Dedicated Drizzt Do'Urden EditionDiscuss and post elves. Elf lore, gameplay, and art are all appreciated.QOTT: What drove you to elves specifically?
Question about elf skillsTheir ears are good. But in what way? Do they just hear everything louder? Would suck massiv ass in an city and elves would whisper to each other in their cities.Or is it meant in a my ears can distinguish noises very good like you can count e.g. 25 gobbos by their footsteps alone through a door?Same for seeing. Is it just very sharp eyesight or can they see in the dark or whatever? Also how high can elves jump considering their are basically weightless (like in lotr) and how far can they fall until the get hurt (if they get hurt at all)
>>97224306I don't know if any systems give any bonuses to elven ears. In real life, heightened hearing means being able to listen to frequencies and tones that are above or below what most humans can hear, but typically tones that are in normal ranges are roughly the same since sound is a physical phenomenon. Here's a video to demonstrate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM4WSBZanQQ"Hearing age" is a bit of a pseudoscientific term, but it does reflect the range of noises you can detect with the naked ear and kids tend to hear higher frequencies.
>>97224585Nevermind, that video is just trash, here's a better one that doesn't literally cut the audio for engagement baithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAsMlDptjx8
Any obscure systems with good elf gameplay? I've only played mainstream RPG's (D&D, Pathfinder, WFRP, and GURPS)
>>97224306>Their ears are good. But in what way? >Do they just hear everything louder? Would suck massiv ass in an city and elves would whisper to each other in their cities.I would say yes. Larger ears would catch more noise and channel to the ear canal, meaning they would hear things as louder. (you can simulate this by cupping your ears with your hands while trying to listen to something). Also, likely, like dogs, they'd be able to pick up on frequencies of sound beyond human hearing. This is why most elves eschew city life and prefer to live in forests or other remote locales.>Or is it meant in a my ears can distinguish noises very good like you can count e.g. 25 gobbos by their footsteps alone through a door?I would say also yes. If they evolved (or were created) to have ears that collect more sounds, their brains would be similarly developed to interpret and distinguish one sound source from another.>Is it just very sharp eyesight or can they see in the dark or whatever?I like to think of them as just sharper, without any better vision in the dark than humans, barring elves that live underground. Also how high can elves jump considering their are basically weightless (like in lotr) and how far can they fall until the get hurt (if they get hurt at all)They'd have weight, just lighter of frame and better agility for landing on their feet like a cat or tucking and rolling to disperse the impact like a young (still with all their knee cartilage) parkourer?... person who does parkour.
When did Warhammer go from being a game about making themed armies in cool campaigns into being a sweatlord tournament game where people whine about balance and how your models must be Games Workshop approved with the right weapons and no kitbashing? What even happened to campaign play?
>>97196529Among friends, you wouldn't be enough of a cunt to buy a mini knowing all your mates hated SCs then try to guilt them into letting you play it. Every club I joined and every gaming group I played with banned SCs outright all the way up until around the middle of 4th edition, and even then it took a couple of years and 5th's heavy pushing of them for army building unlocks before you weren't considered a massive twat if you tried to use them outside of prearranged narrative games where they would actually be present.
>>97218765>I remember actual shouting matches between customers and staff because of price rises in the mid 90's.Then you're too old to post here. Leave.
>>97195868Go to Mutantpedia (the Warzone/Mutant Chronicles wiki). Find the issues of Chronicles From the Warzone and Chronicles magazine. You can literally watch the process happening in real time as the FAQ section progresses. It was happening at the same time (1997-1999) and roughly the same pace in 40k, Clan War, and several other games. BattleTech had the same thing start to happen a few years earlier in ~1993-1995, but a mix of brutal pushback from the rest of the community and the type of organized play events that were happening largely killed it off. Everyone agreed that tournaments were fucking cancer and consigned them to the Bloodname melees at GenCon, the other events all stayed story-related or were shits-and-giggles stuff like Masters and Minions
>>97198140>so we can't know how ruthlessly competitive they areBelieve me, there exists some unbelievably obnoxious spergs. I've witnessed a sweatlord teaching a 10 year old kid how to play and I commented to the kid that he forgot to shoot with some of his dudes. The sweatlord went "nuh uh he already passed".

For one, It's a pejorative that gets used more against /tv/ rather than /co/. Secondly, it's typically describing a piece of heroes & villains media that has some milquetoast aspects to it.So mentioning that 40k isn't capeshit because it has roots based on /co/, makes you look retarded.
Why did 5.5e drop the ball so hard? Everyone I know who likes 5e is staying with 5.0e. And more than a few of them have moved to 3.5, OSR, or other games entirely. Is WOTC just stupid?
>>97223909they have the same design ethos though
>>972244124e's sub model was hilariously successful and you'd know if you weren't getting made up infographics from PFG
>>972244894e's online tools and plans for a VTT and further products fell apart because of a murder-suicide.
>>97224529lol, you have zero info on anything that happened post release. 4e's sub model included tons of magazine style micro supplements being released all the time, feeding into the most robust character builder at the time. The online tools also served as a much better resource than the old SRDs, including easily printable monster cards that auto-calculated and scaled to level, which were also easily customizable. Every new book also fed directly into this model and so you have this vast repository of things to easily reference and create if you were subbed Like, people loved the crazy convenience of the system and it was a hell of a deal for the average guy. You don't have to like the game, but fucking know what you're talking about.

Merit ideaEducationOne dot is basic reading, writing and math for languages you speakTwo dots is for nobility and higher status individualsThree dots is a high class education typically given to Dynasts or royaltyWhen making a Lore roll, you can substitute your rating in the Merit in place of the Lore ratingIf you want your Dynast or royalty to be a bad student or dumb you can voluntarily have a lower Education rating
>>97224338That's a Lore specialty
>>97224338Yeah, that's just Lore more or less
>>97224353>>97224370I mean for this more to be of general knowledge, when you take Lore you have to specify the subject of it, which for example if you pick mathematics apparently means that apparently you weren't taught much of anything else even if you were raised a noble. Which bugs me.
>>97224545In a very short lived modern game, secondary school was a valid lore specialty allowed for players who wanted it. This is basically the same thing. As long as it's akin to a knowledge check in D&D and not something, for example about protocol that would need a Socialize roll, I think 'Dynastic education' is a fine Lore specialty to cover this. You're not an expert in a field and you probably can't teach a class on advanced economics, but you could be a substitute at a realm middle school for a couple of days or win at Scarlet Empire are you smarter than a 5th grader.

With Ai you can plan your paint schemes easily :)
>>97222395Not covered in the 2004 Chapter Approved CSM codex FAQ, but I'd say no on account of being a monstrous creature rules wise, with the option of yes if you and your opponent aren't going to get shitty about it and can reasonably talk your way through rules disputes because a daemon prince surrounded by a retinue looks cool. I don't think it was ever done in a battle report if that helps.

It's funny that Nicolai and the Falcon's Claws are one of the few ways to make clanner yourdudes without them going rogue. They're an independent cluster operating by the authority of a galaxy commander to do whatever he wants them to do with little concern for what the rest of the galaxy or clan is doing, and they get their own paint scheme.

>>97216230

>>97210942BVILT FOR BIG BLOODTHIRSTER COCK
The emperor being immortal and responsible for humanity's progress since pre-history is spin written by a fanatical church. He wasn't 10 feet tall, the most powerful psyker ever etc. that's just how his legend has grown over the 10k years since he fell.Next you'll act like the primarchs were actually his "sons" and not just warlords he recruited and put in charge of the legions during the crusades. Probably with some obviously bullshit, overly complex backstory involving teleportation and time dilation to explain the hundreds of years difference in ages of some of them.

>>97224160Do you still not get that a game is a set of rules to resolve challenges for player skill and luck, and anything not in service to the resolution and restrictions engaging with those challenges is unnecessary to a game? You go on about "story", but you don't need story to challenge a player. Stories are for comics, film, novels, television shows, and other non-interactive media. Games are interactive media, meant to entertain through their challenges; any time you take away from working towards resolving those challenges is time you take away from playing the game. The only story necessary to games is what's directly relevant to playing them.If you need mommy to tell you a bedtime story to get you to move your miniatures around, that's fine for you, but don't project that onto what games are.

I can't believe I actually did it.My most recent game of Hansa Teutonica was actually ended by filling up 10 trading posts. 3 players, base map. We weren't even trying for it, we played for another 4-5 turns before someone said "Hey you should check how many of those cities are full". Do I win an award or something?
2nd time on Planto and I can see more of where "Loyang the Dice game" was the foundation and should have remain because this is just an absolute mess of a game. Almost audacious even in how little regard it has to table space, plausible but still unnecessary subsystems, and pasted on theme. I don't hate it, but I think the only pull back to it is to marvel at how this game ended up in this state and what the fuck they were going for besides "look I can do 30 things in a single turn that amount in uhh 6 VP"
