Should casters be able to hold their own in a fight, or should they be balanced around requiring protection from martial classes?

Wow, thanks for another inane one-line survey thread with your dog shit commissions attached, puckee!

Seriously why do you do this? Is it to make the website look more palatable for advertisers? Because we all know you are mod protected, typing out your full name is filtered

How difficult do you think it is to be able to reuse reverse image search and then look at the 4chan archive?

>Bro you're weird what a weird hobby
Appeal to triviality is a common tactic used by those who are trying to discredit any type of discussion of a subject.
The fact that this doesn't take any effort or time at all to call out this bullshit, says a lot about you.
>>
>>97831141
Depends on the caster.

>How difficult do you think it is
No idea, never looked into it, because I don't give enough of a fuck. The weird thing is that you do. There isn't anything deeper to it.

This
Casters should have a theme and if being able to defend themselves fits the theme they should be able to do that, and if it doesn't they shouldn't
If your caster is a magical scholar of some sort like a wizard, then no they shouldn't be able to throw a punch better than any other nerd. That's not part of the theme of being a wizard. Other themes like a sci-fi technomancer, or an alchemist, or a magical deal-maker or summoner, or a seer or oracle, or a magical performer or bard, or a religious scholar or cleric, or a necromancer, also should not being able to defend themselves. That's not part of what their theme is, even if some of these thematic casters get to defend themselves in DnD logically speaking they shouldn't. They might have spells to defend themselves but frankly some of these like the cleric, bard, oracle, or alchemist should not be combat classes with any offensive magic at all.
If your caster is some sort of cultivator or magic martial artist or element-bender, if they're some sort of crusading zealot with a god's blessing, if they're some sort of animist or shapeshifter or shaman with a martial bent then yes they should be able to defend themselves.
But frankly, TTRPGs need less of a combat focus and more classes which are entirely non-combat.

7 sprues like that one for around 70 bucks is not that bad. 40k Predator is $80.

Would the Beastmen race from Warhammer Fantasy, The Old World and Age of Sigmar been more popular if they were instead a Beastwomen race where the purpose of their raids is forcing human and elven males to breed with them?
>>
It would attract a different audience but I highly doubt they would end up being more popular, people who like monstergirls might now care for a game where the whole point is that they die in large numbers.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

Anyone focus on glass as an important industry in their setting?

Pretty sure for a lot of the west and Italy and Venice in particular, Glassmaking was an important and highly exported product. Often being highly covetted in places like China in a way that Fine china ceramics were coveted in Europe.

I always thought that it might be interesting to make a european inspired place the "foreign and exotic location where you get luxery goods" If you are in a non european inspired place like if it is more Arabian, Southeast Asian, or Japanese. Think I got the idea in part when I was playing Scarlet Heros which has some more southeast asian derived settings.

If you want to go for something more magical maybe stained glass windows and fine crystal wineglasses that vibrate and hum with magic but will shatter if the magic is not kept in check could be a cool idea. Or maybe you are a glass blower that literally blows in the breath of life to animate glass objects. Glass has a lot of interesting potentials.

Think I got the idea in part when I was playing Scarlet Heros which has some more southeast asian derived settings.

The issue I see with this is that the East having all these exotic goods wasn't just a coincidence, it's way more likely that tropical countries are going to have valuable goods than a northern temperate climate. For example if we assume that there's a one in a hundred chance any given plant will produce a useful spice/dye/medicine/whatever, you're way more likely to find it somewhere like Indonesia which has over 28K species of plants than Britain which has only around 1K (Indonesia being an archipelago also helps a lot here compared to somewhere like Africa since it creates more endemism). This is why all the fancy spices and dyes came from places like India, Indonesia, and China and not Europe. Also there's animal-based goods like silk, ivory, pearls, animal skins, etc to consider as well.

Of course not all goods are as ecologically related, like minerals or some manufactured ones like glass that you mentioned, but it's still important to consider because unless you're setting your not-Europe in the jungle they'd probably still need to have a trading relationship with some exotic tropical region to get certain goods.
>>
>>97835681
Fair enough. It wont be exotic in the "same way" as warmer and more bio-diverse climates are to europe.

I wasnt trying to imply that the not-europe would ONLY export exotic stuff, just that some of the stuff they do export would seem exotic in a non-European inspired main location.

ON the topic of glass and silk, I also find it interesting that glass making processes were also jealously guarded just like how silk making processes were in the east. The Venetians being an obvious example, but later on I believe there was like only one small German state that had the knowledge to make the finest telescope lenses and people from all over europe bought them and tried to get the secret. European telescopes more broadly meant were also another major luxury export across the globe.

It's just something that exist in the background.
It isn't a focus in my setting.

There are some fairly advanced applications of glass, like it being a information storage medium, but that is because the tech level of my setting is intentionally all over the place.

Management is a niche compared to just adventuring and doing cool things. I like strategy and management games but even I am not sure I would enjoy such a playstyle right after work.

Long time MtG player (17 years?) and with what's happening to the game rn, i don't really have much interest in any of the new sets.

Sorcery looks like it could maybe scratch that itch. The art is fantastic and reminds me of legacy MtG art. Anybody here play?

I watched a few overview vids, but I'm curious how the actual gameplay goes.

For someone who plays mostly EDH, are there any similarities?

Is it usually a 2 player match?
How long are the matches usually?

Is it as much of a money pit as MtG?

Convinced a few of my MtG friends to give it a shot based off of the art alone. Just need an idea of what I'm up against in terms of learning curve.

>>
>>97836873
I would criciticize the contradiction to want tools to help you make something unexpected but I dont really know how these world building books work.

Personally I do it by thinking up a setting I would like then shaping it so that individual actions matter, usually by having something horrible happen. Basically, for ttrpg settings to work you need a setting where players cant just call the cops or the national guard or any sort of aid. No one is coming so they have to solve the problems themselves. Apocalypse or government failures are good ones.

I heard ChatGPT was a decent enough solo DM experience and I decided to try it

>generic human fighter whose job was to guard a princess but failed
>first session starts alright, fought some water soaked zombies and found the princess
>couple of more sessions in there's a global level system which dictates which reality is true and uses human anchors in case it can't stabilize a location
>another couple of sessions in I am now arguing logics with ChatGPT because I got some superpower which lets me create point and relationships between them
>end up this first arc building a system where synthetical ancors replace human anchors and it took me a while to cover all edge cases
>this is at level 4
>explicitly say I do not want to deal with this stuff anymore
>ChatGPT: "You're totally right!" ;^)
>next arc is about a network of reality bending doors in which couriers must transport fragments of reality from door to door to keep the reality in check
>the only way I could disrupt this was by PLACING FUCKING STEPPING STONES IN AN IRREGULAR BUT NON-OBVIOUS WAY
>my fucking god
>write explicity multiple times in the source of the project to not have any other reality bending stuff and all that happened earlier was an exception
>ChatGPT: "You're absolutely right!" ;^)

Could you give mode information? Did you tell it to make an acid trip of a system or was that suddenly out of the blue?
>>
>>97837667
Apparently it was because of how I was messing with it. It started from:
>a basin holding water which can be interacted with a rod
>some wells also do similar things
>actually these things are nodes and they can become unstable and create logically breaking visible patterns, and they can kill you
>actually nodes are everywhere but as you are literally going against this system you can just sit in an unstable zone and fix it
>after some training you can create points and relationship between them but beware they're pretty much computer programming but more complex
>actually now I'll give you what's essenstially moderator privileges over the system after you interacted with something the NPCs told you specifically not to

The only somewhat fun part was teasing the princess as for some reason she was affected by this system and me going against it made her stabilize if I was close to her, bed included

We don't know but I wouldn't put it past them. Honestly, given their advanced tech, especially when it comes to the Dark Eldar, it would make sense that they could just alter their skin color to suit their tastes. However, again, lorewise they have been consistently described as pale skinned, with Dark Eldar being often described as being exteremely pale and almost corpse like in their skin color.

Writing General: 'psychopomps' edition

Welcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product.

As the successor to the Storythreads, we're also open to /tg/ related fanfiction (D&D, Warhammer, Battletech, whatever). In fact, if you've written any vaguely /tg/-related short stories, you can try them out here. We also have flash-fiction challenges from time to time.

There's a discord for writers here

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Ah, right. I think I was getting it mixed up with the rules where you used to be able to Overrun as part of a Charge as well. No attacks for the horse then, unless you manage to line up a shot where he does a ride-by on one player then ends up next to another one for the horse to attack/Bull Rush.

Those are a bit weak on the scale of Nymph's kiss or even the niche power of Lichloved.
>what's the fey banger feat called?
Nymph's Kiss it's unfortunately Exalted ad needs you to keep the relationship going (And Fey tend to be fickle with even the good ones pulling you into the occasional mean prank that might cost you your Exalted status)

These are usually very powerful feats, Lichloved is fairly niche but strong in that niche, while Nymph's kiss is just mondo strong.
Fey creatures regard you as though you were fey. You gain a +2 circumstance bonus on all Charisma-related checks, and a +1 bonus on all saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities. Starting with the level when you take this feat, you gain 1 extra skill point per level.

Nice as a starter.

I like the idea of a "Gotta fuck em all' playthough where there's a separate track without nonsex prereqs (And players possibly start with one or two) just to get crazy.

I was intentionally picking weak ones that a DM might be convinced to throw your way as a free feat for role playing in a standard game.

If you want to have a 'Gotta fuck em all' game centered around the theme I would suggest that you don't pigeon hole every creature with an exact line of feats but come up with a generic system.

I have one like that from a lewd themed game I planned out but never got to run.The gist was, some goddess blessed PCs as her champions and granted them an ability to copy aspects of the girls they slept with.
For every creature of a given species one sleeps with, gets a cumulative +1% chance to copy one of their feats / abilities / skills at random. Once copied from a given species, can't copy anything more from them, have to look for others.

The cost of this was that a PC who accepted being a champion of that goddess, couldn't get anything except class abilities by any other means, took massive penalties against any kind of seduction/mind control and monster girls could drain his magic abilities through sex. That last one was to intentionally sabotage spell caster classes, since in this game, martials couldn't make any proper builds.

Entirely fair.

My idea was to have em be powerful but to throw higher CRs at them.(System would be a bit of a restricted Gestalt too so they're already OP whis just helps even it out)

and yet there's no feat that a dragon or lich can take that lets them debase themselves to the point they'll fuck a human
