So proud of Lauren for showing that middle aged women arent invisible, and that they CAN still get roles! Between her and Demi, this is a great year for strong older women in horror!
>>204688569It's the inevitable fate of all generals. They attract attention whores who post their gimmicks nonstop and have to make everything about them. They then drive away anyone else. Next year will be even worse.
Watched Oddity yesterday because some of you said it was good. Honestly, it was pretty mid. The story involving the husband and the other other guy wasn't very original at all and it seems like the only reason why the new girlfriend even exists in the movie is just so all the spooky shit can happen and they use her to get those moments across to the audience. As soon as she leaves the movie, the film is no longer "scary" because it just becomes a revenge movie where all the haunting shit is happening to the villain which isn't scary because it's a character you want to see get fucked with. Also that last shot with the bellhop felt comedic and is a completely different tone from the rest of the movie. Honestly one of the most bland flicks I've seen in awhile and I don't know why you guys said it was good. It wasn't terrible. I give it 2 1/2 stars out of 5 but it's honestly not worth recommending to anyone. On a side note, you're asking a lot of the viewer to suspend their disbelief when it comes to psychic stuff because we all know it's complete bullshit and people who claim to be that are frauds and scumbags which inherently makes the blind sister unlikable even though she's suppose to be the good character.

>>204688709Have you seen his other movie Caveat?
>>204688776I read the short story and saw the Twilight Zone episode. Watching any of those movies wouldn't add anything.
I pretty much agree with this frogposter>>204686985.It has so much potential, so much going for it, but it underdelivers. The premise is that it is supposedly (I highly, highly doubt that it is) a one shot, one take movie following a group of young people as they are the catalysts of a 28 Days Later type outbreak. The cinematography was great: most of the movie is very beautiful and fun to watch. And some of the execution was interesting: the infection process is slow and kind of back and forth, not just a switch that turns. But they didn't really do much with that angle, it was kind of just there to help fill up time between characters. Also, they added a few other details like "light makes it worse" but completely dropped the ball on having the whole thing be at night and not ending at dawn and somehow depicting the infected going absolutely berserk under the full light of the sun.Everything they have going for it (one shot/one take, the novelty of a full movie of 1st person following the beginning of an outbreak from the infected's point of view) kind of fails because they didn't deliver. I just honestly don't believe this was a one take movie. And most of the movie is just watching someone kind of act weird some of the time and then kind of go back to normal. It's not very compelling. It might have worked better with different characters and a different setup. Maybe if I cared about the characters then watching their metamorphosis would have been more interesting? I don't know.Regardless, I would still recommend this to an avid horror fan because there is still a lot to get out of it. If you're looking for a definite success to watch, this isn't it.
>>204688731i know its classed as scifi/comedy, but i would still allow this as a horror movie. just the alien designs are creepy in itself.
>>204688823not horror

>>204690049>>204690119Yeah I was just checking it out on Goodreads and was going to say you are VASTLY overestimating my intellect if you think near 400 pages qualifies as a "novella" to me. Is that there to disguise a lack of true substance or are all of those bells and whistles truly icing on the cake?

>>204690250Is there a place to watch it free?
>>204690185No, there's a definite point to the novel, based around the philosophical problem of the "Chinese room" and how that relates to biological life. It's hard sci-fi with horror elements about a group investigating an alien message received by earth in the future. Also includes vampires. It ticks every box you asked for other than being short.

I just don’t get the thing. Like it can clearly perfectly imitate someone meaning it has all the person thoughts and feelings. Wouldn’t that mean the thing would sympathize? It would also mean it’s super intelligent. Why did it never just try to communicate with the humans. Also such an advanced alien and it so gross and unsightly just doesn’t make sense

Laura Ramsey is quite striking in The Ruins
Tried watching Stream but it was terrible, just boring goreshit, so I turned it off
>>204690541
>>204690624>goreshitIt's literally by the Terrifier crew, what did you think it would be? It's a gory low budget slasher.
>>204690415I dont think theres a satisfying adaption of the novel that ives seen as of yet. The Karloff film is still the best because it does its own thing. I also like Curse but again its a bastardised hammer adaption. I guess its similar to Dracula in that every adaptions has a piece of the novel but there isnt one that has them all. Theres a BBC adaption from the 70s that i havent watched yet though. Coppola's version is good but i cant get past the acting despite my appreciations for the visuals (its also not very scary).

>>204690784I wanted to like it I really did but the bad script and performances took me out of it. A movie like Haunt, or even The Den, did this way better, especially with ratcheting up the tension.

I'm trying to remember a movie from around the 90s. It could have possibly been late 80s or early 00s. The cast was a group of college students or young adults saying in a mansion. The house itself wasn't some old creeky victorian manor but was instead some really modern sleek home. There were no monsters in the movie. Instead one or more of the characters was driven to madness or was already a psychopath. The movie was also good quality and not some low budget looking footage that was shot some shitty camera. The scene I remember the most was a part where the killer at one point took a drill to a victims head. It might not have technically been a horror movie but instead more of a thriller. Can anyone help me remember the name of the movie?
The Ruins has a great setup and setting but the characters are annoying idiots.

>>204691637it's really pretty, even if you just drive past them. anything in the central eurozone is fine, its not that big of a continent anyway compared to Northamerica or Africa, so its only a couple of hours drive.

Can someone rec some haunted house movies with poltergeists?
>>204691265>>the invisible man>>the bride of frankensteinLove these, will check out the others.
>>204688468This was great. I figured it wouldn't survive the hype and 2hrs 20 would have some fat but it was great. Loved Demi Moore, stating my bias, I love seasoned female actors going full tilt in a horror, and Demi Moore delivering >Here's your fucking beauty secretwith the same energy and less fucks than>Suck my dickgives me life in a way that wanting to talk about Madeline Ashton keeps me going.Everything with Quaid reminded me of a Pulp music video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUMqXWaF4Ac and I think Starry Eyes went so broad with the same idea that this role seems a bit middle of the road, especially with the rest of the movie going balls to the wall. It's not even a flaw in itself, it's just the only bit that isn't going full out>>204689118>when you realise the neighbour probably has the same amount of extra space
>>204691802Any chance they're Scottish?
>inherited this massive, dilapidated house from an old relative I never metI thought this only happened in haunted mansion movies
>>204692080You're going to get raped by the tranny witch ghost that's been living there since the middle ages, anon
>>204692012Dennis Quaid gave a really convincing performance as a gross bastard fucking kek!
There are people who pronounce Halloween normally with the 'a' pronounced like in 'cat', and then there are "people" (subhumans) who pronounce the 'a' like in 'fall'
>>204692080Lucky.
>>204684796>>204684858Speaking from experience, this is 100% true.
>>204692123Guess i'm subhuman then.
>>204692119It is good, it's just not good as the Hollywood booker from the 70s type Starry Eyes has. They could have gone harder there
>>204692080ghost hunt in it!
>this handsome motherfucker rocks up, slashes your gf on the ass, and gives you this lookHow do you respond?
Name a horror director who makes more visually amazing films than Argento doesYou can't
>>204692211Ken Russell
>>204692163Do you pronounce "hallow" the same way? If you do you're retarded.
>>204692123The latter is correct, because it comes from the word "hallow".
>>204691839Suspiriachads rise up!
>>204692244The word 'hallow' is pronounced with a short 'a' like in 'cat'. Dictionaries don't even list an alternate pronunciation because there isn't one.
>>204690415>Wish
>>204692232I'm ESL so yes, i am retarded.
>>204692123I pronounce it as "Hollow sneed"
>>204692211I want to live there.>>204692228That's funny, anon.
>>204692302The "a" in "cat" is too harsh. It's a softer A sound.
>>204692211>From the twisted mind of Jordan Peele....
are there any horror directors that are actually frightened by the genre and not just get off on it or find it amusing or love spooking people ?
>>204692341Roeg too
>>204691802I don't remember. It's certainly possible.

>>204692356The IPA vowel is accurate, you're probably getting the vowel sound mixed with the surrounding consonant sounds. "Tallow" uses the same vowel sound if you want a different example.

Has there ever been a movie more ruined by its last five minutes? This was genuinely great lovecraftian horror on a small budget until that stupid fucking ending
I live in the 21st century and, as such, I don't walk down a "Hal", I walk down a hall.
Brits pronounce it as Hah and therefore that is the correct way.
>>204692449It was dogshit from start to finish I'm tired of this meme
>>204692427Might be Shallow Grave then
>>204692449I love the sound design in this
>>204692412>>204692445Wasn't this guy raised by a white woman, his mother, that was actually there for him and loved him? So what's his deal with the "wypepo bad" horseshit? If he was gonna hate a half of him shouldn't it be the black half, since his deadbeat black dad took off and didn't care about him? I really don't understand this shit.
>>204692441That guy does look like they pulled him out of a closet where they stored him since the 1970s
>>204692449The Mist. Fucking terrible ending. The novella has him driving for weeks and the mist still catching up with him and implies the amoun of bullets as a last resort. He had a drive round in the fog in the movie and immediately everyone decides for plot reasons to a suicide pact.
>>204692464Nah come on the intro with the town exodus in the 40s is awesome, I’d love to see that filmed

The pronunciation of "Halloween" is in half-way in between "hat" and "hollow."

>>204692530I thought the book ended with them following a radio signal that may lead to safety and ending there.Leaving it open to I perpetration
>>204692550That's according to Argento.
>>204692550Yes, and when i asked for citation he linked me some article by some guy, but i'll believe it when it comes from Argento himself.
>>204692558What a mess. All of this of course is the woman's fault for burning the coal.
Which version of this "for numales" horror is more infuriating?>numale gets his self extermination wish fulfillmentor>numale gets a power fantasy where he becomes temporarily masculine againI thought the remake couldn't be any worse than the original, but when they actually "escaped" successfully 44 minutes into the movie only to then turn around like little bitches for Hoppy, it was basically the same level of being cucked. And seriously? Trying to project the difference between the Dutch and Danish onto Britbongs and Americans? If anything, the two cultures would be mapped the other way.
>>204692530>The novella has him driving for weeksThis is just dead wrong. Did you last read this 20 years ago, or something? The novella ends less than a week after the mist rolled in.
>>204692604https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenomena_(film)
>>204692526If you had to eat non-fried chicken, and go without fat bitches and rap music, only for a single day, you'd go crazy tooDem white ppl be creepy, dawg>>204692550Argento actually claims it does in his book "Fear", which I've read
Everyone in The Den has brown eyes. In The Ruins, everyone had light eyes. I feel like there's something to be autistically mapped out as far as eye colors go in movies over time. I'm not the autist for the job, but someone out there with more time and motivation should get on this.

>>204693093Disturbing Behavior
>>204692211Bava but Argento's movies look beautiful too
>>204692635Speak no Evil is a goated banger. You wouldn't do shit chuddie
>>204693149Tbf if we're talking pure visuals, Fulci
>>204692596>>204692693Based Argento, thanks for clarifying.
Best gore scene in an Argento film?Hard mode: You can't say the barbed wire scene in Suspiria
>>204693093Antlers
>>204693175Fulci was great and part of the trio of greats but in visual terms Bava is on a league of his own
>>204693186>You can't say the barbed wire scene in SuspiriaThen I retire.
skibidi no evil
>>204693093>rainy, misty, pacific northwestJust Before Dawn has that feeling
>>204693267I have a feeling that if they make a remake of NoES in the current era, they will include a scene where Freddy's head comes out of toilet and says something like "Skibidi this, bitch!"
Watching Return of the Blind Dead (1973). Might as well call it "Attack of the titty stabbers". Evil undead warlock templars, kensington gore blood, Torgo style character... the usual fare.
>>204693254Bava's great and I don't even like Fulci but most of Fulci you can pause and have people go>wtf is this mad geniusArgento's got moments where you'll have a shot that everyone recognises where it's from, Bava always looks beautiful. But Fulci is fucking weirdly good at getting the visuals in a way that everything of his you show a shot from to people they're going to ask questions. You look at a Fulci eyeball scene and people want to know what's going on, while an Argento or Bava eyeball is something people can take as explicable through plotI think this is probably the most positive I've been about Fulci because Argento is a great experience like Bava where all the elements balance out, but Fulci knows what shit to point the camera at to make people rubberneck and that is a kind of visual genius
>>204693356Interesting tetralogy. I think the second one is most interesting. The third most atmospheric and you could skip Seagulls if you've got the gist of the series.
>>204693356Sounds good, I'm in
/hor/? more like /whore/ hehe
A few weeks ago some anon recommended me several Olaf Ittenbach films. I finished the bulk of my Oct watch list and finally checked a couple of them out last night. The Burning Moon was great, and I'm glad I watched it first because I watched Premutos right after and I liked it even more. All the Dead Alive comparisons were spot on. I'm definitely going to buy the Blu-ray next payday. Anyway thanks to kind anon for some great recs in this fucking wasteland of a general.
