Agreed with RLM that the opening 30 minutes is the best part when they are on the mining colony but disagree with them that the rest of the movie isn't good, thought it was pretty fun and intense. Best Alien movie since Aliens easily.

I also love Dracula Untold, Halloween 5 and Resident Evil Apocalypse.

>I also love Dracula Untold, Halloween 5 and Resident Evil Apocalypse.
haven't seen dracula but it looked particularly shit. halloween 5 is okay but drags on and apocalypse is seriously misunderstood, it's RE3 the movie and that's why it's great.
>>
Saw Strange Darling. Nice tight little film, but selling it as 70s exploitation does it and 70s exploitation a disservice. The told out of order gimmick works well. I fully believe that guy was a sociopath when in sequence it makes sense he doesn't have his truck radio on while doing blow because he started it up as soon as he could It's not very 70s, maybe a little Frankenheimer's paranoia, and you should be able to sell it as current exploitation. Not everything that uses red titling has to be 70s.
Other than that my only complaint was some girl legit took flash photos three times in the cinema during the movie. And not, oh shit I accidentally my camera, she turned on the preview lighting to make sure she got the shot right, then took the flash photo. Genuine sociopath shit on par with banging lines without music.

The book is one of my favourites and I love the Tobe Hooper version. It has the same max comfy feel as the book plus the vampire effects are amazing and spooky. The eye effects are creepy as shit. The only criticism I hear about it is that it’s kind of “boring” but if you like the book and how its appeal is small town slice of life for a lot of it, you won’t mind.
Haven’t seen the 00s version.
The new one I actually love the elements of, but it got studiocucked down from a 3 hour runtime to a 2 hour runtime (makes no sense because it’s direct to streaming anyway but producers gonna meddle i guess). The elements are all there, but most of the slice of life is gone, maybe wait to see if they release the directors cut with that version.

Great and not even overly fanserviced like some people said. It’s just a couple lines of dialogue at most and the returning android character. People sneedthed till their heads exploded about the autismo robot saying Ripley’s line but in a sperg way for no reason. It was a funny gag meant to make you kek. If Terminator 2 came out nowadays plebs would seethe about Arnold repeating lines from the first.

Went to see Terrifier 3 earlier. It's great, definitely better than Terrifier 1 but I don't think it beats Terrifier 2. It's total gorefest with great effects. Most of the movie is Art having a blast killing people and the drama with the main girl is dialed back, though still present. If you're one of the people that is "in on the joke" and gets a kick out of these movies, you'll definitely enjoy it. I think I had a smile on my face the entire time.

Kills include are Art ripping a guy's face off while whatsherface masturbates with a glass shard; the shower scene which includes Art sodomizing a guy with a chainsaw; the rat scene where Art takes a glass tube and shoves it down a woman's throat, hammers it in until it starts splitting her mouth apart, then shoves several rats in the tube and lights a blowtorch behind them so they eat their way into her throat, then slits her throat and the rats fall out (Art then stomps on the rats). We also get kills involving liquid nitrogen and Art blowing up children with a bomb, among other things.

Complaints: the movie felt a bit short and there were a few things that were offscreened that I felt like should've been shown, such as Sienna recovering the sword and the events at the fraternity involving Jonathan, though I suppose the latter will be shown in Terrifier 4 (the ending is directly leading into another sequel). The latter cut between the fraternity and the final act felt a bit jarring but this is a minor problem on the whole.

Overall it's another fun slasher if you're of the right mindset to understand that it's supposed to be funny and why.

Except most slashers only show the actual slasher for around 10-15m runtime at MOST
Terrifier has Art for most of the runtime and the kills are also extended, meanwhile someone in Friday the 13th is often killed by Jason in around 10-20s
I can see the Terrifier 3 runtime justified, Terrifier 2 is the one that had a lot of bloat though since most of the bloat had NOTHING to do with Art like Sienna's family/highscool roastie drama

amazing how all those slasher films were able to masterfully use the trend of never fully revealing the monster and are still talked about 50+ years later because they were made by filmmakers who actually understand the art

damian's best attribute as a filmmaker is he casts nothing but 8s for his damsels, and while that's good it isn't enough for the rest of the film, art is a boring character because he has no character

now you're just hating on it for the sake of hating on it considering Art is certainly unique enough compared to most other slashers that tried and were quickly forgotten outside of the big 80s ones/Ghostface

Even something like August Underground has a veneer of art to it, because in trying to seem like it's not art and instead real, this can only come off as if it's making an artistic statement. Terrifier doesn't care about any of that, it's just what it is. You want to have a ball watching people get slaughtered, here you go, there's no veneer over it that you're supposed to be rooting against the villain, or that you're supposed to feel negatively about what's going on, or that what you're watching is supposed to be realistic, none of that bullshit, it's just what it is.

>>
The more I think about Terrifier, the more I think it's a total evolution of the horror genre, but that it hasn't really sunk in yet. The fact that the films are successful shows that it's hitting the zeitgeist correctly and that audiences seem to understand at least subconsciously what's going on, but on a critical level I don't think it's there yet which is why you get such a negative reaction out of some people who are still trying to interpret the films by the old paradigms.

In Cabin Fever and Hostel you inhabit the victim and the movie is trying to horrify you with gore. They're traditional horror films, the opposite of Terrifier. That's gay. If I never get a clear shot of the main attraction then I'm going to be pissed. Not every movie can be Blair Witch Project, there's a reason the Friday the 13th movies have Jason literally burst through walls and jump at the camera. People want to see the horror part of the movie.
>>
>>204511224
>imagine watching Gremlins but they only show up at the end
For some reason there's a part of the "modern audience" that prefers that. I guess it's more elevated when you don't see anything.
>>
>>204513530
Well that's because ST borrowed that setup and aesthetic from dozens of stories and films that came before it.

>there's a reason the Friday the 13th movies have Jason literally burst through walls and jump at the camera

Currently watching The Houses October Built. Prime example of middle of the road 2010s found footage slop. I mean that with all loving affection because it's pretty decent. congratulations, you have autism.

How do we move the horror genre away from goreslop?
>>

A mainstream smash hit that's not goreslop. Then you'll get nothing but non-goreslops

Goresloppa will always exist in a niche capacity. Terrifier gets memed like it’s a mega hit but Longlegs was an actual normie hit. Non sloppa horror will always make the money and keep the sloppa at bay.

That 2000s killed horror by making gore slop popular
The 2010s were the final nail in the coffin by making Mcdonalds arthouse trauma metaphor slop popular
Both killed the genre

The Houses October Built was good. I'd recommend it to any found footage fan.

>Terrifier gets memed like it’s a mega hit but Longlegs was an actual normie hit.
What are you basing this on? In the normie spaces I frequent, I see near universal agreement that Longlegs was a letdown, meanwhile I saw a decent amount of hype for Terrifier 3.
>Non sloppa horror will always make the money and keep the sloppa at bay.
Maybe I'm retarded but I can't think of a non-goreslop horror that has done well in the last couple years. Maybe Alien Romulus but that's part of a massive franchise so I'm not counting that. I'm talking about new IPs.

This sounds soulful, as if you are enjoying a movie so much you wanna relive scenes right then and there. You are enjoying movies to their greatest extent. What movie took you all night?

I’d love to tell you but it’s embarrassing even for me to admit. It’s not /hor/ but someone did mention it here a few weeks back. Also it took place in real-time so it was like the whole film took place over a six hour span instead of two.
