The movie turned out better than the kind of movie Kevin Smith could direct, entirely because Justin Long and Michael Parks are great actors. The Johnny Depp cameo was also pretty good.

Rewatched this, forgot how cynical it is. A majority of the deaths in the first half are people doing the right thing/we know enough to care about. So fucking good though, even better on rewatch.sad it performed like shit in the box office so we didn’t get more Creature Feature revivals in the last leg of the 80s.

No, it was definitely still the second half. I'm a big fan of Hammer and that didn't come until late 50s and into the 60s and 70s. I understand there are fans of the classic Universal era, but if you think that beats what came later then you lose, good day sir.

What if the dividing line was 1975? Just to make it fair for the first 20 years or so there wasn’t feature length horror films.so this includes Hammer, Texas Chainsaw, Rosemarys Baby, Exorcist, Psycho, the golden era of Corman, Amicus anthologies, and those early exploitation flicks like Last House on the Left or Hershell Gordon Lewis. Then its a lots closer

It's Rob Zombie playing Tarantino and cranking the movie references up as high as he can, but it came out well. The first half was done tastefully and the second half was an entertaining Quasimodo vs Santo film. Bill Mosely was at his best, and the new half-brother character was a great addition and replacement for Sid Haig/Spalding

31 Nights of Horror, 2024
>Day 1: Vampire Circus
Liked it. A quarantined German town is visited by a travelling circus of gypsy vampires. Normally 70s stuff tends to bore me, but this one kept my interest the whole time. Plot moves along at a good clip, and the frequent graphic nudity also helps a lot (There's one early scene you really won't believe) However, the special effects are transparently shitty and the pacing goes to hell in the last 20 minutes. That aside, it's a pretty solidly constructed film that applies the classic "Vampire + some other shit" formula about as well as any. Would recommend.
>Day 2: Lair of the White Worm
Absolutely loved it. /hor/ has been recommending this for a long time, so I added it even though horror/comedy isn't normally my thing.
This one is brilliant. Another absurdly sexy movie, so we're two for two now. The characters are all very likable and the plot is a ton of fun. Would recommend.
>Day 3: Nightbreed
Pretty good. This picture looked like it had a super high budget, making a real visual feast. Maximalist practical effects absolutely fill wide-screen shots of the underground monster city, and the prosthetics department went apeshit on the character designs. The plot is janky - even watching the director's cut, the script felt stepped-on. Still, visuals it worth watching. Really not a horror flick.

Day 4: From Beyond
Fucking awesome. Fun, fun Lovecraft adaptation in the vein of Reanimator. SFX are suitably gross, plot is fast and engaging, the whole thing's a treat. Manages to put a hell of a twist on the original story too, with a villain best described as "What if The Thing was a sex pervert?" and a hot mad scientist lady who makes you want to date an insane genius yourself, damn the risks. Man, I loved it.
Day 5: VHS Beyond
This was pretty good. VHS flicks normally have at least one or two incredibly retarded segments. This one didn't - every bit was at least decent and a couple of them were fantastic. It might actually be my favorite of the VHS films so far. Anthologies are always fun regardless but this really was a nice surprise.

Okay. First I should say I never seen VHS 1 or 2, which are apparently much better. (Before someone asks how could Beyond be my favorite, it's simply my favorite out of the entries I've seen) But:
>Cops solve the missing baby case
Good, fun zombie killing segment. Good enough plot with the rookie gaining respect, the fuckup loose cannon, etc. Monster was creative and memorable (stealing a baby and turning it into another monster is a scary reproduction concept that I can't believe I've never seen before). Action was fun and Halloweeny, especially the chain saw. Vidya vibes. Real fun.
>Designated Shitting Segment
The weakest. Reveal was semi spooky but too retarded. The anticipation was the best part, and it could have gone in much stronger directions.
>Skydiving with the Alien
My favorite. Super fucking tense with nonstop action. Memorable imagery (the parachute decapitation!) and a frightening premise even without the Ayys. Constant suspense, tension, and gore. Well done. (Alien design wasn't that great, too CGI)
>Getting done Doggystyle
I liked it, despite some people's shit talk. Body horror always does it for me, and I didn't anticipate it pre-reveal. Genuinely gross for a minute, but the "final result" dogmen were too retarded looking. The torture and amateur surgery is horrifying but it ended gay.
>Biomechanical Stowaway Surgery
Cool concept. Cool visuals... I think? I couldn't see shit. But if I COULD see, I bet it's cool. This segment literally just needed lights.
>The GAY meta plot
This part was GAY and RETARDED but whatever. "Payoff" alien looks like ass. What, it's pulling anal beads out of the dude? Whatever the fuck, I liked the segments.

it didn't really give her enough motive but I didn't mind it because it moved the plot in an interesting direction. probably should have been another character forcing her down. then the ending shit the bed in the same way the first did.
there is a big plot hole here though that wasn't in the first. if you had enough loyalists you'd just force people onto the platform over a period of time and make them all travel to the lowest floors where they can enforce the eating rules.

Terrifier is honestly a shit franchise
The films lack suspense
The films lack charm and feel too forced (the director is trying way too hard to make Art an icon)
The characters are unlikable, besides from the main girl in part 2 being hot
The villain is dumb looking
The gore is absurdly over-the-top, and not even in a fun way like Braindead
The films themselves look visually ugly
They try overly hard to be "gross" (The clown just HAS to smear shit on the wall okay!? The clown girl just HAS to squirt liquid shit on the floor okay!?)
The director is a coward who is trying to appeal to Deadmeat-adjacent faggots (Showing a guy get a chainsaw up his ass!? OH MY SCIENCE, TAKE MY UPVOTE! Showing a...pussy? Umm....yeah how about no? Yikes!)
It's garbage

Beezel lacked punch. The format meant they just did the same monster reveal 3 times, and the final segment lacked any real payoff. NTA but the sad fact is that the shitty anthologies for free on Prime are more likely to have at least one good segment than any VHS film after the first one. Which is probably because the shittier ones just throw a wraparound over a handful of shorts that were produced independently.

I have a great idea for a horror film. When people think of the Middle Ages in the context of horror movies, it usually either involves vampires, demonic possession, or burning witches (which was more of an early modern thing). People don’t tend to think of gore and slasher type violence. My idea is an anthology of real life events, including the murder of Thomas Becket, the execution of Peter Stumpp, and the…um…accidental burning to death of Charles III of Navarre.

Just make a movie about medieval Jews sacrificing Christian children in their demonic rituals, since that also happened

Just do a modern day genital mutilation themed horror film and then kill yourself via 2 slugs to the back of your brain. I promise you'll get mentioned ITT's at least once maybe twice.

It's insane that Terry O'Quinn didn't have a bigger career.

Because the subject upsets others? To the point they become violent? It's nothing to do with me, anon. I'm just stating facts. Baby mutilators are not exactly forthcoming or polite people. No need to seethe about it on either end.
