Watched Longlegs (2024)
Not at all what I was expecting from the title. Interesting concept & worked out pretty well, but I didn't entirely like the way the movie was made. At times the pacing felt very odd. Stellar job by Nicholas Cage. I wonder how many of the "hidden" demonic apparitions I missed, since some of the ones I did see seemed pretty easy to miss.

The main thing that left me confused is the fact he said everyone was given a choice. Clearly it was about whether they wanted to help him or die, but I assumed it had to do with whether you accepted the doll or not, however Carter's family didn't seem to have been given a choice. Was the choice only given to the families before Lee's mom accepted it, and since he now had an accomplice

>horrible characters
I wouldn't say I saw any character that was horrible, most were unnotable but that doesn't make it bad. Most movies are filled with primarily unnoteworthy characters.
>It’s full of plotholes
What are you referring to?
>terrible story
I'd argue the core of the story is better than the majority of horror movies I've watched.

>>204520497
Perhaps, I haven't watched too many, maybe a little under a hundred in total or so, but I feel like a lot of the movies people hold in the highest regards are older movies that don't really do much for me.
I wouldn't say Longlegs is all that memorable and it's not one of my favorites by a longshot, but I thought it was reasonably enjoyable, hence the score of a 7.
You'd likely be equally appalled to hear about the movies I did really enjoy though
>>
>>204520369
>If you watched it in the kinoplex and walked out at the end thinking you saw a great movie I think you have horrible, horrible taste and brain dead standards
I wouldn't go that far, but I do agree. My friends and I were all like "huh?" when it ended. It seemed like it wasn't finished. It was quite forgettable and all over the place. The first few scenes made me excited but it was super anti-climactic

>>
>>204520641
>My friends and I were all like "huh?" when it ended. It seemed like it wasn't finished
I'm pretty lenient on this because I feel like it's a trend in horror movies and it happens pretty often. In general I fucking hate it, but since it happens seemingly far more in horror than other genres I decided to stop getting upset about it. I've seen far more abrupt endings anyway. Think a lot of them just struggle to make a good ending so leaving an abrupt or open ending makes people talk about it more
>>
>>204519941
Repulsion and Personal Shopper come to mind

>>204519813
Yes, and it's one of the best movies to come out of Japan period.

Broadcast Signal Intrusion. it's decent and has a mystery-noir feel. they definitely fucked up the ending and thepacing was off towards the third act. reminded me of Under the Silver Lake and 8MM.

Seems like SFX are having more of an 'oomph' to them lately in horror. Talk To Me's chair and door scenes are noticeable in the sound department, especially on the latter where I thought somebody is knocking in real life with my headphones on.
'Powerful' sounds are not reduced to sound-only deaths now.

Also silent horror films exist.

I'm not trying to bait you with anything, I'm simply curious on your stance, because if you do draw a line somewhere, then we can have a conversation about that.
I don't think t*rrifier will influence people to do anything, that was largely proven untrue during the satanic panic and the jack thompson war on gta. What I do think though is that it is obscene and disgusting enough that it should be banned and it's creator executed for the good of society.
I thought the same about human centipede fyi, t*rrifier isn't unique.

>>204526641
I mean you sound like quite a gatekeeper elitist, when Human Centipede didn't make anything as good as the box office of The Substance, and the Terrifier 3 movie will not either draw whatever amount of outrage you seem to be getting from out of them, compared to The Human Centipede, who nobody cares about anymore lol.
>>
>>204526734
Boomers are nastily active here nowadays.
>>
>>204526863
Why are you not answering the question? Do you think there should be rules about what can be shown on film or not?

A movie's success shouldn't influence anything. It's either obscene and bad for society or it is not.
I don't care about The Substance, that isn't anywhere near as bad as t*rrifier, which has probably the most needless, wanton and realistically depicted gore and violence I've ever seen in a movie.
Human Centipede was banned in a few countries, I'm just saying t*rrifier should be too, but it isn't and it's being allowed to grow and fester, which shows why it should be banned and it's creator killed, unironically.

>Personal information for Gallagher, his family, and anyone that had worked on Smiley was posted online with the recommendation that people use it to harass them.
>In an interview with Fearnet, Gallagher stated that the site had posted the information as part of "Operation Fuck Smiley" and that "Their goal was to spoil the end of the movie, post pornography and gore on any website that talks about it, rate the movie really low... it was this horrible vendetta, like they wanted to destroy it because we talked about 4chan in the movie."
>The validity of these claims were questioned by Cole Strycker, author of Epic Win for Anonymous, who expressed suspicion that Gallagher was trying to use the death threats as a publicity stunt to promote the film. In response, Gallagher asserted that the death threats were real and were not being used as a publicity stunt.

I'm starting to think I'm going to hate every Dario Argento movie. Just finished watching Opera and it was the most half assed idea I've seen. They gave away the killer from the very beginning in their whodunit plot. They really hyped up the upcoming crow scenes ended up flopping anyways.
Seems like Dario can't pace his movies to save his fucking life (what was the point of that fake ending only to have it essentially end the same way minutes later?). And don't even get me started on the insanely shitty rock music they kept playing in this movie called "Opera". Or his obvious self insert as the opera director.
I'm actually seething.
