Watched Oddity yesterday because some of you said it was good. Honestly, it was pretty mid. The story involving the husband and the other other guy wasn't very original at all and it seems like the only reason why the new girlfriend even exists in the movie is just so all the spooky shit can happen and they use her to get those moments across to the audience. As soon as she leaves the movie, the film is no longer "scary" because it just becomes a revenge movie where all the haunting shit is happening to the villain which isn't scary because it's a character you want to see get fucked with. Also that last shot with the bellhop felt comedic and is a completely different tone from the rest of the movie. Honestly one of the most bland flicks I've seen in awhile and I don't know why you guys said it was good. It wasn't terrible. I give it 2 1/2 stars out of 5 but it's honestly not worth recommending to anyone.

On a side note, you're asking a lot of the viewer to suspend their disbelief when it comes to psychic stuff because we all know it's complete bullshit and people who claim to be that are frauds and scumbags which inherently makes the blind sister unlikable even though she's suppose to be the good character.

>>
I pretty much agree with this frogposter>>204686985.

It has so much potential, so much going for it, but it underdelivers. The premise is that it is supposedly (I highly, highly doubt that it is) a one shot, one take movie following a group of young people as they are the catalysts of a 28 Days Later type outbreak. The cinematography was great: most of the movie is very beautiful and fun to watch. And some of the execution was interesting: the infection process is slow and kind of back and forth, not just a switch that turns. But they didn't really do much with that angle, it was kind of just there to help fill up time between characters. Also, they added a few other details like "light makes it worse" but completely dropped the ball on having the whole thing be at night and not ending at dawn and somehow depicting the infected going absolutely berserk under the full light of the sun.

Everything they have going for it (one shot/one take, the novelty of a full movie of 1st person following the beginning of an outbreak from the infected's point of view) kind of fails because they didn't deliver. I just honestly don't believe this was a one take movie. And most of the movie is just watching someone kind of act weird some of the time and then kind of go back to normal. It's not very compelling. It might have worked better with different characters and a different setup. Maybe if I cared about the characters then watching their metamorphosis would have been more interesting? I don't know.

Regardless, I would still recommend this to an avid horror fan because there is still a lot to get out of it. If you're looking for a definite success to watch, this isn't it.

besides we already saw one during the day, at the very beginning, and she didnt seem much more violent than anyone else we saw
i thought the city being put in an intentional blackout was a good and effective way to leave the character and end the movie

>Wounds - Nathan Ballingrud
>Riding the Bullet - Stephen KIng

This is one of my favourite short stories and you can read it on the authors website. Its about a vietnam vet who literally brings the war home. Theres a 80s twilight zone segment directed by william friedkin based on it but read the story first and then warch the episode:

Yeah I was just checking it out on Goodreads and was going to say you are VASTLY overestimating my intellect if you think near 400 pages qualifies as a "novella" to me. The synopsis reads like the author is cramming it full of superficial tropes and weird details. Is that there to disguise a lack of true substance or are all of those bells and whistles truly icing on the cake?

No, there's a definite point to the novel, based around the philosophical problem of the "Chinese room" and how that relates to biological life. It's hard sci-fi with horror elements about a group investigating an alien message received by earth in the future. Also includes vampires. It ticks every box you asked for other than being short.

I just don’t get the thing. Like it can clearly perfectly imitate someone meaning it has all the person thoughts and feelings. Wouldn’t that mean the thing would sympathize? It would also mean it’s super intelligent. Why did it never just try to communicate with the humans. Also such an advanced alien and it so gross and unsightly just doesn’t make sense

I dont think theres a satisfying adaption of the novel that ives seen as of yet. The Karloff film is still the best because it does its own thing. I also like Curse but again its a bastardised hammer adaption. I guess its similar to Dracula in that every adaptions has a piece of the novel but there isnt one that has them all. Theres a BBC adaption from the 70s that i havent watched yet though. Coppola's version is good but i cant get past the acting despite my appreciations for the visuals (its also not very scary).

Gore in horror is good.
>Gore in service of nothing is boring.
It's in service of having good kills in a slasher movie.

I'm trying to remember a movie from around the 90s. It could have possibly been late 80s or early 00s. The cast was a group of college students or young adults saying in a mansion. The house itself wasn't some old creeky victorian manor but was instead some really modern sleek home. There were no monsters in the movie. Instead one or more of the characters was driven to madness or was already a psychopath. The movie was also good quality and not some low budget looking footage that was shot some shitty camera.

The scene I remember the most was a part where the killer at one point took a drill to a victims head. It might not have technically been a horror movie but instead more of a thriller. Can anyone help me remember the name of the movie?

>wtf is this mad genius
Argento's got moments where you'll have a shot that everyone recognises where it's from, Bava always looks beautiful. But Fulci is fucking weirdly good at getting the visuals in a way that everything of his you show a shot from to people they're going to ask questions. You look at a Fulci eyeball scene and people want to know what's going on, while an Argento or Bava eyeball is something people can take as explicable through plot
I think this is probably the most positive I've been about Fulci because Argento is a great experience like Bava where all the elements balance out, but Fulci knows what shit to point the camera at to make people rubberneck and that is a kind of visual genius

Interesting tetralogy. I think the second one is most interesting. The third most atmospheric and you could skip Seagulls if you've got the gist of the series.

A few weeks ago some anon recommended me several Olaf Ittenbach films. I finished the bulk of my Oct watch list and finally checked a couple of them out last night. The Burning Moon was great, and I'm glad I watched it first because I watched Premutos right after and I liked it even more. All the Dead Alive comparisons were spot on. I'm definitely going to buy the Blu-ray next payday. Anyway thanks to kind anon for some great recs in this fucking wasteland of a general.
