What is the better 90s remake, NotLD or Psycho?
>>204755122It's been helping me out a lot, and with an adblocker it's nearly perfect
Rewatched fright night (1985) for the first time in years, forgot how good it was. Also the soundtrack made me cum

>>204755166It really is amazing. And Fright Night Part 2 is criminally underrated. I'd even say it's better than the original. Regine Dandridge is a hella sexy vampiress and more dangerous than Jerry was. Not to mention her crew was more interesting. You a werewolf-vampire, a much stronger ghoul-human, and a tranny vampire.
Watch The Beyond (1981).
>>204755304Yes.
>>204755139NOTLD remake is better than the original desu
>>204755240I love both of them. The 2011 remake was interesting over how Jerry acted like a serial killer; I mean look at his set-up, soundproof basement? Even without being a vampire, the dude was scary as fuck. And I liked Peter Vincent being some kind of Las Vegas showman whose parents were victims of Jerry and vampires in general. Oh and how Jerry circumvented the "no invite" rule is something I even called out way back when I used to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayers. Why don't more vampires use this?
>do nothing>win
>>204755166tom holland is also an underrated director/writer i feel. psycho II plays with your expectations enough to make it interesting and a very good sequel, where its not just more of the same, but builds on the previous movie. we also have prime meg tilly in it. i prefer psycho II over the first movie
Bout to rewatch the faculty

>>204755406This movie doesn't get old and I really don't have any complaints. Great cast, soundtrack, even the effects mostly hold up. Cute actresses too!
>>204755454>>204755139Speaking of which
>>204755454
>>204755533I knew this would be the first one posted.
>>204755375Psycho II is truly a great sequel. And I view it and the original movie as 2 parts of a whole. The franchise should've just ended with Part 2. >prime meg tillyI read that she hated working in Psycho II and had problems with Perkins yet you couldn't tell with their acting. Especially that scene where Norman comes to Mary for comfort. It's amazing how Psycho II actually makes you root for Norman despite being a psycho murderer. To be fair, he went nuts because of abuse from his mom and it's no surprise he went off the rails. But I can't blame Mary's mom for wanting Norman back in the institute. At least she wasn't trying to kill him or frame him. >>204755454Natassja obviously. Meg Tilly in Psycho II though I liked her with long hair in One Dark Night. Tina in Nightmare of Elm Street and Rachel in Halloween 4.
>>204755454Asia in Stendhal Syndrome.
Is there any 2020s horror worth watching yet
>>204755572Meh, I vastly preferred Alex from Fright Night Part 2. I'm a huge Traci Lind fan and she was a way better girlfriend than Amy. I also don't like Bearse because she was a real bitch on Married with Children I heard.
>>204754752The Breed (2006) and 30 Days of Night (2007). 30 Days was at least a nice looking movie with a cool atmosphere but the vampires were the same “walk around hissing and screaming at the air for no reason” monsters I’ve seen 100 times.
>>204755357For me it just fell apart when the effects became more prominent. Even not comparing it to the great effects and aesthetic of the original, the CGI and general look of the movie are so ugly to me. Everything covered in that blue filter and the monsters just look ridiculous. I don't know why so many directors back then thought this kind of thing looked good.
>>204755304For me, it's City of the Deadwebm only semi related
>>204755585>abuse from his momi need to make a list for all the "abused by parents core" horror movies.
>>204755332>>204755431It has great kills and one of the bleakest horror endings I’ve seen in ages, even though I predicted it early on.

>>204755606
>>204755454This girl from Scream 3
>>204755629I didn't care for the monster effects. It was the story and how they explored the lore. Like Evil Ed trying to outsmart Jerry about not inviting him or how Peter Vincent's penthouse got infiltrated; the remake really put thought in the vampire rules. Yeah the CGI was bullshit (I did like Sarandon's cameo in that particular screencap you posted), but the way Farrell played Jerry to Peter's backstory and the actual clever way to make Jerry lose his mind and attack him when he was vulnerable was really good. Also liked the standoff where Peter and Charlie were stuck in the basement while Jerry wasn't plussed and said he could afford to wait until sundown.
>>204752848Lesson of the Evil was the only one on 1337x or piratebay. But it sounds good, think I’ll watch it later
>>204755606I mostly enjoyed Halloween Kills having also generally liked 2018. The preview snippet for Ends makes it look like shit, but I will have to go in anyway because I'm a series completionist.

>>204756091Ohhhhh
>>204755981You do realise that people in 1968 didn't have video tapes nor streaming services, right?
>>204755585>Psycho II is truly a great sequel.I made an edit for myself of Psycho 2 in BW so it fits better with the original. Upped the contrast a bit and made it a tiny bit more grainy and so on.It works wonderfully and makes the entire thing far more oppressive and serious. I feel the original color version tends to look a bit too "tv movie".
>>204755139Psycho remake is absolute pointless.NotlD improves the original on every single way.>better acting>better pacing>tony todd>cute, resourceful, brat Barbara>great cinematograhy by Frank Prinzi>great vfx>better eerie, synth carpenter like soundtrackseriously, the ost is extremely underratedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1j82gPYzh4
>>204756091you cant scare people with the devil anymore, now that everyone larps as atheist or agnostic.
>>204755804>no other film ends in such a devastatingly soul crushing way.The Fly also comes to mind but The Beyond’s ending tops it imo.
>>204756091>julia garnercreepy lookin bitch
>>204756350this is the face she makes when she gets out the dick flattening device
>>204756249The only thing the NotLD remake is missing is the cut shotgun head explosion. Then it would be near perfect. It’s criminal that the effect wasn’t allowed in the final cut.
>>204755304I once caught a movie when I was little, looked like one of those tv movies of the late 80s, where this woman is talking to a school principal and tells him something about not expelling a student or how he shouldn't do something he wanted and then the principal says "are you threatening me?" and she says "I'm warning you" and her eyes turn blood red and she turns to walk away and we follow the principal's gaze as it goes down her backside where -in my childish mind at least- we see how she is wearing a cape like dracula.
>>204756098I've noticed that Meg Tilly has grown to quite a few admirers on /tv/. What caused it? A stream of Psycho II?I saw Meg Tilly on Tex because I was a huge S.E. Hinton fan (had all her books) and after watching The Outsiders, I saw Tex and then Rumble Fish. Then I saw One Dark Night, Psycho II, Off Beat, The Big Chill, Valmont, and the 90's Body Snatchers over the years. It wasn't I looked up on IMDB that I recognized the actress and the films she was in. I was a 1994 baby and all these movies were on cable so I only saw them whenever it was on HBO or whatever. >>204756239Link? Eh, I get what you mean about the color but I like seeing the contrast between the original Psycho's clash of moods to the colorful Psycho II examination of whether or not his eyes were playing tricks on him.
>>204755166YOU CAN'T RUN
>>204756399Teen Wolf Too? Because that sounds awfully like this scenehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HavLrFJcqMs
>>204756425Bro, it can't be anything but this scene. Thank you. I luv you. I also wanted to write there was cool music in the end, but decided to omit it. In my memory it was a much darker scene and they talked in private in a school corridor or whatever. I must have been of reading age to remember it was in a school and the exchange.
>>204756425is she a furry?
>>204756249>>cute, resourceful, brat Barbarathis isn't a good change. catatonic barbara elevated the tension in the original
>>204756558NP my fellow /tv/ appreciator. There's also a similar scene in the original Teen Wolf starring Michael J. Fox. The dad (whose also a werewolf) threatening the principal about leaving his son alone. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/PpGYqIONskUI was born in the 90s and hate how movies aren't fun like this anymore.
>>204756633Werewolf. And she's pretty damn hot in an older mature way when I saw this as a kid. >>204756664>>204756249I saw both versions and they're byproducts of their era. The 60's Barbara is the helpless bystander caught up in major shit going down. Her reunion with her brother majorly fucked me up when I saw that. The 90's remake obviously encompasses all the Final Girl tropes that horror movies established in the 70's and 80's (which the original didn't have at the time). So Barbara being a hardened survivor was refershing instead of seeing a dipshit bimbo. I did hate what happened to Tony Todd in the end though. Oh and Barbara giving that cowardly dad was amazing.

Watched The Thing prequel from 2011 for the first time as a big fan of the original. As a prequel that takes place like a day before the original film and shows what happened at the other base, I'd say it's unnecessary since we don't need to know and it's scarier to imagine, but it's completely serviceable. Not bad but nothing really impressive. The Thing itself is an idiot in this one compared to the original though, constantly revealing itself and jumping out at people. But horror had a different audience then I guess. I like how seamlessly it ties into the original, even with it's flaws. Felt like I could just pop in the original and continue from there. Worst part of the movie was the outdated CGI. The practical effects of the original, which is 42 years old, aged better than CGI from a movie from 13 years ago. Best part of the movie was looking at Mary Elizabeth Winstead the whole time because she is a beautiful woman. What did you think of the movie?
>>204756872There was no need for a prequel. The mystery of what happened in the Norwegian station is more terrifying when you let your imagination fill the blanks.
>>204756401For me it was this webm and finding out there was a Tilly sister I had never heard of that was cuter than Jen
>>204756778That's a good thing though? Just look at She Wolf of the SS
>>204756903I agree. I feel that way about all horror. It's best when we're left to imagine for ourselves. But I thought that, if they were going to do it at all, they did it well all things considered. But did it need to be done? Of course not.
>>204756872>What did you think of the movie?PUTA
>>204756872surprisingly competent for a hybrid remake/prequel
>>204756872Loved it. The first time I watched it I thought it was simply a remake. Watched it again years later knowing it was a prequel and it got infinitely better. Funny story: I read somewhere that they filmed most of the movie using practical effects but then later switched to CGI either because of some producer decision or testing poorly in focus groups. Mind boggling.
>>204756872>What did you think of the movie?
doot deet doot deet doot deet doot deet
>>204756932Yup. I love the 90's Body Snatchers. It never gets any love from people. I fell in love with Gabrielle Anwar who plays the stepdaughter and that speech from Meg was apparently channeled from years of abuse she suffered from her stepfather. And I never cared for Jennifer. She's been in way more movies than Meg, but Meg was far more talented and she was definitely hotter. She had that wholesome girl-next-door look. She has her own Youtube channel where she talks about her experiences as an actress. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLY9J28q7JafPeuohjGWD_og3i6PVd-nmTHonestly she's someone I wish I could marry. She quit acting because she wanted to raise her kids and didn't want to spend months away from them. How many actresses (who won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress) would do that? Meg was definitely favored in Hollywood in the 80's for a while.
>>204757017>I read somewhere that they filmed most of the movie using practical effects but then later switched to CGIIsn't that sad?
Somehow, Rosemary's baby returned
>>204757011>surprisingly competent for a hybrid remake/prequelYeah for fans of the original, it was a prequel, but for anyone that had never seen the original, it was just a new horror movie. It worked.
>>204756872I saw it for 50 cents shortly after it left regular theaters and was slightly disappointed.
Tremors is the most wholesome horror ever made
>>204757017Go look up videos of the practical effects work, it's incredible. How you could replace that stuff with dogshit CG is truly bewildering.
>>204756098>me MegHey, holdup there partner, there seems to be a mistake. Meggy is my wife, and we'd both appreciate it if you'd respect our boundaries. Thanks for understanding!
>>204756872>Never does anything like this to anyone elseWhat was The Thing's problem with him? Why was it being such a cunt?xxnjd
>>204756350>creepy lookin bitchJew is only three letters, anon. No need to type all that out.
>>204757053>She quit acting because she wanted to raise her kids and didn't want to spend months away from them. How many actresses (who won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress) would do that? Meg was definitely favored in Hollywood in the 80's for a while.I mean, you have to look at these details and the type of woman she seems to be and be grateful that this world isn't completely full of egocentric, vampiric narcissists. It's a fucked up world, but at least some of us not only have a shot at reaching the top but then also get to live a wholesome life afterwards.
>>204756664Nah, she was annoying in the original. Totally have no time for weak, helpless damsels.
>>204757138It's quite possibly the most fun monster flick I've ever seen. I know Kevin Bacon hates it, but holy shit it's so comfy about how they overcome the Graboids and the 2 buddies decide to try and become celebrities. >>204757151NTA but I can't even imagine how many guys in the 1980's must've fantasized about Meg Tilly. The 80's had so many dream girls like her, Phoebe Cates, Heather Thomas, Lisa Welch, Julia Montgomery, Cheryl Ladd, Tanya Roberts, Jaclyn Smith, Kimberly McArthur, Barbara Crampton and so many others. Luckiest bastards alive along with 1960's and 1970's generation. I do think that 90's and 00's girls are very hot too and I'm more familiar with the fashions, hair styles, music, but goddamn I really appreciate retro.
>>204755878>Daily Dogshit
>>204757222I'm actually glad she walked away from the bullshit. You look at others in the entertainment industry and wished they could've escaped. Britney Spears is a prime example. She definitely got fucked over in the 90's and 00's to the point that she is broken beyond repair. I actually feel sorry for her because she was used and abused since she was a kid. The same for her younger sister. And we all know Amanda Bynes got diddled. Probably every girl that starred in a Nickelodeon show in the 90's and 00's.
>>204757151I meant as an actress of course, Megposter. There's only one true waifu for me.
>>204756872>The practical effects of the original, which is 42 years old, aged better than CGI from a movie from 13 years ago.Bro that's given. Maybe in certain prosthetics it isn't, but generally practical, material special effects as a rule will prevail over cgi.
>>204757267>The 80's had so many dream girls Pfff, what do they have on Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, or Jenna Ortega?
>>204757100Oh yeah, remember that Crimson Glory were brought up in /hor/ a few days ago? That song is killer from their debut.
>>204757373My apologies, the mistake is mine!
>>204757406Even the black and Hispanic women in the 80s were hotter than modern black and Latina stars like Vanity and María Conchita Alonso. Women did aerobics, lifted weights, did dancing, gymnastics, swimming, and were big into healthy eating in that decade. And I fucking love their workout outfits, leg-warmers and other distinctive gear.

It was supposed to be longer but they trimmed it. Yeah Meg's German is a bit hokey but goddamn she's so fucking sexy. >>204757596Here's her most prolific roles:The Big Chillhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9l9VB5qywYPsycho II as was mentioned earlierBody Snatchers from 1992. It's a very underrated depiction and nowhere near as well known as the 50's and especially the 70's verions. TexMasquerade (a pretty good thriller with Rob Lowe)Agnes of God (it's what earned her Golden Globe and about a nun who gives birth and the fallout)One Dark Night (very comfy 80's horror with no blood, but very spooky corpses and it even has Adam West in the cast)The Girl in a Swing (based on a novel by the guy who wrote Watership Down and The Plague Dogs, it's a pretty haunting story about relationships and regret)She also did some TV work like Carmilla where she plays the lesbian vampire and a Showtime neo-noir with Gary Oldman and Gabrielle Anwar.
>>204756932Saw it with my lil bro by hiding behind the couch when i was 8-9 yrs old.For around a year we'd question my parents every night before bed to make sure they hadn't been replaced, and every time we went to new cities we'd check to see if ppl there showed emotions. I think the film itself was always shit, i even thought that then, but putting that specific scenario in a little kids head, for some reason it was the most terrifying thing ever, way more than monsters.
>>204757619Nowhere near as prolific as 80's women did. There weren't as many fatties back then and even the fat women in the 80's would be considered healthy weight today. There was no body positivity bullshit back then. >>204757725>Devon SawaWhatever happened to this dude?
>>204757688If you watched the movie you'd know that that performance is perfectly in line with the circumstances of the scene and the state that the character was in at that time. It's also the only scene where she is expressive like that in that manner. It is acting and it is competent acting and it's how it should be done which is why the webm gets posted so often.

>>204757741>Eh, I think the 90's and 00's were the last death gasps of Western civ. You're right, that to me is why the 80s was the peak. I was a teen in the 00s so to me I would say I was a 90s child. I feel like it was a cheap facsimile of the 80s. All of my favorite bands had their heyday in the 80s, and the music they released in the 90s was tolerable but a noticeable decline. Same with movie franchises. Looking back, the 00s were totally cringe, and that did make for kino here and there, but ultimately it was just another step down the descent.

>>204758022Yeah both versions of The Fly are bleak. I saw the 1986 version one rainy afternoon and that moment where he puts the shotgun to his head got to me. I mean, if he hadn't gotten drunk and gotten into that telepod, none of this shit would've happened. He would've been world famous and rich beyond belief. Even if he didn't solve the organic matter problem, can you imagine how much time and labor telepods can save in the transportation industry? You can get your finished products within minutes if not hours of its assembly from across the globe.

>>204756091It's not scary by any means, but I thought she did a good job herself
>>204761045for me it's decent in it's TV format. All the vulgarities didn't help it and the cleaner audio improved it and made it a more solid movie. 6/10

To the anon who asked me to watch this to let him know if it was worth watching: the answer is yes. I'm assuming you're into vampire movies or you wouldn't have stumbled across this. In which case I'd say it's definitely worth a watch. Nothing special, really. Just a standard vampire movie with a late 80s, early 90s cinematography feel. I haven't watched a straight up vampire movie in a while so it was quite refreshing. There were definitely some funny quirks to it but that made it more entertaining. There's a few scenes that are either using proto-cgi or some very well crafted stop motion animation. I think it's the latter. Either way, it sticks out like a sore thumb and is very charming. If you recognize that it was made in the same year Terminator 2 was (which was lauded for it's "amazing" cgi which now looks pretty shoddy) you can appreciate it more.
>>204756872it has more going than most horror trash. aside from the dodgy cgi, its competently shot, the actors did a fine job. puta was fine

>>204762497Are you serious? I don't think I have it in me.Currently watching Ticks, one of the other Tubi recs from last night. It's got Seth Green and Alfonso Ribeiro in it, both before they got their big breaks in Buffy and Fresh Prince, respectively. Carlton plays an inner city thug which is fucking hilarious. He does a pretty good job at it, too. The fact that I've never even heard of this movie is another testament to why the horror genre is so humbling in how massive it is.

Rewatching Black Christmas (1974) because it reminded me of this recent call I got from a client from MA. I verified his full name and his phone number and he had a very raspy, thick Boston/New England accent. I asked him if he was calling looking for a health insurance insurance quote and he replied with, "No, I was actually callin' looking for some pussy. Do ya shave?" I was extremely embarrassed being asked that question so... in an attempt to remain professional I replied with "I'm sorry?" and then he asked me "Are ya single?" At that point, I had to hang up on him and blacklist his number because he kept on asking me inappropriate questions I couldn't answer because the call would've probably taken a turn in my client asking me personal information that a client shouldn't be asking the rep. Blogposting aside, I love Billy Lenz aka this clinically retarded man that loves to sexually harass sorority girls.
