A thread for everything Dragons. What is the best kind of Dragons for a game. Just the standard, firebreathing scally Dragon? Or is it better for a game to give your players variety?

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!Last thread: >>97665641Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: pastee.dev/p/sp2Mdb5Ihttps://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator/wbi/: https://discord.gg/6ZjEc7dy4TWorldbuilding Hub: https://discord.com/invite/wGjxK3YThe Writer's Forge: https://discord.com/invite/CUxHxWqTira: https://discord.com/invite/f52W6KgDawn of Victory: https://discord.gg/hUAynC3wConlangerama: https://discord.com/invite/ceKjZBr2jCComment too long. >>97826060>Any good ways to explain the difference between a mortal and a monster in your fantasy setting?I have three different types of soul, the aetheric soul of mortals, the elemental animus of elementals (elementals that have become self aware/distinct "races" essentially) and I forgot what I called the liminal/fae version. So "monsters" would be different from mortals on a fundamental level. Although mortals can become corrupted or otherwise changed into monstrous forms so I guess the distinction isn't so clear cut in all scenarios.
What are your in world slurs? Do elves call dwarfs diggers?
>>97827264Race based slurs aren't really impactful or all that insulting/offensive in my setting. Like the Blooded might refer to "lesser" peoples as stock (as in livestock, you know, because they literally feed off them or use them for their utility). But people are generally more concerned with what the blooded do, not what they say. There are still stories from before the Apex was revived, when powerful blooded did whatever they pleased in their domain, including horrific fleshcrafting and unethical experimentation. So just being referred to with dehumanizing language is basically nothing. Fera will refer to humans as hairless or baldies, since fera are covered in body hair. But it's generally seen as a childish insult with no real impact or venom behind it.Lizardmen will occasionally call the other races apes, but again there is no bite behind it.People got more serious shit to deal with then fantasy racism. Hell, to the people in Centennial, comments about piss and shit are FAR more offensive to them.Meanwhile to the people of Soul, blasphemy in general and especially blasphemy against their main god Sol, are fighting words that will get you killed. They have zero tolerance for it.
>>97822512What kind of stories are you looking to tell or games you want to play?Let your narrative or design goals inform and influence your worldbuilding. For example the whole ecology of magic in my setting is designed from the ground up to be a ongoing conflict motivator that ties directly into why monster filled dungeons exist and are actually a good thing, as well as always giving a reason to go out into the dangerous wilds since it's highly lucrative to those who can consistently survive.
>>97784855>Do you use any lesser-known mythologies, histories, or regions as inspiration? If so, which ones, and what appeals to you about them?Hinduism. I love its pagan immorality because it's great fodder for dark fantasy.

Why is Hikaru spending so much time on this move? The clocks in the other 3 games are all fairly close, but Hikaru's almost an hour down vs Sindarov at this point.
>>97829063he forgot whose move it was
>>97762323I know how you feel bro. I'm one game away from breaking my longest win streak so I really don't want to lose my next game.I'm currently on a 9-win streak, which I've only done once before (when I was a lot lower rated). Got my 9th win earlier today and with that win I reached a new peak rating. To get to 10 in a row I'll have to push that rating even higher.
>>97829063Turns out it was the second-longest move of all time in the Candidates.

>>97829030>I saw that the 3e Infernals manuscript came out recently and was curious about the general opinion of it here? It's like by most that I've seen. It's been disliked by some others. I think whether or not playing them is worthwhile is solidly determined by how tolerant you are of 3e's base system - Infernals, and honestly no splat, is hype enough to push your over the edge to enjoying 3e unless you were already basically there before. Not nearly the same way 1e/2e would be tolerated because you liked the splats/characters/world, at least.
>>97829030I like them a lot. I haven't had a chance to run or pkay them yet, but I intend to run an Infernals campaign at some point. I dislike Ebon Dragon still being a Saturday morning cartoon villain, but that's the most major complaint I have.
>>97829067That would track, since it's happened every single time. First Sids/Alchs in 1e, then Infernals in 2e. I think there's something to be respected for limiting errata/extraneous releases in terms of purity of product, but not when it leaves issues unaddressed. I think 2e suffered from overuse of this (i.e. Ink Monkeys, GotMH). I wish that 3e would have designed the mainline Exalts simultaneously to break the cycle, but I understand why that wasn't possible.>>97829107Yeah, given the overhaul Infernals got, I think a chunk of people are bound to be unhappy for their own reasons either way. My group wrote off 3e a long time ago and we wouldn't go back, but I do like seeing how my old favorites make the transition. About hype, I do feel that's one thing that earlier editions were better at - selling a splat with characterful writing and by example with the charmset. 3e Charms feel too mechanically dense to have that simple switch-flipping, imagination-sparking effect, but perhaps that's just my own bias at play (3e Solars mostly did that for me initially, after all).>>97829181The weird thing is, I could swear I remember Vance or SLS mentioning they wanted to drop that interpretation of the Ebon Dragon and return to his 1e roots. The cynic in me wants to speculate that they only didn't so that they could loot the 2e charmset for ready-made ideas, but the fluff is still easy to change for your own games. I hope you have fun with them.

>>97829077>>result looks like assYou're talking about a proof-of-concept, you ninny.>he still used aiI see we're operating on the definition of "AI" that has no meaning at all.
>>97828795>I think it's actually fewer steps to do it in a non-retarded way. You're right, it is less steps to do it with AI.Using GIMP you have to A LOT more then just simply desaturate colours. You have to fuck around editing the image to get something that still isn't that great. The AI on the other hand, you upload the picture you want to use, select "Simple Coloring page" and then 30 seconds later it gives you something that only requires a tiny little bit more editing to work.
>>97829190>I see we're operating on the definition of "AI" that has no meaning at all.find a meaningful difference then, assuming that the image that came out was more or less the same, with maybe just some jagged edges smoothed out by the newer type

Recently I found some Humanity Fuck Yeah YouTube videos that use AI voice narration on my feed. After using them as background noise while cleaning my apartment I found that that most of them are more or less the same. Humans are the only ones who know how to fight/love sex/survive/etc. How can we save the genre or reinvent it so it isn't so stale?

a setting is made out of narratives.
>>97829407I can tell this thread is gonna roll heads, pointing out how previous Kirby Era “stagnation” as being no better than capeshit makes people seethe 40k as a timeline did progress albeit extremely slow and status quos for editions were less blatant. The constant marvel complaints always come from guys who had their head canon shattered
So what are you working on?>Why should I homebrew?/tg/ products are fairly unique in that it's actually pretty simple to make them these days, with a plethora of products to assist in making and playtesting your game. >>97825500>right wingers did not start getting called chuds until we found out what was going on in the brooklyn tunnels many years before we found out how real that meme is.What does that have to do with anything? Are you a retard?
https://files.catbox.moe/c58mlm.pdfBeen working on a martial arts shonen/xianxia tactical ttrpg for a while. Hitting the feedback block again so I would love if someone could give it a read and tell me what they think. Looking for whats missing and whats confusing, not looking for feedback on book structure. Also general balancing needs to be worked on but feedback on that is welcome too. The main "gimmick" is the declare/resolve combat system that lets characters act at different rates and allows to respond between the start and end of another characters action. You are also able to use energy to enhance your physical properties like DBZ or YuYu Hakusho.I am pretty happy with the framework foundation, even if it is crunchy.
>>97828078chud means cannibal human underground dweller, it is an old grindcore movie, yet it is the liberal reddit owner who ran /r/cannibalism . Its the left projecting onto the right and it is a linguistic false flag to poison people against the real cannibal human underground dwellers who walk amongst us today
>>97828661>Grindcore movieFrindcore is an offshoot of Death Metal; it is a music genre. The term you are fumbling for is "Grindhouse", and desu, I'd call it more of a shlock horror than a , and I'm not sure it meets the grindhouse criteria because that's about it getting a double-bill back to back release at cheap cinemas.I'd call it more "Shlock Horror".Being a Chud myself, I don't care what they call me.
>>97825022D20 needs some decently big numbers for mods to matter more than dice. Anything less than +11 means the dice roll probably matters a lot more than the mods. And this is before getting into what you want your target numbers to be. If you want mods to matter more than rolls you're probably gonna wanna do 3D6 where the majority of rolls will land within a smaller average range, where +1 actually matters a lot more than +1 in a D20 system.
