't oneself.
>Moving a figure across a map is roleplay
this is some "Zelda is an RPG" tier shit

>All those games you listed aren't even RPGs.
They're still games.
The reply chain is about games; more specifically, the fact that worldbuilding and story fags never talk about them when they clog the catalog with their off-topic shit.

>what's wrong with having a story
Nothing, but you story and worldbuilding fags never talk about games.

>what's wrong with discussing them
In being largely unnecessary to games, their discussion rarely has anything to do with any games anyone has actually played.
On a similar note, worldbuilding is rarely applied to any actual games discussion too.
There are plenty of places on this board and off it where you can masturbate over your worldbuilding ideas and stories, and they would be more welcoming to you, given that you never talk about playing any games.

I'm not telling you to hold in your shit, I'm saying you should use a toilet instead of the sidewalk.

>And it's really hilarious you keep citing 40k generals, when those insufferable retards can't stay in their dedicated threads just as bad as you storyfags.
You sure got defensive about it here:

Man, someone too retarded for even 40k fans. Christ.

I think that D&D 2e/3.X/5e, Pathfinder, and Draw Steel's cosmologies all have major issues with scale and in-game practicality. Setting authors tend to get weird about scale whenever extra worlds are involved, and these are no exception.

These games' settings want to fulfill multiple conflicting desires:
• #1: One or more "flagship" fantasy worlds: the Realms/Greyhawk/Dragonlance trio in 2e, mostly just the Realms in 5e, Golarion in Pathfinder, Orden in Draw Steel.
• #2: A vast universe full of so many other worlds, so that GMs can feel cool about their own homebrew worlds somehow sharing the same universe.
• #3: Otherworldly planes full of celestials, demons, devils, fairies, and the like.
• #4: These planes are so vast that they influence many worlds simultaneously! We have heard since 2e about how the Blood War has spilled into and ruined many worlds. Pathfinder's Hell has "countless malebranche," each specifically tasked with conquering a whole world for Hell.
• #5: The adventures that take place on a "flagship" fantasy world are of super-great import. Their stakes and consequences ripple throughout even otherworldly planes.
• #6: The planes and their cities and hierarchies should be approachable in-game and understandable, not totally mind-boggling.

(Continued.)
>>
These lead to some weird contrivances, such as:
• Virtually everything important in the cosmos centers around the "flagship" worlds, like Earth in Marvel or DC. In 5e, the Abyss and the Nine Hells suffer upheavals in leadership based on events in the Sword Coast. In Draw Steel's Crack the Sun mega-adventure, all of the cosmos lives or dies based on an adventure that unfolds starting in Orden.
• Non-flagship worlds are immaterial in the grand scheme of things.
• Populations are odd. In 3.5, Sigil, the city at the center of the cosmos, has a population of 250,000. In Pathfinder, Dis, 1/9th of Hell, has a population of 9.5 million, only 5.7 million of which are devils. (Pathfinder's Hell is supposed to be threatening "countless" worlds.) In Draw Steel, Matt Colville says that Orden's largest city has a population of ~1.5 million ("The vast majority of Capital’s citizens live a life basically the same as your average Londoner in Shakespeare’s time"), and this is supposedly the largest city in all the cosmos... even though other worlds have outright space opera levels of technology.

I do not know. It makes the stakes of adventures feel so bizarre, artificial, and inauthentic whenever they get raised to a cosmic level.

I am a much greater fan of, for example, Keith Baker's approach to cosmology in Eberron. (Note that I say Keith Baker's approach, not WotC's. The two are very different.) That is, Eberron is a self-contained world. Its cosmology is specifically tailored to and calibrated for that world, rather than saying, "These planes touch and influence all worlds!" The mortal world is the crux and fulcrum of the cosmos because it simply is, and there are no other worlds around to get sidelined.

What do you think?

>What is this?
/TG/ DEVELOPED A GAME
IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

3 versions of the rules exist, 2 of which have been playtested. The main one is 2e, to be found :

I was checking if there were some units that would fit a neo mughal book, but other than the rajput sepoy, I think there are none.
>>
>>97221542
For what it's worth, I don't personally believe that every mentioned faction needs to be a full book faction. Some, like Olms, Neo-Mughals, and Ethiopia, can just be microfactions with only a handful of units.
>>
>>97221653
I agree, though I imagine the neo-mughal are too relevant for the lore to not have a book. Even then, I imagine a lot of their units could be re-skins or derivates from the lemurian book.

Not been able to post much due to Holiday craziness, next week should be a bit lighter. I have an idea for a Mu Revenant conversion by painting watered-down liquid greenstuff onto a Roman's face and then smudging in any features needed but it might not come out right. Only one way to find out really.
