How about coloring? How do YOU paint your mechs? Are there ace customs?
>>97188461me personally or how it works in my setting?
>>97188523>>97188461well I'll talk setting because I don't have minis (unfortunately)My setting is mostly civilian monster hunters fighting monsters, although the military do use mechs as well but in combined warfare strategies (as regular vehicles and missiles can shut down mechs pretty easily if the pilots aren't above average). The civilian monster hunters are basically all Ace Customs, without the aces - the organizations benefit from their pilots having good branding, so they incentivize their pilots to customize their mechs and paint livery on them based on their own tastes and aesthetics, so the pilots gain reputation individually and said reputation is tied to their organization. There are mechanical artisans that specialize painting, vanity, physical modifications on parts and more (which is the excuse I give my players to allow a variety of mech designs regardless of parts equipped), which means there's a massive culture of mecha fancy, both for combat but also for entertainment (as mechs are used in a variety of fields besides combat). Each region has a dominant aesthetic for the average mecha pilot, but there's tons of variation; A war that occurred a few years ago kind of shuffled people around worldwide, so there's a bit of everything everywhere. Not all pilots want to play doll though, and it's perfectly fine to just buy your parts and use them the way they are, but there will probably be SOMETHING your average pilot will want to change.Military mechs are usually standardized with their paint and design, and commanders have small markings for the sake of it. Military mechs are MUCH more powerful than your average civilian monster hunting mech though (as in, they actually use live AP ammo and have access to good transport and sensors), so if you see 3-4 greyish/greenish mechs using practically the same parts and equipment, you fucking run.
>>97188258>You just said votoms isn't mecha and you're gay and wrong.Votoms are power armor. Change my mind.>No, that's actually going to lead to players asking "why does the game keep shaking the screen and making loud noises and getting blurry?" because the cars are minuscule and hard to notice. They're not THAT small. Thread #01 Winter Wonderland.Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97089644Rules:>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest. >This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra. >Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory. >Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter. >Spoiler any OOC discussion.Happy hunting.
Gentlemen, sorry I've been away. I've been trying to find the secrets of this so called Vril that's been eluding me in this book. Haven't had much success on a tutor though perhaps during my initiation at the end of the week. My leg has been better, but beggars can't be choosers.>>97185337I've been understanding the appeal reading through this tome I bought from a sketchy lawyer down in Florida. Some of it actually works, there's a little incantation to make a flame. Lot of spooky stuff though, I fear there may be an actual demon haunting this tome or something.>>97182817Glad to see you're alright friend. Good to see you're enjoying your safehouse as well. My group has made an effort to make it more comfortable as it looks like we'll be taking an extended leave from England. Who the hell is Leopold?>>97182626Does look very otherworldly. Was thinking it may have been Brazil or Yemen or some weird place, but I don't recognize the trees at all. Had a brief fascination with them back when I was making an exotic landscaping business in England. Unfortunately, government stopped me. And no one has much scapable land in London at least.
>>97185742>Who the hell is LeopoldIt's some myth about an ancient group of hunters, I'm guessing this Leopold (assuming he was real) would be some kind important figure to them. Honestly, makes you wonder why people need to come up with made up groups when there are real secret societies. Wonder where he heard about them though...

>>97188707I don't buy your excuse; it is just trying to skate by on technicalities in a way that you might expect out of a courtroom. It doesn't pass the reasonable test of what an average person would think which is why it stinks of doublespeak. Like look at these Deathlords, man. There is absolutely no need to carry water for this design
>>97188817Your argument is that you don't like my vibes. Get real, you're butthurt because you, like many, had unreasonable expectations that went beyond the promises made and saw goals that weren't there.
>>97188798>By the way that 3e npc sheets works, the ST have to fulfill them with something, in the case of the Deathlords is with Abyssal charms. That doesn't follow from any of the advice given.>>97188817Your opinion is not shared by many in the fandom, though.
>>97188817>Like look at these Deathlords, man. There is absolutely no need to carry water for this designTo be fair, the Deathlords are effectively elder Abyssals in all but name.
>>97188827No, like I said my argument is that you're trying to play with words like a lawyer would to make an excuse for why it's not actually so bad when they are cheeky and misleading. >>97188834Revisionism. People bitched about deathlords for years for these exact reasons. It adds nothing of value to the setting (another commonly lodged complaint)
Besides Middle Earth, are there setting with a monotheistic God but has powerful deity like entities who may or not be worshiped?
>>97183250World of Darkness.
>>97183250Forgotten Realms. Possibly also Greyhawk, depending on how you interpret Saint Cuthbert's inclusion into it.
>>97183250Yeah, mine. After I finished reading the Silmarillion I stole that idea for my world, having plenty of standard fantasy gods, & one secret God of gods. I'd describe it to my players as "gods are always depicted shrouded in light, know now that it isn't them that produce that light, it is Him standing behind & over the,, the true Lord of lords watching over the gods themselves that frames them in their purpose". Because I'm conceited I also gave him my own initials, it fits fine enough.

It feels like it is pretty natural for formalized religions to move towards monotheism.

>>97185629It's what TCGs are for. their purpose is to milk players like cattle, and discard them when they stop producing. any of these games could as easily be a boardgame or LCG. by choosing to launch as a TCG, James was telling you up front that "fuck over old players" was always going to be part of the deal. he unambiguously informed you up front the nature of your relationship. stop acting surprised.
>FaB doesnt reprint old cardsAAAAA FUCK YOU JAMES CAGE WHITE THE GAME IS TOO FUCKING EXPENSIVE>FaB reprints old cardsAAAAAA FUCK YOU JAMES CAGE WHITE THE GAME IS TOO SIMILAR TO HOW ITS ALWAYS BEEN
>>97188193>AAAAA FUCK YOU JAMES CAGE WHITE THE GAME IS TOO FUCKING EXPENSIVEBut I never said that. Different people, ones who haven't been playing long, were sick of the fact the older cards were flushed out of the market and expensive. Their ubiquity serves as a different complaint, but that also significantly drives up the price. There's simply no other viable options. Not a lot of people realize how much gear and other cards get reused across all heroes. >>97188193>AAAAAA FUCK YOU JAMES CAGE WHITE THE GAME IS TOO SIMILAR TO HOW ITS ALWAYS BEENI think that's largely due to the fact that we now know why these cards are the only ones worth using. LSS refuses to advance the game designs to produce so much as a side grade, or ideally something different and new. They stopped experimenting and instead chose to reiterate their works. Imagine how exciting this new set would be if they spent all those Legendary slots on brand new and unexplored alternatives to the most reused cards instead of clogging it up with reprints?

How is the Horus Heresy presented to the plebs? Obviously they know it happened but the existence of traitor marines is a closely guarded secret as is the existence of the ruinous powers. So do they basically get the 2nd edition version when Horus was a mortal general whose Imperial Army troops betrayed the emperor? I know he's generally shown as a dragon being slain by the emperor.I only mention it because I was going to include a medieval style mystery play and was wondering how far to go propaganda wise i.e having the emperor pushing child Horus on a swing or having his minions on the vengeful spirit being auxila mooks while the emperor is flanked by dudes in foam Imperial Fist outfits etc
>>97188250It's framed as a religious tale, Big E forged nine angels to fight nine satans, and was struck down so humanity could survive. This is the best most get without asking one of the many people who were there at the time.
>>97188250You can corrupt the story quite a bit as long as the gist is "emperor good and horus bad". Do some funnies like mix up IF and custodes since both would be yellow or change characters around like angron and magnus being swapped because someone fucked up hard on the record keeping.
>>97188250>>97188463To expand more on my suggestion, imagine if nobody on the planet had forbidden lore (horus heresy) and instead relied upon common lore (imperial creed) or scholastic lore (legend) and all the books got rewritten a few times and whoever was in charge of remembering everything to the letter got a few blows to the head in a fight spanned over thousands of years.
Intending on bringing in the Kabal of Crimson Woes from DH1e’s Purge the Unclean. Given how weak they are in that book and how they get no respect in the Expanse I imagine they’re kind of a joke. How can I make them “weak” without making them too comedic? So far I have their Archon wield two Venomblades but with no venom because he just puts his own blood in instead. Came up with it cos I saw someone’s megaedgy DEldar OC have a vampire theme and so I wanted to take the piss out of it.

>>97184897>>97185935So something I'm just tossing out there, the Virizid, are only rough Imperial technology(Advanced Space) and their naturally long lived(100~200 years). So if we factor in rejuvenants they could probably live centuries. What if they still haven't mastered warp travel. They just travel through real space because they're in no rush to their destination. They haven't been able to distinguish, AoS humans or the Imperium. During the Great Crusade some Space Marine legion rocked their shit but the Heresy started. Imperial records thought they were effectively genocided but the crusade only reached outer colonies. So Virizid are slowly reclaiming worlds that they lost and they stumble upon the Frontier world and their fleet was armed and ready to engage a much larger force than what was stationed there.

>>97188023For one-shots, sometimes I like to let a brand new player play as a young or wyrmling dragon, just so they're not inundated with too many things to look through on a character sheet
We've had dullahans, vampires, skeletons, ghosts, cyborgs, and cartoon characters, dunno what I would say is the weirdest
Two questions:1) Any ideas for convincing them not to do that? (We play 5E, Call of Cthulhu and occasionally OSE)2) If I had to pick, which one of the two is the least cancerous?
>>97181378If you're not interested in either then why force yourself to run it? >>97186032>>97186130PC option balance in Draw Steel is okay enough. There are definitely some outliers and "correct" builds.Forced movement builds completely demolish enemies without high stability, and a hakaan null (metakinetic) is probably the one build with the highest optimization ceiling in the game because of this. Yes, a "monk" shoving people around is as strong as it gets. A good runner-up might be a hakaan fury likewise abusing forced movement, probably with a Hurling weapon for range.I hope you do not mind some Reddit links, because these two threads cover a hakaan null and a hakaan fury:https://www.reddit.com/r/drawsteelbuilds/comments/1mulvvi/what_are_your_thoughts_on_a_hakaan_nulls/https://www.reddit.com/r/drawsteelbuilds/comments/1mwh4p1/the_king_a_reaver_fury_forced_movement_build/Aside from these, I have noted that virtually every high-optimization party wants a tactician (i.e. warlord), because it allows a party to coordinate their tactics and focus their fire far better than, say, a troubadour (i.e. bard). Similarly, the talent (i.e. psion) has some rather nutty hard control, like level 2 Slow and level 3 Fling Through Time, and its level 1(!) Flashback allows the party to spam some of its better synergies.Honorable mention goes to the fury's level 2 You Are Already Dead, which can completely blow through a higher-level elite and trivialize it.Comment too long.
