>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.

The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

>Examples of companies providing rules and/or miniatures for alternative wargames.

An epic high-flying role-playing game about reborn god-heroes in a world that turned on them.
Start here:http://theonyxpath.com/category/worlds/exalted/

Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial:http://mengtzu.github.io/exalted/sakuya.html
It’ll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

Not from Scratch but I've designed a Solar Dragon as a socerous-working-forged familiar/mount. Used the Sky Titan as a baseline for flying mount then added in bits from other critters like the Tidemare's ability to serve as mass transit, and a custom breath attack.

They unironically think of martials as being for new players.
>>
>>97825172
The Hellknight feels like an interesting concept with a Fighter focusing on damage over time, but it really just ends up being X uses of Searing Smite per day.

Especially when they already introduced a Burning condition in the 2024 PHB. Why couldn't the subclass be 'When you deal Fire damage with your Hellfire weapon, the creature you hit starts Burning'.
1d4 damage wouldn't be anything special, but it also means that the creature has to use an action to drop prone to extinguish themselves instead, doesn't have a capped duration, and can't cure it just by regaining hitpoints.
>>
>>97825212
>>97825239
>The cleric can spend a minute passively building up exhaustion on enemies and then if they die gets to blow them up and deal 3d6 damage to everything around them (of your choice) a number of times equal to their primary stat
>The fighter gets to add 1d6 once per turn a number of times equal to their secondary stat to apply a debuff that can be ended by any healing or a single action, but if you get lucky and roll a 6 it can also explode for a handful of damage (which can hurt yourself/allies)
What were they thinking lmao
>>
>>97813902
Would giving martials Musou-like attack ranges help bridge the divide with casters at higher levels? Basically multiply the range of melee attacks by their proficiency bonus and make all the attacks cones that cleave every other enemy in the area for partial damage. Flavor it as sword beams, air pressure from the strength of your swings, whatever. Ranged attacks instead just get a % increase in range = 10x the prof bonus or something.
>>
>>97825321
Debatable. It helps out their damage against groups of enemies, but at the same time even a 20-30 foot cone can be awkward to catch more than a few enemies in depending on the size of the space.
It certainly wouldn't hurt though.
I'd also say for ranged attacks you could have it be a line attack instead, piercing through enemies until it hits some solid cover.

The /btg/ is dead! Long live the /btg/!

It's.... a thing. Not particularly good. The Cappellans at last get back to their role of mooks being easily killed by the protagonist du jour, but the author clearly want you to root for the "new SLDF" that's Clan but not Clan and all the reasonable and good people are in there and things and stuff
The problem is that everyone wants to see Alaric to fail and Wolf to get destroyed so a book focused on setting them up is kinda boring
>>

I genuinely really liked the RotS so anything involving the Wolves, Ilclan or a Terra ruled by the genetic freaks from the Pentagon Worlds is immediately haram in my eyes.
Thus, I must say it is bad.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

How about making them two seperate entities, but both thinking they're the same.
Like the worship created an entirely new goddess in the image of Aretta with all her memories, while the old Aretta still remains in her afterlife.
Like how Heracles in Greek Mythology after death became both a god of Olympus, while his mortal self remained in the underworld to be later visited by Odysseus.
Or how in DC Swamp Thing was originally believed to be the scientist Alec Holland turned into a monster by weird chemicals and a weird swamp, but then it turned out that Alec Holland died in the swamp and the chemicals gave birth to a new creature with all of Alec Holland's memories(the monster also ended up being the planetary avatar of all plant life).

How would you make machines that are not built for military use dangerous enough that they can't be steam rolled right away?

So far the idea I'm going with is the majority of an invading alien force is that they primarily work on resource extraction and ignore things until they get in their way. Human shooting at them would obviously constitute this.

My initial thinking is that they would adapt some of their tools or make impromtu weapons to defend themselves and keep the Humans at bay like giants swinging trees around or something.

I guess what I'm asking is what else can I have them do to be dangerous and prolonge the fight? It's suppose to be a conflict that lasts 15+ years for Humans to finally kick them off of Earth before going out into the Solar system to deal with them else where (and keep adapting their technology).

>Most /awg/ are low cost skirmish games where you
never find anyone to play with. That is the sad truth, and that is why there is no universal truth to questions like in the OP, because it varies from region to region, from town to town. Here people play Bolt Action a lot, somewhere else, you either have 15mm ww2 stuff because the scene is playing FoW, or you won't play ww2.
Here might be a group doing frostgrave campaigns, somewhere else might be a strong necromunda club..
That's why one always should get in contact with whoever is playing locally, and see what it is they play. And then decide if those games look or sound fun.

I really love hex tile games so I made one where cities are dice (to represent the size) and you draw tiles from a random bag like Carcassonne and place them according to rules (like you have to contribute to existing forests or mountain ranges on the edge until they're a certain size, before you can start a new one).

The game was very visually and tactilely satisfying to me, which is important since it's being played in the physical realm. But the girls, as you can see, are a bit small. So I bought new ones.

I haven't painted them yet but I am hoping to add some numbers to them, almost like Catan has.

So therein lies my question (and I know I'm leaving a lot of details out, this game is very different from Catan, but it's basically a 4x tabletop hex tile game). My question being:

Do people actually like rolling dice in Catan? I think in Catan it's a very elegant way of adding depth to the game.

Currently in my game, you roll 1d6 per population of a city, and for each 5 you roll you can get a resource of the tile your city's on, and for each 6 you can get that or an adjacent resource. But that leads to a lot of dice rolling. By the end game you might be rolling 10 pools of dice each with 6 dice, and making decisions along the way.

So obviously I want to simplify it.

But the question is, do people even like the dice rolling in Catan? Or would they rather the randomness be removed from it?

I would play the shit out of this, also being a hex tile placement enjoyer since Gamrauders.
The dice rolling is acceptable enough as long as it's not the main focus. You might be able to substitute tile draw for the randomization element.

Best hex tile game I've played in ages is called Cascadia, very clever, might not hurt to check it out.
