>>82056717NTA. I'm a believer that a singular individual and their actions don't make a theme. It's more about the world around them and how it/they respond to the person and their actions. So many pieces of media that can be considered homophobic are done so largely because ONLY the villain is gay and no one else, aside maybe from the villains lover. If there is no other gay relationships in the story that can be shown to be good/neutral and the incest rape is only surface level shown to be the reason for all of this happening, then yes I would say it's easy to interpret it being homophobic. The only way you're going to get around that is to have it be shown that there was another way for the villain to be. The world itself, if not the main characters, has to be able to say that there was some way for him to have a gay relationship without being evil. Because if that is possible, then you can emphasize that it's just another cycle of an abused person becoming the abuser, which is a tale as old as time. The story doesn't have to shove it down anyone's throat to stop being homophobic; it just has to, at any point, show that it wasn't the gayness that caused villainy.
