>Sup /tg/
It's been a fucking long time since there has been one of these, but I think they provide a useful service to the board.
/yourdudes/ is a vital element of tabletop, but in recent years it has felt out-of-place in the bulk of the other threads on the board. Rather than shitting up the threads of others, why not discuss your imaginary warbands with other like-minded autists?

What is /ydg/?
>A place to share your custom/homebrew factions/warbands/armies from any wargame or TTG
>A place build on their lore, stories and what makes them cool
>A place for modeling ideas, colour schemes, and any ideas, critiques, or suggestions
>General writefaggotry is also accepted as long as it's /ydg/ related

Help me out here lads.
I got a warpsmith on the way for my red corsairs and have to decide his original chapter/warband. I was thinking Iron Warriors but thinking about it it feels the obvious basic choice.
What's a good alternative for you?
>>
>>96912438
Well, warsmiths are pretty much iron warriors only, but if you wanted to take a more literal view of the word, a thousand sons sorcerer is well known for grabbing bits of the warp and smithing them as he likes.

Que Retardado Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

Anon.. you knew exactly what you will get for the money you invest. You chose to spend the agreed amount of money, and recieve the stuff you paid for. If anything, you get more than you were promised, since the Kickstarter success allows you to recieve Carcass Front for free. Now you're just demanding extra over entitlement.

>Stopped reading right there.
Then you stopped reading after I said "Tolkien's pretty much only inclusion of his faith was having a single primary God in Eru Iluvatar", which then renders your question pointless and dishonest. Tolkien did NOT equate his faith with his wider purpose of creating a true English myth. Which is why he never jumped the shark like his friend CS Lewis did when he included a talking lion version of Jesus, for example.

>Ents (name derived from Ettin) were always described more as giant humanoids, similar to trolls, but with some traits that resembled trees
Interesting. I had the chance of reading LOTR before the Jackson movies came out, but for some reason I still pictured them as animated trees. But re-reading about it, yeah, it seems that indeed you are right.
Perhaps what got me confused is that they are said to "come to ressemble" the essences of trees they were watching over and "sometimes turn more tree-like with the time".
We don't have any illustrations of Ents made by Tolkien himself? Or at least, directly Tolkien-approved?
You also mentioned that the weapons and armour shouldn't be medieval, which period would be the best equivalent to late 3rd-Age tech level?
>>
>>96912087
>We don't have any illustrations of Ents made by Tolkien himself? Or at least, directly Tolkien-approved?
I don't think Tolkien ever illustrated or approved one himself. Personally, this is as close as I could get to something that evokes what Tolkien was most likely going for, which would be his own version of the Green Man figure.
>You also mentioned that the weapons and armour shouldn't be medieval, which period would be the best equivalent to late 3rd-Age tech level?
It's honestly difficult to determine, as it not only varies between regions of Middle-earth, but also has the added variable of literal magic. The Numenoreans, for example, are supposed to be a stand-in for Atlantis, and they built structures that were clearly supernatural in origin (smooth black walls of Orthanc or the outer wall of Minas Tirith, for example), and made towers that would've made Medieval civilisations marvel. They also had steel, and magical metals like mithril, so it's not exactly that the level of tech is tied to our standard period divisions. After all, it's supposed to be a lost time period before history, which would be in the middle of what we know as the Stone Age but clearly isn't that either.

But the Numenorean aesthetic as an example hints at ancient civilisations like the Egyptians or Babylonians, because Tolkien was aiming for an English equivalent. He wasn't trying to transplant the European Medieval period into our history, we already had it, he was trying to create a mythical age that we either never had or have long since lost after countless invasions and occupations. So anything that both provides an English theme but with very obvious hints towards ancient times would work. A suit of armour straight out of the War of the Roses would be inappropriate by comparison.

soak in super clean, if you have access to it. works better than simple green to remove paint and break the bond of super glue. might need a couple overnight dunks with some scrubbing in between to get the paint off, but otherwise i have never had an issue getting the parts unstuck using that.
>>
>>96909829
on the subject of this, Inkwash anon, if you're still working on your part of this, a good one page guide for stripping old paint would be helpful for the people looking to revive old armies. what to use, equivalents in different areas of the world, downsides, all on a short little chart would work well. (example; simple green, available in USA, Australia, Canada, Fiji, New Caledonia, New Zealand, and Singapore, upside: preserves parts and eats away at paint, downside is it stains the models green, but this doesn't matter if you're repriming them)

something like that.

Getting away from game systems and pieces for a moment, how do you prevent a gamestore from becoming a free childcare service, while still remaining open and amicable with the public?

The case I go back to are the GW Battle Bunkers. The one in Memphis I was familiar with really sold me on the hobby, walking in and seeing 20+ full art, prepped tables and getting to observe games as a youngster was a wonderful experience, but the sheer amount of unattended children and teens was the given as the reason for the closing of the game room (outside of special events, though I believe they're just gone-gone now, correct me if I'm wrong). When I've returned to the Battle Bunker stores recently, they've been sterile, dark, empty, like you walked into a small town's only munition shop. I can't imagine this facilitating the sale of starter boxes or generating referral traffic, though obviously these larger distributor warehouses don't really care about direct sales too too much.

So that brings up your LGS. What staff training, procedures, and store policies can really protect a store from becoming an irresponsible parent drop off, while still protecting these entry-level childhood experiences that attach kids to these hobbies and these open, high quality gaming spaces to responsible players? I don't see many of these these days, they're either holes in the wall with one 4x4 table and two blanchard tables for Magic, or they're really low quality, wide open cheap strip mall joints with rows and rows of folding tables and no quality art pieces, terrain, or table builds. How could this be fixed adequately?

Spell Speed 3 effects (Counter Traps) can only be responded to by other Spell Speed 3 effects, and can be activated during the Damage Step.

Conjunctions. It's not terrible and people remember the general premise of them but at the same time many people seem to misremember them. Usually they mix up "then" and "also".
The other big one is summon response window, particularly with cards that insulate on summon like Branded Lost.

Depends on edition.

>1e
It depends on your Storyteller's needs for the game. The scale of power used for Allies is almost entirely arbitrary in this edition.

>2e
The power of Allies depends on what you're playing, as Allies scale directly to how strong your starting characters are / what splat you're playing. That being said, because you can build a starting character who is a sorcerer as almost any splat, it would be unreasonable not to allow one dot of Allies to get you a sorcerer ally.

One dot is a 'very minor supernatural ally', which could be a sorcerer who is just starting out and hasn't learned more than one or two spells yet (and probably doesn't even have five dots in Occult or Intelligence, gasp!), while three dots is 'a supernatural ally at least as powerful as a young terrestrial Exalt', which could be a serious, experienced, and committed sorcerer with somewhere in the region of two dozen spells or more (which is more than a young terrestrial Exalt could start with, but a mortal sorcerer doesn't get Excellencies or the variety of native charms terrestrials would get).

>Demake
They'd be a two dot ally almost always, the exceptions being when they've either done something extreme to break beyond the normal limits of mortals or have near-zero grounding in the occult to the point where it's laborious and risky to cast even basic spells or workings.

Depends on edition. 1e has the strongest enlightened mortals (Boost physical attributes only, up to Essence+5, Player's Guide 120), 2e has the most level and consistent presentation (no excellency, but a wide array of thaumaturgy and martial arts to exploit), and 3e has the most variable and ad-hoc version (do whatever you want, Storyteller characters only).

That said they've never actually had a dice limit set anywhere like everybody else does, in any edition, and if they got access to an uncapped 'add X dice where X is motes spent' type Excellency then theoretically they can pump as many dice as they have motes into it. Most Storytellers would cap them far below this though, usually based on whatever magic it is that gave them that ability - for example, giving them the Solar dice limit when they've been given power through Power Awarding Prana.

Working on an Abyssal antagonist for an upcoming campaign, and I made some Evocations for her Resplendent Shadow Blade. Was just wondering if anyone felt like looking them over and giving some feedback.

Sure. Overall, cool artifact. I'm a big fan of telepresence/scry and this is entirely build around it, so i might be biased, but it seems mostly balanced and fun to use. At most re:balance I'd say that the first few charms are stronger than average for their level while the last few charms are weaker than average for their level, but that's normalized in 3e design despite being an awful idea, so meh, all good.

>Upon dealing lethal damage to a target, Solitary Star can spend 1 mote to reflexively reduce the damage inflicted down to zero. Instead of dying[....]
This should be 'Upon dealing incapacitating damage to a target,' if I'm reading your intent right. Lethal damage is a damage type (things like being cut or burned, as opposed to being bruised or disintegrated), while incapacitating damage is would-kill-you damage.

>The Void Star Marked gains an Intimacy of worshipful fear towards Solitary Star as long as the mark remains on them
Should be 'gains a Minor Intimacy of worshipful fear towards Solitary Star which cannot be removed as long as the mark remains on them.'

>Taking Stock of the Tools
Very strong. Scry+Speak with unlimited range and only a mote cost, which seems intentionally designed to fake minor telepresence especially given TCHaGT, is close to being over the top of what I'd ever think was appropriate for E2.

>Breaking the Discarded Tool.
>Solitaire
Probably meant to be Solitary Star, unless that's a nickname.

>If the Void Star Marked dies while under the effects of this Charm, their body automatically explodes as per Breaking the Discarded Tool. If the Void Star Marked dies in any other way, the Charm instantly ends and Solitary Star suffers (10-Essence) levels of unsoakable lethal damage from necrotic backlash.
The first clause should cover all death clauses under the effects of the charm. The second clause covers all other effects. This feels like a versioning/editing error, but if this is actually meant to mean that once this charm is taken, killing Void Star Marked deals damage to Solitary Star when she's not possessing them (making it a weakness that could be exploited to harm her from afar) then that should be more clearly stated. If it's not then the second part which covers all other deaths probably isn't necessary - there's no way to trigger 'the void marked dies while the charm is active, but in a way other than dying' so far as I can tell. You might have meant that while possessing the Void Star Marked Breaking the Discarded Tool can be activated reflexively, and if it isn't then the Abyssal takes damage from the backlash when they die.

>Tools Get Used
This is a perfect defense and should probably have a once/scene on it with a reset condition because of it.

>Solitary Star magically yanks one of her Void Star Marked
"yanks one of her Void Star Marked from within medium range"

>If there is no Void Star Marked within Medium Range of Solitary Star
Either "If there is no Void Star Marked within range of Solitary Star" if you did the previous edit, or otherwise it's just that medium range doesn't need capital letters.

Good fences make good neighbours you fat retard, in shitburgerstan it's literally illegal to put a fence around your 'yard' in most places despite boundary disputes accounting for literal fucking shootings

I want to talk about these little lizards. My current game has one running a thieves' guild, who the players have nervously interacted with time and time again.

It also matters a lot what that inventiveness is for. Kobolds are typically trappers, not besiegers, which makes kobold shitbuilds inherently more sympathetic. They're working with what they have at home, and that's usually not very much in the way of industry. Goblins are usually working with stuff they've stolen, and will bring their shitbuilds to try and burn down or blow up a village. In contrast, if you get hit with a kobold trap... there's a good chance you've chosen to put yourself in a place that you already know might have kobold traps.
It's very, very easy to turn existing kobold characterization into mundane coexistence as a part of D&D "civilization." They aren't inflexibly chaotic. Individual kobolds aren't particularly predisposed towards attacking people (they are acutely aware of how weak they are). They don't necessarily need to kill or steal from people to satisfy their biological needs OR their usual goals. There's not a lot of wind behind the "kobolds as evil hordes" sails EXCEPT when you make whatever they serve evil... in which case it's not really the kobolds' fault directly. It's not like they'd survive rebelling - you might even pity them for being used that way as you're fighting them.
By the last edition of D&D that called kobolds lawful evil, they were already closer to lawful neutral in practice. If the narrative gives them no concrete reason to be hostile to you (like them serving a hostile dragon or you invading their home), there's little besides a couple of mostly ignored lines in ancient splatbooks to imply that they would invent a reason or attack without one like a goblin would.

...Unless you're a gnome (in which case they already have plenty of good reasons, screw gnomes).

As an aside, one thing I wish we saw more of in D&D stuff is kobolds working for metallic/good dragons. I suppose the lack makes sense, since kobolds (and chromatics) are a good bit more common to encounter than metallics.

Yes, this is very true. "Vaguely draconic humanoid" is more like a human wearing a costume most of the time, even in what little info about them we get. Tieflings aren't even as bad in that regard.

Then there's weird, confusing, overlapping nonsense in D&D like the difference between dragonborn and half-dragons - which includes of course the detail that the "dragonborn" are the ones NOT born from dragons.

i wonder if cooked kobold tastes like alligator. cooked human apparently tastes like pork, after all.

Something something Kobold Liberation Front. Something something rebellion plot/side questline.
Also, further proving your point about characterization, a PC kobold fighting the Big Bad Dragon to liberate their brethren isn't exactly hard to imagine.

Semi-related question: could they serve half-dragons/dragonborn/whatever-dragon-related? Even if it's as something like low-cost low-power allies, or something to that effect.
Imagine slaying a dragon as a half-dragon, then get beset by a gaggle of confused kobolds that just lost their boss and don't know what to do and ask if you're in charge of them now.
It's rather amusing to imagine some kind of literal underground criminal enterprise, with 'bolds working for a guy with draconic features.
If it's at least somewhat dragon-looking, kobolds will feel an instinctive urge to serve it. Sad, but also kinda funny.

• PLEASE BUMP THE THREAD IF IT REACHES PAGE 10!

>Requesters:
• Provide good, detailed references (pictures are better than verbal descriptions), so the artists know what you're looking for.
• If you have a WIP quote the Anchor Post, and attach the WIP so your Drawfag can find you.
• Do not reply to other deliveries with a request that the artist fill your request next. This is called 'piggybacking'.
• Do not make multiple requests in the same thread and do not serially request multiple characters after a delivery. Suggesting several concepts for artists to choose from counts as making multiple requests.
• If you're unsatisfied with your completed request, please wait at least one week before you re-request. If someone follows this rule, don't waste posts by complaining about it.
• No furries allowed.
• Stay on topic.

>Drawfags and Drawfags-to-be:
• Drop your tumblrs/websites/commission/etc information, but if you're dropping your commission info, please consider filling a request beforehand instead of just advertising.
• Please keep AI deliveries to the /slop/ threads. This is a thread for human-made art.

It's an incredible piece of art, my only criticism is that maybe it needs color, you know, it's just a human with a mask without the color green.

Requester here, holy shit, the pointy hood is a nice touch. Also the way the steed is twisted is a great idea as well. I'll need to add both to my descriptions when I describe the boss. Luckily they've only had a brief exposure to him, when his steed crawled out of a hell gate that were five people fused together

Thank you so much
