The way I played it was, "if I was in the situation of the protagonist at the start of the cyoa, and for some unknown reason I was already precommited to picking among the 4 scenarios (as the protagonist has to), which one would I pick?"
And then I'd pick scenario #3 instead of #4, because even if I otherwise accepted the supernatural technology angle, the prospect of "using present day technology, we will build small boxes to lie in that are so durable that even in the next 2000 years, with all the technological advances to come, nobody can open them!" seemed way sketchy.
