Howdy, I'm looking to maybe get into a WW2 dogfighting game with my fiance. We are looking at wings of glory and blood red skies. What exactly am I looking at for each, and which would you personally recommend and why? I'm open to suggestions

>Miao Ying won first place for specialist gamesCathay Numbah Wan
>>97259226sky lantern getting #5 place is wierder desu.
>>97259243It’s a cool model, it helps that the dudes in it have different outfits from the rest of Cathay, which helps Cathay feel bigger. Shame it costs so much, but that can’t be helped it seems.
>>97259047It feels good but I'm not sure the actual maths add up. If something is charging your spearmen with great weapons, there's a chance that they are going to tank the hits and slice them to pieces.
>>97259487I should clarify, by "always" I mean when they charge you in the flank and rear. Your thrusting spears already give you +1 I if you get charged in the front, which is a whole separate thing that lets you fight before anything with I3, which is also very powerful. That being said, the math does add up and it still matters. Every model you kill before it gets to attack is one less attack against your spearmen. They can't slice your elves up if they're dead, anon. This is why the Enhanced Reflexes chaotic trait is so good and it's why Elven Reflexes is so good too. You already know this, but you get to attack with three ranks of elves when your spearmen get charged. Even at S3, that's triple the amount of attacks the unit charging your spearmen (provided they have the same frontage, don't have frenzy, and are also A1) will be getting. They're not going to want the smoke, so to speak, anon.
The DM reveals that all this time, the 'Chaotic Evil invading soldiers' you've been fighting and slaughtering were actually Lawful Good innocent untrained peasants. They were tricked/convinced into believing they were fighting for survival and defense of their impoverished homeland.THE PALADIN FALLS AND LOSES ALL POWERS!!!Do you feel like a hero yet?
>>97258649They are free to throw down their arms and surrender. Hell, I'll even send a messenger after the first few slaughters saying as much. If they literally shoot the messenger though... yeah no quarter.
>>97259083beside the obvious opportunity to surrender (as op said, we are slaugthering them), this scenario also assumes we never took prisoners and no battle ever had any surviving foes who could be questioned. So the big, shocking reveal naturally would have happened rather early in the war anyways.
>>97252494I show the DM page 18 of the PHB and tell him that tricking a paladin to UNKNOWINGLY perform an evil or chaotic act has no effect on his status. The Paladin has to CHOOSE to act chaotic/evil to loose his status, not tricked with a shitty 'gotcha'. Get fucked OP, you unread thread baiting moron.
>>97253432the greatest irony of spec ops even at the time of the game's release you still did arguably worse war crimes in call of duty.
>The DM reveals that all this time, the 'Chaotic Evil invading soldiers' you've been fighting and slaughtering were actually Lawful Good innocent untrained peasants. They were tricked/convinced into believing they were fighting for survival and defense of their impoverished homeland.Get this, wars aren’t fought by the “good guys” and the “bad guys.” You think the Wehrmacht soldier is gonna be a carbon copy of Hitler? That the ruskie grunt is gonna be the mental extension of Putin? The child soldier in Africa is as wicked as the warlord that conscripted him? That’s a luxury of delusion that you can only achieve through severe apathy and laziness of the soul. Most of the people you will kill in war are gonna be good people. If you can’t accept that you won’t be able to live with it afterwards. In terms of a TTRPG it can be assumed the player characters are seasoned and capable soldiers for convenience of writing and roleplaying. Having the Paladin fall for what is essentially his job is stupid. Trying to make the players feel bad for probably the most basic of war horror takes is stupid. Get better at hypotheticals.

>>97259169Set created the first big name Bane Mummies. They're mummies, but full of Wyrmshit! This makes them stronger but also borderline nonfunctional because they're all crazy weirdos and gross. At some point someone found a way to create lesser Bane Mummies. By default they only have 4 respawns but can get more by devouring the organs of real mummies, which I think may be one of the few ways to genuinely permakill a moomer. There's also a knock-off of the knock-off where some Setites shoved a bane inside a corpse via a Sorcery path. They're like Bane Zombies more than anything else.

My collection of the hombrew Legacies from the OP forums is at 40-something and counting, but I gotta share how hilarious it is that so far we're at zero for traditional Necromancer legacies: no corpse raising, ghost binding, nothing. Closest thing is a couple doctor Frankenstein adjacent ones, but they are more into making Life abominations or cyborgs than zombie hordes. On the opposite end I've got at last for different flavors of alchemist/chemist Moros legacies.Kinda makes me want to actually make one myself once I'm done with this project.
>>97259182Whats that? Egyptian myth has a bunch of animal headed gods just like the Fera from werewolf? Lets ignore that & not do anything with it! There's no way giving Mummies even more connections to the Silent Stiders or anything like that would be interesting!

>>97259257NTA, but I think that falls under misjudging a build. I wouldn't put it so harshly, but I also had some times where I could tell a build would drag down every writefag they were in and that's exactly what happened. I won't give examples because I'm not here to make anyone feel bad. Does anyone have a more positive topic?
>>97259248Well, it’s hard to think of just one, but I’m talking about story concepts, not necessarily the choices included in the build. For example, Kenji and Kohaku are yanderes for their Idolons, which means they’re instantly at odds with the good guys in JITE. That’s cool, because they might not start out as specifically cruel people, but they are led towards evil because of these circumstances. Yeah, at the end of the day what they do in writefags is what matters most, but that kind of character already has their foot in the door for me. Same thing with Chizi and Ming, for example: they’re basically the same character concept, but reversed, and they’re at odds with each other immediately. >>97259268Oh no, that’s not what I meant at all. What I’m trying to say is, I can look at a concept and be like “oh that’s cool, can’t wait to see what happens with this guy”, but if nothing happens it’s all for naught.
>>97259307>I also had some times where I could tell a build would drag down every writefag they were in and that's exactly what happened.I never had that feeling about a build, unless it was clearly a shitpost. And I never got the feeling a writefag was worse for having a build in it. Nta.
I tend to fraud when I get the feeling no one actually likes my build. I'll be writing and I I'll suddenly realize that I don I don't think anyone actually wants to read this besides me.
I tend to be inspired to write in response to other people writing about my character.

>>97258288Very quick overview cause I'm busy:You spend thrust in the 1st hex of your movement that turn. Your starting Velocity is 2, and you're at Altitude 3. You have a current SI of 7. You want to increase your speed to Velocity 9, and increase Altitude to 6. 9-2= 7, so you spend 7 Thrust in that hex to increase Velocity. Then you also have to spend thrust in that hex to increase Altitude, but that difference is going to mean that you spent more thrust in that hex 7+anything = greater than 7, so you would have spent more thrust in that hex than your current SI. This means you have a chance of damaging your airframe through the maneuver, thus the check.

Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>97257499>>97257940I've compared the thief skill tables in PHB and OSRIC and looks like your typical +1/-1 change in numbers so both tables don't look the same. Labyrinth Lord did the same with the B/X thief abilities, so nothing new there. After reading the new player's guide the only things I'm not all that happy about are the Monk class (for fuck's sake Matt) and using Ancestries rather than Races. All in all I'm cool with it, AD&D + AAC is something I've been waiting ages for.
>>97259371It is not the values of the abilities. It is in the descriptions. In AD&D 1e, Hide in Shadows the character does not move, in OSRIC 3.0 the character can half move. The same for Move Silently, in the 1e the character can move the full move, and in OSRIC 3.0 only half move. There is no reason for these changes. And this is only the changes I know, there is probably more

>>97253256>>97257427We've got a whole board of TTRPG nerds and nobody gets the appeal of theorycrafting characters? It scratches two itches; first you get to immerse yourself in a setting and come up with a cool OC that's unique to you; and secondly you're doing a little puzzle with character points, requirements, and the like.I think of it as extremely 4chan, because it's so touch-and-go. You're not committing to join some group when you decide to play a cyoa, you just do a build and throw it out there to compare with other anons. It's something personal like a TTRPG character, but only asks as much time and dedication as you're willing to give it.

>Halflings to do the farming>Dwarves to do the smithing and mining>Gnomes to do the researching>Elves to do magic>Humans to do the fighting (and thus, the ruling)This seems the obvious perfect order to things. Humans don't want to be the peasant farmers, we want to be the knights and lords, but somebody has to farm, somebody has to smith, etc. Why not have the other races do the menial peasant stuff that they specialize in anyways?
>>97256017That brings us to the next problem: plowing is hard work, it’s such hard work that women don’t do it, and human women are stronger than halfling men. Using halflings as farmers will decrease yields, which in turn will lower the surplus that the human ruling class depends on. Consequently, human landowners are strongly incentivized to use human labour for productivity reasons.
