I almost never post on /tv/. Where do people stand on Star Trek TNG vs DS9 and is it strange to think DS9 is a better show?
>>214409458DS9 has fewer embarrassing episodes and was more professional in general but TNG obviously had vastly higher peaks.
>>214409458TNG started horribly and ended magnificently, and all and all I would say it is the most solidly-built single series of 'Trek. DS9 started on more even ground, had a brilliant mid-point, then fell off a cliff in quality for the final season. But at least it didn't get dragged on for twenty additional years in a series of mediocre to bad movies and a three-season spinoff where the only good part is the season trying to correct all the mistakes of its previous two thirds plus said movies. Then again I watched DS9 more recently so I might just remember it better.
>>214409458They're fundamentally different types of shows. TNG is a old-school "scenario of the week" sci fi show with charscters that stay essentially the same. DS9 is a show with a long term plot that spends much more time on character interactions snd development than on scenarios. They're both very good at what they're trying to do, but since they're trying to do different things it's completely reasonable people who value one type of show over another will prefer one show over the other regardless of specific critiques of the shows themselves.I've always preferred DS9 but that's mainly because I like the cast more than TNG. But DS9 was more about the cast than TNG was. I think episode-plots wise TNG is generally better, since the stories were more self contained and didn't get bogged down by previous bad decisions like DS9 did.Civil Defense is the best episode of any Star Trek show.
>>214409708For me? In The Pale Moonlight.
It's been a long time since I watched either, but I think they're equal, which in itself is an impressive achievement for DS9.VOY is also underrated.
Everyone is saying it's kino
>>214409906
>>214410202I've seen people say this is unbelievably high praise, but "the best major American studio film of the last 15 years" has a reasonable number of qualifiers. Could easily be true.
>>214407867Why is it only ever these light-skinned mixed-race black girls who ever seem to become famous, or be given the chance to star in a movie, etc?
>>214409826>PTA is the only hollywood director making movies for adultsBut wouldn't that explain why his movies have either flopped or been lucky to break-even at the box-office? The majority of movies aren't targetted at adults for a reason?

>>214404275The series is almost 50 years old, it has all kinds of different media in its universe. From campy cash grabs to action movies. most people got over them not recreating the first movie every time like 20 years ago. This show has some dumb stuff in it but the writing is way better than most shows, and even better than some of the alien movies.

>>214410040She looks like she is about to rewind time and molest a bluehaired bitch...to bad that theres no way Emma is gonna work in a shitty Amazon Prime show that is not gonna make it to s2.

>>214410410She is playing the naked whore who gets abused by the killer throughout the film. However, what was described as cutscenes to her were really just scenes that were cut. Ultimately, she played herself.Checkout this combover
>The series would follow Ross’s son Ben, now a 30 years old career-driven young man, whose life is upended when his wild child younger sister Emma decides to move in with him in New York City and slowly bonds with Ben and his group of friends. Cole Sprouse, who played Ben in the original show, is being courted to headline the show.
Leaked casting call>BEN (Main): Ross’s son, a career-driven young man whose carefully organized life is thrown into turmoil by the arrival of his freewheeling sister Emma.>EMMA (Main): Ben’s adventurous, fun-loving wreck of a sister who decides to crash with him and start taking life seriously after her parents cut her off for dropping out of college.>JAY (Main): Ben’s best friend, an effortlessly charming sports fanatic working odd jobs while pursuing his lifelong dream of going pro.>ANIKA (Main): Ben’s co-worker, a sharp-witted, laser-focused career woman with whom Ben has a love-hate relationship.>MAYA (Main): Emma’s best friend, a passionate activist who tags along with Emma in search of a fresh start, and ends up sharing an apartment with Anika.>MILES (Main): Jay’s roommate, the perpetually bored heir to a wealthy family who spends his days chasing thrills and pulling his friends into his schemes.>LAURA (Recurring): Ben’s ex-girlfriend, an online columnist who broke up with him due to his constant neglect of their relationship for his job.Comment too long. The only characters played by white actors will be Ross's kids and the show will fail
>>214410429I always thought that having a Friends type of follow up with Emma as the main character and Ben as the cool older brother was a shoe-in...but it never happened.

https://youtu.be/2kSNuohhKyc?si=G4kE4j1XHmpdO-36>Wayward whisks viewers to the seemingly idyllic town of Tall Pines, a place where sinister secrets lie just beneath the surface. When police officer Alex Dempsey (Mae Martin) and his pregnant wife Laura (Sarah Gadon) move to town, they encounter two desperate students, Abbie (Sydney Topliffe) and Leila (Alyvia Alyn Lind), from the local “troubled teen” school. As Alex digs deeper into a series of unsettling incidents, all signs point toward Evelyn (Toni Collette), the school’s enigmatic leader

The demand for this seems lowers than the demand was for the Snydercut. For example, say they canned the entire story, there wouldnt be a worldwide effort to get it continued.

What you're seeing now is my normal state of cope.>Anon, the first GI Joe made 300 million on a 175 million budget and still they made not one but TWO sequels that flopped even harder. Starship Troopers made 121 worldwide against a 105 million budget and got FOUR sequels. This is Super cope.>And then there is the King of Flopped Franchises, Terminator. 1 and 2 were big hits, 3 was ok, but the next 3 (Salvation, Genisys and Dark Fate) sank harder than the Titanic. Salvation alone was so bad the studio went bankrupt.this is what is known as a cope that has ascended above a super cope. or, you could just call this a super cope....2. AND THIS... IS TO GO EVEN FURTHER BEYOND!!!!>Getting a sequel means nothing, it's over.Super cope...3.
>>214410422Steaming is a reality you third world idiots will never get. Studios love it. They only kept movies in theaters as an agreement to theaters chains. But as soon Covid came along they used it as excuse to shorten the window time. Their justification was originally “well, a lot of people don’t feel comfortable yet going back to the theaters so we shouldn’t punish them.” Yet they haven’t reversed the short window post Covid and they are not going to. They do not want theaters taking 50% of profits. If anything they would love to go back to when studios owned theaters and took all profits but course broke it up because monopoly laws

>>214409247Periods in color film are often defined by new technologies in cameras, film stock and projection. With technicolor they shot everything on three separate strips of monochrome film in different colors which when projected resulted in a full color image. Looked great but cost a lot and you basically couldn't shoot outdoors since you couldn't control the lights to anywhere near the level you'd want. By the time the 70s rolls around they're releasing high sensitivy color film and now you can shoot in low light conditions and often without any artificial lighting at all but that came at the cost of colors being thin as you put it. This is when people lile Kubrick decides to make movies like Barry Lyndon which has several famous low light and/or natural light scenes that wouldn't have been possible to do in color until that point.
