Modern writers have a soullessness about them when it comes to writing female characters. They did something similar with Holly from Stranger Things(a trash show btw I only watched the final season of for the sake of a friend) who wears a necklace her brother gifted her to help her feel safe and confident after being bullied at school. When she loses the necklace(and her connection to the outside world) she is forced to consider the reason that keeps her going, the one thing in the world that keeps her connected to the tangible, and her conclusion is above all, it’s herself. I suppose it’s intended to feel empowering I.e. this young woman is finding herself but it’s so incredibly soulless and not at all subtle, not to mention totally unrealistic, unless you’re a sociopath you don’t think like this

They killed off the syndicate, the antagonists without resolving either Samantha and the alien colonization at the same time leading to Samantha becoming a ghost since every plot threat was just checklist.
