No direct equivalent really comes to mind.
Most of the older classic dramas that got crazy TV viewership were period pieces (like Sandglass, Jang Dae-geum, Heo Jun, etc) or romances (like Lovers in Paris, Star in my Heart, My Lovely Sam-soon, etc). The crime genre was moreso associated with the film industry rather than dramas. Which isn't to say crime dramas don't/didn't exist (cable network OCN being a big contributor), melodramas and romances just tend to be more prevalent.

Up to you to decide really. There's more money in the k-drama industry nowadays, so there's a greater variety of things to watch if you don't like romance/melos/sageuks. Sounds like Korean cinema might suit your tastes better though

There's a few reasons its done. One is that they often shoot on large open sets (at least all the historical dramas do). Capturing the audio, especially with a lot of background noise, can be almost impossible. It's simply easier to dub it all later. Secondly the authorities have a hard-on for wanting everyone in China to speak "perfect" mandarin with no accents, so if the actor has an accent they get someone else to dub their lines.

Now saying all that there has been a push in recent years for more of the famous actors to use their real voices, even the local fans hate dubbing of their favorites, and I have noticed its less prevalent that it used to be.

Malicious Empress is the "big" one. The webnovel is insanely popular, and all just very well written, and set the bar for all such stories (it's been copied / plagiarised like hell). Fuck knows how they'll adapt it though. It's probably the darkest of them all. The FL is genuinely viscous, kills people, and the first big revenge arc is centred around rape. It's popularity is why there are so many rumours about the cast right now, interest in it is insanely high.

After that Female General is what most people are looking forward to. Good cast and not a low budget production. I don't know enough about the rest to comment.

Watched about a dozen cdramas and only one was ok. I am tired of kdramas now. A few new are good but mostly the current kdramas are a poor mishmash of the same. I watch jdramas for variety and the actors (male and female) can actually act and the characters believable.

I'd say more like only 75% for the first half and then it get super serious and cringe with the LGBT love story, the comedy takes a back seat and this is where I can't tell you more because I dropped it at that point since I was skipping like 2/rd of each episode
But when it's funny, yes it's super funny and the actress is genuinely amazing

I haven't watched Freaking Fairytale but plan to as well as Day and Night. There are some good ones but after watching over a 100 kdramas many are just not good. One big complaint is many of the male and female leads have no chemistry and not good enough actors to cover. Suffering through Chief Detective 1958 but when I compare it to an Indonesian drama I just watched, Cigarette Girl, or a Japanese show, Quartet, Chief Detective is a cartoon. I do watch many older kdrama on Viki so that helps.
