I watched the new ‘Salem’s Lot twice bros probably will watch again this monthWhat mediocre-to-subpar horror movies do you have a special affinity with that you can’t make anyone else understand and don’t even pretend to yourself that it’s a misunderstood kino?I also love Dracula Untold, Halloween 5 and Resident Evil Apocalypse.
>>204509144>What mediocre-to-subpar horror movies do you have a special affinity with that you can’t make anyone else understand and don’t even pretend to yourself that it’s a misunderstood kino?89 phantom with robbie englund>I also love Dracula Untold, Halloween 5 and Resident Evil Apocalypse.haven't seen dracula but it looked particularly shit. halloween 5 is okay but drags on and apocalypse is seriously misunderstood, it's RE3 the movie and that's why it's great.
Saw Strange Darling. Nice tight little film, but selling it as 70s exploitation does it and 70s exploitation a disservice. The told out of order gimmick works well. I fully believe that guy was a sociopath when in sequence it makes sense he doesn't have his truck radio on while doing blow because he started it up as soon as he could It's not very 70s, maybe a little Frankenheimer's paranoia, and you should be able to sell it as current exploitation. Not everything that uses red titling has to be 70s. Other than that my only complaint was some girl legit took flash photos three times in the cinema during the movie. And not, oh shit I accidentally my camera, she turned on the preview lighting to make sure she got the shot right, then took the flash photo. Genuine sociopath shit on par with banging lines without music. >>204506574Wait is this ice nine as in Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle?
>>204499238fun fact, the actor who played Merton actually wrote and performed the theme song

>>204509601FBI agents look like that? Damn, I need to start jerking off more in case one is watching me.
>>204509533The book is one of my favourites and I love the Tobe Hooper version. It has the same max comfy feel as the book plus the vampire effects are amazing and spooky. The eye effects are creepy as shit. The only criticism I hear about it is that it’s kind of “boring” but if you like the book and how its appeal is small town slice of life for a lot of it, you won’t mind.Haven’t seen the 00s version. The new one I actually love the elements of, but it got studiocucked down from a 3 hour runtime to a 2 hour runtime (makes no sense because it’s direct to streaming anyway but producers gonna meddle i guess). The elements are all there, but most of the slice of life is gone, maybe wait to see if they release the directors cut with that version.
>>204506574https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bw-G4Ubof8
>>204506666Great and not even overly fanserviced like some people said. It’s just a couple lines of dialogue at most and the returning android character. People sneedthed till their heads exploded about the autismo robot saying Ripley’s line but in a sperg way for no reason. It was a funny gag meant to make you kek. If Terminator 2 came out nowadays plebs would seethe about Arnold repeating lines from the first.
>>204507421this movie is better that it has any right to be. will be rewatching it this october desu

Went to see Terrifier 3 earlier. It's great, definitely better than Terrifier 1 but I don't think it beats Terrifier 2. It's total gorefest with great effects. Most of the movie is Art having a blast killing people and the drama with the main girl is dialed back, though still present. If you're one of the people that is "in on the joke" and gets a kick out of these movies, you'll definitely enjoy it. I think I had a smile on my face the entire time.Kills include are Art ripping a guy's face off while whatsherface masturbates with a glass shard; the shower scene which includes Art sodomizing a guy with a chainsaw; the rat scene where Art takes a glass tube and shoves it down a woman's throat, hammers it in until it starts splitting her mouth apart, then shoves several rats in the tube and lights a blowtorch behind them so they eat their way into her throat, then slits her throat and the rats fall out (Art then stomps on the rats). We also get kills involving liquid nitrogen and Art blowing up children with a bomb, among other things.Complaints: the movie felt a bit short and there were a few things that were offscreened that I felt like should've been shown, such as Sienna recovering the sword and the events at the fraternity involving Jonathan, though I suppose the latter will be shown in Terrifier 4 (the ending is directly leading into another sequel). The latter cut between the fraternity and the final act felt a bit jarring but this is a minor problem on the whole.Overall it's another fun slasher if you're of the right mindset to understand that it's supposed to be funny and why.
>>204510674>felt a bit shortnigga it’s a 2 hour slasher movie it’s too long

>>204510674>the movie felt a bit shortI thought the runtime was perfect. It felt neither too short nor did it overstay its welcome.
>>204510577For me it’s Lara Wendel gf
>>204510730nta but he's partially right, the standard 90-100 minute three-act structure is perfect for slashers. i like a longer film but when you hit the 2-hour, 4-act structure you have to keep intact and not lose the plot
>>204510730it's about time we had a generation that actually called out self-indulgent filmmakers desuanything longer than 2 hours is just obnoxious
>>204510768If it had shown more at the fraternity I would agree, it felt a bit short to me because of the cut there.
>>204510730Based zoomies refusing to swallow some 80 iq “auteur” slop from some moron who thinks he’s making the next horror icon2 hours is vastly too long for a literally plotless gore film.

>>204510784Except most slashers only show the actual slasher for around 10-15m runtime at MOSTTerrifier has Art for most of the runtime and the kills are also extended, meanwhile someone in Friday the 13th is often killed by Jason in around 10-20sI can see the Terrifier 3 runtime justified, Terrifier 2 is the one that had a lot of bloat though since most of the bloat had NOTHING to do with Art like Sienna's family/highscool roastie drama

imagine complaining about Terrifier in a horror thread just because it's getting popular.Reminder it's the same kind of schizo who would call Friday the 13th etc. worthless filth in the 80s but now claims it's good just because they're established movies/franchises of renown

>>204511076How’s this?
>>204511342Even something like August Underground has a veneer of art to it, because in trying to seem like it's not art and instead real, this can only come off as if it's making an artistic statement. Terrifier doesn't care about any of that, it's just what it is. You want to have a ball watching people get slaughtered, here you go, there's no veneer over it that you're supposed to be rooting against the villain, or that you're supposed to feel negatively about what's going on, or that what you're watching is supposed to be realistic, none of that bullshit, it's just what it is.
>>204511537>Organic slasherkino vs shilled astroturfed dishonest slopChrist, anon. The more I think about Terrifier, the more I think it's a total evolution of the horror genre, but that it hasn't really sunk in yet. The fact that the films are successful shows that it's hitting the zeitgeist correctly and that audiences seem to understand at least subconsciously what's going on, but on a critical level I don't think it's there yet which is why you get such a negative reaction out of some people who are still trying to interpret the films by the old paradigms.

>>204512481In Cabin Fever and Hostel you inhabit the victim and the movie is trying to horrify you with gore. They're traditional horror films, the opposite of Terrifier. >>204514449on the part of the anthology creators, yeah
>>204514507haven't seen Asylum, but since you named Body Bags which DEFINITELY has some low points I don't have a lot of faith in your Asylum rec

>>204514541ok fair enough i haven't actually seen body bags lol it just always gets tossed around in horror anthology discussionsbut asylum is 70s kino
>>204511815kek. i'd totally watch a pajeet adaptation

How many movies have you managed to watch so far anons and do you think you’re finna boutta manage to reach 31 this spooka season? I’m at 9 so far and I think I’m gonna make it especially since I’ll cover a lot of ground on weekends where I watch multiple a day. Also name your favourite you discovered this month. I watched Haute Tension for the first time and enjoyed it even though it was fucking retarded.
>>204514459My last one was for saying I needed Elle Fanning to sit on my faceI don't see what's so unreasonable about that
>>204514563ill check it out I've seen most of the other Amicus anthologies
>>204514782Seems like it would be unreasonable to not want that
>>204514763Coincidentally, I’m also at 9. I’ve been seriously slacking.
>>204514763Maybe 9 or 10 movies so far? Mostly just been watching stuff I've already seen. I enjoyed Lords of Salem, that was a new watch. I might give RZ's Halloween movies another try if I can suffer through his infatuation with poor white trash.
>>204514782>>204514816
>>204514816>>204514873I get pink eye for she
>>204514512monique gabrielterror toons
>>204514846Be sure to watch the director cuts of them, i rewatched H2 recently and it’s my favourite RZkino now.

>>204514429All three stories in Three Extremes were good

Why are the Nightmare, Hellraiser and TCM sequels so fucking unwatchable compared to the Halloween and Friday ones brosI guess the comfy factor of the last 2 saves them.
>>20451476332, which is a lower pace than last year. I need to pick up the pace.
>>204514985Didn't recognize her, i remember watching her Emmanuelle on late night cable when i was 14.

>>204515033It's supposed to be available on Amazon tomorrow.
>>204515302>Dream warriors doesn't exist for anonJesus how do you cope?
>watch Alien>the salvage crew has a flamethrowerKind of weird>and a fucking harpoon gun?????????What???????What would you need a hand held harpoon gun for when tow derelict space structures (it didn't look like a ship maybe a space station?) around? Also the Alien was a total cunt
>watching lisa frankenstein>she's watching day of the dead>RHODES is on the tvThis has to be kino
>>204515512m8 we could find the edges of the universe and the secrets of all life, and ppl would still want harpoon guns and crossbows
>>204506666best after Aliens
>>204515512maybe there's space pests and fauna you have to shoo away or spear sometimes. like a space sea otter that you need to harpoon off your ship
>>204506830which one, the stay away from her you bitch?
>>204515673Don't fuck with space sea otters, they're good boys
drinking 2 pints of guiness and watchng dawn of the dead theatrical cut on 4k
>>204515512>>204515673Harpoon gun is more than likely for when you're on a surface of a planet and need to navigate difficult terrain. Flamethrower is for no doubt like anon said for space pest and also probably space pirates.
>>204515747Good life choice
>>204515512It had a rope or whatever so it makes since for a derelict hunter crew. Sometimes in space it's easier to shoot and pull than risk getting lost in space
>>204510442Red State was awful. Only reason it's not Kevin Smith's worst is because he made Yoga Hosers and Tusk.
>>204515302for some reason I enjoy Hellrasier 4
Why the fuck does he talk like that? Was he perpetually drunk while doing ADR?
>>204515512They don’t have flamethrowers, Dallas tells Parker to make them. Brett made the cattle prod they have earlier as well. The harpoon is on the escape shuttle, not the Nostromo, so i guess it’s a part of some survival kit for landing on a planet.
Watching Prince of Darkness, what am I in for?
>>204515302watching 5 right now and it's alright
>>204515302I like dream master, mostly because of the amazing soundtrack.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW1giis3lBo>I’LL GIVE YOU ANYTHING ANYTHING ANYTHING
I feel like there's another universe where Laid to Rest is the big slasher of the modern day in place of Terrifier if the director didn't die before he could make the third one.
>>204514164What's a combine?
>>204515999Solid B grade Carpkino alongside In the Mouth of Madness and They live
>>204514782Probably because you posted it in 2014
>avoided Ghosts of Mars for years because of the terrible reception>finally get around to it>ITS FUCKING KINOIn 20 years it will be a classic just like the other Carpenter kinos that were shat on at release and got popular over the following years.
>>204516152nah it was just too silly
>>204515512>>204515969Not a salvage crew, long-haul truckers towing a refinery. And a line gun is a handy thing to have if you need to do EVA.

>>204516152It's decent enough if you don't notice all the little nods he did to his previous work. I'm surprised he didn't throw in an automated rover chasing them.
>>204511747Always wondered why this didn't get a movie adaptation.>Group of kids fighting spooky creatures in a small town>Egyptian evil>Gory brutal kid deathsHas the feel of IT.
I'm a big Oculus defender
>>204515302Nightmare On Elm Street 3 is better than 1.
Red State wasn’t really much of a “horror” movie but it was kino either way.
>>204516051
>>204516053Great apocalyptic horror beautifully shot and staged.
>>204516293And is enough of a cult film at this point to have received a high quality Blu-ray release in 2019, people are starting to like it. I doubt it will be considered one of his best but to be considered a solid C+ movie is what it deserves
Starting Wolfen, see you guys in a couple of hours.
Just watched Brain Damage. Not bad for what it is. The yelling was a little much, but the song was kek. Cucked by your own bro, lol, lmao even. What else did I think of it.
>BBBOOOYYY!!!
>sex offenders required to post "no candy" signs on Halloween>ruled unconstitutional by a judgeanother burger W for freedom
>>204516896I like Basket Case and Frankenhooker better but Brain Damage is definitely the filthiest and sleaziest.
Currently watching The Houses October Built. Prime example of middle of the road 2010s found footage slop. I mean that with all loving affection because it's pretty decent. The premise is one that sounds really good but has a high potential for being executed poorly and it's somewhere in between that. I'm leaning more toward done well and good fun rather than poor execution at the moment. The doll monster design is pretty badass, too.
>>204517088>currently watchingI hate the fact that everyone's attention span is so shot by social media, tiktok, jewtube shorts, etc. that they can't even spend 90-120 minutes focusing solely on a movie.Fix your fucking life, tripfag.
>>204514782the mod who banned you is clearly gay>>204515302>tcm next gen is badi want to kill you slowly and painfully
If you can't get down with some middle of the movie 4chan blogposting then don't ever fucking reply to me. Period.
I suppose i'll watch Water fo tnite cuz I like dat it follows shawdy
>>204516152people also thought escape from la was bad not realizing carpenter was making a shit film on purpose and that's part of why it's great>>204517157nta but once in a while it's fun to pause a movie and shitpost on /tv/ about it and then periodically pause to update the thread, retard. it's the closest thing some people here have to real friends (not me, i'm perfectly fine with watching a movie start to finish on my own or with people).
>>204517204*Watcheraw shieeeeet mane
>Lets Scare Jessica to Death>not actually about a plot to scare Jessica to death>just some dumb gay vampire ghost thing (but not gay enough to be 70s lesbo vampire sleaze kino)It was okay I guess. Definitely over hyped I think people talking it up so much does it a disservice.
>>204516492Dream Warriors is fucking stupid, Wes Craven was drunk when he made that one.

>>204517261chat gpt keeps trying to get me to watch that one, that and The Witch Who Came from the Sea
>>204517272based and proper take, dream warriors is actually what ruined NOES
>>204517216>it's fun to pause a movie and shitpost on /tv/ about itIt's not. I sit and watch 4+ hours of movies without ever looking at my phone, posting online, or anything. Just me and the movies, that's it.>>204517289No, because I'm not some retard that doesn't know how to pirate.
>>204517157I’ll be damned if you’re gonna make me defend a fucking tripfag.
>>204517353This is NOT bussin fr fr
>>204517157I’m personally getting worse to the point where I have to make a change. A movie that is an hour and a half long on average takes me about 3 hours to watch at this point because I have to constantly pause and check /hor/. I was proud of myself last night for making The Substance(2 hours 20 minutes) only last about 3 hours.
>>204517477No horror movie has any reason being over 2 hours, most horror movies don't have enough material past an hour and 45 minutes.
>>204517547Yeah I won’t really argue with that
>>204516546On the 'flix, are we?
>Under ParisWhat are the super reproducing sharks eating in the rivers of major cities to gain the energy to make babies? How did blowing up a bunch of old WW2 shells in a river make a tidal wave and flood a lot of Paris????Also why did the specific shark that killed her boyfriend and crew travel from the middle of the Pacific, past all of SE Asia, India, and Africa to reach France? What a fucking reach holy shit. You expect me to believe that a week after this movie they didn't make the turbo shark annihilation machine 9000 to solve the problem? These ate fucking toads or mongooses or beetles they're big as sharks and we're fucking amazing at wiping out large species.Sharks are like negative scary. Some cool shots but needed more gore and a less retarded plot 2/10
>>204517353What if there's a werewolf break?
>>204517477>A movie that is an hour and a half long on average takes me about 3 hours to watch at this point because I have to constantly pause and check /hor/. This but because I like repeating certain scenes. I think I have a problem because I didn’t used to do this and one movie took me all night once but it was sooooo fucking good it was warranted.

How do we move the horror genre away from goreslop?
>>204517926A mainstream smash hit that's not goreslop. Then you'll get nothing but non-goreslops
>>204517926Goresloppa will always exist in a niche capacity. Terrifier gets memed like it’s a mega hit but Longlegs was an actual normie hit. Non sloppa horror will always make the money and keep the sloppa at bay.
>>204517926That 2000s killed horror by making gore slop popularThe 2010s were the final nail in the coffin by making Mcdonalds arthouse trauma metaphor slop popularBoth killed the genre
The Houses October Built was good. I'd recommend it to any found footage fan.
>>204518023>Terrifier gets memed like it’s a mega hit but Longlegs was an actual normie hit. What are you basing this on? In the normie spaces I frequent, I see near universal agreement that Longlegs was a letdown, meanwhile I saw a decent amount of hype for Terrifier 3.>Non sloppa horror will always make the money and keep the sloppa at bay.Maybe I'm retarded but I can't think of a non-goreslop horror that has done well in the last couple years. Maybe Alien Romulus but that's part of a massive franchise so I'm not counting that. I'm talking about new IPs.
>>204517714This sounds soulful, as if you are enjoying a movie so much you wanna relive scenes right then and there. You are enjoying movies to their greatest extent. What movie took you all night?
>first Popeye appearance>January 17, 1929Holy shit bros we're so close to new unwatchably terrible piblic domain edgeslop
>>204518292I’d love to tell you but it’s embarrassing even for me to admit. It’s not /hor/ but someone did mention it here a few weeks back. Also it took place in real-time so it was like the whole film took place over a six hour span instead of two.
