>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, Judge Dredd, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void, Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

How is Conquest? Looking to buy into it for my shop, got a few starters coming to build/paint/play. The roll low seems a bit weird, but w/e.

might want to ask in /hwg/? but also, what information do you want to know? pretty sure foundry are pretty bog standard metal sculpts, nothing surprising.
>>
>>96536159
>what information do you want to know?
Material, which you covered, general level of quality on the sculpts because the advertising images are tiny and their scale in comparison to other mini ranges.
I hadn;t thought of asking /hwg/ though, I'll do that now, thanks anon.

I don’t follow this logic. Do you mean in 20 years you expect they’ll still have only 5e? What about 100 years from now? There will be a new edition eventually, it’s just a matter of when.

We had a thread earlier discussing how Delta Green would do in the universe of WoD and it made me curious; how would the Ordo Veritatis do if they were the ones transported and tasked with eliminating all Vampires? Assuming that they have all their government contacts and resources without needing to fight every other threat in the WoD, could they actually wipe out every vampire?

>>96523626
The recent pdf preview (which is pretty much exactly the same as the playtest, just with minor text changes, proper stats, and all the art) outright calls the Ordo Veritatis a worldwide conspiracy with access to effectively unlimited resources via its government connections. So the Ocean Game has 100% defined them in a specific form, though the other posts are correct that the way they're described means any level of play is permissible.
https://gamefound.com/en/projects/pelgrane-press/fear-itself-shattered-veil-edition/updates/10

Incidentally, the book ALSO hints that 'Mr. Verity' might be a benign Mystery Man or other similar entity rather than just some intermediary to relay orders to Ordo investigators. So that's a thing.
>>
>>96526502
This.
>>
>>96526300
There's the wider picture to look at. The main 2 reasons for the OV acting clandestinely is to prevent being compromised and because knowledge of the outer dark makes the outer dark stronger. Given the OV speciality is investigation (and dropping platoons of elite specialists on anything they consider a threat), it probably wouldn't take them long to figure out that WoD vampires are not Outer Dark Entities. The only real reason to not expose them at that point is if they are worried that knowledge of vampires might lead into people towards finding out about the OD. If they are working on WoD rules the vampires are up against an incredible competent and principled secret society with no qualms about keeping thing behind veils.

I give it 6 months before they have ripped the masquerade into shreds and they have manipulated events so there is a global crusade against vampires. All their weaknesses and infiltration into society exposed. Everyone above 7th gen would be fucked and I image most elders would rather sleep it out and hope that things have calmed down in 500 years. The vampire mindset is just not up for a war on that scale.
>>
>>96535990
Yeah, the only thing really keeping the OV in check is the fact that any awareness of magic or the Outer Dark damages the Membrane and enables major ODE incursions. And apart from risking the collapse of reality, the OV is intimately aware that the stronger ODEs are so far beyond humanity that it's mostly a mercy they don't care about our universe for the most part (they're basically unaware of the Mystery Men's omnipotence due to lacking Ocean Game knowledge). And whilst the Antes and low gen elders are on similar scales of invincibility, the majority would just go back to sleep as you said.

The only thing the OV would ever have to be worried about in nuking the masquerade is a potential response from the Technocracy, and even the Technocrats would be hard pressed to remove them for exactly the same reasons the Technocracy can't just get rid of Pentex.
>>
>>96536212
I'm pretty sure Technocracy would be easier to deal with than vampires. Vampire problems are due to their nature as supernatural predators. Technocracy problems are due to their leadership not being able to own up to the whole Consensus fuck up that was way less important than they thought and doesn't do shit against most supernaturals. It was a really big fuck up that resulted in some genocides that weren't really needed and didn't make the situation much better.

So you have certain internal levers that can be pressed to turn Technocracy from a problem into an ally.

With vampires while their reach is nowhere near as great you don't really have much in the way of options for a takeover since positions of power are based literally on personal power and age.

I'm pretty sure this posting style, of refusing to use >>, is intended to avoid janitors and/or get other people janny-smacked when they engage with you, since jannies are too lazy to do more than click the >>s. Thus, if you're talking about something on-topic and this guy successfully cuts the discussion to hide that, you get banned. Until this anon starts using quotes properly and regularly, do not respond to him further.
>>
>>96535940
You give people like him too much credit by assuming he actually thinks that far ahead.
What's actually happening is he's autistic, and autistic people have these weird beliefs about what it means to win an argument. To them winning an argument isn't about actually making the most sense and disproving the other guy, it's about who can make the other person angrier while appearing to be calm themselves. It's about making short, low effort posts while the other person is trying to write actual arguments to make it look like they care way more about the argument than you. And above all else, it's about getting the last response, because if the other guy stops replying that definitely proves that he can't beat you and you won the argument.
He's refusing to quote other people because he thinks it will make you angry and make himself look like he doesn't care enough about the argument to reply (even no we can all see he still is, just in a really petty way). He's repeating the same stock phrase over and over again because he wants you to get tired of wasting your time with him that you stop replying, which in his mind will mean he won. You can see this kind of behavior all over 4chan.
>>
>>96535940
It's also because they think that if they avoid a (You) tag, that somehow means that they've successfully gotten one over on you since you're not technically responding to them. It's a child's idea of winning an argument.
>>
>>96529280
Yet storyfags aren't satisfied with that level of narrative, and need to write additional plots ahead of time, or need someone else to do that, or else they bitch and complain about board games or video games.
Weird how that works.
>>
>>96536223
You'd shit your pants over "storyfags" if someone asked what the goal of the game was that night and the GM gave a "There's goblins in them thar hills to fight" single sentence response.

It's a fine enough start, but lacking the full Tech rules does make it difficult to get invested in the same way you would PF2e vanilla. Solarian and Envoy are also kind of lacking in purpose, but not necessarily bad classes in the way Pre-master Oracle or Inventor are. The others are actually pretty strong.
>>
>>96534692
My unfiltered dogshit opinion is that SF2e is a Fine(tm) content expansion pack for PF2e, but woefully incomplete as "it's own thing", especially since it basically requires you port PF2e shit forward and retool it to fit to make up for the fact they are explicitly avoiding making basic shit like "fighter/rogue in space". The playerbase overcomplicates the compatibility by insisting on shit like "make them time travelers" or "be strict shitheads about the upgrade stuff" when all you need to do is add or remove a couple traits and maybe keep tabs on access to things like flight. A Fighter in Starfinder is just what a SF1e melee Blitz Soldier used to be. A ton of the basic ranged weapons (like the rotating pistol) from SF2e are perfectly reasonable in PF2e, mechanically and fluff-wise.

It needs like, 2~ years worth of content and erratas to unfuck some of the weird parts of it, like Solarian and Envoy being kind of bad, or Operative being strong but bizarrely designed.

In PF1e, are there any ways to gain more swift actions or reactions? I'm playing a stupid class combination with a bunch of houserules, and I need more swift actions, or the ability to mill move actions into swifts or reactions. I'm talking about something like Combat Tenacity ( https://metzo.miraheze.org/wiki/Combat_Tenacity ).

Psionics are fine, but I believe I've looked through all of the psionic feats and didn't see an applicable one. Akasha is fine too. Maybe there are spells, powers, maneuvers, items or weapon enchantments, I'm open to anything at this point.
>>
>>96528337
Change the action system from 3 actions + 1 reaction to 4 actions that can be freely converted to reactions, anyone can store any number of actions for the rest of the round to use as reactions
As a knock on effect all martials should start with a unique reaction as a class feature at level 1, whether that's an existing thing (stand still, opportune backstab, riposte) or a new one

Lets discuss Pathfinder 2e. Post some stuff you like about PF2, and then some stuff you dislike about it. Hard mode: don't sperg out.

I'll start:

Like
- No 1-20 ability points, instead just opting for the bonuses. The 1-20 system has always felt kinda pointless outside of rolling stats, and you can still roll stats but instead of recording 1-20, you simply roll whatever modifier you'd get instead. (roll - 10) / 2
- No multiclassing. At first I didn't like this much, but it makes it much easier to create new classes that don't clash with other classes in unexpected ways. I think the idea of "hybrid classes" or subclasses that still offer a somewhat linear progression is more solid than multiclassing.
- Combat actions are class specific. This simplifies the rules in a way that I really like, and means whatever you can do, you'll probably be able to do well. You aren't going to be grappling people in combat as a wizard, after all. It also gives martials some more distinction, which is nice. It also means you can add more actions to each class without bloating the core system.
- Monsters don't use the same stats as PCs. I used to love this about 3.5e, but it just felt like needless complexity 19/20 times.

Dislike
- No touch / flat-footed AC. I love the concept of removing dex / armor from AC, so I'm sad this is gone, and I think the new flat modifiers are inferior. I never had any problems tracking this either, so I don't see the point.
- Skills and proficiencies getting bonuses from your levels. I just think the concept of 20+ level skill bonuses is a little hard to wrap my head around. It also feels like levels overpower everything else in the game, after a certain threshold.

>>
>>96528328
Oh no, I can't make other players irrelevant! This is bad for some reason!
>>
I like the reduced emphasis on full attacks, although the 3 action system is pretty terrible overall and ended with a ton of action taxes that once were free or swift actions and didn't compete with other things
I somewhat like the reduced prevalence of AoOs, there are a lot of spells and abilities that are near unusable in 1e because they provoke an AoO. But I think they went about it the wrong way, making many pcs and Npcs not able to AoO rather than refining what abilities actually provoke
>>
>>96532472
I didn't say it was bad. I said it's something I dislike. IMO PF2e System mastery is not rewarded in a significant way.
I think this design is better for new players, but I do not prefer it.

Welcome to the New School Revolution General, the thread dedicated to the games inspired by the Old School Revival (mainly for zoomers that didnt grow up with B/X).

Broadly, NSR games encourage emergent narrative, external interaction, exploration and emphasis on interesting worlds and rules light mechanics.

If you are new to the NSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started.

Some NSR systems for example:
-shadowdark
-into the odd (electric bastionland and mythic bastionland)
-mörk borg (and all of this multiple hacks)
-mothership
-cairn
-troika!
-orbital blues
-FIST

I've noticed a lot of new players trying different stuff and not knowig that stuff, but if you're into it you probably know. Mainly if you've ever read or played it.
OSE is very popular among NSR creators as a default fantasy system when they don't know how to catalogue something and they want a wider audience.

/tg/, I'm designing a campaign for my group.
The campaign consists from three acts. As a whole, they cover levels from 1 to 20.
What happens in the first act is immaterial for this thread.
In the very beginning of the second act, however, they will meet the big villain of the campaign, who decides that they're going to be a threat to his master plan and immediately kills them all right at the end of a gruelling dungeon. The player characters then go to Valhalla, meet not!Odin and then return to life with a divine quest.
Half of the second act will involve fulfilling this quest to pay not!Odin back for their resurrection. The other half involves revenge against the villain.

Now, obviously if they just reveal themselves, they'd just be killed again. So they'll be gently suggested to assume false identities and infiltrate the villain's massive army of mercenaries in order to foil his plan from the inside. By the end of the act, the villain's army will be gone, his personal power extinguished, and then he'll die as the final boss of the act.
That's the idea. However, I keep thinking about how it'll actually go. I have 7-9 dungeons in mind for the second act. That is a lot of sessions spent under secret identities, while everyone believes that they're dead. While the undercover arc could potentially be interesting, I'm also seeing the potential for it to be very exhausting to actually go through.

Should I just pre-emptively cut the "undercover" part to just 1 or 2 dungeons? It's going to be pretty difficult to change them on the fly, if I see that this story is not working.

Eh, 6 months to maximize the immuno stuff.
Formula from the jump is fine, though. Breast fed advocates mostly exist to keep it from dying out, but the truth is prior to formula tons of babies died from latching problems or other complications from breast feeding, and even into the neolithic there's evidence of humans expressing milk into animal skin to feed their babies. We've been beating nature for 10's of thousands of years.

RT had some neat rules around it, and one suggestion was to draw the interior of a building on graph paper and move the models to it or otherwise track movement on it as a way to deal with models going into interiors.

Why do most sci-fi settings sideline space combat but instead mostly focus on ground warfare?
