Worked with green stuff after a long break, nurglites are thankfully very forgiving when it comes to stuff like this. After the greaves, the next step is making capes for them. I have some gsw texture plates, interested in seeing how they'll turn out.

I missed the window of warmer, above-freezing days to prime a couple last minis before winter. I still have 1 more stormfiend I need to clean and glue all the stupid little glowing gems too, and also bought a pick of kurnoth hunters that apparently is also going to be 500 hours of mold line cleaning, but the next window will be monday so hopefully I can get them done by then too.

I'm quite happy with the red one.
The black one looks too blueish. A warmer gray would have been a wiser choice.

Progress on my little Kill team Death Korps (formerly Veteran Guardsmen) is coming along.

Is it better to base the mini then prime it or better to just paint the whole miniature, varnish it then base it?

I use this and prime by brush, two coats and done. Could be helpful if, like me, you don't have a lot of minis to prime.

Assuming your knife is made of metal and not ceramic or Ohm-shell (or, perhaps, even if it is!), there are cyanoacrylate solvents - superglue remover - you can buy. Heck, Goof Off will dissolve that stuff, too, but it costs about $9.00US just for a small-ish can of the stuff.

What do you think?

>>94579265
That's nice.

>>94579322
I think that "still water" (I don't know if I can call it gel now) either soaked masking tape or flowed between tape and base itself. Like I mentioned, electric tape didn't leak but at the other hand, it ripped off solidified water solution at removal instead. At this point I think that solution for me would be either using gel water textures entirely instead or using them to form "wall" around to fill later. Don't know how to color gel itself, however - "still water" could be mixed with tiny amounts of paint but gel is much more thick.

If I want to sculpt a giant slug can I use plasticine for the bulk shape and cover it with a proper sculpting product that will set hard and seal it in?
>>
>>94579964
You could, but that seems like it'd end up being very heavy, fairly expensive and the plastecine will probably move while you're trying to sculpt on top of it.
Making an armature (in this case, just a simple tapering cylinder) from tin foil instead would get around those isssues.

Can you strip metal minis with Tamiya extra thin/airbrush cleaner?
>>
>>94580321
interesting, with the stackable corners and name plates they look a lot like Wyrd sprues, who have similarly fiddly minis. I wonder if they use the same factory or sprue designer.

It's safe to do so for metal models but it seems real wasteful.

I don't have any tools yet but I made this with a GW terrain tool as a proof of concept. Next step would be to get some green stuff to wrap around the milliput core and some proper tools to add detail to the GS layer?

>>
>>94583687
>Next step would be to get some green stuff to wrap around the milliput core and some proper tools to add detail to the GS layer?
that would be one way yeah, you can also do the bulking (what you did there with milliput) with crumpled tinfoil or anything really, since you are going to cover it

you can do the detailing with milliput, gs, a mix of the two or whatever else, different people like different putties, and some putties are better for different kinds of details like using gs for organic shapes in clothes vs brown stuff for hard edges on armor

as a general starting point get some small hard (usually black colored) silicon brushes and some stainless steel wax carving tools (the same as hobby ones but in bulk and cheaper)

Rogue hobbies is good looking, but the content is too focused on her (not in a vanity sense, I just mean it'll be her talking about some warhammer thing or some such, not painting) and only 1/4 of the videos are related to painting. Hobbynight is garbage talentless OF hack who is fully aware that nobody watches her for hobby content. There's the one autistic girl who is good at painting who's name I can't remember and will have to search for - Nuka Kitten, she's getting better at being less autistic in videos and is a pretty goo painter.

Total newfag to using plastic glue - what are the properties of the plastic when you apply the glue, or sprue goo? I have a large gap in a converted arm and was wondering if I need to use green stuff or could I stab a glued up sprue to the armpit like solder and fill it in that way. Does it get too liquid and messy to do this?

>>
J.F. in Shreveport LA did you receive your package? It says it was delivered earlier this week but I haven't seen you post. Are you waiting til christmas to open? Nothing is perishable in it
>>
>>94583950
you can make the goo by mixing sprue bits and glue on a cup or something (not plastic, it will melt) and then apply that to the model, you can control the thickness that way

still sprue goo is messy and sticky, if you have the time and patience I would almost always use putty, you can also try any 'air dry' putty like liquid green stuff or tamiya putty or any of the thousand brands, that solves the 'i don't want to wait for it to cure' problem and is usually good enough for gapfilling, you can also sand it
>>
>>94583950
I very often cut bits of sprue into thin slices to fill up larger gaps. If the slice/gap is too thin, I put the slice in first and then let the glue seep into the gap after it.
>>
>>94583950
I don't think people using spru goo qualify for total newfag status.
Excuse me for the terminology I'm about to use based only on how I use it and not formal definitions or what anybody else would mean by it.

Sprue goo will work good for a lot of gap *filling*, if there is still a solid part that will make the contact and stay put, and then the sprue goo can be used to build up any amount of missing plastic from the gap even if you need to do multiple applications.
What it won't do well on it's own is gap *bridging*. If there is no solid base to act as a structure while the sprue goo dries it won't be able to hold things together on it's own. In that case you would want to greenstuff or otherwise armature a core structure and then either just model the gap with milliput/greenstuff or if you wanted you could then spruegoo around that structure.
>>

Cheers anons, the thin cuts of sprue is what I was considering as using like solder, but while the shoulder is still technically connected I need to sculpt an armpit of some kind, it'll be mostly covered anyway by a shoulderpad but it still needs to be there. Will work on my green stuffing instead.

I have a WEN Rotary Tool - one of Horrible Freight's knock-off Chinesium brands - for when I need it.

Since you mentioned plastic and resin miniatures, and not a stack of old lead or pewter, anon, I'm gonna warn you: the applications for something like this should be few and far between. Even at the lowest speed setting, one wrong move with a moto-tool can seriously wreck something soft like plastic or resin. Be careful how you employ it.

Just so I'm not youtuber posting. Don't forget to thin your paints... uh... make sure you clean and condition your brushes more often than you probably are so they stay good for longer. Don't forget that acrylic primer isn't really primer.

Electric tools can be too rough on your minis unless you're doing something very large-scale. I'd recommend a small hobby saw and pin vise instead, especially for resin. Resin is soft and will melt under high-speed tooling.

Roll a worm, mush it in place, old paintbrush with water. If you want it shiny, wipe your finger down your nose and polish it smooth.
List of tools: wire cutters, small pliers, wire, fake greenstuff, milliput, water, brush, scalpel.

You can make tools out of wire. I have a pack of dentists tools but I just end up using a bit of wire and my fingers because the paint brush does nearly all the work.

I'm in the same boat here. I'm just assuming my match was going to wait until closer to Christmas and probably hasn't posted (or I haven't seen it)
>>
>>94587232
Thanks!

They're supposed to be very klingon, actually. Here's a quick c&p about why:

The Tarellians are a xenos race found throughout much of the Galaxy. Driven nearly to extinction by the Imperium, Tarellians tend to live a semi-nomadic lifestyle in the more lawless regions of space. A fiercely martial people, many of their number ply their trade as hired muscle. Indeed, the most probable way an average citizen of the Imperium may encounter a Tarellian is in their capacity as mercenaries and bodyguards, or else as brigands or raiders.

This has led to Tarellians being collectively referred to by the Gothic slur "Dog Soldiers". This derogatory term also reflects the fact that, to many humans, the harsh and guttural languages spoken by Tarellians sound similar to the barking of canids. Amidst the blind ignorance of the Imperium, this has, over the centuries, inspired legends and rumors about dog-headed xenos.

The Concept:
I think that the Brood Scum heads from Hive Secundus make for an excellent minor xenos race. The Tarellians appear here and there in the 40k lore, with one image of a "Tarellian Dog Soldier" appearing in the 3d ed rulebook (alongside an earlier concept of the Kroot).

I thought it would be fun if the term "Dog Soldier" wasn't literal, but actually a testament to the xenophobia and ignorance of the Imperium. I thought this appropriate because in real life pre-modern Europe, there existed misconceptions about foreign parts of the world being inhabited by dog-headed people. So, maybe Tarellians arent literally dog aliens, but the misconception exists because of some form of prejudice.

Because I used the Uruk-Hai as the inspiration for their skin tone, I wanted to use a hand print motif on the cape. The pattern I used was inspired by real-world prehistoric cave art.

That's a nice handcape

I've made a post a few days ago that DHL fucked with my gift, but apparently someone with some sense finally looked at the parcel, read my address there, and delivered it to my house instead of shipping everything back to the UK (like the tracking info says they do).

Many thanks for your kind gift UK Anon.
They rough handled the parcel a bit it seems, but thanks to the bubble wrap, everything seems to be intact more or less. Some guys lost their arms or a base, but it might have been their status before anywway.
Pic related is everything still wrapped. (minus some chocolate bars of which my gf claims they are very good, so she took them).

And the 2nd half.
A rhino, some metal scouts, even more plastic firstborn, 3 bikes, and a pile of bits like bolters, backpacks and other arms. Also 2 metal characters, one is a runepriest i think.
And the mentioned chocoloates.

Also a sprue of the (now old) plastic commisar. He will indeed end up in my traitor regiment.

Its basically exactly what i asked for. I never had a space marine army (always played guard, since 3rd edition) but now i have close to 100 bodies to work with to make a nice oldschool chapter. (Maybe i keep some of the space wolves, they are painted quite nice actually. It would feel bad to strip them).
But the rest goes into a bath of IPA later today already.

So, thanks again UK-Anon. Merry Christmas to you and your family too!
