>>97185716Dress was such a mess when it came to juggling its characters. It really felt like they fashioned a concept fit for 50 episode seasons and then chopped them down to 12. It's especially egregious when you binge through episodes. Literally nobody aside from one or two characters has any time to breathe. 99 percent of the cast is just completely underbaked.
not like this urara
I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:>n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0>Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128>Need a starter dungeon? Hello. Looking for recommendations of low powered CYOAs with at least decent worldbuilding/lore (doesn't have to be extensive), and preferably an element of the fantastical. As for what I mean by low-powered, I'm referring to what abilities you get. A skilled bender in Avatar The Last Airbender is too much, as a reference.
>>97185921> A skilled bender in Avatar The Last Airbender is too much, as a reference.so... normal guys?
>>97185921>A skilled bender in Avatar The Last Airbender is too muchis your upper limit throwing a fucking fireball
>>97185956Nah, good examples would be, e.g. Not-too-crazy wushu films (Crouching Tiger, e.g.), low tier magic charms, stuff on that level. It's for a story where I'm starting low and building upward. Gotta start LOW.
Rolled 6 (1d10)>>97185724
was the satanic panic real? did people actually think their kids were summoning demons over elfgames?
>>97185842But nowadays the woke mob consists of women I'd otherwise presumably want to fuck and has essentially eaten youth culture, most musical scenes, and every creative/fantastical/speculative fiction hobby.I'm from a rural area of a purple state and encountered approximately zero firsthand religious meddling in my interests or hobbies.Oh, wait, I was in a catholic family; that explains everything. This satan/demon cult stuff is mostly a protestant fever dream.
>>97184744Your framing is flawed. Let me explain. The topic for the thread is the satanic panic. It was a movement by religious fundamentalists, basically a kneejerk reaction, to the existence of concepts they disagreed with existing in culture and fiction. They got mad at rock and roll music, they got mad at musicians on music television, they got mad at books where there's magic, they got mad at games where there's magic and demons, etc. And it didn't just stop there; they were also throwing a fit about anything that didn't fit in with their traditional values. These moral guardians came from the church, and they were having their fear and anger stoked at anything that looked countercultural to their ideals. In the modern day, the moral guardians are still coming from the church, and they still hate anything that doesn't fit into their narrow view of how everyone should live. They're still doing it today, getting upset over the same kinds of things, but the battlefield of political discourse has shifted a bit. They still hate gays or anything else that isn't considered the "right" way to look at gender or sexuality. They scream that they're under attack when other ideologies than theirs are given any notice in the public space. Some of them are even still losing their minds over new fiction with witch characters. These people never changed who they vote for. We can even trace the history of their presence in political discourse. The religious primarily stayed out of matters until the civil rights movement, but then they switched sides and were courted to conservatism, where they got hopped up on the issues that I discussed above. It's the same groups. They're just extra upset that they're receiving more criticism now, and being called out for their hypocrisy and hatred.
>>97185169Doing that would just have some newfag bitching about "personal anecdotes not mattering" or some other fucking stupid complaint.
>>97185969It's not the same people, it's the same SORTS of people. A person who's over-concerned with the behavior of others, who loves taking on causes and enforcing rules, is identifiable in kindergarten. The ideology they wind up backing as an adult is determined by geographical and social factors, but the pearl-clutching behavior is the same. The people who are turbo-woke right now would be turbo-christian if they were born in a different era.
>>97186016The majority of SJWs and scolding christian moral busybodies are often cut from the same cloth of people who want to do good without consideration for the opinions or well-being of the people they're doing good for. Some do it because they genuinely believe this is the best use of their social status and acumen to do good even if it tramples over some people's feelings, but most do it just because they tell themselves it's justified and that others are too stupid to understand what's best for them. C.S. Lewis said it best, frankly.>"My contention is that good men (not bad men) consistently acting upon that position [imposing “the good”] would act as cruelly and unjustly as the greatest tyrants. They might in some respects act even worse. Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under of robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some points be satiated; but those who torment us for their own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to heaven yet at the same time likely to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on the level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals."

In your d&d (or possibly other fantasy settings) worlds, how open would a regular city guard and authorities be to letting in a well spoken, well dressed and apparently tame ogre or troll? Assuming he approached the gate politely and humbly?Would he be fired upon on sight or be let the chance to speak?>tqAt least 3 eggs I’d guess.
