At an Italian fair yesterday I was given a Burger King book that reads like a D&D-style TTRPG manual; classes, abilities, dice, the works. I’ve never seen this at other BKs. Is this an Italy-only promo? Is there an English version or any official release news? Links or details appreciated.

Hey! Italian here too... any news on the PDF?

The Lucca con ended, but they will also distribute the manual and the dice at the Milan Games Week at the end of November.

Hope to see a free PDF version from Burger King (or at least a good scan from Italians that got the paper copies).

They went too far in making him subservient to Vraska. I never liked edgelord Jace but from Ixalan onwards he's like reddit beta Jace and it's just as bad, in a different direction.
WotC's character writing is peak millennial because everyone either stands around like a cuck taking orders, or they are le MCU badass quipping and killing everything in 1 hit, and sometimes it's both, with a character switching back and forth between this shit with nothing in between. People writing for this game are in their 30s and 40s and they fucking suck.
This game used to have actual writers commissioned to do full novels for fatpacks...

>now without blocks of any sort the most they could do would be to group the most recent three sets together for an equivalent... which is just a form a standard.
They don't even need to do that, though.
Foundations + 1 set has 777 cards which is more than any 3-set block had. That would be a fine format for small events with LGS prize support. Shit, MTGO had Block dailies even at the start of blocks at which point they only had a single set released.
Even if we jettison FDN from the equation, today's sets have about the necessary amount of playable rares and power level (FIRE design!!) so as to rival entire old blocks, maybe excepting Spider-Man which was an obvious fuckup in that respect. It's no longer the case that sets are released with the expectation of fully exploring their themes and mechanics in layer, connected sets, so they should all be able to stand alone, theoretically.

I know I'm talking into the wind here and nobody at WotC is reading /tg/ for ideas. But it just seems really important to me to have a functional on-ramp. The gulf between the lowest buy-in (which is draft/pre-release sealed) and the very next step up the competitive chain (which today is Standard) has never been wider. Like if you played at your LGS every single week for EoE, then you probably opened about one booster box's worth of cards, right? And, not kidding, by the math, you probably would have opened like 0-2 Standard playable spells in all of those packs, plus some Shocklands. The card collection aspect could be so much more enticing than it currently is.

Criminal contacts (and instincts?), doesn't look like a Fed, physically capable.
Most importantly: coped with something fucking crazy happening and responded by solving the problem instead of freaking out uselessly.
That's the person DG wants to send into something unknown and probably terrible.

The good ones give you a paragraph to explain what could/should happen, and then enough tools to let your players work through that. There's plenty of negative space to fill, but that should all come pretty naturally because it's mostly normal life bits.

Actually, just let him be a conspiracy theorist and invite his player to metagame wildly. His 'value' to his handlers is that he's already read in on all the conspiracy shit, but if he ever tells anyone he looks like a loon.
Bonus points for not using commonly-known spooky shit, or playing unconventional conspiracies or cryptids.
>>
>>96908122
I'd probably have some really vague allusions to it, disappearances and the like, weird scrawls of some weirdly shaped thing that seemed very hastily made, etc. The players would have to avoid learning too much whilst also still trying to find a way to get rid of or entrap it.

Finally finished reading the copy of Noctuary and Spectral Link I picked up last year. Ligotti is always dense but I was really sucked in with the final story The Small People.
I pictured them as these little mini fig people or those wooden modeling dolls but flesh but no apparently they're disgusting veiny creeps. Still, a pretty interesting concept if you just look at it surface level.
These entirely unexplainable creatures that mimic humanity and are constantly moving 'Small Country' around leaving areas no human can approach due to an inexplicable distaste for anything to do with them.

I was thinking that maybe the tac ops that force you into enemy territory to score them would be enough to counteract this... but there's only 3... (5 if you include plant devices and plant banner)
and they're spread around the archetypes meaning you're never forced to take one
also the two security ones are more like toeing into enemy territory as far away from danger as humanly possible
not great

The one issue is the different armour marks. You need some way to differentiate between the models that are supposed to be tacticus, phobos, and gravis, since they have different stats. Especially the gravis ones, since they should have a larger silhouette and would look weird on a whole 40mm base.
But it's absolutely a good choice for how to make them. Picrel is how I added a gravis operative to my team, converted mostly from a tartarus terminator.
>>
>>96911745
I'd argue base size and weapon loadout do enough to differentiate, but maaaybe phobos would want some more distinction

I imagine it would have both, given the state of the mechanicus in this sector and the major inquisition presence. Probably the only absolutely loyal Imperial presence in the sector, possibly because their faith in the Emperor is strong enough to overcome/mitigate the corruption that's been spreading, which is also probably why the Inquisition are here in force.

Pretty much agree with these. I would probably slot in Kineticist and Wrestler over over some of your other choices. Wood is the most well known strong one, but stuff like Thermal Nimbus and some of the water impulses are underrated. Wood and Earth Armors are also excellent to give better AC, on top of giving you stuff like Bulwark and Shield Block.

Wrestler speaks for itself. Free Titan Wreslter, free skill bump for the best skill in the game, feats that do everything from let you "grab" AC to punishing creatures for escaping your grabs.

Not that anon, but Wrestler always seems to be good with a lot of melee classes, especially with the Gymnast Swashbuckler from what I've seen since it synergizes well with it due to getting panache from grappling, repositioning, tripping and shoving. I like the cool abilities and flavor of Kineticists, especially the Wood/Earth mix for defense and healing it provides, but they often feel very limited in what they can multiclass into since the Elemental Blasts don't count as strikes and wouldn't trigger stuff like the Investigator's Attack Stratagem.
>>
>>96911661
ehhh.
Wrestler is pretty great, but I wouldn't call it busted. It's best things (since Whirling Throw was nerfed) is that quick bump in Athletics proficiency and easy access to Combat Grab. It isn't the kind of meta-defying "win more" button the options I listed are. It's on the same tier as Scout, Pistol Phenom, Fireworks Technican, or Acrobat -- an incredible slot-in for your build/statline but there are obviously higher powered picks.
And Kineticist does have great feats, but the +2 to CON prerequisite is the most taxing requirement and the dedication might as well do nothing for most classes. Plus the inability to mesh with other options really handicaps its possible power.

>>96911668
>It really should not be such a hard class to understand or play properly when it's such a basic bitch, common fantasy to be "Guy Who Punches Good (and A Lot)"
It sort of comes down to 2 issues
>"Guy that punches really hard" is kind of a different fantasy compared to "guy with a really cool magic sword"
>Redundancy
The better you make the core punch fantasy, the more you downplay the effectiveness of other traditional martial skills, especially when you introduce actual physicality to weapons (sunder rules/durability, ammo, weight, metals). So it becomes an awkward balancing act of finding ways to amp up punching and other Asian martial arts without making all the other options less valuable. Hence the super weird ki systems everyone makes for them. Hell, some fault can even be pinned towards Cleric/Warpriest/CoDzilla issues, with how it ends up being the "disciple of a martial order" deal.
It doesn't help grognards have a history of getting really uppity when a traditional fantasy game starts getting too weeby, see the longstanding joke of the Book of Weeaboo Fightan Majick.

>Dwarves just Hobbits with beards
>Balrogs as horned Christian devils
>Ents as literal trees
The first three, I get. But could you elaborate on these?
How are most Tolkien-inspired games doing Dwarves wrong?
I mean, sure, the Balrog in LOTR isn't described in tons of details, but imagining them as horned devils doesn't seem too far-fetched?
Aren't Ents described by someone on Saruman's side as looking like a forest that walks?
>>
>>96908504
>How are most Tolkien-inspired games doing Dwarves wrong?
Dwarves were not ever described as being aggressive drunkard Scots for one thing, nor were they just short people with beards. They were hardy, strong, stubborn, but honourable people, designed to survive through the harsh times of the First Age. D&D first began the trend of Dwarves being axe-wielding morons, but the LotR films really cemented them as this slapstick idiot viking midget trope.
>I mean, sure, the Balrog in LOTR isn't described in tons of details, but imagining them as horned devils doesn't seem too far-fetched?
It's too Christian to think of them like that. Tolkien's pretty much only inclusion of his faith was having a single primary God in Eru Iluvatar, but the bulk of divine interaction in Arda was the Valar, which were much closer to a pagan pantheon style of deities than anything Christian, precisely because Tolkien was going for a native British mythology to fill the gap that Arthurian legend (polluted by French and Christian ideologies) awkwardly perched in. It's then fairly obvious to see that Balrogs would be less like Christian demons or devils in aesthetic, and more like fire giants of Norse mythology, since it's clear Tolkien used a lot of Norse mythology already. Less horned goat and more enemies of Asgard.
>Aren't Ents described by someone on Saruman's side as looking like a forest that walks?
That's the Huorns. They were what looked like a moving forest, because they were literally trees that could move. Ents (name derived from Ettin) were always described more as giant humanoids, similar to trolls, but with some traits that resembled trees (Treebeard, for example, had smooth brown arms, a beard that had some slight mossy and twiggy qualities, big feet with seven toes each, and what was likely clothing made of green and grey bark but potentially was his torso skin, though I lean more towards clothes, his arms were bare and not bark-like, neither were his feet).

Stopped reading right there. You know that Tolkien was an outspoken Catholic, right?

The Dunedain as depicted in the Last Alliance are pretty book accurate. They're mostly armored in mail, with wings on their helmets.

People always shit on 4e, but at least it gave us cantrips so spell-casters wouldn't be totally worthless at low levels, something that many future tabletops stole from it...

It also had a set of Diablo and WoW supplements for it too.

First, you need to understand that when people say it's like wow that's a metonym meaning "it's like a vidya rpg". Wow is just one example of a vidya rpg, though the biggest and best known at the time 4e was released.

Second, I'm not your web valet. My goal was to show that the 4e designers themselves said it was like vidya contradicting the anon, maybe even you, who was implying that claims of similarities were invalid. The similarities are there regardless of the designers being aware of them. That the designers say this was a deliberate goal on their part just amplifies the anon's wrongness. If you want particular details of similarities that players have found over the years do a websearch.

Dismissing those quotes as wishy washy is disingenuous when only one of them mentions being told what to do, and the first says "the lessons we learn from online games are going to be the most obvious". You're coming at this in bad faith and you're still asking me to provide sources for you. That's rude. Do it yourself.

>No that's 3E. Looked at Fallout and Everquest.
Interesting. I very briefly played Everquest, well after it's original release, never played a single Fallout game so I can't comment on that, but I don't see 3e being similar to Everquest, certainly not as obvious as the relationship between 4e, wow and diablo.

You said in >>96909253 that you played the game and decided for yourself that it felt like a video game. What exactly felt like a video game?

4e was the best edition of dnd simply because it was not dnd

>Mearles, 2012, backs up Heinsoo's statement
That just makes me assume it isn't true.
