I don't know, it's a found footage film. I don't know, man. I try to keep these things as positive as I can. This had a cool premise. I'm sure a lot of people who worked on it really poured their heart and soul into it. These types of things, though, you're really walking a wire with how you present your cgi. The cgi is clearly budget. And there's ways you can do that and make it work and they did that some of the time in this movie. If your movie is about finding doors to any kind of alternate dimensions possible, then, yeah, there's a world with a huge giant pixel man walking around and you can get away with kind of cheap graphics and keep it in theme. But then when there are multiple tentacle creatures that are supposed to be authentic biological life and the cgi for them looks like it came out of a 2008 SyFy Channel movie then it ruins the vibe. But, nonetheless, it is a movie that is within the genre of found footage so there you have it.

Why do you talk to yourself? You think no one else notices?
>True /hor/ is aging takes its toll on women in ways so subtle
That's one of horror's oldest tropes-- it is in fact a mythological trope/archetype that found its way in literature and movies.
>>
>>204706016
The OG Speak no Evil, which I watched is a good movie but too depressing for a party. The remake is supposed to be more audience friendly. Still too bleak perhaps. I think Late Night is the better choice too.

>>
>>204706147
Yes, I also assume it's Late Night w/t Devil all the way because it has a pop appeal, it flows as a TV show and even has a few comedic moments.
The ending and other hidden clues (the masked guys in the audience for instance) will have people coming up with different explanations so it gets the conversation going instead of anything with a bleak atmosphere/ending

Trick 'R Treat is the ultimate Halloween movie. Halloween 3 is okay but the pacing might be a bit too slow for a party unless you are just having it on in the background and not expecting people to watch it all the way through.
Scream, most of the Elm Street movies, Hellfest, Fright Night (original or remake), and 13 Ghosts (remake) would all be solid choices. Maybe House On Haunted Hill (original) if you want something more vintage but still fun.
The trick for party movies is you want something that is constantly exciting/fun without requiring too much knowledge beyond the premise.

>well let's see here... our season runs from May 15 until October 30, and then we close down completely until the following May.
>later, during Closing day: "the guests and most of the staff left yesterday..."

Reminder that the Closing Day in The Shining occurs on Halloween. Kubrick wanted to load in as many simple, cartoonish spooky things as possible. Furthermore, it is possible to pinpoint the timing of the film's events, with the reasonable inference that the two-day jumps occur from one day of the week to the next, 48 hour intervals. Things deteriorate rapidly.

Jack drives up in late summer/early fall, August/September or thereabouts, and then Closing Day is Halloween, 1980. "A MONTH LATER" could be construed as either November 30 or December 1, give or take a day. From there, the rest unfolds during the first half of December, 1980.

Also, when you pay attention to the time jumps, they shorten over the course of the film. It's reasonable to think that a month or more passed before the Torrances drive up, then a month jump. Now things speed up from section to section: every "day" jump is understood on the human level as about two days, 48 hours. The deterioration of the family lasts about a week or more. Then on the final day, the time jumps shorten even more. The very long "WEDNESDAY" segment gives way to "8am" and "4pm". eight-hour jumps. This implies that at the night, at the end (with some available clock information), Jack froze to death and it is reasonable to suppose that he died of exposure at the stroke of Midnight, another eight hours later. This lines up perfectly with "Midnight, the Stars, and You", which I read as the hotel mocking that it has deluded and claimed Jack's soul at precisely the stroke of midnight.

>Day 20: Daddy's Head
I wasn't going to watch this, (it looked too much like a tiresome grief metaphor) but people on here were talking it up. It's a grief metaphor, starring the world's dumbest fucking kid. "I think this horrifying monster is my REAL dad, fuck you mom!". You faggots are always calling me reddit. I'll admit, I'm a little bit reddit. But grief metaphors are Double reddit. I'll say a few nice things - it had a good atmosphere, some cool shots, and it's well presented for what it is. The monster is creepy and its a cool idea. Unfortunately, it's still way too slow paced, nothing really happens, and the metaphorical/psychological element is way oversold. I just don't like this "elevated horror" stuff. Sometimes I like the slow paced crap (I was one of the few who enjoyed You Were Never Really Here) but this one didn't quite hit. I'll rate it "decent" if you like that sort of movie, "poor" if you don't. I'm also feeling negative due to a lack of Halloween spirit, so take my complaints with a grain of salt.

Vampire Ecstasy aka The Devil's Plaything

Just finished, it was a fun movie. It was definitely trying to be a serious movie. I liked the setting and some of the story.

3 highlights

>nudity, nudity and even more nudity
>penis candles
>sister using a crucifix more than once to ward off vampire brother trying to rape her

Definitely a rec for any coomers.

Even though it tries to be a satire of those greasy, pretentious zoomers/millennials, I still detested all characters. The movie's technically awful, with atrocious camera movements and lighting. The ending is, however, good

Ending was good but I also called it a mile away. They didn’t even try to make it a proper whodunnit. If they put in a little more effort the ending would have been much more hilarious/shocking

In the 70s, Hammer was clearly trying to compete with all the slashers and gore/porn horror movies popping up. It's actually a shame they didn't embrace it more fully, because the 70s ones are more adored than many of the others.

Nothing like sex appeal, nudity and graphic violence to get people to watch your movies.

This hit so close to home for me because I lived with a Jacob for a couple of years when I was a teenager. He was originally a good friend of mine and when I found out that he lived in an abusive household I took him in and he lived with me and my family. I can easily say that he's the only person in this world who I genuinely hate. Good movie though.

You seem pretty knowledgeable I was looking for this one weird horror film where people all start turning into blobs, saw it with a couple friends and I was half-watching it while getting drunk. Looking for basically the same thing almost a MST3K kinda feel. So mostly older horror, lots of comedy horror, or just really good horror. Currently watching Dead Alive(Braindead) and it's going over rather well.

theres a dark horror movie to be made from the concept of a message board that gets taken over by autistic losers who become the, lets call it, stewards of the board, and they treat it like their own fiefdom and allow other losers to get away with anything because there is now an ego-stroking hugbox environment. the horror comes into play as we the audience watch the terrifying loneliness and slow degredation into schizophrenia that comes with such a lifestyle. soon the pro/antagonist is lashing out at his pets and slewing tirades at the shadows.

Oddity was sort of disappointing. It wasn't terrible, and I can't say it was even bad. I'd just heard good things about it and it didn't live up to the hype. It didn't feel like a horror movie. More like a revenge story with horror draping. As a revenge story it succeeds and was enjoyable. As a horror movie, it's quite flat. I will say that Carolyn Bracken gave me milf fever, oddly enough. And that the tent scene was a surprisingly effective jumpscare.
I'll give it a 6.5/10 (which is great for a low-budget film), but I won't be watching it again.
I'll be watching Caveat next.

Was anybody else disappointed by this movie? The movie was helped along by a massive exposition dump, the mystery was bad, and the ending was a dud. It was pretty creepy but I expected a much smarter and less jump-scaryish flick.

if it's tension you want I'd watch Kolobos RED
but if you're more of an arthouse fan then the classic purple edition of Kolobos, sometimes called the 'spain-cut'

Lots of low effort writing and over-reliance on “arsty” directing that is really just unnecessary and bad. A lot of new movies supposedly big on having important themes but they’re like 8th grader opinions. “Poor Things” is a great example, its just a softcore porno with some half-assed commentary about women’s rights or classism or some bullshit.
