8th grader opinions is a great way to put it. These scripts are as underdeveloped as the main chick from Alien Romulus. Schlock of yore for all its problems could at least on occasion generate interesting characters with somewhat believable dialogue. We have coasted deeply into the era of low skilled nepotism writers, fully detached from the peasants and who communicate mainly through smartphones, writing the majority of Hollywood slop.

Terrifier 3 was lame. Was the budget reduced for this or did all of the budget get wasted on over the top fucking pointless gore vfx? Also the music was shit compared to 2. Annoying characters, boring filler talking scenes, shitty sequel bait ending, non-comfy Christmas filter. No tits despite being promised tits (i may have been lied to and expected Sienna tits but then remembered the actress was a prude who forgot what kind of franchise she's in).

The music in 2 is pretty lame too, especially that more bubbly synth theme that plays when Sienna is working on the costume, it tries so hard to sound 80s that it sounds like a generic AI generated "1980s synth music for horror movie". Modern /hor/ in general has ver bad uninspired music.

Just finished Kolobos. On one hand it had a really interesting premise, but I feel like it was poorly executed. Actors were all pretty mediocre. I think that was the biggest drawback. Soundtrack was lackluster as well. Some of the deaths were pretty gruesome. But this could have been much better. Definitely not a movie for paranoid schizophrenics to watch under any circumstance. One of my "probably will never rewatch" category horror films.

Linea Quigley's "pooping scene" from pic rel was so fucking crazy that people say its why there are so many different editions of the film, because different distributors and editors were horrified and offended to such a wildly varying degree that there could be no real consensus on which parts of that segment are useable and 'acceptable' and which portions 'cross the line'
but since its Linea Quigley 'doing what she does best' no one was able to completely excise the whole sequence of scenes...

You got me, i'm an older zoomer though. Aside from the back and white, which I've come to appreciate from its sporadic yet artistic use in modern films and photography, I for some reason always had the impression that the universal monster movies were B-movie horror shlock akin to the low buget (but fun) garbage horror movies from the 80's. Once I began watching them you realize the great sets, the consise storytelling, and the great dialouge. Just the right amount of camp too.

Dracula
Frankenstien
Bride
Invisible Man

I plan on seeing the Wolf Man, Mummy and Black Lagoon next. So far I'd say Dracula was the most underwhelming of the bunch. While i understand that Bela Lugosi is iconic, I found the overall pace of the story a bit boring. Loved Frankenstien, and actually prefer it over Bride. Loved Invisible Man too, such a demented and ghoulish main character, funny too. I also watched the 1931 Dr Jykell and Mr Hyde, which I understand is actually a paramount film, but it's pretty much in the same vain as the universal movies, and it's honestly my favorite of the bunch. The sexuality in it kinda suprised me, and the story kept me fully engrossed right till the end.

I thought it was great, possibly my favorite film of 2024, that said, I have a lot of catching up to do with movies from this year. I haven't even finished shit like Dune Part II for example. To me, The Substance is basically a Tales of the Crypt movie in 2024, paired with striking visuals too. It pretty much follows all the similar story beats a Crypt episode would entail. I think it's much easier to apperciate the film through that paticular lens. I also thought Dennis Quaid was great in this.

That new Texas Chainsaw Massacre from a few years ago was basically anti-woke. It's about a bunch of leftist Californiafaggots running a real estate scam and inadvertently killing the adoptive mother of Leatherface. You can imagine what happens.

When Evil Lurks isn't woke unless you just think that having a movie about Mexicans is woke. It might also be considered anti-woke since the whole downfall of society stems from abandoning religion.

i just had a really fun time with it, two and a half hours just flew by and i was really pleasantly surprised by it. Quaid was great, i liked how blunt they made him. I wish Elisabeth spoke more to that old man who was the doctor who slipped her the substance in the first place, he actually offered really nice advice about how elizabeths life was worth living too but she was somehow freaked out by him when he clearly has experience in this situation. I cant name a better horror for this year and i see it holding up for the 2020s in general.

I thought it was a bit weird though how elizabeth was sorta like an 80s fitness instructor in the modern day, surely something like that is extremely dated and that was the joke but sue just did the same thing in the same TV format, so the whole thing about TV still being relevant was a bit dated

late night with the devil was so unfortunately predictable, used AI generated assets, crappy CGI effects and had segments that flat out felt like a Channel Awesome bit from 2011 (why would they use spirals as a motif?). The structure switching between found footage and narrative behind the scenes wasnt a problem for me but in general it just didnt feel like i was watching a lost 1970s Dick Cavett special

I also thought Nic Cage was the worst part about Long Legs, generally speaking i think he's extremely overrated and nothing of his really sticks out to me as being great, just that theyre 'nice cage films'. Willys Wonderland was a busted up boring piece of shit but i dont think thats regarded as a good film either

I prefer the 2007 Halloween over almost all modern iterations, but I also think the second Rob Zombie Halloween is pretty dogshit. The good things about the first one is that it flows like an actual movie, and it tries being a fresh take on the story by going ultra realistic. The kills in the movie not only make sense and don't feel forced for the sake of a kill, there's a substantial body count and the kills themselves are way more brutal and ugly than in the shitty nu-Halloween movies. It's a successful remake of the original for modern audiances imo.

>TCM 2022 was garbage
Nah, it was great.
>Entire plot centers around a black guy and Jewess with a real estate scheme to sell repo'd rural property to yuppy millennials fleeing the hellscape cities that they created
>Black guy tries to steal a house that doesn't belong to him, forcefully/illegally ejecting an old woman from the home she lived in for fifty years
>When she dies on the way to the hospital, in the arms of her surrogate son, he shows no remorse
>This sets off the massacre
>Based, coal-rolling, gun-toting redneck stands up to the black guy when he finds out what he did
>Still tries to save the black guy and friends even after they berate him from the outset of the movie; while he lay dying, he makes an effort to facilitate escape for Jewess
>Guns save the day
>Pseudo-heroine from the original movie is shown to be useless and disposed of almost immediately after Leatherface makes it clear that he doesn't know or care who she is
>At the very end of the movie, the main character and her sister (the Jewess) get into a Tesla and have it auto-pilot away, only to have Leatherface return and pull the Jewess out of the car to get beheaded in front of her sister
>She would have survived if they hadn't been too lazy to drive themselves away from the town
>Entire movie is a rejection of liberal millennial bullshit, and specifically their flight from cities into rural areas where they want to spread their plague
Most based movie of the past ten years. Seeing the seethe from libcuck film critics was great, but they couldn't outright cancel the guy who made it because he is Mexican.

Any other fans here of the 1991 made for television film, 'Backfield in Motion', starring Rosanne Barr playing a widowed mother that challenges the BBT guy to a mother/son football game? Kills' intro with the flashback to 1978 was so fucking good. They actually took great pains to emulate the look and feel of the original footage. I mean you couldn't tell that it wasn't part of the original film.

The only other production that does this kind of painstakingly attention to detail was Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D's intro. You could actually believe the opening was a direct sequel to the original and that the town formed a mob to kill the Sawyers.

I also liked how they brought back Kyle Richards who played Lindsey in the original movie. I thought it was bullshit that Myers was able to kill all those townspeople like that. No fucking way could he tank that many hits and kill everyone.

Yup. I saw in theaters because my buddies wanted to go see it. Ugh, it was a waste of time.

What I respected about it was the flashback that retcons how Michael survived being decapitated, that was actually pretty clever. And I liked how they were addressing reality TV and live-streaming (in 2002 technology).

But Busta Rhymes fighting Michael Myers was awful. In terms of shittiness, it's the worst Halloween. Even the Blumhouse Halloween films (I think the first and Kills are the best, I have mixed feelings about Ends) are way better. Even Rob Zombie's Halloweens are definitely worth rewatching (goddamn Danielle Harris never gets a break...)
