I love variant rabbit holes, thanks to those that collect and publish this info for us lazy anons to find. I made this thread to see if anyone has random variant sites, pics, fun to share.

This is just sad.
It looks like a collection of sad mistakes, over exhausted slave/child/prison labor with no QC or even American distributor checks due to them being very minor discrepancies. I mean, light blue versus 'slightly darker blue' is just stupid nonsense, trying to make something out of nothing.

At least this looks intentional: >>11660404

Toy-makers did lots of deliberate variants as well as "running changes" in the 90s. You should count how many variants there are of POTF2 red-card Boba Fett. It was normal, and collectors loved it.

Oh, sorry, I don't see much variety. These ones? I know I could find the real ones somewhere but I'm not willing to pay much + shipping for that
>>
>>11666590
Obviously, any Number 57 stuff can be modified with paint to fit a certain aesthetic. The more recent Oni and Police robots with their new pre-assembled inner frame have good stature and could go well with the 30MM kit you have. I’d also recommend the soldier kits, though they come with a lot of armor options that change them from snipers to scouts. If you have spare inner frames, the Hunting Tooth bike/beast kit comes with a nice soldier armor set, as well.

I would recommend Gray Baskyrottos, though.

What are you even supposed to do in a situation like that?

I didn't see any foty threads so I thought I would make one myself hope that's ok >.<

Feel free to post your top figure(s) and discuss other anons'. I picked 5 for myself but you can pick more or less. These are probably my favorites from the year in order from 1-5

>1. Black Series Anakin
Long over due but wait was worth it. He is really well designed and face likeness is easily one of the best, if not the best in the line. I am sad I couldn't get the SDCC Mustafar duel set with the extra heads and hands but even without them he is fantastic.

>2. S.H.Figuarts Romance Dawn Zoro
Zoro is really fun to pose. Double knees would have been nice but even without them you can get him into a lot of cool poses.

>3. Figma Laios
Idk I just like Laios and I'm glad they are making Dungeonmeshi figures. They will make for nice comfy displays and I am looking forward to the rest.

>4. S.H.Figuarts Rei Ayanami
This one surprised me how much I like her. She has really good articulation and all the joints feel nice and smooth. desu I am an Asuka fag and don't really even care that much about Rei so I might have put Asuka on the list instead but I won't be getting her before the year ends.

>everything i want now is street dated or a preorder
>companies hold off everything in store for shitty "bomb" style drop events every 3 months or so with barely anything releasing in between
Anyone else fucking pissed off by this shit? Target especially is infamous for this shit, as alot of figures have non manufacturer street dates now that target themselves arbitrarily puts on items for their shitty reset date. Its a recent move too like within the past 3 years or so its gotten to be the norm. Whats worse is that nothing new releases around christmas time at all now, despite 10+ years ago thats when all the new toys would usually come out. Intentionally baiting people for months on end with no new product in between just enrages customers imo.

You should ask yourself why you need all these toys. You dont have to answer me nor anyone else, but you need to know if that benefits you at all in the longest possible run. It almost sounds like you buy for the sake of buying, and only live for the hunt. But then youre just leaving behind what you have, thus making this whole collecting thing pointless. You should keep on playing with your current toys, and do what it takes to make them really earn their place there
>>
>>11660768
I already said im keeping alot of toys that i already have, but alot of stuff i really just dont want anymore
>It almost sounds like you buy for the sake of buying, and only live for the hunt.
Yeah that tracks, i really do impulse buy alot to my detriment
>>But then youre just leaving behind what you have, thus making this whole collecting thing pointless.
Its early in the morning and i feel retarded in the mind but i dont fully understand that part, could you elaborate?
>>
>>11660746
If you forget or don't keep track of what you have on order, that's on you bud.
>>
>>11660769
You only buy toys for the sake retail therapy. Now that you have them, they''ve practically become a mass of "generic filler objects" in your room that serves no purpose, because the pursuit is something you crave instead. You can believe that isn't normal, but it IS relatable and something all of us on /toy/ still do everyday.

The cure or treatment is actually making time to play with your toys. Whoosh them around, imagine stories with them, arrange them on your shelves, and/or try all the poses they can do. By doing this you'll actually see and feel the value of what you bought. When you ultimately decide you have to get rid of them, think about ebay, goodwill, a Book Off if you have one, or extra off-site storage just for the sake of clearing out your room temporarily and see all the space you have all along. The reality is that you will buy toys again, but at least your mind will be clearer after all that.
>>
>>11660145
Now target is putting everything that i want behind a street date for the 11th despite the fact they have it in the back. Why do they want to lose money? Why are they waiting until over a week into janurary to release stuff that shouldve been out at christmas time. Why are they so litigious about street dates why do they want to piss customers off?

All corporate PR statement sound like chatGPT. It doesn't really matter. It could be a human fake message or a chatGPT fake message either way. We won't know until toy sites start widely reporting it. And if it's just Mexico affected they may not even do so on english speaking toy news sites.

How do artists go about copyright and trademarks? I know the Japanese have some sort of free pass when it comes to Comiket and WonFes but what about the rest of the world? Do artists ride on the line of parody and such? I know if they get big enough they could get legit collabs and stuff

Looks to be fairly generic black knight dude, without painting easiest option is the Warrior/Revenant Legionscon set. The chest armor is more jagged and rough looking, but it has an accurate helmet option (minus the feathers), uses the newer and more articulate build and will be easy to pick up as his retail version should be going up for sale in the next month or two.

https://sourcehorsemen.com/mythic-legions/entry/the-warrior

If you really, REALLY want to get into the weeds of things and start popping and swapping and up various bits and pieces, then you could probably make an almost exact build of what's shown in these fan arts. It would be way more expensive and involve tracking down some potentially rare parts from popular figures, but it's not entirely impossible.

I still would suggest starting with the Warrior figure mentioned above, but then you''d also need the torso from either the Valiant Knight or Sir Elijah, including their matching belts, then you'd probably want the pauldrons from the Unknown One as they'd line up nicely with the art. You could also swap out the Unknown One's shins to get that jagged layered armor look over the Warriors more sleek, traditional shins.

The cloak would probably be custom, though I'm sure if you googled around long enough you might find a decent fur cape in black. Off the top of my head, the Mezco Conan Barbarian weapon pack comes with one that fits Legion figures pretty well, you could always try to hunt down that set (Legions figures can use those weapons as well, assuming their hands haven't held any larger weapons prior).

As for the feather, Magnus comes with a thick black feather plume, but if you want a whispy hair one you'll have to go custom. The old Toybiz LotR Lurtz figure with the bow shooting gimmick has a pony tail bit you could easily pop off and mod to fit. Shouldn't be too hard to find a junker on ebay, and he's a pretty decent figure in his own right, even with a hair cut.

>I'd be interested in modern toys where they can nail the proportions more accurately

I dont know how they could do the two girls without massive parts forming if they did that
>>
The only way to really do a 'complete' version would be to have two sets of robots - action figures for the human-sized 'civilian-mode' Orbots, and blockier combining versions (which do appear in the animation, but very sparingly outside of stock footage).

Kickstarter's up to 76K now. Anyone think it'll reach goal?

Maybe. If its on the radar of bbts. They sometimes put in a big order to push a preorder over the line. They've done it with the ghostbusters haslabs. Then slap it on their website with a $100 slapped on top.

What is it, $300 for the actual combiner? How many more do they need to go over?
