Weird love Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

Why are some people so afraid to run games?
I bought a beginners box for Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, on a whim when I was visiting a comic shop around 2012 or 2013 and had my first ttrpg Experience the following weekend as a GM.
Since then, my players and I had a great time and most of them started running games on their own.
So why the fuck do I see so many idiots online, mystifying the job of a GM? It should be easier than ever to run games today (yes even online three out of four games are totally fine, if you filter out the obvious morons).

In my experience it's a combination of laziness, not taking responsibility for their own anxiety, and lacking the skills to properly break things down into sections to learn and build on. Totally disagree. Sure you have to have some oratory skills but those can be acquired in an hour of yt tutorials, at most.
But after that you only have to be able to say what happens. No social skill involved. Heck you don't even have to voice NPCs just summarize their reaction and you're good. In my over ten years of GMing I haven't encountered a situation where it wasn't immediately obvious how the world might react, outside from some premade settings where I didn't have the complete lore in my head.

It's hard to say what edition this is because of all the LRB editions as well.

Technically, this is the third edition of GW's revamp. But I suspect it's going to just get called 2025 edition, same as most of us called it's predecessor 2020 edition.

Ah well... I was really hoping GW had forgotten about this one and another five years the community could have taken it back again and fixed it. I guess we'll have to see how bad it is when it arrives.

Point buy system, stats go from 1 to 10, but it's a d12 system. Initially you get 9 points to buy Mind Body or Soul (=), then you get double that available for (-) and (+) of every stat. In general terms:
> - : Passive i.e. Passive Mind -> Resisting Intimidation, or Passive Body -> Blocking an attack
> +: Active i.e. Active Mind -> Trying to learn something, or Active Soul -> Throwing a fireball
> =: Neutral or fallback value, for whenever you are not sure if something would be passive of active. It's also used for other calculations in the game
Items and magic have a similar structure, but with type of damage and stuff. Everything was made to be easily created with in seconds, I also have some scripts ready to make it easier.

How is my 5.5e divine soul sorcerer looking? Anything obvious I've missed or fucked up? I was thinking about getting shield/bless but don't really want to cut any of the other spells. I like magic missile because my DM regularly has enemy spell casters and it forces a lot of concentration rolls but it could go without too much difficulty. I have a lot of concentration spells but bless is still pretty amazing for a 1st level spell.

The party is a: dwarven battlemaster fighter, elf soulknife rogue, human oath of devotion paladin

Given, that gods in fantasy settings (mainly FR), actually exist and feed their followers their powers - how is it possible, church dogma would differ from gods values?

Example are Helmites, going full genocide in Maztica. If gods are present and know the shit, their followers are pulling off, Helm should take aways followers powers immediately.

The answer is relatively simple — intermediaries. Everything from gun runners to "doctors without morals".
Any capable villain usually attracts a swarm of various fixers, logistic specialists, and even street gangs.

You're thinking too reductively. Villains don't exist in a vacuum.
Rather, they find or create a niche for themselves within the criminal "ecosystem".
Like any other ecosystem, it needs someone filling every level of it to remain stable.
From street gang plankton, and all the way to the apex predators — the supervillains.

I've been there.
It's a great opportunity to try some new techniques, therefore buy some equipment which you don't already have, so that you don't end up with duplicates when your crates finally arrive.
Another option: Depending on how quick you work, 3 months can give you enough time to complete a project. So, for example, if you only ever made buildings before, now could be the time to make a battlemap.
The materials you'll need for it will be mostly stuff you don't already have and which will be used up for the project.

NTA but it's been viable for a lot longer than that, since core it's been viable. Spellbinder is basically all you need on top of Rogue or Priest. What hasn't really been viable is mixing non-Power with Power Paths because of how badly it fucks spell progression. That's something that's been fixed in SotDL.

That's a common misconception.

OSE-Classic is not "like" B/X, it is pretty much exactly B/X, minus the examples of play. Great reference manual, not very suitable to learn the game.

OSE-Advanced is not like AD&D. It is still B/X but with extra charbuild options, monsters, and treasures that are vaguely inspired by AD&D but heavily modified. And, more importantly, it omits practically everything from the DMG, which is what really defines AD&D.

If you want to play OSE-Advanced it's fine (mostly), but don't delude yourself that you're playing AD&D.

Good reply but it bears clarifying that while B/X can be a good way to take baby steps toward AD&D, that's not the case with AD&D 2e, because while the core engine of OD&D, AD&D, and B/X is the same, AD&D 2e messes with the most important core mechanics. So if someone wanted to play AD&D 2e, B/X would not be a good introduction to it --- if anything, it would be the opposite. (Which is not a bad thing.)
