The Enhanced Reflexes chaotic trait is good because Warriors are already good and ensorcelled S4 hand weapons are killier than S3 spears even with the extra rank. And not to mention that in this case the Warriors are also tankier because they get to use parry. My question was never "is initiative actually good", it was "is the extra 1 initiative that elves get actually helping them", because as far as I can tell the answer is not really. It's one of the worst racial traits imo. But this is all a gut feeling from games that I've played and I've not actually looked at any raw numbers that prove or disprove me so I'd rather ask around for more opinions.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

There's a few once you filter out all the ones where the relevant data is incoherent ass-pulls it's a lot less. Practically the book is most useful for vehicle weapons, which is a bit too bitterly ironic for me desu. It does at least future proof the setting for any new small arms weapon developments.
>>
>>97259673
>the setting
The system I mean
>>
>>97259673
Do you really need that, though? Accuracy, weight and bulk are a non-issue. Range too, you can use the listed one and even then, being wrong by a couple hundred yards won't really matter. Damage I guess would be useful, but you already have tons of guns as reference and you just base the new gun performance on that.
>>
>>97259757
>Do you really need that, though?

I mean if you want to use the gun stats book then yes since it wants you to have all that. Just using the nearest HT weapon and adjusting as necessary is what was already being done (and my preferred route) and it works fine for small arms but it's nice to have a formula to get a consistant, generally agreed on baseline for any new small arms I guess.
>>
>>97259510
It's a really good technique for double barrels, but any tube fed shotgun and most revolvers benefit from it as well.

>the player is not their character
You struggle a lot with the word "imagination" don't you? It is not a synonym for "reality". When you assume the role of a make believe character, you don't become that character. You are merely imagining that you are that character. It is playing pretend. And a voice actor isn't a "tranny" because they're voicing a character of a different gender. A player isn't one because they're playing a character of a different gender. You claimed that pretending to be a woman is indicative of heterosexuality. It seems you think I accused you of being transexual. I didn't. Do people call you transexual often?

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

It is not the values of the abilities. It is in the descriptions. In AD&D 1e, Hide in Shadows the character does not move, in OSRIC 3.0 the character can half move. The same for Move Silently, in the 1e the character can move the full move, and in OSRIC 3.0 only half move. There is no reason for these changes. And this is only the changes I know, there is probably more
>>
>>97259479
>There is no reason for these changes.
Besides Matt being a dick, you mean?
>>
>>97259479
>>97259639
The Hide in Shadows change looks related to the Combat Backstab interpretation, if you can't move how the fuck are you backstabbing and since you now CAN move while in hiding, they probably nerfed the Move Quietly to make it fair.

But fuck if I know for sure and I'm not getting paid for defending whatever stupid shit Finch et al thought cute to play with so whatever.
>>
>>97259820
Hide in Shadows isn't a requisite for a successful backstab, however.
>>
>>97259820

This is funny, because Gygax in the DMG says the Hide in Shadows (in OSRIC only Hide) is one of the most abused ability by players. What Finch do? Make the ability more powerful

The game has similar art for the card in each suit used in each players' starter deck. It doesn't show up elsewhere in the game though. The non-starter cards are knickknacks instead of animals. Also, you can put your starter cards into your scoring area which, thematically, is merchandise you're selling.

Beyond that and the big three I think OP is the only other one that's localised, but I'd have to check. They're certainly the only ones I see front and centre at my LGS at least. Apparently SWU also gets localised; not surprising given it's also Disney.

There is a gallery for the new version at aquarian-age.org but for older stuff the only thing I found is imadokicollection.it which have some galleries with cards in it, but I have no idea how the fuck to navigate that site as it's outdated as fuck.
Maybe the anon that posted it first is still around

That does make sense, but I think even before Disney bought Star Wars, it was popular enough to be localized all over the world... probably *why* Disney bought them.

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

I'm currently undertaking the task of training a novice, she'g got a lot of potential but I'm not quite sure of her commitment. I need to gove her a real target and I can't think a suitable one. I was going to task her with staking a weak vampire - day time, no one else in there with it, we'll be shadowing her throughout. Now that I'm thinking about it, a ghoul could be a better pick, she could bring it in alive and show me if she's ready to learn a few interrogation techniques. Any thoughts?
>>
>>97259009
There's a lot that can go wrong with a sleeping vampire. We all hear the stories of one that sleeps through its own execution, or just like in a movie only wakes up the moment the stake goes through its heart, but let me tell you that's not always the case. I dunno if it's a matter of will or age, but sometimes they wake up and fight back. They're still sluggish, relatively speaking anyway, they seem fatigued, but a fatigued vampire can still kill.

Personally, I think you're asking for something to go wrong the way you're going about this. Being given a weapon and told "hey kill this thing, we'll be following you we swear, you just won't see us" isn't going to engender much faith in you guys if you're concerned she's wishy washy. Not to mention, if you're far enough away to not be seen, you're too far away to save her if you grossly underestimated her quarry, or even if something else goes horribly wrong. Better to hunt alongside her as an encouraging mentor so you can protect her if something goes wrong. But insist she finish the creature off, like an initiation of sorts.

Also, when you say ghoul, what do you mean? Like straight up flesh eating cannibal monster people?
>>
>>97259009
Ghosts are a lot less lethal, & if botched, doesnt leave a real person hunting you & your family down. Send her into a haunted house for the night, make sure to put a ward in there so she can hind in it if things go too far sideways. Worse outcome is that she's torn apart & unable to defend herself or get to the ward. Worst outcome of poking a bloodsucker nest is she gets turned, all her family & friends get killed, & your cell get compromised.
>>
>>97259009
Do you even live in an area with such enemies? Go with what's available and barring that something small. Hauntings could be ghosts, minor spirits or demons. Something relatively non-human and/or dead that'll help the justification.
>>
>>97259383
I know the dangers of vampires, they're no easy targets. I've been preparing her for a while, teaching her everything from firearms handling and homemade explosives to exorcism rituals and surveillance so I hope she'll manage it. I'm interested in seeing how she behaves or a real assignment, a pile of ash is a pile of ash (or a stiff), doesn't matter how she does it. Of course, I'll have someone really close, someone she has never seen before and won't have a reason to suspect. To answer your question - ghouls are slaves to the vampire, doing their master's dirty work. They consume the tainted blood of a vampire in return for a fraction of it's power. They don't die to sunlight or any other vampire-specific weakness, bullets and fire still work. I was considering them because they could be easier to capture (in theory) but they're still human, I don't know if she's ready for dealing with that yet.

A holy ward is never a bad idea but everyone who's capable of performing such miracles is either too far away or unable to help. I'm not really a specialist when it comes to hauntings, I know the basic methods of dealing with spooks but I'm not confident in sending her to deal with something I'm not that experienced with.
>she gets turned, all her family & friends get killed, & your cell get compromised.
I hope not, I'd be a shame to lose such a promising recruit. That's also the reason she's being kept in the dark for now.

Plenty of vampires in big cities. They're inhuman enough to justify killing, all these silly folk tales and legens do wonders. I've mad sure it's a weak one, been watching it for 2 weeks. Still following the same routine, trying to blend in with humans. They're great actors, pretending to care about their "family" and such, even when no one is looking. These ones are usually the weakes when it comes to my and my friends experience.
