>>97191702>But the sequel trilogy did offer SOME interesting locations, vehicles, and ideas that one could conceivably cannibalize for their own SW RPG campaign.Like what? Everything's just a knockoff of the OT and that's the biggest offense the ST committed. No matter your opinion on the PT movies themselves, there's so much worldbuilding potential they added. I legitimately can't think of anything compelling the ST brings to the table

>>97205144I dislike it for many reasons. It originated as a class project from two university students. They took mechanics from other solo games without crediting them and watered them down. It isn't actually well researched. It isn't balanced or playtested properly. There is no meaningful decision space. Daesh does nothing but slowly get folded as a speedbump. It has a bunch of mechanics tacked on from other games that don't really make sense like some of the tracks and cardplay. It winning best tactical game at CSR and being on the ballot for game of the year is somewhat insulting given the other games that were there as wellI don't hold it against someone who will like it because it is very purposely designed to be a beginner game, but it is by definition slop as it is a pirated game at its core
>>97189006It's fun to play every once in awhile. Not worth obsessing over or buying.
Targi is way better than Jaipur and it's not even close.
After the the Tau'va manifests in early M42 a narrow slice of the population of T'au plus their populations of non T’au who are faithful to the emerging Tau’va religion. find themselves able to control the elements that the four T’au Castes are named for. This control being identical to the Bending arts of Avatar. T'au castes are locked to only being able to manifest their associated element whilst the non-tau followers of the Tau‘va are able to manifest as any kind of bender though it is slanted toward people who most strongly resonate with a given Element's spiritual affiliation. The number of people in Avatar itself who actually 'have' Bending and what makes a person get it or not is a bit loosie goosey as is so just go along with the number I’m laying out being a clean 1% of the population. Training of the bending arts takes the same martial art & fitness regimes as in Avatar though information sharing and media does canonically make the rarer techniques more widely avalible by the time of Korra so assume bending specializations are as common as they are were in that time.Ethereal are benderless but there is a single reincarnating Tauvatar Ethereal who in on a hotline to Tau'va and able to consult their past lives when and if they’ve accumulated any. If Tauvatar perishes Tau'va will just cook up a new Tauvatar but always starting over from scratch on the reincarnation cycle. Bending is to be treated like a Psyker power in terms of there being forces which dampen or prevent it’s use but the act of doing a Bending art in of itself is to be treated as 'safe' insofar as it‘s having nothing in the way of perils to using it.

>>97204624GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
>>97204624It’s a minor that the fire caste would be so irritatingly stuck with maybe the least useful element to have for an army already awash in powerful ranged weapons they can use over the basicbitch open flames of a fire bender and even there I cannot completely dismiss the sheer blatant utility that would come from having a weightless infinite fuel blowtorch, flamethrower and lighter on your person at all times. Even if it cannot serve as a replacement for your gun, it damn well is better then a trench knife. If nothing else the Auxilaries who end up in the fight will be much empowered for their having that precious variety that the castes don’t. A Vespa’s airbender is just strait up going to be zipping in the air like he’s on rocket boots. I don’t have much room to talk about airbending or water being that they are a bit cut off from violence and all but I think Water’ healing & destilination & defence/escape potentials all can compliment Water caste’s diplo-espionage deal alright. Nonlethal ice blocking or blood ending of a guy who pulls the knife, fog cloud smokescreens to run away from ambushes into a stream, torture guys with blood bendin, offer up the carrot of free use of the magic healing hands when angling for good favour in a community you’re trying to make defect to you. I’mpve got less thoughts swings around air caste since they’re well…stuck in aircraft and spaceship but if nothing else pilots can bail better. When the subject of Avatar’s elements comes up it’s almost always immediately pointed out that Earth is by far the most practical element to bend IRL. Need a well drilled? Earth Bender can punch a hole to groundwater in seconds. Need a footing dug? Again, seconds. the military applications of being able to make rock shields, dig trenches, bury landmines, and disable enemy vehicles, all with just one goofy little dance is just a gross multiplier of force. Earth would be an insanely useful element.
Just a reminder that this already exists in Star Wars.I'm referring to the Shapers of Kro'var; they're only mentioned once or twice in the footnotes of some Star Wars role-playing game books. They can shape the elements, but since it's a Force ability, any Force user who isn't a native of Kro'var can learn it.It seems that the only important thing they've done is fight against the separatists before the events of The Phantom Menace.
A reminder that Shadow Bending also exists.

>>97201066Daemons operate on Vibes. Battle, and killing, and death involve blood, thus Daemons when manifested in realspace can have blood even if they have no need of it just because it fits the Vibe. >>97205616>>97205346Not out yet, duh.
got into my first dnd game last night. at the start the session the dm asked us for our character sheets. so we gave ours, but it was pretty fucking weird. his monsters stuff are all hidden behind the divider. why should he be allowed to look at ours? the game was pretty fun tho.
>>97190664Because it helps the DM make the game more fun. When I’m planning for an upcoming session, and I take a look at the character sheets and remember that one of my players just got fireball, you better believe I’m going to give him a chance to use it.
>>97191203Some people are bad at math or reading. The best role player at my table needs to be reminded, regularly, to add his attribute score bonus instead of his whole attribute score to roles. It’s great because if I accidentally made a combat too tough, I’ll just forget to remind him and suddenly 30 AC and DR/10 is meaningless.
>>97190664Yeah, because he needs to know your abilities, while part of the game as a player is learning how the enemies work and/or reacting to what the GM surprises you with. While initially his encounters are hidden, once you fight a creature you'll have a chance to learn in real time. It creates an element of strategy on the player side. The GM has, functionally, infinite and unlimited power and so knowing your sheets ensures they don't throw an encounter that is completely unfair at you. Like, the kind of shit you can't win no matter how well you roll. Speaking optimistically, the GM knowing your sheets lets them present you with encounters that ensure everyone gets to participate and use their abilities. Pessimistically, it's to ensure nobody is cheating.Ignore the retards ITT that will screech and bitch about HAVE YOU TRIED NOT PLAYING DND because they're all nogames faggots, if you're having fun with your friends that's all that matters.>>97190888>No NameUnderstandable on your first sheet. Guy's new to TTRPGs, lay off.>14 CHA on a dwarven fighterHe's a Human, check the top of the sheet. Odds are, the language is from the Background. That also explains why he's got odd stats; he's using baseline 5e human which gets +1 to everything. Also, nothing wrong with high CHA on a fighter, gives you stuff to do outside of hitting stuff. The INT and WIS are questionable I suppose but it just means his fighter is well-rounded and he can go +1 DEX/CON at Level 4 to round those numbers out if he wants.>Taking Defense?Comment too long. >>97190664Also, here's some tips for what comes next OP:>Level 3Pick whatever Subclass you prefer, but my reccomendations are Champion and Battle Master.Champion makes you crit more and provides other minor benefits as you gain Levels in Fighter.Battle Master opens up a list of Manuvers you can add onto your attacks for more damage/accuracy, as well as some non-combat options to boost skill checks. Both are very good to choose for a first-time player.>Level 4Increase your Ability Scores instead of taking a feat (unless your GM allows both and is based). Put +1 into Dexterity, and +1 into Constitution. This will - at that level at least - give you +4 HP (as the modifier from Constitution applies retroactively!) and improve your Initiative to make you less likely to roll bad (and helps your Dexterity saving throws and skill checks by making the modifier 0 instead of -1!).>Level 6Either increase your Strength to 18 (+2 to strength) or take the Great Weapon Master Feat if your GM is using Feats. This will make you more effective in battle either way.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97190664Yes, obviously. Hell it's better for the GM to have a copy of everyone's sheets so that he can roll for certain things here and there secretly to make the game work better. Don't be a retard you stupid faggot.
>author adapts his D&D campaign into a well-written, highly-entertaining animated seriesWhy has nobody done this since?
>>97205480I don't really get why people point to Shield Hero as some sort of transformative work. The author claims it's about the difficulties of remaining moral in a society headed by the immoral, but the shield guy's issues with "immoral" rulers is resolved pretty much in the first arc, after which the focus is put on how much the other heroes suck compared to him. He's never depicted as doing anything particularly awful, and the few morally ambiguous actions he takes are framed as being justified.
>>97205382Bastard!! features a main character who's arrogance fucked him over (to the point of him being killed) even before the manga started and him being a jerk is a distinct character flaw that's often played up for comedy, and when Berserk has Guts being sadistic or cruel it is shown not as him being cool, but him being pathetic and miserable and having no way to deal with the suffering he's enduring. They both grow as characters, and they both take certain pains to make sure that the story is more than just "Look at my self insert getting what he wants." Hell, Miura's self insert (at least visually) was actually Pippin. Then we can go to some really dark seinen like Ichi the Killer, where the main character is an elite unstoppable assassin that kills in ways so brutal and psychotic that you almost feel bad for the yakuza he kills, while also being the most soul-crushingly pathetic person imaginable. It's almost like an unspoken rule, that the stronger and darker you got, the more Pathetic coins your character had to cash in so the audience understood that there was more to the character than just being an unstoppable badass. On an unrelated note, Guts, Griffith, and Alucard from Hellsing all got bumfucked when they were little kids.
>>97205537It probably isn't, but it's the clearest example of honest-to-god "moral" power fantasy. And yes, that is pretty bad.Like, I get the fantasy of getting more pussy for nothing. But the fantasy of being better than others just because others are evil? Really?
>>97205480>I hardly think being cucked is something particulary more asian than anywhere else, anonI didn't think so either, up until I saw Zone of the Enders.Zone of the Enders features two main factions: people from Earth and people from Mars. The people of Earth, thanks to the heavier gravity, are much bigger and stronger than the people who live on Mars. With the Earth also having a stronger and larger military, they bully and exploit the Martians, with the Martians hoping to gain an advantage with some superior technology. And for some reason the people from Earth are all blonde with blue eyes while the people from Mars all have dark hair and brown eyes. And, of course, the most notable feature of the ZoE mech designs are the gigantic literal cock pits. I don't think they're being particularly subtle with the symbolism.I think the Japanese and Korean obsession with getting cucked really does stem from all the American military bases on their soil. It's hard to feel powerful and masculine when you're hosting the most powerful military in the world and depending on them for your safety. That, and the G.I.s fucking their girlfriends and wives on the weekends.
>>97205629Ah yes, the fine art of psychanalyzing the society of a whole country from a single videogame.Japs do enjoy their not-particulary-subtle american bashing in militaristic scifi, mind you. Certainly more than say, Germans (who have more american troops there than Korea). Getting freudian over it is no more sensible than saying 'murricans are still getting sore about Pearl Harbour given how much Hollywood likes the "sudden attack" trope (and yes, it did way before 9/11).

>>97205659iirc all the septs are focused around caerns and it's rare to find an unattended caern yeah. I'm refereeing for a group of 3 female players. All three are new to Cyberpunk but they have played D&D 5e before and are ok with trying out a new system. I have never GM'd D&D for them but I did play together with 2 of them and they are ok.any advice with storytelling for women?
>>97203755Are they genre-aware? Cyberpunk is not a lighthearted dungeon-crawling fantasy setting. This is a world where if you fuck up, you're dead fast, or worse, your body ends up in some scab chop shop or a corpo lab where you're experimented on and then discarded when you've outlived your usefulness. Particularly for the time of the RED, all of Night City just reeks of shittiness> You start off poor, living out of a shipping container or on the street>No one can source anything>everyone is trying to fuck everyone else out of money>The city is filled with hyper-violence, rape, poverty, and corruption>practically everything you do will cost you humanity, so you have to carefully balance your calendar to allow for some "vacation days" so you don't go cyberpsycho. It depends on the constitution of the players, but if they're normie girls who watched the anime and want some Chromeo and Juliet story, I think they may be disappointed. If they're used to more hard-fantasy stories with grim-dark elements, I think they'd be at home in the game. If their IQ is above room temperature, they should enjoy the same stories guys enjoy (if you're a good storyteller). Other than that, I would go over their character sheet and try to implement parts of their backstory into whatever narrative you're crafting when you can. Guys like this as well, of course. It shows the DM/Ref didn't just glance at the character sheet and handwave them into the world.
>>97203755I'd be more worried about their tabletop game preconceptions coming from 5E more than gender. While you can definitely run your first session however you like (detective mystery, lots of combat, classic heist, social interaction, community building, etc) if you do have a fight it has to be brutal. If 5E players don't at least get a few funny crits in their first combat they won't ever respect the threat of combat. You don't have to make combat hardened especially if the players don't minmax (but since they are 5E players I'm confident they'll at least google 'cyberpunk red starting advice' like mine did). So far my female players have been a violent techrunner who likes upgrading gear for much more danger, another netrunner who likes befriending AI and trapping them in household appliances without wifi access, and a solo who started a gang (which were a failed edgerunner group the crew beat in an early job but I gave them way too much personality). So maybe women are more receptive to interesting NPCs and building groups?
>>97203755Start the session with their characters kidnapped by a megacorp or gang or whatever that puts that submissive slut neurochip that came in that chromebook in which they added furries
>>97203755Just make sure they understand from the very outset the world of cyberpunk is not a nice place that's going to cater to them. You are not the chosen one, or an intrepid adventurer. You are a lost soul in a sea of lost souls where hope got snuffed out years ago.
