Thread #02 Lean Winter on the Tundra
Previous Thread: >>97090196

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

Enfield Monster
-reported encounter april 25, 1973 - enfield, illinois
-encountered firsthand - dec 2025 -
-details from reported case are similar to what was encountered recently
-approx 5.5 feet tall
-human-like torso, hunched over
-large mouth, sharp teeth, bite is capable of breaking firearm and doing heavy damage to steel plate body armor
-two large, pink/red, glowing eyes. glow visually oscillates, like cuttlefish? hypnosis when looking directly into eyes, maybe close range? also can possibly inflict a sort of hysteria and amnesia afterwards, similar to werewolves? I was hypnotized during last encounter-- body cam footage shows me sinking to my knees and dropping my rifle. Doesn't immediately wear off after creature is killed. I'm being monitored for long term effects.
-3 legs, capable of delivering lethal kick. can also grab and lift full grown woman with leg.
-2 short arms, sharp claws
-footprints 5+ toes?
-can leap vert/horiz 20+ feet. don't know about other movement.
-horiz leap capable of knocking over full grown man.
-no hair, leathery, gray. blends in well with trees. this with the big eyes might be why it was dismissed for an owl in 1973.

Been a few days. Mostly beaten the infection. Felt good enough to go to a Christmas party. Probably a mistake, there were some people there nobody in town knew, kept catching them shadowing myself and a few others. Fucking feds. Gave them the slip on the way back to Fort GNP, and I haven't seen anyone poking around on my security cameras. Still mulling over my options. Driving me up the wall.

>>97227916
The converted humans came out of the water and climbed aboard rapidly, likely the same with the walking squid. We think the derelict is a trap to lure in sailors for more people to convert. One of us had the bright idea to light up the boat beneath the waterline while we fled, several days later it's gotta be sunk, guy had a machinegun, like an old M60 I think. Can't say I know any wizards.

>>97228548
While you're probably right, there's a few practical problems. One, all I ever hear about the feds is how they're in bed with the monsters. Two, I have done things that could get me fired or worse while working for the much more mundane federal government. Fort GNP is a wonderful place, it's also incredibly illegal. Been wondering if there would be a way to safely leak information on that thing to the MIBs.

>>97233356
I got a cellmate looking into some old whaling gear, from before it got banned, to see if any of it is usable. I'd rather not Ahab it, but if we could harpoon it and slam it into an iceberg or drag it into the pack ice that might work.
>>
>>97242538
>>97242701
Beginning to think I may have been working for them all along. I'm not really in with them enough to know but I'll certainly be letting you fellows know.
>>97242806
How would you report your friend's reaction to being alone with the creature? Or how does he talk about it if he remembers? That sort of panic does seem pretty similar to what we've felt with the werewolf in the unlucky circumstance one of us was alone after. Didn't last too long though I think, luckily. You didn't get to keep any body parts?
>>97243132
I thought you were working for the government? At any rate, best hope whaling the beast can be left to your last resort. Whaling was dangerous enough without the supernatural being involved.

A concerning move by such creatures. Good on you and yours for disabling their trap and shame about the lack of a mystic. Do you think it would be feasible to lure it into shallower waters where munitions would be more ideal? If you wanted to try and tip the imagined feds off, while keeping yourself safe, perhaps a fake dead drop could be arranged. You would have to catch them shadowing you and then hide out but it may allow you to leak it safely. Well as safe as one can be in our hobby
>>97242806
god grant you and yours temperance and wisdom in the coming trials. It sounds like digging some more into local history might be worthwhile if the shadowy group can move in such a manner. A businessman or such coming in during a local recession could be damning for the enemy organization.
>>97243374
Well there is one way to see if you have been working for that organization. Did anyone in your group receive a paper with a crow on it in some manner? It would not be a guarantee but it would point to them.

>This game takes place in the world of Dispatch—a living, breathing city where danger erupts without warning and heroes are the thin line holding everything together. I’ll be your DM, but in this world, you’ll know me as your Dispatcher.
[...]

>Your missions will range from capturing dangerous villains to rescuing civilians, stopping escalating threats, uncovering hidden plots, or confronting unknown anomalies. Dispatch calls don’t wait. They hit fast, loud, and unpredictable. When that call goes out, you suit up, step forward, and answer it.

>Using Daggerheart’s Duality system—Hope and Fear—we’re shaping a flexible, evolving ruleset that grows with both the world and your characters. Every mission will test your skills. Every choice will shape the city around you. And as the story unfolds, we’ll refine and expand the system together, adapting it to the heroes you become.

>This is a world where your decisions matter, where Hope fuels your rise, where Fear pushes back, and where every Dispatch shapes the next chapter. You’re not just playing a character. You’re becoming a symbol.

Vista edition

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

Frankly a united front wasn't going to really help; David and company, fresh and ready at peak performance could probably deal with Smasher in the sense of being able to inflict significant damage, survive and retreat; but taking him when they're hurt and tired on his home turf takes blood they frankly don't have. Most crews are in the same boat whether it's Smasher or Blackhand or Shaitan or any other number of old hands; you need to be bringing your best to meet them on an average day; or ensure their day has been a whole hell of a lot worse than average.

The only way Smasher is substantially different than any other example of high powered players is that his MO is that of a terrorist attack, shock and awe, incredible singular violence against those unequipped to handle it. His one-man band routine indeed relies on the fact he's not deployed for fair fights, but it will be no consolation if you have to bury all your friends, skip town and call yourself lucky.

Regarding Lucy, she did and she got a digital backhand for her trouble. She'd probably be a huge part of any combined plan and in any fight long enough to drag out she could do some serious work on him, but individually she's just too fragile.

Put differently, one to one, you need armor and firepower equal to or exceeding a military FBC to stop Smasher from doing what he does best: grinding meat. You need to have something to stop the knife from cutting or he will pass right through.

Harrier Jet style engines. That's what is directly quoted in 2020. While they do actually have the power to lift something like an AV it is a tricky proposition to keep it stable at speed when flying a minivan as opposed to a sleek jet.

The thing is, smasher is very dangerous and a boogieman because he's a fucking chimp. Skill level he's not the top solo, yes, there are better ones. The issue is that smasher has got that dog in him and he sees red mist. That's why you don't want to fight him, because for almost everyone else it's mutual annihilation.

“Fuck my live, why do I always end up in mortal peril, often naked or near enough, and usually on the run for the Slaaneshi? I think that Cummissar bitch drugged me somehow.. Is that you Lord Spencer? I think I recognize your armor, but it is hard to tell from back here. Can you stop carrying me like this? If someone tries to shoot you in the face but misses about a foot or two to the right, those bullets are going to go right up my rear, and I don’t want to cap off the past seven years of repeated humiliations with an extra humiliating death. Can’t I do some sort of do a piggyback thing where I just cling to the back of that big power pack you where on your back? Wait, did you just deliberately stomp that Slaaneshi girl? She could have been a prisoner like me! I mean probably not, but come on, she barely looked legal you sick Alpha Legion fuck! No wait! I didn’t mean to say that! The drugs are messing with my head! Please don’t kill me! I never told anyone I think you might be Alpha Legion! I really don’t deserve this!

(incoherent sobbing for a while) I am pretty sure the Emperor turned-turned his backback on me ages ago anyways. I've seen similar craft channels push this same idea. Looks like she used too much mica powder and didn't add any surfactant to the mix to keep it from separating. I hope you showed appreciation, Lardo. Not everyone has someone in their life that would go through the trouble to make something like that for them. They may not be super practical but whipping out the magic 8-ball style d20 for the critical roll would cool.

What are some things that retired adventurers in double-digit levels could get up to in a city?

I have an idea for a faction for the next chapter of my campaign being built around five such figures who hold different forms of formal or informal power in the same city, and are still on friendly terms with each other. Each of the five has a successful business operation or other field of influence which may or may not be related to their class abilities, and they can call upon each other for assistance if they run into problems of any kind.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

Welcome to yet another glorious day in your officio station revered clerk of the Administratum.
Your efforts in compiling the information on [Vokaris Sector] and its eight subsectors have been further garnering plenty of praise from your peers and lords above your meager station, we implore you to resume your task to gather this stellar data about this sector in our glorious Imperium of Man
A brief reminder that as data comes in to your cogitator station via the servitors around you, you will have to compile it and make this sector whole again.
May the God Emperor continue to guide you clerk Anon.

Hello there, Anons of /tg/. If anyone is still interested in this fun project, here is the whole sector - updated with the discovered planets so far - where we can continue to create together, using the planet generator found on 1d6chan.

Let's see...

>Religious (Local): Planetary society has either been built around, or founded because of, a local religious sect. Or events have brought the church to the fore of all politics. This religion functions as the planet's government, and everyone must follow, or at least not bad-mouth, the religion. Depending on the religion's origins and compatibility with the Imperial Creed, it is likely to have a close eye kept on it

I wouldn't put it past them, especially if they were trying to deny planets to the eels.

Think that wraps up this world

Is there an agreed on term for a sector wide organization of Arbites? Like how a Chapter or Regiment is for Marines and Guard? All I can find is that on a planetary level it's called a Precinct, would that make the sector a department like the NYPD?

>Subordinate only to the Grand Provost Marshal, Marshals of the Court oversee galaxy-spanning precincts and coordinate the activities of Judges and Arbitrators in their jurisdiction.
Codex Imperialis, p.34-35. That one's from '93.
I imagine there's some subdivision based on precinct, district, zone, and whatever other subdivisions you want to make, in whatever order you desire. It probably varies from precinct to precinct. Check the book for further info, if you can get your hands on a pdf.

>You're either new or disingenuous
I've played every single 40K RPG, which is more t han most here can say, and been popping by this general for years.
>don't think IM can recover
It has it's core community, it'll be just fine. I've been following and playing it since release, it had a rocky start with some promises not being met but the real negativity about it was from people wanting a more crunchy system. If you don't care for that or even want something more streamlined, quicker to play it's pretty great, and we now have two faction splats and a gear book to flesh it out a bit more.

IM is... workable. A pal pulled me into a game recently, some of its stuff is streamlined from the FFG stuff in a good way (namely how stats work), some of it's streamlined in a shit way that I hate.
Wang is the skunge you find growing inside a rusty disposal. I think maybe three guys in all of time have ever played and liked it.
My heart will always belong to Rogue Trader. God, those were the days.
