>>97842406You'd be insane to do otherwise. Not even older editions had you decide and roll, because in those classes had minimum stat requirements in order to qualify.>7, 7, 13, 15, 9, 9Decent rolls for an Artificer. Even by the variant rules proposed here >>97841591 this would be a terrible Wizard though. You still have a -1 to Dex so terrible AC, which proficiency bonus also doesn't help address.
Rolled 3, 2, 6, 5, 6, 3, 2, 3, 6, 5, 6, 6, 5, 4, 5, 5, 5, 4, 1, 2, 4, 1, 1, 5 = 95 (24d6)This is my female half-orc bear totem barbarian.
>>97841591>make change>make second change that counters the mechanical impact of the first changeOkay, but why? All you’ve done is make ability scores even more pointlessly abstracted. If ASIs grant you the same mathematical benefit as before and proficiency bonus counteracts the mathematical impact of the new modifier math, you’ve returned to where you were but with fuzzier math. Any impact of increasing randomization is negated by your concessions.
>>97842474The only classes that can really get away with just one stat are Artificer, Cleric, Fighter, Paladin, and Rogue. Anyone else needs a modicum of Dexterity for AC.Paladin might seem like an odd inclusion there, but even if you roll 15 Cha and everything else is 10 or less, you can spend your Background to get True Strike via Magic Initiate in the 2024 rules. If you're still in 2014, Paladin is still the best use of those scores, but involves taking the Blessed Warrior fighting style so you can just get an attacking cantrip and being a worse Cleric.Classes like Wizard or Sorcerer are the ones that suffer the most because unless you roll exactly a high Dex alongside a decent casting stat, you just won't have the AC to actually survive.
>>97841988>3d6 worked becauseCharacter creation was simpler and characters were seen as more disposable. The principal difference between the design of 5e and the design of TSR editions isn’t the size of the numbers, it’s the length of the character sheet.

>>97825022D20 needs some decently big numbers for mods to matter more than dice. Anything less than +11 means the dice roll probably matters a lot more than the mods. And this is before getting into what you want your target numbers to be. If you want mods to matter more than rolls you're probably gonna wanna do 3D6 where the majority of rolls will land within a smaller average range, where +1 actually matters a lot more than +1 in a D20 system.

>>97840794>1000 men>5 big tiddy females>coomer card gameWhy is it like this in Americuck?
>>97840873>not be affected>becomes tiny pp small energy weak numbersNo, power has to be represented by huge numerals. If you have a power of 5 it means you're some kind of puny insignificant fag, a weakling not worth the trouble. A power of 5.000.000 on the other hand means you're a dragon-god who is about to wipe out entire armies by looking in their general direction.Only thing better than a bunch of zeros is the infinity symbol, which kind of looks like zeros if you think about it.
>>97840873It's just that way so there's no possible confusion between costs and power.
>>97839860i hate textless cards, they shouldn't be deck legal
>>97840873No.On a psychological level, single or double digit numbers are used to represent mundane units from real life, it doesn't convey any epicness at all, and if it were money it'd represent something cheap like a burger. It just sounds off to say I attack you with 4 and you defend with 6 (although, verbally this ends up being the case lol sometimes playing we start omiting the "thousand" and just say the number, but when I power up or drop a powerful card I WILL say the full number)Regardless of all, attacking with 10,000 is a lot. Be it money, joules, miles, soldiers, kg.Although some online card games do play around with basic single digit numbers, it's part of the experience being compact, mobile and quick fun.
Why did domain level play fall out of style?
>>97837556It's a niche of a niche. Most people, especially nowadays, don't find the idea of conquering, managing, ruling and expanding a domain interesting. There's still definitely a market and people doing it, but as the hobby has expanded outward, a lesser percentage of the new acquisitions finds such an endeavour worthwhile. Look at the reaction to 5e's Bastions. It was relatively lukewarm, with most people saying "huh, neat" and moving on, or people saying 'this is a nice start, but X system does it better/more in-depth/in a different way.'
>>97842401Nice. Reminds me that I have to finish painting my Toulmore squads....

>>97840608As I understand it it's unclear whether Birthright or Spelljammer was their biggest flop of all time but both are basically the poster children for the setting bloat that contributed to the demise of TSR. They're very different settings of course, one flopped due to being quirk chungus that nobody asked for and the other was medieval fantasy yet again ("but we swear we have a unique hook! It's 10% different!"), but they both bombed.
>>97841350>mad about ACKS outta nowhererent free
Why did Eberron die?
>>97842449It's got some interesting mainstays, but they barely tried to push Eberron as a setting for 5e, though I feel that way for all settings in 5e except Forgotten Realms.
Eberron was a setting built on the idea "What if 3rd edition's mechanics were not abstractions, but recognized by the world's inhabitants and societies were built around them."It's a setting tied to an edition. The moment 4e came along and drastically changed the games mechanics, it was no longer compatible with the setting, either in tone or in the logic of its people.
>>97842449There's only so much lore I can keep in my head. I always assumed it was a supplement for Pathfinder, not Forgotten Realms.
Been chilling on Japanese TRPG twitter and they put like 1000% times more effort into the games they run. Like this would be a pic of how polished an average VTT game looks like in Japan.
Their range of indie CoC scenarios are unmatched, and when they turn it into streamable content they make it look great presentation-wise. I wish we have more of these translated.
It’s best to take a balanced perspective on technology. I’ve spent 10k hours in foundry and been running irl games since I was a kid. Foundry brings an unparalleled level of fidelity to your games, even if you prefer totm. Once you understand how the system works, your games run twice as fast, or more. Nobody has to do math anymore which speeds up everything to unimaginable levels (this has the knock on effect of making high level play much easier). You can assemble massive compendia of lore and details, upload all your hand drawn maps to one place (with annotations). You can integrate music to make the experience vivid and operatic. Fvtt also solves the issue of mapping and fow in a way that irl can never even approach. The drawback is that fvtt is an extremely temperamental program that constantly deals out frustration and stress to the dungeon master. If you ever update your program, which sometimes you need to do in order to play a certain system, it has a high chance of rendering your old work damaged. The UI is unnecessarily complex, and it takes a lot of work to do simple things, and mods can’t always fix the issues that the clueless devs create. It puts a high level of demand on the GM, and dealing with the tech alone can lead to burnout. There are dozens of noob traps and hidden issues that will plague you, like undiagnosable neurological diseases. I have even spent money in vain efforts to hire professionals to fix these issues, but fvtt is a poorly made program and it only enjoys the place it does because other vtts are even worse. But with all this said, you’re deluding yourself if you think that you’re better than other GMs because you refuse to learn how to use software.

>>97829802>>97829802Those are a bit weak on the scale of Nymph's kiss or even the niche power of Lichloved.>what's the fey banger feat called?Nymph's Kiss it's unfortunately Exalted ad needs you to keep the relationship going (And Fey tend to be fickle with even the good ones pulling you into the occasional mean prank that might cost you your Exalted status)These are usually very powerful feats, Lichloved is fairly niche but strong in that niche, while Nymph's kiss is just mondo strong.Fey creatures regard you as though you were fey. You gain a +2 circumstance bonus on all Charisma-related checks, and a +1 bonus on all saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities. Starting with the level when you take this feat, you gain 1 extra skill point per level.Nice as a starter.I like the idea of a "Gotta fuck em all' playthough where there's a separate track without nonsex prereqs (And players possibly start with one or two) just to get crazy.
>>97833501>Those are a bit weakI was intentionally picking weak ones that a DM might be convinced to throw your way as a free feat for role playing in a standard game.If you want to have a 'Gotta fuck em all' game centered around the theme I would suggest that you don't pigeon hole every creature with an exact line of feats but come up with a generic system.I have one like that from a lewd themed game I planned out but never got to run.The gist was, some goddess blessed PCs as her champions and granted them an ability to copy aspects of the girls they slept with. For every creature of a given species one sleeps with, gets a cumulative +1% chance to copy one of their feats / abilities / skills at random. Once copied from a given species, can't copy anything more from them, have to look for others. The cost of this was that a PC who accepted being a champion of that goddess, couldn't get anything except class abilities by any other means, took massive penalties against any kind of seduction/mind control and monster girls could drain his magic abilities through sex. That last one was to intentionally sabotage spell caster classes, since in this game, martials couldn't make any proper builds.
>>97835083Entirely fair. My idea was to have em be powerful but to throw higher CRs at them.(System would be a bit of a restricted Gestalt too so they're already OP whis just helps even it out)
>>97833501>>97835083and yet there's no feat that a dragon or lich can take that lets them debase themselves to the point they'll fuck a human
>>97837616Gestalt doesn't help the turn economy though, you can still only do so much per turn even if you have more options.
I always hear about the stir this caused, and recently about how bad or redeemable it is. I'm not certain about it myself because I dabbled with 3e and then got into 5e, never paid much attention to the scene during that entire era. What does /tg/ think of the system?
>>97839106>Not as gay as Paizo but nearing it.I had no clue Paizo became THAT bad.>>97838955I think it was just his wife, actually.>>97838370I'm pretty sure most of the hype around The Thing came from the players, and the hate for The Different Thing came from them looking at it. Lots of 2e players just went on to play 3e without too much problem, and even on to other d20 games.>>97838265Geez fuck, anon>>97836746I had just been listing official takes on settings across the various editions. I have strange hobbies that usually amount to stuff that no one ever has any use for.
>>97840769And lots of 3.5 groups played 4e without much problem. My real life group was one of them. Unless you have some numbers to back up the claim, anecdotes don't mean much here.
>>97840852Truth. The same goes for >>97838370, though. I guess you can always set up a poll or something if you're curious, like, how many people went from before 3e and dropped before 4e or not, why they didn't care for it or whatever.
>>97838955Here's what happened. The guy they hired to do the VTT 4e was supposed to launch with, and all backend integration for 4e, found out his more successful wife who worked for Microsoft had an affair. She left him, got a restraining order and went to stay with friends. He found her in a parking lot, shot her repeatedly with a 9mm and fatally turned the gun on himself. This happened after 4e was heavily promoted to have an integrated VTT, and no one was able to make the murder-suicide devs code work, I vaguely recall it being called 'spaghetti code'.So 4e launched without the VTT and failed to hit the M:tG sales numbers WotC promised the execs it would hit.
>>97838955>>97842360Part of the tipping point too was that the VTT was supposed to tie in with Gleemax, a social media site for exclusively for tabletop gamers. Except it was owned by WotC so it was in reality it was only for D&D and MtG fans. Unsurprisingly people weren't really interested in joining a social media site with such a tiny scope and also a soon to be subscription to use half of its features so it failed to gain any interest and was scrapped. The VTT was deeply entwinned with Gleemax and also yeah was a spaghetti code nightmare that only the now dead guy knew how to untangle so they just threw out what they had and quickly built the D&D Insider we got.
