Anyone have a single favorite figure? I've kept my favorite specimens from various lines on my desk and I'm about to paint my toy room so I've been packing things away and I've noticed that I've missed certain figures more than others but my absolute favorite figure is this particular PVG chick I've come to name Maeve. Also stop making retarded captchas
>>11658821I've got the dino-tism so it's gotta be one of my Allosaurs. It tought to choose with one though since I always keep them together.
>>11658821I do have a single favorite toy but it's not a 1/18 thing, or even a figure. After that I have sub favorites- for 1/18 across the board it would probably be acid rain Sol Commander. That was such a leap and the level of personality in both the sculpt and design and ability of articulation felt like a really special event, and is something that even many more current acid rain figures don't seem to match. Growing up my favorite was probably the shadows of the empire red guard luke. Dino wise 1/18 has got to be the Hammond collection Ghost, what a stellar dino toy.

I see they now branch into Bayverse too, I saw many Transformers G1 AMK Mini Series figures at my local store, are they good? I might get them. I like that they are cheap and wonder if the quality is good.

Has anyone else noticed that Chinese toymakers are basically putting out the best products in the boutique/high-end toy-space right now?>SexyIce muscled into TEST/Sentinel's space with a more active release schedule and better value.>Hiya muscling into SHMA's space, same as above>JoyToy dominating 1:18 scale and Warhammer franchise>INart and LPZZ dominating the high-end DC comics/live action spaceThose are just the ones I'm most familiar with due to my own collection, but I'm sure there's abunch more I'm not mentioning, there's a ton of 3rd party options in the DBZ and Transformers scenes that rival or surpass the "official" lines.
>>11658186My understanding is they're walking back the scale creep from the SM2 stuff due to feedback and are going to be doing everything at the "2.0 body" size going forwards. I think they made the SM2 stuff so big because the Marine models in the game are much larger compared to regular humans than previous depictions, and MUCH larger than how they scale on the tabletop (what JT was going by before) but most people hated it.The other big instance of scale creep was when the released the Terminators based on the older models first, then a few months later the bigger Termie models (which were obnoxiously large even compared to other Marines) were released and JT made bigger toys based on those. It is infuriating, though I will say scale in 40K full stop has been absolutely fucked since time immemorial and I think part of the scale flip-flopping is down to trying to please everyone- some people love Marines being fuckhueg whereas other people prefer them as big but not THAT big; I think they were originally supposed to be 7ft on average in universe. Myself I prefer the original releases sizewise, and I'm glad they backtracked on the scale creep. That said, it's been limited to Marines; the non-Marine releases have stayed consistently sized. Also as a (slight) cope Marins are not supposed to be all the same size in universe either. Some are gigantic even by their standards (Abaddon was noted as being HUGE even before the Heresy broke out) whilst others are abnormally short; I seem to recall there's at least one character in one of the novels who could pass as an extremely swole mortal.
>>11658248They kept the v4 SM2 body going for alpha legion, zephon and a few others till the complaints got loud enough and they backtracked. Then they got counter complaints and in their recent Livestream, they said they'll release some unspecified in the SM2 size. So now everyone is unhappy.Issue with size is things like tanks, bikes and their ATV doesn't fit the v4. Weapons on the v4 are undersized other than the collector's edition. Also, zephon has small head syndrome due to the larger v4 size. But yes, the rot started from GW not joytoy to be fair with their firstborn scale constantly creeping, but they should have learnt from GW
>>11658197Yeah, it's on that photo actually. If you are the anon from Gundamit, I need to thank you for the warning me about the miniguns, they require a good amount of force to move, so I held those rectangular bases to articulate them safely. Nothing fell off.
1000toys on notice now too.
>>11659317I wonder if Sexy Ice will someday do actual human faces and how they are gonna look like. Realistic? Anime? This Chinese anime-like South Korean plastic surgery samey faces? I'm curious.Still waiting for those attack dogs price. I like when there is a height and form difference in action-figure lines.

>>11659115Sure.
I know it's on the original prototype but it seems like such an odd decision to make the arms look uglier with the extra tabs just so you can swap the arms that aren't very different from each other.
>>11658243Yeah the actual episodes looking pretty comparable to the opening animation was incredibly rare at the time.

Been here since 2013 and about once a year I like to see where everyone's displays are at, if they've changed, what's new or if they even still collect. I've sold off a lot over the years, my SAS and Storm Collectibles displays are long gone, same with my SHF Dragonball stuff. Whole toy lines I thought I needed, turns out you don't really need any of this stuff. Even if it's just a purchase or two a year, I don't think I could ever leave the hobby. My space is not my space without my little vanity of cool bullshit.
>>11659636I had those. They were nice but I've switched over to the cube style acrylics. They come in different heights and, for me, are easier to use because of their size.
My Prime display. It’s a little cluttered.
>>11659636I just get the more or less cheapest ones on Amazon. Just look up acrylic risers and you'll find a ton for dirt cheap. Don't buy some special thing for displaying figures.
>>11659566If you think being a 42 year old man with a Disney princess display is a heterosexual endeavor then you're very very lost.
Ocean State Job Lot sells these "Pastry cases." It's a steel rack with three 1*1*1- foot plexiglass blocks with doors. I added a second shelf in each block. It's just 1 square foot plexiglass, and I used UV-bonding glue. They fit 1/48 jet models and 1/35 armor really nicely.

what up with these chinese toy makers claiming their figure is 1/12 when they are 1/10
>>11654335>No, it's just china who doesn't understand numbers, muchless scale.Marvel Legends collectors routinely call them 1:12 when they aren't.
>>11655449What country are Marvel Legends made in? Unless ML collectors boycott for a year or two Hasbro won't use a real scale. 6" is a made-up corpospeak term to cover for not having to actually consider scale for characters being smaller or larger.

aka cheap enough but looking good still
How do you feel about buying toys of stuff from movies you haven't seen, games you haven't played, etc? Not just like, I collect Marvel Legends and I haven't read any of the comics featuring this character but she looks cool so I'm adding her to my collection. I'm talking full on, this is from a property you know nothing about, if anyone asks you anything based on the assumption that you must be familiar with the source material you'll just have to shrug.Like, I like this vaguely evil looking chick. Never played Final Fantasy 16, have no plans to, have no idea who she is or what her deal is. But cool toy, kinda want it.
>>11657126I but action figures because it allow me to appreciate a design I like in different poses and different angle. So yes I buy things from shows I know much about as long I find the design appels to me in certain way and that figure isn't shit. For that figure OP mentioned, I wanted it at first as well but based on my previous experience with bring arts and watching review I ended up not buying it cause the quality isn't worth my time or money.
>>11657126Buy what you actually like. If you like it because it looks cool, then you have a reason to buy it. It's better than buying 100 boring bitches like Mon Mothman or Jocasta Mi that you bought just because you like Star Wars. That was my mistake. I should have just stuck to Cantina and Jabba's palace because I like the freaky aliens.
>>11657126I will not only buy figures from franchises I know nothing about, I have actually bought figures from franchises I actively *dislike*. I hate Overwatch and Fortnite as games, but I love some of their character designs and have figures from both lines. Fortnite especially had a LOT of good figures across four distinctly different toylines. I've also gotten Figma of characters from Fate and Shield Hero despite not caring about the former and actually hating the latter, because I felt they'd work well in my JRPG party. Even back as a kid/teen, I grabbed two different Art of War Guts figures because articulated fantasy figures were so rare and they both were really cool toys. At that point I didn't even know what Berserk was and couldn't even figure out the character's name since it was in half Japaneses. I'm a toy "collector" first and foremost, everything else is secondary. If the toy looks cool or the character looks interesting...and the price isn't too prohibitive...I'll certainly pick it up.
>>11657386>>11658902There's 2 types of collectors and a ton of overlap. The first is "character" collectors, who just want a representation of whatever MCU, tv show or anime they like. This is why funkos exist, some people just want their character in some form. The second are toy collectors, who buy toys based on the toy itself, rather than the franchise it's attached to. I assumed there was a ton of overlap between the 2, like I buy all Classified because I love Gi Joe, but also buy shit I don't know about and looks cool, and then some military toys of franchises I don't know because it could fit with Joes.
>>11657482It's Boring as fuck tho, some movies are good but thats itGunplas are really cool tho, wish they make other model kits with that quality and ease of build
What are the domestic figures you've encountered with the worst and best torso articulation? Do you really value that capability or do you mostly find you don't use it in posing?I noticed this crazy disparity in size between the chest and the midsection of Spawn and it made me think of other cases where either the torso articulation is botched, looks bizarre or is good/better than expected.
>>11653739Some of these stactions you can barely see the points of articulation, its a bit crazy
>>11653937ill take that any fucking day over todds cuts
>>11653939It's also a 5" figure with all of that
>>11653330The Jada Cammy and Chun-Li do everything right with torso articulation IMO. Balljoints at chest and waist with good range in all directions and relatively clean sculpt cuts.
>>11658939Those are some especially nice figures. Im hoping to get dhalsim next, maybe bison or ryu too.

Is Mega actually fucking dead now? Will Mattel Brick shop EVER put out anything other than Hot Wheels? Why is Mattel rebranding Halo sets if they have not announced anything new? Does anyone know where can I buy an original body kun figure and not a cheap bootleg?
Are the bootlegs bad?
>>11655015go for the new body kun. the old one is lame, and you seriously don't want the wireframe one for art.
>>11657676>not for artwhy?
>>11658384nta but the wireframe is useless. you should start with 3d basic shapes and then sculpt the muscles onto it
>>11658384because it does the opposite of what they were meant to do. instead of curves and motion you get broken up shapes. the lines are meant to help yo with shape language, instead you get lines printed on fixed shapes that won't follow the action. it won't be any better than using normal action figures as reference material.
