>>97824423Dont worry about the actual dice before deciding how you want results to behave and people to act. Randomizers are just randomizers, so the form they take or the method doesnt matter until you have the vibe decided. For instance, if you want to encourage players taking risks, make a blackjack-style mechanic and add whatever randomizer you think will work best for you. If you want something which makes more average results, use something that creates a bell curve. Et ceteraAlso try to think about what mechanics you want to see, and what randomizers help you make that run smoothly. For example, a wargame im working on uses d12s because of how i wanted to do morale rolls (roll over [half the number of models the unit lost] plus [number of models lost this round] to avoid losing a model). I could use all sorts of dice or tweak the mechanic, but a d12 works well enough for it
>>97825022most dice nerds 1) don't play games and 2) don't have a nuanced viewpoint like you do. good job anon>>97824423i would argue that doing exotic dice resolution mechanics ( which is generally anything other than muh d20 and muh big british pile of d6s) adds complexity that you can put in a more interesting part of your game. Using a classic dice resolution mechanic also will increase your player base. This depends on what kind of game you are making too - boardgamers are more open to alternate dice than wargamers or roleplaying gamers. early in 13th age's release cycle someone asked Rob Heinz at a convention or AmA or something ' did you ever consider using something other than d20?' and his response was ' why?' and it was a correct response - he did several innovative things with the d20 that some cutting edge game like tom abbadon's icon use. i think two dice + x is bad for RPGs and good for wargames. warmahordes used 2d6+x and you could boost a roll to 3d6+x for a mana. RPGs thrive on randomness. >>97825061right wingers did not start getting called chuds until we found out what was going on in the brooklyn tunnels many years before we found out how real that meme is.

>mimimi, humans don't have their own feature, mimimi, we have to invent somethingNecromancy right here. When was the last time you saw non-human necromancer, lich or vampire? That's right, they practically don't exist because other races are simply inferior when it comes to necromancy and those non-human undead are so pathetic that everyone forgets about their existence in 5 minutes . Except for that one orc, but even he understood that he was worthless and therefore got himself a human body to finally become a full-fledged lich. So yes, here is your feature humans - necromancy, you know that I am right, you can't run away from the truth forever.

>>97816598Anon, millions of normies know what a White Walker is because GoT went mainstream. Those same normies probably have never heard the word "lich" their lives, unless their kids watched Adventure Time or something (another example of non-human undead).

>>97825399>>97825404the game was basically dead on arrivalfirst off the scale was a hugely controversial, especially because scale75 was being super shady and not up-front about what the scale should be. their first kickstarter failed because it was 35mm scale instead of 28mm heroic, and for their second kickstarter they kept the scale but just hid it better and made people think it wasn't 35mm. unfortunate for them, because whilst in 2015 their scale was controverial, nowaday those models are much closer to primaris, plus people play conquest as well, so scale is not so controversial anymorebut the second problem was fulfillment and quality, especially quality of the rules and translations. so it was a cool box to get if you just wanted the minis, but besides that the game was just confusing and badly translated, so nobody was going to play it in the long run. at this point I suppose whoever still has those minis lying around is using them to play warsurge or oprthe final issue as far as I remember was that scale75 was good at making 75mm models, but they were not so good at making 35mm models. so they showcased a lot of 75mm models as a preview of what you'd get, but then once you got the final mini it was badly translated to 35mm and looked kinda shittytoo bad

>>97826150>1999-2000 had the Camarilla fully kick them to the curb with some clever help from the setites selling radioactive blood to the sabbatReally? Guess my mental timeline's fucked. Thinking further on it: Wormwood/Anthelios would have been visible in the sky to anyone with auspex for a couple years at that point. With such a recent takeover that would amplify the paranoia about outside attacks to 11 even among nod-denialist factions. I bet the nascent Chantry would try to shift blame onto Assamites just out of spite. Any Sabbat packs still lurking in the city might pick that as an opportunity to extend what little territory they kept hold on. Hell even Anarchs might make a play.
>>97826133>Huh, someone once told me/read somewhere that horizon realms were the exception?Horizon Realms are Otherworlds. Maybe once they were more hospitable but after the Avatar Storm, the Horizon Realms are supposed to be borderline inaccessible and not longer a home away from Earth for mages, sort of like the Umbra in W5.>The second you reach arete 6 the world is giving paradox like crazy for each second you exist there. Not really. However, more powerful mages are more likely to incur more permanent Paradox as they permanently augment themselves with vulgar enhancements and create vulgar Wonders. Such mages can't afford to linger in standard consensual reality, so it's much safer to hide in a reality zone that's more tolerant of their reality deviance. The best places for such mages to hide out were Horizon Realms but with those gone, powerful mages have to choose between living exclusively in places that pander to their paradigm, avoiding any sort of permanent vulgar magic, or constantly being at risk of massive Paradox backlash.>I understand that the main attraction is the politicking and survival on Earth, but it’s like if D&D never allowed anyone to be a spellcaster.I don't think it's quite that bad. The positive side is that the lack of a personal demi-plane for archmages to run off to means that they need to be much more careful with how they conduct themselves, that Paradox will always be an issue that can't be easily circumvented. But for people who don't like that and enjoy the interdimensional gonzo side of Mage the Ascension, you can just ignore the Avatar Storm stuff in your game. M20 makes it clear that everything connected to the Avatar Storm is totally optional.
>>97826133>>97826309To sort of talk about Mage essentially being like if DnD never allowed anyone to be a spellcaster, this isn't entirely accurate but it's not also inaccurate. Sorcery is more like your traditional DnD spellcasting, Mage is like trying to be a Mage capable of 10th level magic in DnD while the Gods constantly hound you and point at you and go>No, you shall notIt's not quite to say that you cannot indeed, but rather that the level of craftsmanship, roundabouts, and sneakiness you need to really pull off the crazy Magic requires a lot more legwork from the Mage and the ST than just flat out if you are not allowed to be a spellcaster. You can't just be a gigachad fleshcrafter on Earth in broad daylight as a human lifemage but if you were to run some Resident Evil-esque biological lab deep underground who's to say that normies' poor understanding of what scientists actually do would lead to Paradox? Sure "zombies" aren't real, but if a bioweapon or something got out that did fucked up shit then oh well, it's just science or something. On the other hand if you and the ST have like no imagination, yeah it can look like DnD if no one is allowed to cast spells because the nanosecond you make a literal fireball your eyeballs burn off your head because Paradox or something. Mage at the enjoyable level probably has a bit more autistic arguments about theology, lore, media, and normies than most tables are willing or capable of imo
>>97826450>You can't just be a gigachad fleshcrafter on Earth in broad daylight as a human lifemage but if you were to run some Resident Evil-esque biological lab deep underground who's to say that normies' poor understanding of what scientists actually do would lead to Paradox? Sure "zombies" aren't real, but if a bioweapon or something got out that did fucked up shit then oh well, it's just science or something.Honestly, the Village of Resident Evil Village is a pretty great example of a localised reality zone, as is the Bakers homestead in Resident Evil 7. Two isolated, rural locations where all sorts of spooky shit can happen because it fits the local consensus, science and the rest of the world be fucked.
>>97826576Exactly, yeah you can't outright be a big dick mage but if you pick the right location, try to play tricks on the locals, and actually know what you're doing you can get away with some pretty advanced stuff that makes DnD magic look kind of like a joke. Like Necromancers in DnD are not very up there because of how limited magic is, but "necromancers" can easily pull off bone armies in MtA. The Village in particular from RE8 is probably one of the most schizoid settings in the series and it's pretty great to ape for a Mage game possibly, you have everything from a haunted romanian town getting pillaged occasionally by wolfish-men, haughty almost-vampire aristocrat cannibals, etc. The real creme de la creme is when you get to the end factory and you get to witnessed man-made horrors beyond your comprehension in some dude's very twisted psychopathic attempt at freedom in transhumanism AND his descent into maniacal aspirations of power
I always hear about the stir this caused, and recently about how bad or redeemable it is. I'm not certain about it myself because I dabbled with 3e and then got into 5e, never paid much attention to the scene during that entire era. What does /tg/ think of the system?
>>97826550Yes, and the parts that play to that strength are covered. So, back to my original question; What is missing that isn't already covered that you feel is important?
>>97778542This may be of interest to some younger anons. Or not. Some of us had just got back into D&D when 3e came out. 4e felt like it came sooner than many of us even had to time to play 3e. I think people just assume that a new edition comes out and everybody drops their life to play it but work and exams and dating get in the way. So anyhow, I blinked and 4e was out! I couldn't believe it. It felt like I had two sessions in with 3e. The same feeling was felt by a not insignificant amount of us who have been around since AD&D. I didn't hate 4e. I simply didn't have room for it. Though it did kill my enthusiasm for the brand for some time because I felt sort of left behind when I saw it happen so soon. 5e felt like it came at the right time and I'm glad people enjoyed it. It wasn't really my thing and I since moved on to games that fit my old man life better. Only sharing so some other perspective gets out there. There are a lot of people complaining about 4e that never played it. Ii guarantee you. These days though there are a lot of people praising it that also have never played it.

However, she does have a low pain tolerance compared to clan kids, and tends to avoid injuring herself even during combat. A part of her would tell herself that it's best if she goes all out during training because it's a controlled environment to prepare her for the real life and death situations, but that usually gets beat out by the part that says she would just run away if it's a real life and death situation. Those cowardly thief habits are probably being pounded out by the instructors.

If they don't they learn them. Failing to learn the rules is not considerate of the time of the GM and other people at the table. Instead of naming what they do, they should describe what they do, roll the dice (I, as the GM should be able to trust you to know your rules and not cheat... this is called high trust tables). "My hands glow blue with the holy energy of my god, shooting energy out to Anazar (Eric's character) to heal 9 points".>"Who has the fewest hitpoints?"This isn't something that a character would know. If you are trying to find who is most injured structure it in a way your character would learn this information, "I scan the battlefield for my allies to see who is most haggard" "GM: You see that Anazar is particularly wounded">"Okay eric, I'm going to cast on..."Needless mechanical description.
