Except it is. And beside, as much as the Imperium is stuck on a technological stasis, it's rabid religiosity ironically gives legit holy weaponry against Chaos and Bloated Bureacracy is just simply a result of having a large government with fiefdoms composed of their own semi-independant government that vary from planet to planet.

Oh don't get me wrong, humour in 40k is a good thing, but you get memes from years ago that through chinese whispers end up having people think it is real fluff, e.g. the joke story of the guardsmen saying bang to kill Orks.

>NYOOOOOO DRAZHAR CANT SOLO 3 CUSTODES THEYRE SUPPOSED TO LITERALLY NEVER LOSE EVER!!! Hes the strongest elite warrior in Commorragh, a city full of multi-thousand year old biologically agile and precise beings who let go of their psychic abilities to be even more insane phisically, and is suspected to be a former Phoenix Lor- whats even that? I dont care, custodes never lose!!!

Its so cringe. NO one can even beat regular SM chapter masters, let alone someone beating primarchs besides other primarchs, even if theres way more people/advantageous situation on the other side.

They act like space marines are unkillable by anyone but the main baddy, chapter masters should be unkillable period, custodes are unkillable, and a primarch can never even lose/be routed by someone, even if theyre a faction leader.

Commander shadowsun for instance, the literal full military commander of all the Tau military killed ONE chapter master and that was already a fucking tantrum saying its impossible, and i say this while I LIKE the raven guard.

Newsflash dipshit: if every imperium dude was this poweful they wouldve fucking won taking over the galaxy by now.

Rolling dice for character creation is fine as long as you have a system that actually supports it, rather than designers including it as a sacred cow without considering what the range of stats/characters that will result.

Netrunner Edition

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

A separate TQ related to this: how many people in RED games are actually playing games in the Time of the Red? As far as I can tell most games I've seen don't actually take place in the time period, whether due to concerns about the general tone of the setting or a preference for the cyberpunk world they saw in 2077 and Edgerunners.
>>
have any of you played an exotic/ used them in your games? Asking cause I looked at the specs of the LagoForm® sculpt and feel like a Shotgun Totting Bunny girl Wannabe Solo would be a fun encounter/fight to throw at my players or for a Newbie-Runner to saddle the crew with running cause she's a corpo playing runner and her parents hired them to basically baby sit/ dissuade her from trying to be a merc.

And to be clear, they'd be an anime style rabbit person and not a full furry exotic. But thinking about it made me curious how much use Exotics actually get in gameplay
>>
>>96520072
The campaign I'm waiting on is set in 2020, but I actually do find RED's time period pretty interesting. The beginnings of some of 2077s gangs and the groundwork for the various conspiracies that have been laid are ripe pickings for storytelling. I'd be interested in seeing the years leading up to the Unification War too, when Rosalind Meyers was probably laying the groundwork and setting up research projects at Militech before moving into the politico field to deploy her new toys officially.

Great pet peeve. A bear skin is exactly the right shape and size to conform exactly to the contour of a human body. All animal skins are exactly the right shape. Humans never have to cut and sew a hide to make it fit and actually cover them like for sleeves or covering front of torso and back of torso at the same time.
Even better, a single layer of hide offers near infinite protection already. It's not as if the thickest bear hide is only about 5 mm most and is going to need to be layered to provide protection. No one ever heard a spear or knife or god forbid a wooden stake penetrating a bear's skin and killing it. Not even a venomous snake's fangs can get through bear hide living or dead. Neither is it a fact that thicker layers if composited to more closely approximate a single layer provide more protection than an equal thickness of non-bonded layers a la why breaking ten 1 cm thick wooden boards with a single kick is entirely the same as breaking one 10 cm thick board ie, a board as thick as a fence post and nearly as thick as a pile for a modern house.
If you want hide armour as just a bear hide, that's cool anon, but the reason it's shown as patchwork is because that's what it has to be to be thick enough to afford protection and the right shape to not leave almost everything exposed. Magical monsters might only take a single layer but they still need to conform to the human body. Even if you're using human hide for armour you'd still have to use layers and tailor each layer to fit unless you've specifically grown your set of humans to the right slightly different size like some sort of nesting dolls.

looks like a cunt

I have been playing and running Draw Steel's playtest since August of last year, and have since moved on to the release version. I recently ran a brief level 5 game. This is my play report: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Be1a7GJ1gjK7SqYQWZmxA2Tx_nIF6vRcTNqOKuUUQ3g/edit

The full version is above, but to summarize:

• I had four players. One had already played the system a fair bit, and had experience with grid-based tactical games like D&D 4e and ICON. The other three were new, but also had experience with tactical games.

• I set this in the timescape's space-fantasy upper worlds, in a UNISOL-aligned manifold. The story began with a counterattack on the fleet of Lord Syuul, and culminated in delving into the minds of two Space Gods to save a planetary system.

• I kept basic numerical statistics transparent, but enemy traits and abilities opaque.

• Negotiations were received poorly by the players. They felt too rote (uncover, appeal, uncover, appeal, repeat), and it quickly became evident that some PCs should just step back and let the characters with relevant perma-edges (e.g. High Elf Glamor) handle everything.

• Montages had a somewhat better reception, but the players still were not too warm on them. They just do not like 4e-style skill challenges.

• Combat was the most well-received facet of the system. The consensus seemed to be "decent, would definitely play again, but nothing special compared to other grid-based tactical games we have already played."

>most players don't even really think about the party

I refuse to believe that there is even a possibility that you are serious, unless your hundreds of players across every popular system have all been autists. Was 4e, a system that cares about party interactions and is an inspiration for Draw Steel, count among those "popular" in the late 90s-early 00s?

This line of discussion started with how players coming from MMOs would respond to the system. Players who buy into a fantasy that cares about the party. Who are coming into a system that wants you to care very much about what the rest of the party's strengths are.

I've been emphasizing the "defender" aspect of the role because I've been drunk, but perhaps I was wrong to do so. I'll appeal to a broader umbrella: many, and I would say this is probably more true of MMO players than traditional TTRPG players, view the "tank" as a martial "control" character. Directing where the enemy attacks or where the party should attack. It isn't strictly defensive; I've made a mistake harping on that point a bit.

>Tacticians are offensive support and offensive enablers first and foremost.
I think Edna is a stupid faggot, but maybe "enabler" is a closer bridge in terminology between the two archetypes we are imagining when we say "tank." Even defensive abilities are in service of enabling the more offensively-oriented party members to do their thing.
>>
>>96519912
>Was 4e, a system that cares about party interactions and is an inspiration for Draw Steel, count among those "popular" in the late 90s-early 00s?
Do you wanna try saying this again? Because either you fumbled this sentence so fucking bad the meaning was lost, or you're a moron who doesn't even know when 4e was released and is too stupid to look it up.

>This line of discussion started with how players coming from MMOs would respond to the system.
No it didn't. The post that originally started this chain was >>96504234 and it says nothing about "players coming from MMOs" in it, it's not even exclusively about 4e but just pathfinder and DND at large.

And it seems my impression that you have limited experience remains true. Anon, most players do not come to the table thinking about the party. They did not do this in the 3.5e days. They do not do this outside of DnD. And they definitely didn't do this with 4e despite 4e wanting a more balanced party (A common complaint at the time), as players are known to ignore what a system "wants" in favor of their own desires and impulses.
Even among my more experienced and considerate players, I can really think of only two people out of around twenty who consider "the party" when they start working on a character. The rest only check to see if they're stepping on any toes so three people don't come to the table playing the same concept, they don't care if the party is balanced or not.

>and I would say this is probably more true of MMO players than traditional TTRPG players
I wouldn't say probably but absolutely because that's more or less how tanks actually function in MMOs (as far as I care to know anyways)
In tabletop, the term is not used the same way. A "Tank" is whoever has high HP and/or AC. As I said before, its why people still call 5e Barbarians "Tanks" despite the fact that they have zero battlefield control as core class features. The closest they get is Spirit Shield.

They're just about loyal. Maybe it's a new issue and some of his orders got many of his officers killed (and he was the only survivor, stemming from his Survivor's Duty), or maybe it's a coup attempt.

Every regiment will have some kind of friendly (or unfriendly) Regimental Rivalry. Give me a 1d100.
