Making a thread about scary Yugoloths and why every party should fear them. 100% success rate at taking down PCs and their stupid adventure-ling parties. I feel like even though there is a bit of a surge in popularity for the medium, the actual art of rules writing might be slipping away. We haven't lost it yet, but there may have been some stagnation. What exactly makes a wargame/TTRPG's rules good? And what is the most "retard proof" method of slowly or even hastily (if possible) to learn to be a good writer of wargame/ttrpg rules?
>>97820580You're asking two different questions:>What makes a wargame's rules good?>What makes a TTRPG's rules good? They are very different beasts.>the actual art of rules writing might be slipping awayNo? We've got more TTRPGs than ever before today. Lots of them drastically differ from one another, be it on a small or large scale.Like, I've written about 10 TTRPGs and if any of them share core rules, it's by intent for one reason or another, and even then many have drastically different rules in other areas.>And what is the most "retard proof" method of slowly or even hastily (if possible) to learn to be a good writer of wargame/ttrpg rules? For TTRPGs, you need to first decide what you want our game to do.>How strong are player characters?Comment too long. Welcome to /2eg/, a thread dedicated to all things 2nd Edition D&D related - including settings, lore, modules, and derived systems (Alternity, Buck Rogers XXVc, For Gold and Glory, Hackmaster, Myth and Magic, and more).Since 2e draws heavily from earlier editions, older modules are welcome too. Other media derived from AD&D (such as Infinity Engine video games) also has a home here. It's what you play, not how you play it. RAW or homebrew, as long as your table is having fun, there's no wrong way to play. There's a surprisingly complete 2e fan wiki for rules stuff, it's excellent for quick reference:https://adnd2e.fandom.com/wiki/Advanced_Dungeons_%26_Dragons_2nd_Edition_Wikiad&d 2e archiveaHR0cHM6Ly93ZWIuYXJjaGl2ZS5vcmcvd2ViLzIwMjUwMjA0MTczNzUwL2h0dHBzOi8vdGhlLWV5ZS5ldS9wdWJsaWMvQm9va3MvcnBnLnJlbS51ei9EdW5nZW9ucyUyMCYlMjBEcmFnb25zL0FEJkQlMjAybmQlMjBFZGl0aW9uLw==Remember to keep things civil.Thread Question - why the 2e hate?

Long time MtG player (17 years?) and with what's happening to the game rn, i don't really have much interest in any of the new sets. Sorcery looks like it could maybe scratch that itch. The art is fantastic and reminds me of legacy MtG art. Anybody here play?I watched a few overview vids, but I'm curious how the actual gameplay goes. For someone who plays mostly EDH, are there any similarities? Is it usually a 2 player match? How long are the matches usually? Is it as much of a money pit as MtG?Convinced a few of my MtG friends to give it a shot based off of the art alone. Just need an idea of what I'm up against in terms of learning curve.

Well its April 1st again. I return first of all to remember one of /tg/'s finest works: Dungeons the Dragoning 40,000 7th edition. Last year I gave the game a revision, stapling both books together so it could rival a phonebook. This year I have more DtD news: 8th edition is on the way. If you want to try out 7th edition before then though the book is in the same spot as always: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/2/folders/1HTYsfwiIWlGg4UZb5Bi32PYgTxKHUIp8There's also links to a place where you can wait for updates on a playtest.
