Friday the 13th remake was good. The atmosphere is top notch. I like the Supernatural actor and the women in this are all hot. Bag head Jason and hockey mask in one movie is great. Soundtrack was also very good.

It's funny/weird that the same people who despise critical theory - in particular that critical theory seeks to find progressive critiques of literally any and every work of fiction, no matter how neutral or mundane they may be - are the same people who accuse every single movie/show/fiction nowadays of having a progressive agenda, no matter how neutral or mundane they may be.You are exactly the type of person you despise.

Watched Oddity, found it aggressively mediocre. It kinda gave away its (admittedly very obvious) twist at the same time as the movie really got going (halfway into its runtime).Biggest crime was the waste of a concept. I know want a film about keeper of curios fighting off home invaders using nothing but cursed objects.
>>204025272that does sound like a cool concept. it reminds me of the parts in Resolution when the sober friend kept finding random creepy artifacts.
Fulci makes literal slop. The plots are nonsensical, the characters are boring as shit and forgettable, the dialogue is always dull and poorly dubbed, and the films are simply just not interesting enough to keep anyone's attention so you just sit there and patiently wait for some decent gore every 20+ minutes in between all the slow and reptitive shit. >>204025655Probably Noroi. The shot of the boy caught me really off guard, last time I was unsettled by a horror.I'm not sure if I was scared of it exactly but the last shot of Incantation was a great payoff (and a decent movie in general), only Lake Mungo bettered it on a build up to one moment.

>>204025272This. I understand why people like it and choose to resonate with what it did well, but it was just a bit too thin for me. The culture of "I have to have the newest release of digital device X" didn't exist yet. It was "are you still listening to tapes or are you listening to CDs" and the idea of mp3s were still most widely known as that embedded audio file on a webpage. I think I got my first iPod in 2004 or 2005 and it was the first luxury item I had bought as an adult in my life.
>>204026431You know what, I take that back. I was using napster in the late 90s and limewire in the early 2000s and was definitely burning mp3s onto CDs. I got some of that wrong but I'm pretty sure the majority of American teens had a discman over an mp3 player in 2003.

>>204028273>super summerEvery time I leave the house in summer I get swarmed by bugs. I'm like Pigpen from the Peanuts cartoons. I fucking hate it. I prefer colder temps.
>>204017452I don't like Michael and Lauri being siblings but I will never understand the hate for this movie, it's leagues above all the sequels that came after until 2018.

What did you think of Brain Damage? I enjoyed it but it was kind of just a worse Little Shop of Horrors. That blowjob scene was a great camp death scene, though.
Are the v/h/s movies worth watching?I might start with the first one tonight
>>204028968been seeing this question a lot this year. I don't even know how to answer it for newbs this young and new to the genre desu. yes? they're formally interesting and varied in content and quality. they represent their era well but lots of people hate them and there are better anthologies you could watch but V/H/S are very popular if you want one with discourse around it to engage in
>>204029266What anthologies do you recommend? I really liked Creepshow. Leslie Nielsen was a surprisingly good and effective horror actor, I was impressed.
>>204029319He started as a serious drama actor

It was good. Not sure how good it was (pretty good or really, really good). I'm going to have to sit on this and maybe not know until a rewatch a year or two down the line finds its time. It toes the line between thoughtful, poignant indie film and overly competent body horror and for whatever reason that's what's tripping me up on where this lands. The first half is incredibly strong as an indie thriller/drama. When the horror hits it starts to maybe take on too much for what it is, juggling the two genres. Without giving away spoilers, there's a lot missing within the exposition of the cause of what makes this a horror movie. But I think that's the movie's biggest fault and it's not terrible. The cinematography/editing and aesthetic is proficient and modern. This is not a movie you should just have on in the background: the visual storytelling is very well crafted and if you don't have your eyes glued to the screen you may as well not watch it. The acting from the older side of the cast is really good but some of the younger cast, including the younger female lead, falls short in a lot of places - enough to pull you out of the moment, unfortunately. I think it's a must see if you're into new, intelligent and slick horror drama/storytelling.

>>204029417based cabin anon
>>204029482Much appreciated!>>204029494I liked it for the most part. Sam is one of the only successful new Halloween "mascots." The opening had a classic feel to it. The werewolf bit was great. There was definitely something just a little uninspiring about it, though. I'm having trouble putting it into words without sounding ridiculous. I want to call it the taint of modernity or something, like it being made in 2007 was the problem, but, hell, that was uncomfortably many years ago now.
>>204029494I wouldn't argue but it's got its fans and somewhat of a cult classic now
>>204029517Loved both Tales. I'll add the others.
Times you acted like Klaus Kinski
>>204027465Just finished this. It was very good. First time seeing it. Great visually and very atmospheric. Patrick Magee is an icon. I liked black kitty. Good soundtrack too.
>>204029417just you wait
>>204028968VHS and VHS 2 are supremely comfy /hor/ fare. VHS 3 is much worse but has one solid segment. The rest get increasingly terrible and unwatchable outside of maybe rubbernecking appeal.
Do you remember a scene in a film where someone's head explodes to reveal another, monstrous head under it, and it happens several times? I think one was a bug, most sure of that one. Another may have been more like a gray alien or something. The memory's very foggy and vague though.
>>204029663Probably the most unusual and unique adaptation of poe’s classic horror story, for starters the particular black cat has a kill count

i just started Oddity because of anons' comments earlier. i want to see cursed object warfare even if the movie turns out to be just okay.

Alright, here's my October horror sloppa list>Going to try and watch at least 2 per day>Tried to keep re-watches to a minimum for this years chart, as I want to watch some new films. So I've only seen like 10 of these before at most, it's nearly all things I've never seen>Include a few Halloween films, as I re-watch those every year I imagine a good majority of these will suck lmao. You guys have your charts made yet?
>>204030171I’m genuinely excited, one of my favorite times of the year has come again
>>204030267>ending with Cursevery tight

Nosferatu remake looks like it sucks. Last thing I need to see is a bunch of girls making soi faces into the camera with creepypasta filters.
>>204030612>Modern remake sucksWow, who could have guessed?

Why isn't the 2004 Salem's Lot on any streaming sites?
>>204031084Because it's gay.
>>204031102Yeah, but Rutger Hauer is in it.
i'm halfway through Oddity and i'm pretty sure i figured out what's going on here
>>204031117I will now watch your movie
>>204031117Download it off soulseek then. There's a decent 1080p rip there.
>>204031084It's on free-movies.to
i spoke too soon. i DEFINITELY figured out what's going on in this movie. honestly it's not bad so far, i like this kind of revenge tale. i'll be super disappointed if the curse scene is cool as fuck and blows the rest of this away like anons mentioned.
>>204031202I thought it was really boring and lame and gay desu
>>204031235i'm intrigued. it reminds me of The Ritual. i was invested, it wasn't that great, the watch wasn't a total bust.

>>204031117He should have been allowed to deliver that cowboy vampire monologue he wanted to improvise. Fuck the director. Both Salem's Lot movies were directed by unimaginative, visionless idiots.
